Rivers Elders Warn Fubara, Wike Not To Re-ignite Crisis

As the governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara is set to assume office today following his six months suspension, the state Elders Council, has urged him and other political gladiators, including Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister to work together and allow peace to reign.

The chairman of the Council, Ferdinand Alabraba made the appeal in a statement on Wednesday, few hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lifted the six months suspension he imposed on the state in March this year.

President tinubu had while lifting the suspension of Governor Fubara and the State House of Assembly said an atmosphere of peace has retuned to the restive state, saying all the feuding parties have now agreed to work together in harmony.

The Rivers State Elders Council has urged political stakeholders to embrace peace and unity as democratic governance returns to the state.

Speaking , Alabraba warned Governor Fubara and Wike to shun any action capable of triggering another political crisis, urging them to sustain the reconciliation that they all signed to.

He applaud President Tinubu for reconciling Governor Fubara and Wike, who he said have now decided to sheathe their swords, by working together, in the over all interest of the oil bering state, saying the timely intervention of the president stopped the state from an imminent implosion.

Alabraba: “Let us deepen the reconciliation that has been achieved. The elders council urges individuals and groups still fanning the embers of discord to desist forthwith. The crisis is over. Rivers’ interest must come first.”

“We specially commend former governor of the state and current Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his role in midwifing this reconciliation. Wike demonstrated a large heart by bringing the parties together; he ensured that they gave the president a first-hand briefing about their understanding.

“Tinubu’s decisive action restored peace in the state and strengthened the people’s confidence in his Renewed Hope Agenda.

“As elders, we shall continue to promote peace and stability. We urge political leaders in the state to work together in order to promote unity and development in the state.”

Meanwhile, the magazine reports that the people of the state are happy that the Emergency Rule was lifted, as many of them, had moved to major streets, in Port Harcourt, the state capital immediately the president announced the reinstatement of democratic rule on Wednesday.
