The political crisis rocking Rivers State has extended to the leadership of the Judiciary in the State.
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, the Honourable Justice Simeon Chibuzo Amadi, was on Monday, October 30th, suspended from office.
Reports from the State said that he was suspended by Lawmakers loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They also removed Hon Martin Amaewhule as the Speaker of the House and replaced him with the earlier suspended Leader of the Assembly, Honourable Ehie Edison. Governor Fubara has since congregated the new Speaker, his loyalist.
It is not known why the Chief Judge was suspended from office, but it is obviously a fall out from the struggle for supremacy between FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and Fubara, his now estranged political godson. Wike installed Fubara as the State Governor.
The State House of Assembly had planned to start an impeachment process on Fubara, but the Governor rallied round and turned it around with the removal of the Speaker of the House, followed by the suspension of the Chief Judge whose job it would have been to set up an impeachment panel.
