President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has administered the oath of office to former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as new Minister of Defence.
The brief but symbolic ceremony, held on Thursday, at the State House, Abuja, marked the commencement of Musa’s responsibilities as he steps into one of the nation’s most strategic security portfolios.
General Musa, who until his retirement served as the country’s top military officer, is expected to bring his decades-long operational experience and leadership in counterterrorism and joint-service coordination to bear in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
His appointment comes at a time the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to strengthen national defence systems, reform military operations, and enhance cooperation among security agencies.
It is expected that the new Minister will immediately begin consultations with Service Chiefs and Defence stakeholders as part of plans to update current security frameworks and accelerate ongoing reforms across the armed forces.
With the swearing-in now completed, attention turns to how Musa’s military expertise will shape Nigeria’s defence strategy in the coming months.
