Security Men Takes Over Kano Emir’s Palace, Tension Rises

Unusual heavy Security presence was, early  Friday morning, December 6, 2024, recorded  at the City Palace of Emir  Muhammad Sanusi in Kano.

The heavy security mounted by the Police in conjunction with other security organs ,led to the restriction of  movements in and out of  the Palace, where the factional Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,has been holding court since his battle with Emir Aminu Ado Bayero for the ultimate control of the Kano Emirate Stool began on May 23 ,this year.

Emir Bayero is presently hold up at the Nasarawa mini Palace which serves the historic purpose of being the final resting place for departed Kano Emirs.

Both the entry and exit gates of the City palace are said to be manned by heavily armed and stern looking security personnel comprising mainly the Police and the Department of State Services DSS.

As at the time of reporting ,no clear reason(s) had been adduced for the enhanced security presence at the disputed Palace both from the Kano State Government and Police authorities.

But speculations have been rife,linking the security alert to the alleged plan by the factional Emir Sanusi to replace the Wanban Kano who is also the longest serving Senior Councilor of the Palace, Sanusi Abbas.

Unconfirmed reports say Emir Sanusi, against subsisting litigations over the struggle  for the Emirate throne, is allegedly set to announce Munir Sanusi as the new Wanban Kano,as well as the District Head of Bichi.

For the records ,Bichi is one of the four other Emirate Councils which Emirs were controversially deposed in May alongside the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, in order to pave the way for the second coming of Kano State Government- back Emir Sanusi.

Instructively, at the time of the now disputed dethronement, Nasir Ado Bayero, the younger sibling of Emir Aminu Bayero, both children of the late Emir Ado Bayero was the Emir of Bichi..

Impeccable sources revealed that with the Bichi deposition, efforts currently being challenged in Court ,as is the case with the Kano Emirate stool, Emir Sanusi’s alleged plan to appoint Munir Sanusi as the District Head of Bichi is strongly believed not to be sitting well with the people, as well as some power brokers from the Zone.

The Deputy Senate President , Jubril Barau and the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC and immediate past Governor of the state Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as well the former DSS Director General Yusuf Bichi are from the Kano North Senatorial District where Bichi Emirate is domiciled.

Besides, the unusual security situation at the palace has equally been linked with a rumoured economic summit by major stakeholders, which Emir Sanusi is alleged to be preparing to host and address.

The summit is believed strongly to be focused on the controversial tax reforms bills before the National Assembly ,as well as the prevailing harsh economic situation in  the  country ,a development which the authorities at the Federal level are said not to be comfortable with.
