Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence in the ability of the five newly sworn-in commissioners to perform effectively, noting that their successful screening had already demonstrated their readiness for the task ahead.
The governor spoke as he swore-in five commissioners recently screened and confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly, urging them to give their best in the service of the state.
The swearing-in ceremony took place shortly after the Lawmakers concluded what the governor described as one of the most rigorous screening exercises for nominees to the State Executive Council.
The newly inaugurated commissioners are Mr. Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mr. Lekue Kenneth and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
Administering the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office on the commissioners was His Worship David D. Ihua-Maduenyi, Chief Registrar of the High Court of Rivers State.
He stated that the rigorous process conducted by the Assembly had clearly defined their responsibilities and expectations as members of the State Executive Council.
According to him, there was no need for further instructions beyond what had already been communicated during the screening.
“I believe that going through one of the most rigorous screening exercises is enough to say that for those of you who succeeded, you are fit and ready to deliver to our dear state.
“So there is no further charge. The screening was the charge. I wish you the best, as I don’t expect anything less than the best from you.”
Governor Fubara also expressed optimism that the commissioners would contribute meaningfully to the development agenda of the state and support the administration’s efforts to deliver good governance and improved services to the people.
The inauguration of the commissioners is expected to strengthen the State Executive Council and enhance policy implementation across various sectors of governance in the state.
Observers believe the appointments will further boost the administration’s capacity to drive development programmes and address key challenges affecting residents of the state.
