Elder Statesman and foremost Ijaw Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has revealed yet a volcanic and shocking side of Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory.
Chief Clark made the revelation in a letter he wrote to the Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagum, in which he accused the Ag. Chairman, the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Wike of not only sabotaging the PDP, but of working assiduously to ruin and destroy the once ruling Party at the centre.
In the open letter titled: “Whither Peoples Democratic Party (PDP): To Be Or Not To Be?”, Chief Clark reeled out the number of times the three men, allegedly, undermined the Party, and particularly accused Damagum and Anyanwu of conniving with Wike to destroy the PDP.
He lamented a situation where Wike will bestride the Party like a colossus, leaves it breathless, insults everybody, and still enjoys the protection of Damagum and company. He wondered why it is difficult to expel Wike from the PDP. “He is not above the Party”, Chief Clark noted.
He, particularly, noted an incident when Wike, in writing, insulted the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, (BoT), Dr Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President. Wike, said Clark, told Wabara that his (Wabara’s) late wife and family must be feeling embarrassed by his (Wabara’s) behavior. “You are a big shame to your generation”, Clark quoted Wike, to have told Wabara in writing.
According to Chief Clark, Wabara’s offence was his call, during a meeting, that Party members indulging in anti-Party activities should be disciplined.
For that, said Clark, Wike wrote Wabara, his elder in age, senior in Politics, a stinker and even threatened him.
Clark to Damagum on Wike: ” You summoned a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which Barr. Wike attended. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, also attended the PDP Caucus meeting, in addition to attending the meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC). As expected of a Chairman desirous to make things work well in his Party, Sen. Wabara called out that actions be taken against members carrying out anti-party activities.
“To Barr. Wike, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees has committed an offence by stating that measures should be taken against erring members. For this reason, Barr. Wike wrote a stinker in form of a letter to him, using unprincipled languages and even threatening him, that he was coming for him.
“For the records, Sen. Wabara is senior to Nyesom Wike both in age and in politics. He has held the position of number three citizen of the country as President of the Nigerian Senate, when Barr. Wike was not known, yet he (Nyesom Wike) had the temerity to send an insulting letter to him, written in red ink.
“Quoted below is the said letter:
“Senator Adolphus Wabara, Haba, how will your late wife feel the way you embarrass yourself and your family?
“You are a big shame to your generation.
Rivers matter will consume you. I will speak about you soon.”
Added Clark: “This is just Barr. Wike’s modus operandi to try to cow and intimidate people to submission, to silence them so that they will withdraw from a just cause, giving him room to display his high- handedness when he notices that he cannot buy such persons with money.”
To breathe life into PDP, Clark said the Party needs to flush Wike out and expel him.
Clark: “I, also, wish to use this medium to call on all responsible and reasonable PDP Party elders and members to take a bold step to flush out Barrister Wike from the Party. He is not above the Party. He should be expelled from it.”
