Timi Frank Shuts Akpabio Up, Tells Him “You Should  Be The Last To Accuse Anybody Of Betrayal

0
Timi Frank and Godswill Akpabio

By Adesina Soyooye

An angry Timi Frank has asked Senate President, Godswill Akpabio not to talk  when people are talking about political betrayals.

Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, told the Senate President that he should hide when such topics are being discussed because betrayal runs in  him and is in his DNA.

Frank spoke in response to Akpabio’s criticism of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara for an alleged  betrayal  of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

At a ceremony to mark Wike’s birthday Akpabio lashed the Governor for the bitter political disagreement between him and Wike and accused him of treachery and betrayal. But Frank reminded Akpabio of how he betrayed the PDP under which he was a two-term Governor of Akwa Ibom, and later, Senate’s Minority Leader. He later dumped the PDP for the APC. “You’re a pharisee who betrayed PDP and James Manager”, Frank lashed out.

He continued “You cannot give what you do not have.” i

He described Akpabio as “a Pharisee who sees the speck in another’s eyes whereas he has a log in his.”Frank described Wike and Akpabio as birds of the same feather who flock together.

Frank: “The man who spoke is a known betrayer, the man who he was defending is a betrayer. So a betrayer and treacherous character is most unqualified to tag a more decent and responsible man a betrayer.

“Akpabio has betrayal in his DNA, alongside Minister Wike. Both of them have castigated the APC in the past, only to turn around to wine, dine with and praise the same party. What should we call that? Is it not strange that Akpabio has suddenly become the mouthpiece of Wike, being birds of the same feather?

“Akpabio has proved overtime that he is a Pharisee who sees the speck in another’s eyes whereas he has a log in his. Who is the betrayer? A man who insists that the the resources of Rivers State should be used for the benefit of its people and not to serve a godfather or a man who approved four budgets for the President that are running concurrently in 2024?

“Who is a betrayer? A man who is fighting to liberate Rivers state from Wike’s strangle-hold of oppression or a man who turned the 10th Senate into a rubber stamp and an extension of the executive?

“When Akpabio was elected to the Senate in 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he usurped the position of minority leader from Senator James Manager who was then the most ranking Senator from the South-South against established Senate tradition despite being a rookie legislator.

“Akpabio betrayed the PDP when he defected to the APC even as minority leader in the 8th Senate. Besides, we don’t think Wike can complain of being betrayed because despite past antecedents, he is still very well in the game of betrayal by being a PDP minister in an APC administration.

“Wike betrayed PDP in cahoots with four other governors and the party lost massively in 2023. Since then he has remained incurable by ensuring that all efforts by leaders of the party to put their acts together are frustrated.

“Akpabio hates Governor Fubara because he is not used to standing for his people, when they need him the most.”

Frank urged Fubara not to  be distracted by Senator Akpabio who he said is known for what he’s allegedly doing presently. He plays the politics of ’where belle face’.

Frank to Fubara: “Remain steadfast, Governor Fubara as God will grant you victory over your political opponents and traducers just like your recent victory at the Appeal Court restoring monthly allocations to Rivers State. The end will justify the means at the end of the day.

“We urge the public to disregard Akpabio’s baseless accusations against Governor Fubara and instead focus on the issues that matter most to the people of Rivers State.”

For two consecutive years, Nigeria retains Africa’s top football award

Ademola Lookman, Nigeria’s Footballer and Atalanta Football Club of Italy sensation, has defended the CAF Best Player won by another Super Eagles forward in 2023, Victor Osimhen, as he made history, by becoming the 2024 Africa Best Player.

The 27-year-old former Leipzig, Fulham amd Everton player clinched the prestigious award at a glittering ceremony held at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night to the delight of many of his fans, well wishers and Nigerians as a whole.

In winning the award, the lethal winge4 edged out Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast/Brighton), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns) to claim the prestigious title.

Lookman’s victory adds his name to the illustrious list of Nigerian footballers who have won the award, joining legends such as Rashidi Yekini (1993), Emmanuel Amuneke (1994), Nwankwo Kanu (1996 and 1999), Victor Ikpeba (1997), and Victor Osimhen (2023).

His win marks Nigeria’s sixth triumph in the award’s history, as he takes over the mantle from Osimhen, the 2023 winner.

The Atalanta star enjoyed a phenomenal season for both club and country.

Notably, Lookman delivered a stunning hat-trick for Atalanta in the Europa League final, making history as the first ever player in the long history of thr European Competition to score a hattrick in the final, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s elite forwards.

On the international stage, he played a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ journey to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, netting three goals during the tournament.

Not resting on his oars, Lookman has continued where he stopped last season, as he continued his exceptional form, recording 11 goals and five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta in the 2024/2025 season.

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been crowned the 2024 Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, winning the award for the second consecutive year.

The 24-year-old edged out Andile Dlamini, Khadija Er-rmichi, Habiba Sabry, and Fideline Ngoy to the crown.

Her exceptional form in France’s Division 1 Féminine played a key role in her win. Representing Paris FC, Nnadozie was named Goalkeeper of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign.

Nnadozie’s heroic efforts, including a 33% clean sheet ratio and game-saving performances, propelled Paris FC to a third-place finish in the league.

There Is No Plan For The Establishment Of French Military Base In The Country – Nigerian Military

Edward Buba - DMO

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

Nigeria’s Military High Command, on Monday, December 16, 2024, strongly rejected claims that  its French counterparts are  set to establish a base in the North East region.

Director of Defence information, Edward Buba, a Major General, in a statement, described the claim as false and misleading.

The Source reports that speculations have been rife in the social media regarding the alleged plans by the Federal Government to allow the establishment of a French Military base in the country, particularly in Borno, the epicentre of Boko Haram insurgency.

Human rights crusader, Mahdi Shehu , in a  viral video posted on the social media had alleged that several French military top operatives have arrived in Maiduguri and other parts of the Boko Haram infested state for the project.

However, he alleged that the officers arrived under the guise of assisting Nigerian troops in fighting Boko Haram terrorists.

Shehu pointedly accused the duo of Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff of having clandestinely welcomed the first batches of the French Military contingents  in  preparations for the establishment of a French Military base in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

According to him, the Military Base which they are claiming will enable French troops to assist Nigerian military in fighting Boko Haram will sooner than later, be used as a launch pad in exploiting the country’s mineral resources.

But reacting to the allegations, General Buba insisted that there is no such plan now or in the future.

“The Defence Headquarters has been made aware of online reports claiming the arrival of a contingent of French soldiers in Maiduguri for the purpose of establishing a French Military base in the North East Nigeria.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria is firmly declaring that this information is completely false and misleading.

“The Chief of Defence Staff ,General Christopher Musa, had recently addressed similar concerns in various media outlets, debunking these rumours and speculations.

We urge the general public to disregard these unfounded claims circulating in certain circles. It is evident that these are the machinations of trouble makers

Nonetheless, the military will continue to fulfill its constitutional duties with professionalism and safeguard the territorial integrity of our nation”, the military statement reads

The Source further reports that the latest apprehension over the possible  establishment of a French military base in Nigeria is coming on the heels of the reported withdrawal of the French troops from Chad where it had maintained presence for decades.

The Chadian experience also follows French Military exit from  Niger Republic, Mali and Burkina Faso in the wake of the military juntas in the countries, its former colonial territories.

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo Chapter, has bemoaned the state of unpreparedness of the Government towards the national sports festival scheduled for early next year.

The Association, which called the State Government’s attention to dilapidated sporting facilities and the sports complex in Akure, pleaded for urgent intervention to save the dwindling fortunes of sport in the State.

This is coming after several stakeholders had urged the state government to, as a matter of urgency, attend to issues causing continuous delay in the upgrading of Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

There have been recent complaints of lack of funds and attention for other sports like basketball, volleyball, hockey and handball, among others.

This was contained in a statement on Monday signed by the chairman of SWAN in the state, Segun Giwa and secretary, Joseph Adesuyan.

According to the statement, the state owned football team Sunshine Stars now play all their  matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League, away from their original home ground in Akure Stadium thus plunging the club into relegation scares.

“Sunshine Stars’ journey within the second week of December had been very rough, travelling around the country in a spate of seven days with a rickety bus.

“They played in Ikenne, Ogun State, penultimate Saturday, back to Akure on Sunday and hit the road again on  Monday to honour their rescheduled match day 13 against Enyimba International in Aba.

“They journeyed back to Akure on Thursday and arrived in Minna on Saturday afternoon to face a much improved Niger Tornadoes, the following day.

“In the same vein, the National Sports Festival beckons yet there is no artificial track, good indoor sports hall or healthy swimming pool to train athletes from the State.

“As a critical sports stakeholder in Ondo State, we passionately appeal to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as a matter of urgency, to declare a state of emergency on government sporting facility in the state for a quick turnaround of results.”

Supreme Court Slams N5 Million Fine On Presidential Candidate, Owuru Over Frivolous Petition

Ambrose Albert Owuru

Owuru, also, asked to remove his wig and gown in Court by an angry Supreme Court

Serial litigant and one of the Presidential Candidates during 2023 election, Ambrose Albert Owuru, got more than he bargained for as the Supreme Court slammed a-N5m fine on him for harassing Tinubu with frivolous suits.

Owuru, who was in Court for the fourth time, was also brought on his knees by the Apex court as he was ordered out of the Bar and directed to remove his wig and gown before he could be allowed to argue his case.

The Supreme Court had on Monday dismissed the fresh suit filed by Owuru,

praying for the removal of President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.

The Court accused him of harassing President Tinubu with a frivolous and vexatious suit.

Owuru contested the 2019 Presidential election against former President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Hope Democratic Party (HDP).

Justice Uwani Musa Aba-Aji issued the order against the former Presidential Candidate while dismissing his fresh suit praying for the removal of Tinubu as Nigeria’s President.

Apart from the N5 million fine, the apex court ordered its Registry not to accept any frivolous  originating summons from Owuru again.

At Monday’s proceedings, Owuru, who claimed to be a lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, sought to argue his own case wearing his wig and gown.

Upon complying with the orders, Owuru was asked why he came before the court again, having had his suits dismissed three times.

Although he tried unsuccessfully to convince the Apex Court to grant him adequate audience, his explanations were rejected as unconvincing.

Following his recalcitrant attitude, the Court threatened to refer him to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).

Justice Aba-Aji ruled that Owuru’s conduct was unbecoming of a lawyer of over 40 years, as he claimed to be.

The  Court lambasted him for taking Supreme Court for a ride, wasting its precious time with baseless suit and gross abuse of court processes.

Before the suit was thrown out, Bode Olanipekun, SAN, who appeared for President Tinubu had drawn the attention of the Court to several cases filed by Owuru that were dismissed on account of frivolity.

He added that the direction of the fresh suit  could  not be understood because of the poor ways and manner it was couched by the applicant.

Olanipekun also said that it was difficult for him to apologize to the Court on behalf of Owuru because the conduct of the applicant had become something unbearable in the practice of law profession.

In his own response, a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Taiwo Osipitan assured that the conduct of the former Presidential Candidate would be referred to the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA).

The new suit, marked SC/CV/667/2023, prayed the Apex Court to sack Tinubu on two major grounds: alleged non-qualification to hold office as Nigeria’s President and alleged usurpation of the office in contravention of the law.

Defendants in the suit were former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Tinubu as 1st to 4th defendants, respectively.

Owuru, a British-trained lawyer called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, insisted that he won the 2019 presidential Election, but alleged that his tenure was usurped by Buhari for eight years.

He claimed that his suit at the Supreme Court, which would have removed Buhari from office, was technically jettisoned by the Apex Court due to a mix-up in hearing dates.

He also prayed the Apex Court to disqualify Tinubu on account of the forfeiture of $460,000 to the United States of America over an alleged drug trafficking-related offense.

Besides the alleged forfeiture, Owuru accused Tinubu of being an active agent of the CIA, a position he claimed disqualified Tinubu from holding the office of President of Nigeria.
