Not a few people were shocked at the manner by which the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was literally chased out of the Palace like a hardened criminal. The number of security personnel, including the state Commissioner of Police, who escorted him out was unprecedented. And they are asking: why?

But the Kano State Government has absolved itself of blame, and instead, put it at the feet of the dethroned Emir. The government says Sanusi was responsible for the drama, because he refused to follow the norm by leaving quietly.

But Sanusi, in his first reaction to his sack as the Emir of  Kano, had said he took it as Allah’s will.

However, the government says perish the thought.  It says the man refused to leave the Palace, which was responsible for the drama.

Speaking on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, Tuesday morning, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abdullahi Ghanduje, Salihu Yakassai, said that the government was forced  to force Sanusi out, using the security personnel, because the former Emir refused to vacate the Palace.

However, even though Sanusi said he had accepted his fate as Allah’s will, his Counsel, a former President of the NBA, Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, said the dethronement would be challenged, and is reversible. He has been in many legal tussles in the past three years, and was victorious.  “This is reversible”, he submitted.

Also, a former Presidential candidate, Alhaji Othman Tofa, in calling for calm, described Sanusi’s sack as illegal and said it will be challenged in court.
