Barely two months after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the 2025 Budget to the National Assembly, the president has requested for the yearly estimate to be jerked up by more than N5trillion.
The original yearly financial estimates the president sent to the NASS last year, which has yet to be passed, is N49.7 trillion, the figure has now being increased by N4. 9 trillion to N54. 2 trillion.
This year’s financial estimates is the biggest ever to be presented to the NASS by any president in the country.
President Tinubu made the request to the NASS in a letter he sent on Wednesday, and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the president, he decided that the Budget be jerked up because of the increase in revenue for the federal government, citing some agencies who agencies have increased in recent times.
The agencies the president disclosed in the letter include, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, which generated N1.4 trillion, the Nigeria Customs Service, which contributed N1.2 trillion, and other government-owned agencies, which collectively added N1.8 trillion.
While reading the letter on Wednesday, Akpabio said the NASS will ensure that the budget is passed before the end of the month, after a though scrutiny.
