The deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has been receiving high profile visitors since he was relocated to Lagos Saturday while trying to settle down to a new life amid controversies.
Sanusi was brought back to Lagos in a Chattered flight from Abuja where he was taken to by Kaduna state governor, Nasir el Rufai, after Court nullified his exile order. Controversies has been trailing the exile order, with the Kano state government distancing itself from the order, while one of Sanusi’s aids insisted that the order was signed by the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, in collaboration with the Kano state Commissioner for Justice. Presidency had initially distanced President Buhari from the order, though Buhari was quick to receive the new Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero.
Dignitaries received so far by the ex banker included Tunde Bakare, the founder of Latter Rain Assembly known for using the pulpit for political pronouncements. He was a one time vice presidential Candidate of Buhari. Others were Ekiti state governor Kayode Fyemi, and many bothers besides.. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, was not sighted at his residence, though unconfirmed reports indicate that Tinubu was currently out of the country.
In a new video, Sanusi was said to have insisted that due to the poor quality of the letter of dethronement, he could have challenged the dethronement, but chose not to. He has already promised the new Emir that he does not want to contest the deposement. But it appears he is taking every opportunity to make a media statement on the issue, allegedly basking in the controversies it has generated.
And the controversies are many. The contradictions between his Marxist political stance and bourgeoisie life style has generated heated debates. While fighting for the Almajiris, he was seen to live in unbridled affluence as Emir, without any single effort to educate the Kano underdogs. There was no move to revamp the Almajiri schools built by former President Jonathan. In fact, it was governor Ganduje who now tries to inculcate the Almajiris into the Western educations system.
Another issue was the issue of Esse Orruu in Portharcourt, who was forcefully married by a Kano indigen who was an Okada rider. Sanusi was alleged to have paid the Okada rider and paid for the best legal representation-a enior Advocate of Nigeria. The Okada boy was coming to Port Harcourt by flight. But Sanusi public image is that of one who fights against child marriage.
Meanwhile speculations are gaining ground that Sanusi is being propped up for the 2023 elections, though under which platform is not clear.
