Nasir Idris - Governor of Kebbi State

By Ayodele Oni

Efforts to reintegrate and better the lots of orphans in Kebbi state are being frustrated following allegation of diversion and pilfering of donations by international agencies to cater for them.

An international donor agency, the World Muslim League had earlier this month transferred N2.1 billion to 1,849 orphans in the state, through bank transfers, to support their upbringing.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ahmed Idris, in a statement, explained that the money is being received from this organisation for onward disbursement to orphans to cater for their education and general upkeep.

Following mounting report of alleged diversion of this fund, the Kebbi State government has vowed to decisively deal with those shortchanging orphans in the disbursement of funds received from the World Muslim League.

Addressing a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Muhammad Sani-Aliyu described the act as fraudulent, adding that government would not take the issue lightly.

He lamented that some guardians entrusted with managing the orphans’ funds, in collaboration with the mastermind of the fraudulent act, have engaged in the illegal withdrawal and diversion of the funds.

The commissioner said in view of the gravity of the offence, government has constituted a committee to recover the funds fraudulently removed from orphans’ accounts.

Sani-Aliyu listed members of the committee to include; three Commissioners, two Advisers and two Permanent Secretaries to be chaired by him, saying that the committee was mandated to ensure thorough investigation into the matter.

He explained that in view of the compassion Governor Nasir Idris has for the orphans, he directed that a committee be established immediately with a view to recovering the syphoned funds and return same to the rightful owners.

The commissioner stated that preliminary investigation showed that the fraudulent acts were perpetrated using Point of Sale (POS) terminals not the conventional banking outlets.

He, however, promised that if further investigation uncovers hands of any bank, government would lodge a formal complain to the headquarters of such bank for appropriate action.

Sani-Aliyu, who described the act as unfortunate and a gross act of exploitation, assured that government under the able leadership of Governor Idris would not fold its arm and allow some bad elements cheating the orphans.

“Going by Islamic teaching, orphans are very important segment of the society, therefore, we must do everything possible to protect their rights.”

While appreciating the World Muslim League for extending such gesture to orphans in Kebbi State, Sani-Aliyu said government had already lodged a complain with the League’s Nigeria Regional Office in Kaduna, who assured support for the recovery of the funds.

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The embattled Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, has strongly rejected accusation of having illicit affairs with a another man’s wife.

The Source reports that late Friday evening October 18, 2024, news broke  alleging the arrest of Sankara alongside his partner in crime Tasleem Baba Nebegu,  at their hideout- an uncompleted building belonging to the Commissioner by operatives of the Kano State Shariah Police, Hisbah.

The Hisbah personnel were said to have carried  out  a surveillance on the said property after intelligence had indicated their regular meetings at the hideout .

Nasir Bulama Nabegu, the woman’s husband, was earlier said to have logged a complaint with the Hisbah concerning the alleged illicit affair ongoing between his wife and the Jigawa state Executive Council Member .

Acting on the complaint, as well as actionable intelligence, the Kano Shariah Police was said to have mounted a surveillance leading to the apprehension of the suspected lovers on Thursday night

“The Husband, Nasir Buluma told us that he is suspecting the Commissioner of having an affair with his wife and mother of his two children.

“We, subsequently, launched a surveillance exercise, and on Thursday night, October 17, we caught them after they entered an uncompleted building belonging to the Commissioner .

“After our operatives knocked on the door, he came out with his gateman enquiring who were knocking, while the woman (Nabegu) was sitting inside the vehicle.

Upon seeing our operatives and her husband, she ( Nabegu )  switched on the vehicle and attempted to bolt away and in the process she hit the fence and the gate also.

” After the failed  attempt to escape and damaging the vehicle, she then met two other vehicles blocking the way and that finally caused her to stop.

“The Commissioner has confessed to have had affairs with the woman at least three times”, one of the Hisbah operatives revealed.

But in a statement on Friday, Sankara pleaded his innocence, noting that the allegations are completely false, baseless and malicious.

He vowed to explore all legal options available to clear his name.

“My attention has been drawn to a recent media report alleging that I, Auwal D Sankara, Commissioner for Special Duties in the Jigawa State Government, has been arrested by the Kano Hisbah Command on charges of having an affair with a married woman.

“I wish to categorically state that these allegations are entirely false, baseless, malicious and aimed at tarnishing my reputation.

“I urge the general public to disregard this fabricated story which has been concocted by certain political elements to damage my character and integrity”

Auwal Sankara ,a scion of a  former Jigawa Senator and Kano based business mogul Danladi Sankara, emphasised his utmost respect and regard for the marriage institution, and, therefore, will not engage in acts capable of undermining its sanctity.

” I reman committed to upholding the values and  principles that I stand for. Iam taking this matter seriously and will pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading this false  information and attempting to cause harm to my person”, Sankara vowed.

“Why I Dance To Praise God –  Governor Adeleke

0
Ademola Adeleke - Osun State Governor
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

By Adesina Soyooye

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has a couple of things going for him. First, he is, by any stretch  of imagination, one of the most loved Governors in Nigeria. Second, he is humility-personified. And even though he is from a very privileged background – rich parents, a rich elder brother who was a Governor and later, a Senator, another  obscenely rich elder brother who would donate the sum of one billion Naira to a Church without a blink of an eye, has two private jets, a University and much more. And, himself, an entrepreneur, a former Senator, and now, a Governor, has no airs about/around him. He is down- to-earth.

For, especially, his humility, Governor Adeleke is loved by not a few people. The icing on the cake for which he is dearly loved, especially by the youths, is his dancing skills. Now, add that to his being Davido’s (the hugely successful international musician) uncle who, he effortlessly dances with.

When Adeleke was a Senator, he was fondly dubbed the “Dancing Senator”.   The “title” was quickly “transferred” to him when he was elected the Governor of Osun State.  Not even the high profile office of a Governor could change him. Simply put, Governor Adeleke is a jolly good fellow. He became to his admirers, the “Dancing Governor.”

Aside from his natural love for dancing, the Governor has just explained the main reason why he dances, especially, to gospel music. He  revealed he does that in appreciation of God. He says he dances to the God’s glory; he dances to praise God. And that is because, his parents, both of blessed memory, taught them to present any problems, all problems, to God.

The Governor revealed this in reaction to a testimony given before a congregation in  Maryland, United States of America, a few days ago by his billionaire elder brother, Dr Adedeji Adeleke. Adeleke (senior), calm, a little on the shy side, is a businessman, President, Adeleke University, and Chief Executive Officer, Pacific Holdings Ltd.

At a Convention of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Maryland, Dr Adeleke (Davido’s father) gave an inspiring  testimony; a testimony on how God miraculously took care of what was thought an insurmountable obstacle for him.

In a viral video, he said he encountered a man-made obstacle when he wanted to build his $2000,000,000 bn Power Plant.  When he was set for it to take off, a Government official, whose name he did not reveal stood as thr rock of Gibraltar against the project. No matter what he did, the official stood against it, told him it would not work, it would never see the light of day.

A billionaire that he is, it was still tough for one to let a-$2 billion (US dollars) investment go down just like that.

So, according to him, with no choice left, he took his problems before God. He went on his knees to God in prayers, much to the amusement of his Chinese partner who told him God had nothing to do with this. But Dr. Adeleke persevered in his prayers.

One day, he said, God intervened. Dr Adeleke said, unexpectedly, he got a call from the  Ministry of Power to proceed to the Minister’s office.

When he got there, they brought out the file and asked him to sign. To his astonishment, it was easy. The man who had been an obstacle to the project suddenly fell ill, and was flown out of the country. That was how Dr. Adeleke got the $2bn project set to go into operations in 2025. The 1, 250 Megawatts Power Plant will be the biggest in Nigeria.

Currently, Adeleke company provides  15 per cent of Nigeria’s power needs.

Reacting to his elder brother’s testimony, Governor Adeleke posted: “Proud of my big bro always. My Chairman.

“Our parents always taught us to take everything to God in all that we do.

“I hope this testimony inspires others not to give up when faced with those trying to stand between them and their goals.

“This is why I dance to praise God.”

And to that, Davido added: “Remember the Sabbath day♥..amazing testimony from my Hero my Father.”

Governor Adeleke, PDP, is on his first term as Osun State Governor, and from reports, doing a good job of it.

Ilyas Imam

By Gideon Njoku

For the first time since 1984 when the Abuja National Mosque was built, an Igboman has been appointed an Imam.

The appointment of Ilyas Imam, the first Igboman Professor of Arabic, has excited Nigeria’s 25,000-strong Igbo Muslim Community.

By this appointment, Professor Usman joins the three other sitting Imams at the National Mosque, two of whom are currently active because one is battling ill- health.

The two active Imams who Professor Usman will now join in the conduct of Juma’ah and daily congregational prayers are Professors Ibrahim Makari and Muhammad Kabir. The fourth Imam, Sheikh Ahmad Onilewura, from South-west, has, for a long time, not been leading prayers due to ill-health. The overall Head and Spiritual Guide (Murshid) is Professor Shehu Ahmad Said Galadanci. He is the Mosque’s General Administrator.

Reacting to Professor Usman’s appointment, the South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON), in a statement congratulated him on his appointment.

The Statement reads, “We, the South East Muslim Organisation of Nigeria (SEMON), extend our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Ilyasu Usman  on your recent appointment as an Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja.

“This prestigious role is not only a testament to your unwavering dedication and scholarly excellence, but also a divine blessing and responsibility to lead the Ummah in worship and service to Allah.

“We pray that Allah (SWT) grants you the wisdom, strength and steadfastness to discharge this sacred duty with diligence, integrity,  and humility. May your leadership unity, peace and piety.

“We, also, attest to the inclusiveness of the leadership of the National Mosque and Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President General, His Eminence  Sa’ad Abubakar.”

National Chairman and National Executive Secretary, Dr Suleiman Afikpo and Ustaz Sirajuddeen Ugwu, respectively, added: “Furthermore, we pray that this achievement serves as an uplift for the Igbo Muslim Community in Nigeria, showcasing their contributions and dedications to Islam and the Ummah at large.”

The National Mosque, Abuja, was built in 1984 and opened officially to the public in 1991.

Why We Insist On Transfer Of INEC Commissioner In Ondo – PDP

0
Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola

By Ayodele Oni

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP)  in Ondo state, has again written a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) insisting that retaining the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Toyin Babalola in the state to superintend over November election will compromise the exercise.

Governors and national leaders of the PDP had earlier demanded the transfer of Babalola to guarantee the sanctity of November governorship election.

In a letter dated 18th October, signed by the state secretary, Oluseye Olujimi to the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmoud Jega, the state chapter of the PDP insisted that the experience during the last governorship election in Edo state, compelled the party to remind the electoral umpire to do the needful.

The letter reads “For the umpteenth time, we are calling  on you, to as a matter  of urgency, replace the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Toyin  Babalola, appointed and posted to Ondo state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under your  commission,  with a non partisan official with no previous  association  with the state.

“We also counsel that you view  this request with the seriousness and urgency it requires for the preservation of the nation’s very fragile democracy and the restoration of your Commission’s integrity.

“It has become expedient, that you act positively on the content of this letter, following a statement credited to your Commission on Tuesday, in direct reaction to the call of the Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, that the Ondo REC should be replaced.

“He also mentioned that the PDP will continue to protest until the request is met , that also, should not be taken as an empty threat.

“Let it be on record, that Governor Seyi Makinde’s call on Tuesday, was not the first time the party made the request.

“It had earlier been mentioned to you in a previous  letter to your office, that your Ondo State Commissioner is not fit to supervise the gubernatorial election fixed for November 16,  for a reason of compromise, as the REC is found out to be a resident of the state, even with her family also, as established residents in Ondo State.

“Quite unfortunately however, a statement credited to you on Tuesday, said the REC would not be removed because she is not from the state, even though you refused to mention her state of origin.

“Dear Chairman, it is obvious that your commission’s information section did not do a diligent check before your commission  made that unfortunate statement, which gives the impression, that INEC  care less, should the issue leads to the avoidable mayhem, which any act of unfairness in the coming election my cause.

“A diligent check on the background of the REC would have revealed to you that, not only did she grew up in Ondo state, she also currently lives in her parents house at  No 3, Majekodunmi street, Ijoka Area in

Akure, the Ondo state capital.

“Even if she was not of Ondo state origin, the constitution of Nigeria makes anyone who had lived in a particular place for a period of ten years an automatic indigene.

“Moreover, apart from being a member of the Ondo state Community, which disqualifies her from the Ondo REC job, going by the rule of engagement of your Commission, it has also been established that, the REC has been holding nocturnal meetings with Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa , the  governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC)   in the same election.

“The above have put to question, the REC’s neutrality in the coming election, where the umpire is expected to be absolutely unbiased and non partisan.

“The integrity of your Commission became  more questionable, following the controversial election held in Edo state recently.

“You may wish to know  also, that the Edo state development, has charged up the atmosphere in Ondo state ahead of the November 16 election.

“Hence, the rational thing to do as an unbiased umpire,  would have been to use the Ondo election, as opportunity to regain the Commission’s integrity.

“Replacing the Ondo REC should not be a change too difficult for you to effect , if you were sincere and intentional about restoring the faith of the democracy loving Nigerians in your Commission.

“May we reiterate once again,  that  Mrs  Toyin Babalola, Ondo REC, is not by any inch qualified to be an umpire in the coming Gubernatorial election in the State .

“For the  sake of emphasis, Mrs Babalola who presently resides at No 3, Majekodunmi street, Ijoka Area in Akure with her parents  and siblings, has been a resident in Ondo state  for more than three  decades.”
