There appears to be a subtle inquest into the financial records of Rivers State during the six-month Emergency Rule in the State.
The Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who left office on September 17, was on Wednesday September 24, 2025 invited to the Presidential Villa ,in a move perceived by some as the beginning of an investigation into his expenditures while in the saddle.
There have been deafening calls for the Sole Administrator to be probed over his alleged mishandling of about N254 billion that accrued to Rivers state from the Federation Accounts in the last six months.
Particularly , questions have been raised concerning a N22 billion CCTV contract he awarded ,as well as several billions said to have been sunk in the just concluded Local Council Polls in the State.
The Rivers State Lawmakers, on their first sitting on Thursday September 18,after returning from their six months suspension, had vowed to carry out an investigation into the State’s financial records as left behind by Ibas.
Although the Sole Administrator had dismissed the move by the Legislators to probe his reign, he was a guest to the President on Wednesday afternoon over issues believed to be in connection with his tenure in Rivers state.
He was accompanied on the Aso Rock visit by the duo of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFFC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede and Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
The former Rivers State Sole Administrator reportedly arrived at the Presidential Villa ,at about 5:50 pm , alongside the EFCC boss and Finance Minister.
The Finance Minister was said to have left the Villa shortly after the threesome arrived, and later reappeared with files ,a development that accentuated concerns that Ibas may have been facing questions from the Presidency.
However, details of the meeting were not known as at the time of reporting.
