“I Don’t Know Who The Leader Of PDP In Rivers State Is” – Gov. Fubara

Siminalayi Fubara - Governor of River State
Governor Similanayi Fubara

By Adesina Soyooye

Governor of Rivers  State, Siminalayi Fubara, sensationally declared Monday night that he does not know who the Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State is.

Fubara is a member of the PDP on whose ticket he became the Governor of the State.

According to the Constitution of the Party, whoever is the Governor in a PDP State automatically becomes the Leader of the Party in the State.

But that has not been the lot of Fubara since May 29, 2023, when he became the Governor. That position is solidly occupied by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Fubara’s estranged political godfather.

The Leader of the Party controls the structure and that   has been the root cause of the crisis between Wike and Fubara. It was Wike who drew  attention to it when his problems with Fubara first became public.

He said he didn’t want anybody to tamper with his structure.

Those who know Fubara insist that the structure was not the problem as he had never struggled over it with Wike. The problem, they insist, began when Fubara dared appoint a Commissioner on his own without clearance from Wike.

Now, Fubara’s case is worsened by the position of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the Party which members seem to be totally pro-Wike. They are more comfortable with the structures in Wike’s hands.

However, the PDP Governors Forum led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, a couple of weeks ago, endorsed Fubara as the Leader of the PDP in Rivers State. The Forum drew the attention of the  NWC to the anomaly where somebody else is the Leader, instead of the Governor.

That, however, earned the Governors the a rebuke and a threat. Wike sent them a warning to keep off the affairs of the PDP, Rivers State, or he would set fire on their own States.

On Monday, October 7, in the wake of the mayhem visited on the State over the 5th October Local Government Election held in State, Chief Bode George, a Chieftain of the PDP, emphasised that Governor Fubara, not Minister Wike, is the Leader of the Party in the State. Chief George declared so when he spoke on Channels Television.

However, a twist was added when Fubara, who spoke on the same TV Channel was asked who the Leader of the PDP in the State is. Without blinking an eye, the Governor responded: “I don’t know who the Leader of the PDP in the State is.”

Recall that all those who contested the Local Government Elections under a little known Action Peoples Party, APP, are Fubara’s loyalists who he advised to move into the Party and contest.

They all did. They all won, Chairmanship, Councillorship, except in Etche LGA, where the candidate of the AC won the Chairmanship position.

As Rivers Burns, Police Absolves Self Of Blame; IG Not At War With Fubara- Spokesman

The Nigerian Police Force , NPF, says the Force is not at war with Governor Siminalaye of Rivers state and should not be blamed for the violence that has now engulfed the state oil rich state following the conduct of council elections in the state last week.

The rebuttal is contained in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja on Thursday.

The magazine reported that Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike now Minister of the FCT have clashed over the conduct of the elections, resulting in  confrontations among their supporters, with the state bearing the brunt as it has been  turned upside down in the last 24 hours.

At least five persons were reported killed yesterday while others have sustained serious injuries in the wake of the violence. No fewer than four council headquarters have also been touched by suspected arsonists, according to eyewitnesses account as Wike and Fubara supporters struggle for control.

Recall that Governor Fubara had accused the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun of causing the violence by being allegedly partisan in the current crisis.

Not a few well meaning Nigerians have also questioned the role played by the Egbetokun-led NPF in the violence that erupted after the elections, citing the withdrawal of policemen few hours to the Saturday, October 5 council polls.

But, the police said it has no hand in the violence, noting that its decision to obey the law is being misunderstood by some Nigerians.

Whatever the NPF has done, the police spokesman said, is in line with the law and its constitutional role for the maintenance of law and order in the country.

On why policemen were withdrawn from providing security on the eve of the election, Adejobi said the action was taken in obedience to court order.

Part of the statement reads: “Firstly, the Nigeria Police Force was served with an order of injunction by the Federal High Court made on the 19th of July, 2024, barring the Police from participating in the LG election, deeming it unlawful.

“Secondly, the Rivers State High Court issued a counter order on the 4th of September, 2024, directing the Nigeria Police Force and other federal security agencies to provide security at the LG elections. It should be noted that the NPF was not joined as a party in this suit.

“And thirdly, The Federal High Court that gave the earlier injunction delivered judgement on 30th September, 2024, nullifying all previous activities so far carried in respect of the LG election and ordered the Police to stay away from any attempt to provide security during the said election.”

” All these orders and counter orders were served on the Police. The IGP being a thoroughbred committed to operating within the legal framework forwarded the three court orders to the Force Legal section for advice.

“For the information of members of the public, the Force legal section boasts of sound and experienced lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

“Based on the legal advice received from the Force Legal Office, the IGP ordered the Rivers State Police Command to abide by the ruling of the Federal High Court, and also communicated the same to the Governor of Rivers State via a letter with reference number CH:3514/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.38/260 dated 2nd October, 2024, where the IGP advised the Governor to also abide by the Court ruling in the interest of peace and well-being of the people of Rivers State.

” The misinformation, triggered by the unwarranted outburst of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, based on no material fact was totally uncalled for, and unfair to the Law Enforcement Institutions in Nigeria, most especially his verbal attack on the person and office of the Inspector-General of Police.”

Adding that, ” For the avoidance of doubts, the general
public is free to profile the career journey of the Inspector-General of Police, and his track record in every place he has served, which undoubtedly show him as a man of honor, integrity and focus before and after his assumption of office as the 22nd Indigenous Inspector General of Police of Nigeria.

” The IGP is very well respected in the Association of Chiefs of Police, World Wide, particularly in Africa where he’s currently serving as the Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO) and providing meritorious leadership within the West African Chiefs of Police.

“We have seen Chiefs of Police from accross the world coming to attend his events in Nigeria and extending several invitations to him. For the first time, the president of Interpol was at the opening ceremony of the Nigeria Police conference and retreat in Owerri, last year under this IGP. Let us please observe some decorum in our politics in Nigeria.

” It is also instructive to note that the NPF does not intend to engage in any form of media tussle or war with the person of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, his administration or his political affiliations but will continued to play its role as a neutral body in all forms of political activities undistracted. Similarly, suffice to say that the Local Government elections were generally peaceful nation wide especially in states where the Police were in charge of security.

“In the same vein, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ,directed the immediate unsealing of all Local Government Council Secretariats in Rivers State which were previously sealed when violence erupted in the state over who control the local government secretariat between elected chairmen whose tenure expired and caretaker committee inaugurated by the state government which matter was pending in cour,” Adejobi said.

Rivers: Bode George Moves Against Wike, Asks Him To Let Go, Declares Fubara PDP Leader

Bode George and Nyesom Wike

  • Also asks President Tinubu to call Wike to order

A foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, has asked the Minister for  the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, to hands-off the local politics in Rivers State and face his job as a Federal Minister.

Bode George, a retired Navy Commodore, also, urged President Bola Tinubu to call Wike to order.

Chief George spoke Monday night on Channels Television in the wake of the inexplicable crisis which engulfed Rivers State Monday morning. It resulted in the razing of about six Local Government Council Headquarters. The sad incident was engineered, and carried out by those loyal to Wike. Government properties worth billions of Naira, and at least one life were lost. Several people were injured.

The mayhem was a consequence of the 5th October Local Government Elections in the State which was opposed and boycotted by factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, loyal to Wike.

Governor Fubara swore-in the Chairmen of the Local Councils on Sunday, but on Monday, a number of them were not allowed by those protesters to enter their offices.

But speaking on the crisis, Chief George, an erstwhile supporter of Wike,  warned President Tinubu about the danger his Minister, Wike poses in Rivers, and by extension, the Nigerian Nation. He asked Tinubu to review his relationship with Wike before Wike’s roles in Rivers State drag Nigeria into an unquenchable fire.

Asked who, in his opinion, is the Leader of the PDP in Rivers State, he said there was no doubt about who the leader is. He said Fubara is the Leader of the PDP in the State. He emphatically asked Wike to give Fubara a breathing space to govern the State.

Chief George: “Justice is, who is the Leader of the Party in the State? It is not the Minister, it is the Governor. So, we have to stand by him.”

Recall that Bode George, a close ally of Wike, joined him and his G5 Group to work against the Presidential Candidate of their own Party, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 General Elections.

Bishop David Oyedepo

Popular Nigerian pastor Bishop David Oyedepo says members of the church and worshipers who wish to attend his church programme will soon be able to fly their aircraft directly from any part of the world to his church in Ota, Ogun state.

Oyedepo, the founder of founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, made this known on Sunday during the Tehillah Night Special Edition at Covenant University Chapel.

The new generation university is owned by Bishop Oyedepo who recently had a lavish 70th birthday celebrations attended by the high and mighty global citizens.

The magazine reports that the popular pastor had confessed of owning a fleet of aircraft which he fly around the world.

Pastor Paul Enenche, one of his ‘sons’ in faith had also recently promised to purchase an aircraft for him to add to the number in the fleet.

While speaking at the university the Man of God, MOG  disclosed that  members of the church or other visitors willing to attend his programmes, will soon have the opportunity to land their airplanes at an airstrip situated within the church premises, unlike before when they had to land at the public airports before making connection to Ota where the church is situated.

He said the federal government has approved an airstrip to be constructed within the vast church premises.

Himself and “members with their planes will have where to land and park,” in the airstrip soon to be constructed by the church, the MOG said.

He also revealed that some some graduates from the university Aviation school are among his pilots, adding that the church should be proud of this achievement, saying airstrip will improve transportation for worshipers and visitors, especially during the church’s large events that usually draw thousands of worshipers from around the world.

The bishop said, “I am sure you will be glad to know that the Federal Government has approved an airstrip for Canaanland.ation

“I won’t need to fly a helicopter to the airport. I can leave from here to wherever I am going. Members with their planes will have where to land and park.

“Won’t you be glad to know that there are some captains that fly me who are graduates of Covenant University? We don’t have an aviation department here, but they found their place in God and went after it.

“That’s what this university is all about, it’s not about boxing you up. It’s about allowing you to locate God’s plan and pursue it accordingly. Young people, don’t play away your life, you don’t have a spare.”

Recall that Enenche had promised to “buy my father in the Lord (Oyedepo), an aircraft.”

“I want to live a Kingdom-first lifestyle, start now! I want to be a major giver in the Kingdom, don’t wait! I believe that one day, I will buy my father in the Lord (Oyedepo), an aircraft,” Enenche said

“I’m trusting God for that, not that he can’t buy for himself, but this is just to add to what you have Sir, but before I reach that level, when he bought this current aircraft many years ago, I went to him with an offering; I said, “This is for aircraft’s tyre.”

“The meaning of it is; if I had enough money to buy the aircraft, I could have bought it but, since I cannot buy it now, at least this money is equivalent to the tyre – plenty money because every part of the elephant is big,” he added.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara

  • I don’t owe Wike, fulfilled all agreements with him. ●There is nothing I have not done for peace ●Wike should let go

The Governor of Rivers State,  Siminalayi Fubara, has lamented the havoc wreaked on some Local Government Councils Area Headquarters in the State.

Following the conduct of the Local Government Elections on Saturday, October 5. and the swearing-in of the winners – Chairmen – on Sunday, October 6, 2024, by Fubara, the new officers who went to resume on Monday were met with mayhem.

Protesters, made up of those opposed to the election, mainly factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, invaded some Council Headquarters and set them on fire. The Local Councils which Headquarters were razed include Eleme, Ikwerre, Emohuo, Degema, among others.

The arsonists, in some LGA’s, were led by known politicians, including, at least, a member of the House of Assembly loyal to  Wike and a former Chairman of a Local Government Area.

In the case of  Ikwerre LGA, the Governor pointed out that the former Chairman had just built the buildings they burnt down. He said they were his (the former Chairman’s) legacy project. Fubara then asked: “How can you lead people to destroy what you built? Why go this low?”

Speaking on the hell which literally engulfed the State, Fubara expressed shock  at the level people could descend to destroy the State.

Fubara spoke to Channel Television’s Seun Okinbaloye Monday night on the crisis.

On why the relationship between him and his immediate predecessor, political godfather, and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike  went sour, he said it was not something he would want to discuss but attributed it to “power.”  He said he did not  fail to keep any of the agreements both of them reached. He said he kept to all the agreements they had.

Fubara also revealed that there was nothing he had not done in order to smoothen his relationship with Wike, who he still referred to in the interview as “my oga”. The efforts he made, Fubara revealed, included kneeling down for Wike a number of times just for peace to reign.

But he added: “I am not a coward. I know what to do. But I will not because I want peace in the State. I want progress in Rivers State. The only thing I can tell the former Governor if I see him is “to let go”.

VDM Alleges Bobrisky Said He Paid SAN N5m Upfront To Push For Pardon

VeryDarkMan - VDM and Bobrisky

By Akinwale Kasali

Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye,  popularly known as Bobrisky, allegedly claimed in a newly released audio record by Martins Otse, popular as VeryDarkMan, that he paid the sum of N5 million, in advance, to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, to lobby for a Presidential pardon for him, Bobrisky.

Bobrisky was jailed for six months without an option of fine by a Federal High Court, Lagos, for the abuse of the Nigerian Currency, the Naira.

He was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and was released after he served out his jail term.

However, scandal has dogged both the conviction and the jail term served by Bobrisky.

In a leaked video by VDM,  Bobrisky, allegedly, told a friend of his the following:

That he paid the sum of N15 million to unnamed EFCC officials to drop the money laundry charges against him; that he did not serve his jail term in a prison cell but in an apartment arranged for him by an unnamed godfather of his who spoke to the Controller General of Prisons; that Folarin Falana, popular as Falz, musician-son of Senior Lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, was arranging for his father to arrange a Presidential pardon for him, Bobrisky, for the sum of N10 million.

Outrage greeted the allegations. Bobrisky denies  saying any such things to anybody. He says the audio is fake, a product of Artificial Intelligence; Falana is suing VDM; he and his son deny any such discussions with Bobrisky, the EFCC is investigating its officials to ascertain the truth; the Federal Government has instituted a  Committee to investigate; the Board of NCoS has suspended two of its officials pending investigation.

However, again, VDM has raised the ante higher than before by making more allegations.

In a newly leaked tape by VDM Bobrisky allegedly said he  made a payment of N5 million, upfront, in an attempt to secure a Federal Government pardon as a convict.

VDM stated that the audio recording took place on May 16, 2024.

In the voice note, Bobrisky, allegedly, shared that his godfather had stepped in to assist by paying the initial N5 million to a SAN.

However,  he admitted that he couldn’t request more financial help since his godfather had already provided him with a well-furnished apartment near the prison.

Bobrisky also, allegedly, cleared up speculation surrounding his incarceration, confirming that he was not in prison as many had believed.

He admitted, “Truth be told, I won’t lie to you, you’re my person. I’m not in prison, but I’m around there. They got me an apartment because of my godfather. My godfather was able to say, ‘Never, you will not smell that prison.’

“Let the world think that, but you will never.” “So, he was able to talk to the Deputy Controller in Nigeria and he said that as long as Bob is not posting or saying anything, they can put me close to the place so I can always come inside and see people, and welcome my family. Nobody needs to know.”

Bobrisky, allegedly, added, “I’m supposed to finish my sentence by July, but if we get the amnesty, I could leave by the first week of next month. The SAN asked for N10 million, which I could have transferred, but my account is frozen. My godfather gave me N5 million and we sent it to the SAN two weeks ago. He has already submitted the pardon request.”
