Rivers Crisis: My Family Suffering Due To Battle With Wike- Fubara Hints

Simi Fubara, the governor of Rivers state says his family has endured emotional suffering due to the ongoing political crisis in the state.

The governor is currently in a crisis of confidence with Nyesom Wike, his predecessor now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The former political allies are battling for the soul of the oil rich state, a situation that has made the state very restive.

Speaking during a Sunday service oat the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo the governor said his immediate family has been worst hit as a result of the crisis.

“I want to thank again, my family. They are suffering, that’s the truth,” the governor said, adding that his faith in God, alongside the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has helped him to remain in power.

According to him, his coming to power last year was a divine occurrence as God cannot make a ‘mistake’.

Fubara said, “It has not been easy, I can say it. A lot of people who started this journey with us ought to have been here with us, unfortunately, they are not here. God knows why. We can’t question the Almighty.

“I’m happy to return this glory to God Almighty, to say thank you God, and give me extra energy to continue with the battle. But no battle can be bigger than God.

“I want to thank God first, our dear President, he’s been a great and wonderful father. He has supported and I can say it without being economical with the truth that we are standing here because of his support.

“I want to thank again, my family. They are suffering, that’s the truth because of this cause. You just have to be strong and understand that after a while, you’ll get me back. But for now, these people are the ones that own me.”

Last week, the governor sworn in nine pro-Wike commissioners, as part of the political deal brokered by President Tinubu with the warring parties, for peace to return to the state.

Close watchers of the state says what exists in the state currently is the peace of graveyard, as the parties are still engaged in subterranean move to gain control of the oil bearing state.
