Lagos Island was literally shut down Saturday when Peter Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba Ahmed, stormed the City of excellence for a political rally.

The rally, watched online by millions all over the world, brought his usual crowd of speakers, including Ayo Adebanjo, the Afenifere leader, who addressed the mammoth crowd in Yoruba.

“I am humbled”, Obi later twitted on his verified twitter handle, referring to the overwhelming crowd that greeted him.

“Those born before Independence should give way for those of us born after independence”, he told the crowd, amid chants of “Obi kerere nke”.

However, certain ugly incidents occurred during the buildup to the rally. Many supporters-fondly called the Obidient Family-got their cars smashed and damaged by hoodlums because they were wearing clothes with Labor Party logo.

Taking to his twitter page, Peter Obi vehemently condemned the act.

“I received reports that 4 members of the Obidient Family were attacked and injured in Lagos ahead of today’s rally,” he said.

“That incident, premeditated or not, is  deeply troubling. Such act stands vehemently condemned.

” We cannot continue to tolerate attacks on members of the political opposition, often fuelled by the incendiary rhetorics of  political leaders. The new Nigeria that we seek is one founded on peace and justice, and the respect for the rule of law.

” I call on the Lagos State security agencies to fish out those responsible for the attacks.”

Before arriving at Tafawa Balewa Square, Obi had visited Alaba International Market and Ojo.
