Parents of Students of Model Schools arcoss the State have stormed the Lagos State owned institutions to protest the astronomical hike of the school fees from N35,000 to N100,000.
The Parents lamented that it was unreasonable and insensitive for the Lagos State Government to increase the fees of Model Colleges Boarding Students at a time Nigerians are facing economic hardship, with no reprieve in sight.
On a visit to Model College, Meiran, Parents in their hundreds protested the hike and calld for its immediate reversal.
During the call for the reversal to the initial N35,000, Parents carried placards with various inscriptions that reads, “Let The Poor Masses Breathe”, “No Reversal, No Resumption”, “No To Satanic Increment”, No To N100,000, Yes To N35,000″, “Governor Sanwo Olu Benefitted From Free Education, Why Victimizing Parents”, “Stop Our Pains”.
In a chat, some of the protesting Parents who claimed anonymity, said that they decided to stage this protest to show their displeasure about the hike in the School Fees without prior notice, and again, increasing it by over 190 Percent shows that the Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu led Lagos State Government is insensitive and making a anti people policy.
Another Parent queried that it was disheartening that the LASG do not care about the plight of the people, and also do not have the interest of the masses at heart, stressing that the increment was coming at a wrong and shouldn’t have rose to that huge amount.
The Parents also stated that the reason for staging this protest in front of the School is to stop other Parents who believe they are rich and don’t care about others from bringing their wards to school.
The Leader of the Protestants who addressed the other aggrieved Parents but refused his name in print said that the fight and protest are for all Parents who have their Children in all Model Schools, and anyone that believe they can do contrary to the demand of the people will be severely dealt with.
“Any Parents that agree with the N100,000 and believes they can bring their Children to teh school for resumption will be beaten blue black, because we are all in this together.
“When will the government stop taking us for a ride. This is injustice and an affront on the part of the State Government, which we will resist. The School Fees has to be reversed”, he stated.
Model Schools all across the State ought to resume today, but due to the demand for the reversal of the School Fees, and the ongoing protest, this has stalled the resumption date.
The Parents Association of Model Schools across the State have agreed to meet the Lagos State Ministry of Education on this development, as the Association had earlier stated that it would not accept such increase.
