Breaking: Edo Governor-Elect Okpebolo, Others Kneel Before Tinubu In Aso Villa

Edo Governor-Elect Okpebolo kneels Before Tinubu

In the most ridiculous and despicable  manner the Edo state Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo and other APC stalwarts  have been captured kneeling before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Aso rock, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The incident happened on Thursday when President Tinubu hosted Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC who won the governorship election last weekend in the state.

The magazine reported that Okpebholo defeated the candidate of the PDP, Asue Ighodalo in the eventful election.

The APC candidate who scored over 290,000 votes to defeat his opponent has also received the Certificate of Return form the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He was received by the President today alongside their APC stalwarts including Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s National Chairman, Senator Adamd Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, Phillip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of the state.

Some APC governors also attende the meeting with the president. They include Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, (Imo), Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Usman Ododo (Kogi) and Dapo Abiodun, (Ogun).

But, in what would look like bizarre to some Nigerians who watched the now viral video on social media, Okpebholo and others were seen grovelling before the president while shaking their hands.

Apart from the governor-elect, those that knelt before President Tinubu while shaking his hands include, the Deputy Governor -elect, Shaibu, amongst others.

Reacting to the now viral an opposition politician in Lagos state, who spoke under anonymity said the politicians went to far. According to him, some APC politicians have now turned Tinubu to adeity who they worship.

“In fact, this is most ridiculous to say the least. This did not even happen under Buhari who many Nigerians described as a dictator when he ruled the country for eight years as civilian president. It’s unthinkable that some polticians will be worshiping the president in a democratic dispensation,” the source said on Thursday.

Bobrisky: Actor Radiogad, Releases New Evidence On His Jail Time

Radiogad and Bobrisky

By Akinwale Kasali

Fresh facts have emerged on the issues surrounding how popular Cross-Dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, allegedly, spent his six months jail term at an Apartment close to the Correctional Centre.

Nollywood Actor and Media Personality, Destiny Ezeyin, also, known as Radiogad has disclosed that Bobrisky never spent hours at the Correctional Facility following his sentence by the Federal High Court for abusing the Naira.

This is coming amid Federal Government’s investigation into allegations made by Bobrisky that officials of anti graft agency,  the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, collected a bribe to the tune of N15 Million to drop the Money Laundering Charges against him, and that he bribed the Prison Officials to stay in an Apartment where he had access to everything, and not in the Correctional Facility as expected.

He had, allegedly, had this conversation on phone with Blogger, Vincent Otse, known as TheVeryDarkMan, who spilled the beans out in public domain.

Radiogad noted that evidence available with him showed that Bobrisky was inside an apartment close to the prison facility, saying you all know I don’t support all that. I don’t share same ideology with Verydarkman but on this, we are together.

He noted that all that the crossdresser didn’t do while in the apartment was to take pictures but busy chatting on different microblog platforms with friends and business associates during the six- month jail term.

In a video released through his official social media handle, the actor noted that the pictures released by other personalities that visited him inside the correctional facility were staged.

To prove his argument, he shared two voice notes Bobrisky sent to him while claiming to be inside the prison serving his jail term slammed on the crossdresser for abusing Naira.

In the recording, the crossdresser appreciated Radiogad for online publicity and image laundering.

Bobrisky noted that he couldn’t talk too much and has been warned not to make any posts.

The crossdresser added in the recording that he was very okay and doing very fine, contrary to what people were saying about him.

Radiogad explained that he decided to expose Bobrisky because the crossdresser never compensated him.

He further explained that he had been defending him against verbal onslaught about his gender.

Meanwhile, TheVerydarkman, has denied allegations of defamation against prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN.

VeryDarkMan denied the allegation in a video post on his Instagram account while expressing his deep respect for Falana whom he described as his Uncle.

VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has responded to the matter, clarifying that VDM simply questioned the validity of Bobrisky’s claims in the leaked audio and did not intend to defame Femi Falana.

The statement read: “We’re solicitors to Mr Martins Vicent Otse, now referred to as our client, on whose instruction we act. Our client received your letter dated September 25, 2024, on the above subject matter wherein you demanded the retraction of his Instagram publication containing a voice recording between Mr Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju (Bobrisky) and a third party.

“Our client denies defaming Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria and globally recognised human rights activist, but asserts that he only published the said communication to get the relevant agencies and even your client to initiate a thorough investigation into the far-reaching allegations made by Mr Okuneye in the said voice recording, especially as some element of the voice recording has been confirmed by Mr Folarin Falana in his solicitor’s letter dated 25 September 2024.”

VeryDarkMan’s lawyer emphasised that the primary focus should be investigating the allegations Bobrisky allegedly made against certain EFCC officers rather than pursuing a defamation case.

“Our client holds Mr Femi Falana, SAN, in high esteem and recognises his commitment to protecting human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria. In light of the preceding, our client believes that the appropriate line of action in the circumstances is an interagency investigation into the allegations contained in the voice recording rather than pursuing a case of defamation”, Mr Adeyanju said.

In a Facebook post, Mr Adeyanju added that Falz should focus on Bobrisky, having acknowledged the call.

“For Falz: he should go and meet Bob about everything he/she said. Falz even admitted to having a phone call with Bob. End of discussion.”

OPINION: Home Run for Oshiomhole

Mr Azu Ishiekwene

By Azu Ishiekwene

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had barely finished announcing the result of last Saturday’s Edo governorship poll when I got a call to eat the humble pie. Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the man I called a product vendor in my last article, had pulled off another big one!

Why? I had no dog in the fight. But I got the drift. I had warned that given Oshiomhole’s reputation for campaigning for candidates for whom he often ended up apologising, voters could hardly ignore the warning label on his candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and that, at any rate, if it wasn’t that in politics, crime multiplies grace, Comrade’s factory should have been sealed or closed long ago.

But he got this one, right? Okpebholo, who Oshiomhole carried on his back throughout the campaign, is now governor-elect. The Comrade is entitled to ask his critics to eat the humble pie. Fair enough. While I shop for the sugar-free variety, let’s review the poll, starting with issues we might agree on.

Powershift

Rotation or zoning is still a crucial factor in politics. The two leading parties in the contest—the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—put forward candidates from Edo Central, which had not produced a governor before, except for the brief spell of Oserheimen Osunbor.

The governor-elect, Okpebholo (APC), and his rival, Asue Ighodalo (PDP), are from this senatorial district. But the Labour Party thought differently: the party put forward Olumide Akpata from Edo South, which, apart from being the home of Governor Godwin Obaseki, had also produced more governors than any other. Akpata invited the fight to his crowded backyard.

The first thing Saturday’s election taught was that Edo people wanted power to shift elsewhere. Ighodalo may not have reaped the full benefit, but the result showed that he defeated Okpebholo in Edo Central, even though he currently represents this zone in the Senate. That lesson – that zoning matters – was lost on Labour, and it paid dearly for it.

Godfather never sleeps

Godfathers matter, too. In elite circles and on TV discussion programmes, we can criticise godfathers and call them names, like I called Oshiomhole, a decorated vendor of lousy products. It doesn’t matter, as the results of the poll have shown. The election was a contest of godfathers: Oshiomhole vs. Obaseki, each with a hefty trail of other godfathers lurking in the shadows.

If godfathers didn’t matter, Obaseki wouldn’t go, like a thief in the night, accompanied by Ighodalo, to the Abuja private residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, his interim godfather four years ago in a desperate attempt to curry favour.

Complaining about the role of godfathers in our elections won’t change anything. Party members or their sympathisers must be prepared to put their money and energy where their mouth is. It’s a waste of time to disregard party funding and involvement in party organisation, only to complain at elections that Piper Godfathers are playing a disgusting tune. They will.

Oshiomhole has redeemed himself as a preeminent product vendor and godfather of Edo politics. He has also retired Obaseki to Afrinvest or whatever may be left of his investment company.

There’s a life lesson here, too: choose your fight. The question was not who Obaseki was fighting but who he was not fighting. He fought Oshiomhole, fought those who sheltered him from vagrancy four years ago, fought his deputy, fought relations of his deputy in the civil service, fought anyone remotely connected to Oshiomhole, fought the Palace, and fought anyone who advised him to stop fighting. Ultimately, he’ll have to deal with the echoes of what might have been – alone.

Over their dead body

The poll tells us yet another thing—something the PDP may learn over its dead body: that the division in the party that snatched its cap in 2023 may behead it sooner than later. The ruling APC has had problems, especially concerning the chairman’s home troubles and the power tussle in the North Central. However, the gold for internal chaos must go to the PDP and the Labour Party.

Even though PDP governors converged on Benin during the election to present a common front, the party’s core – the governors and its National Working Committee – has been wracked by divisions. The same problem has split the Labour Party down the middle, with each party’s faction claiming to be the authentic one. On Saturday, the candidates of both parties were, strictly speaking, political orphans struggling to get to shore from the parties’ sinking boats.

Broken

Saturday also cleared any doubts that voter apathy is an increasingly severe problem. In a state with a population of about 4.4 million and over half registered voters, voter turnout was 24.49 percent. We have seen this trend in virtually every election. All that happens the day after is the parties and INEC trading blame.

Until politicians restore trust and people begin to see elections as a viable means of making politicians accountable, the voter numbers will continue to drop.

To make matters worse, elections have become warfare. For example, the ratio of voters to security personnel in the Edo election was 1:11. Ultimately, voters are either overwhelmed by indifference or lethargy or discouraged by fear.

But who cares? Once the results are announced and the winner is declared, those who are displeased and have the money go to court. Voters go home until the next cycle.

Adding up

Discrepancies between the figures on the election result viewer portal (iREV), the number of accredited voters, and what INEC finally announces remain a severe headache. The bimodal accreditation system’s whole point was to reduce significant disputes over figures and make the process more transparent.

Some progress has been made since Mike Tyson was on the voter roll, and palm kernel shells were improvised as thumbprints. Yet, it’s a considerable irony that the same system, which seemed to work well in 2020 and was praised by the PDP and independent monitors as a contributory factor for the poll’s success that year, was perhaps one of the most contentious in Saturday’s vote. INEC must get its act together.

Never say, never

And finally, we saw again on Saturday that interests are the only thing permanent in politics. And I’m not talking here about Philip Shaibu changing parties like underwear, although you would be right to cite that as a good example. I’m talking about Ighodalo and what might have been.

In case you missed it, Senator Babafemi Ojudu shared a viral message last week: Asue Ighodalo was a member of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu transition committee after he was elected Lagos State governor in 1999. In another life, Ighodalo, a dyed-in-the-wool Lagos Boy, might have been on Tinubu’s side, as Obaseki once was. What politics cannot divide does not exist.

But who knows? Never say never. If lousy product vendors can get a second – even a third – life, you never know what the future holds. As they wrote on the tail of that famous mammy wagon to Eastern Nigeria many years ago: No condition is permanent!

Edo Gov Elect, Okpebholo Receives Certificate Of Return, Amidst Condemnation

Monday-Okpebholo

By Ayodele Oni

To further seal the victory of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s Governorship Election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has  presented Certificate of Return to the winner.

The presentation took place at the INEC Headquarters Abuja on Thursday, thus solidifying Okpebholo’s position as the elected governor.

This is coming as virtually all election observers which monitored the election insisted that figures were manipulated in favour of Okpebholo.

The PDP also rejected the results of the recent Edo State Governorship election, as declared by the INEC.

During a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, the Acting National Chairman of the PDP,  Umar Damagum, expressed his party’s dissatisfaction with the outcome, asserting that the people of Edo State rightfully voted for the PDP’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and expect him to be announced as the governor-elect.

PDP has vowed to challenge the outcome of the election in Court.

Okpebholo was declared winner in the election held on September 21, where he secured a total of 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.

Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, (LP) came distant third  with 22,763 votes.

In the election, Okpebholo’s APC party made significant gains, winning in over 10 of the 18 local government areas, while the PDP managed to claim marginal victories in the remaining councils.

Notably, the APC dominated in two of the three critical senatorial districts within the state, reflecting a decisive shift in the political landscape of Edo.

The Cholera outbreak in Ebonyi State has led to the death of 10 Persons, it was gathered in Ndibokote village in Ezza-Inyimagu, Agbaja Autonomous Community, Izzi Local Government Area of the State.

According to the State Commissioner for Health, Moses Ekuma, the outbreak has cost the lives of 10 persons, with over 20 other persons from the area have been hospitalised for suspected cholera infection.

Ekuma confirmed the outbreak, saying that infected persons were rushed to three hospitals in the area by the State Government in collaboration with the Local Government and health partners.

The hospitals include: Sudan United Mission Hospital, Onuenyim Agbaja; Sudan United Mission Hospital Izziogo and Izziogo Health Centre.

The Commissioner blamed the outbreak on poor hygienic practices by the people, urging the people to be conscious of their environment by making it clean at all times.

He urged them to adopt good hygienic practices such as stoppage of open defecation, washing their hands regularly, covering their food and drinking clean water.

Stephen Nwankpa, Chairman of the Council, appreciated the State Government for swift response which he noted saved many infected persons.

Nwankpa said that most death recorded last week and within the week were as a result of the Cholera outbreak.

He said: “There was a burial there last week and also there were others who went and ate dog killed in the area, People who went to the burial and those who ate the dog were the main people who first got sick.

“Those who went to the burial ate a cow that was killed and prepared in a very dirty environment. Their community is located in the remotest part of the state. In fact it shares boundary with Benue State.

“There is no good source of water in the area. The only borehole in the area is no longer functional. The only source of water there now is a pond or stream and it is very dirty.

“The situation is worsened by the heavy rain falling this period which flowed into the stream carrying all the wastes with it and probably contaminating the pond,” he said.

Cholera is an acute bacteria disease, that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration has been ravaging Ebonyi State for decades.

Former EFCC Chairman, Bawa, Loses Mother

Abdulrasheed Bawa

By Adesina Soyooye

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has lost his mother.

Bawa was one of Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Bawa’s 10 children. He was, also, the first original civilian staff of the EFCC to lead the Commission.

Bawa was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2021 to replace Ibrahim Magu who was suddenly   arrested, detained, probed by a Panel headed by a former President of the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Justice Ayo Salami.

Magu was redeployed to the Force Headquarters, and  the report of the Panel’s investigation is till date, not public. Instead, Magu, who at the time was a Commissioner of Police, was promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police, on which rank he retired at the age of 60 years.

Unfortunately, Bawa, Magu’s successor ended up same way. He was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu in July 2023, after which he was detained by the Department of State Services, DSS, for many months, and finally released. No word was heard as to why he was detained, investigated and unceremoniously removed from office.

But just before he was sacked, he had had a running battle with then Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, now Minister for State, Defence, over allegations and counter allegations of corruption involving both men.

One of the allegations in one petition against Bawa was that he took over 18 family members, including his now late mother to Saudi Arabia for religious obligations, and quartered all of them at the high profile Sheraton Hotel. The trip, allegedly, cost millions of  Naira.

A grieving Bawa confirmed his mother’s passing in a short statement. “Yes, it’s true, I lost my mother.”

His mother’s body, according to reports, will be transported to Kebbi State where the Bawas hail from  for interment according to Muslim rites.

N15m Bribery: Falz Says Bobrisky Begged Him For N3m For VIP Prison Treatment

0
Falz Falana

By Akinwale Kasali

Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, a Nigeria Rapper and Son to  Femi Falana, SAN, has opened up on the alleged N10m collected by his Dad to facilitate Presidential Pardon for Cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye,  known as Bobrisky who was jailed by anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for abusing the Naira.

Falz disclosed that during Bobrisky’s prosecution by the EFCC, Bobrisky called him to beg for the sum of N3 million for a VIP Prison treatment.

He, however, said he didn’t grant Bobrisky’s N3 million request from him.

This is coming hours Falz’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, denied allegations that its client conspired with Bobrisky and demanded N10 million to try to obtain Presidential pardon for the cross-dresser.

Giving details of interaction, Falz through his legal team, stated that Bobrisky contacted him and that he thought it was to seek legal advice regarding his Naira Abuse Case with the EFCC.

Bobrisky
Bobrisky

The letter stated that Bobrisky requested N3 million from Falz to secure a VIP section at the correctional centre, and that the request was denied by the rapper.

Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, outlined these events in a letter to TheVeryDarkMan (Martins Vincent Otse) on September 25, 2024.

Falz’s clarification aims to set the record straight and address misinformation surrounding his involvement with Bobrisky.

The letter partly read, “Your publication of September 25, 2024, on your Instagram page captioned “In everything and everyone that is mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue…” has been drawn to our notice wherein you made some defamatory statements against our client.

“To set the records straight, our client never at any point initiated a conversation with Mr Idris Okuneye. Our client has documentary evidence that Mr. Idris was in fact the one who initiated a call.

“Specifically, on the 4th of May 2024, Mr Idris Okuneye (AKA Bobrisky) contacted our client requesting a phone conversation with him. Our client gratuitously obliged, having knowledge of the Naira abuse charges leveled against him, and genuinely believing he might require legal advice.

“Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) called shortly after but instead of soliciting legal advice, stated that he was in distress and needed financial assistance of about N3,000,000 (Three million Naira) which he claimed he needed to pay some officials to be permitted to stay in the VIP section of the Correctional Centre.”

The letter added, “Our client, in the same conversation, advised him that there was no need to pay the officials of the Correctional Centre any money. However, Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) stated that his lawyers had messed up his case by asking him to plead guilty to the charges filed against him. Mr Idris Okuneye (Aka Bobrisky) insisted on his request for the money which our client continuously disapproved.

“Without contacting our client, you went ahead to publish a careless statement containing multiple allegations including an insinuation that our client is involved in a homosexual affair and intended to get a presidential pardon for Mr Idris Okuneye.”

It would be recalled that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Femi Falana had demanded an immediate retraction of the “defamatory statements” against him and his Son, and a public apology to be issued across all platforms where the accusations were disseminated.

The chamber, however, warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action, including a claim for monetary damages for the harm caused to Falz and his father, Femi Falana’s reputation.
