Rivers state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has thanked President Bola Tinubu for his intervention in the near crisis, which almost truncate the peace of the state.
Fubara, who commended Tinubu on Monday, noted that the president’s intervention has brought lasting peace to the political crisis in the state.
“As I had earlier promised, the mantra of our administration is continuity and consolidation. I wish to reiterate that nothing shall constrain us from our path in our commitment to provide a steady flow of the dividends of democracy in all positive ramifications for our people.
“I most heartily thank all the good people of Rivers State and all men and women of goodwill, even those beyond our shores, for the massive love and support we have received and continue to enjoy before and during the recent travails that challenged the peace of our state and stability of our government.
“Let me also use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to our dear President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for wading into the near-crisis that almost punctuated the prevailing peace in our dear State.”
However, elder statesman, Edwin Clarke insisted that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the Rivers State crisis was needless.
Clarke while speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today said Tinubu’s action is against the country’s constitution.
The Convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) insisted that he would be a dead man if he does not alert Tinubu that he is going in the wrong direction.
He said, “Mr President is the President of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and I am one of those giving him that support.
“But as a father, I will be a dead man if I fail to mention to Mr President: ‘This action you are trying to take is not in the right direction; is anti the constitution.”
According to him, “Public opinion” against the deal Tinubu brokered, the Nigerian leader has to reconsider the action.
“So, I am pleading with Mr President not to be carried away with the ambition of one person.
“I sincerely, on behalf of the people of the South-South, the Niger Delta, and the Rivers State people, plead with Mr President to: ‘Please, reconsider the action that has been taken!’ Nigerians are not happy.”
