Committee recommends six months suspension, public apology to Senate President
The Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions on Thursday submitted its report to the house with a recommendation of six-months suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing undisclosed infractions.
This is just as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan once more re presented a petition in which she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office.
This time, the petition was signed by her constituent from Kogi Central.
The petition was earlier rejected on Wednesday as it did not comply with the rules of the house.
In a report submitted to the Senate, the committee outlined the following measures against the lawmaker:
A six-month suspension, effective from March 6; a written apology to be submitted before resumption and the closure of her office for the duration of the suspension, with all official property handed over.
Others are restriction barring her from the National Assembly complex; suspension of her salaries, allowances, and security details and prohibition from presenting herself as a senator in both local and international media.
The Senate is expected to deliberate on the recommendations before taking a final decision on the matter.
