Soundcity Awards: How The EFCC Crowned Naira Marley King; Floors Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, To Win First Award

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has, inadvertently, crowned  controversial lewd singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley a Music King.

Marley won his first major award in the music industry after his track ‘Soapy’, went viral, following his arrest by the EFCC, over alleged cyber crime.

The 25-year old singer clinched his first major Nigerian award at the 2020 Soundcity Most Valuable Personality, MVP, Awards on Saturday at the Eko Hotel and Suites Convention Hall, Victoria Island, Lagos.

His viral song ‘Soapy’ earned him the ‘Viewers’ Choice’ award, beating the likes of Tiwa Savage, David Adeleke (Davido), Damini Ogulu (Burna Boy) and Zlatan to the prestigious award.

The song, ‘Soapy,’  which won Naira Marley the award went viral after his release from Ikoyi Prison by the EFCC, for alleged involvement in cyber crime and fraud.

‘Soapy’ is the singer’s most popular track and his sixth single in 2019.

The Marlian President beat Tiwa Savage (49-99), Chinko Ekun (Able God), Prince Kaybee (Banomoya), Shatta Wale (My Level), Burna Boy (On The Low), Rayvanny (Tetema), Zlatan (Zanku – Legwork) to the prize.

The event featured performances by Davido, Diamond Platinumz, Tekno, Joeboy, Fireboy,  Tiwa Savage and, some newbies.
