Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has disclosed that the party is trying to resolve the problem between Governor Simi Fubara and Nyesom Wike, his predecessor.
The party’s spokesman said “there are undercurrent movements in terms of reaching out to parties,” as the governor and Wike, his former political godfather move to strengthen their positions in their quest for the control of the soul of the state.
Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said at the weekend he’s opened to peace with Governor Fubara, saying the governor is the cause of the feud by trying to pull down the ladder he climbed to power.
Wike helped the state’s helmsman to power in May this year.
Not a few insist that the crisis of confidence between the two former allies is now beyond reconciliation, considering the steps they are taking to consolidate their positions.
Speaking on Sunday, Ologunagba stated it’s not impossible to reconcile the former political allies turned foes, noting that this is necessary for peace to reign in the oil rich state.
According to him, “Rivers people have supported us over the years. What is required is peace and tranquility so that they can begin to enjoy the benefits of the dividends of democracy. This has been our thinking and there are undercurrent movements in terms of reaching out to parties.
“We can prioritize our consideration, our interest in the people because that is the whole essence of why we are here and that is why they voted for us. That’s our focus for now as a party, to ensure that peace, understanding come in, and we are doing well in that regard.”
The FCT Minister while addressing traditional rulers of Ogba land who visited him at his Port Harcourt residence, accused Governor Fubara of trying to rubbish him, saying the governor wants to destroy the structure he used to get to power.
He said, “I and my team would accept peace but we won’t allow ourselves to be dragged down because when we go down, who will protect our people? Who will talk about our own interest?”
“Don’t pull the ladder that you used in climbing. When you are coming down, the ladder may not be there. Also leave the ladder so that other people can also climb the ladder.”
