No fewer than 11 persons were killed on Christmas Day when gunmen  suspected to be herdsmen and Jukum militia  attacked communities in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue state.

It was gathered that the invaders stormed the communities shortly after the residents returned home from the Christmas Day Church Service and were preparing for the day’s celebrations. The gunmen shot sporadically and chased residents.

Confirming the attack, Solomon Amande, a former aide to Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of the state who, also, hails from one of the affected communities said he got the report of the incident from eyewitnesses in the area. He claimed that the attack was allegedly carried out by a combined team of armed herdsmen and Jukum militia.

He stated: “I was briefed about what happened. I was told that given the relative peace for some time now in the communities, the people who deserted their homes due to the activities of armed herdsmen decided to go back home and reside in their communities.

“They settled in their communities and went about the normal activities. Unfortunately, yesterday (Wednesday), being Christmas Day, they went to Church, and after returning home from the service, families were preparing meals, and some were gathering and relaxing at spots to celebrate Christmas when a combined team of armed herdsmen and Jukum militia started attacking from five different places.

“They were chasing people and shooting sporadically, and whoever they caught up with was killed. They did that till they got to Government Secondary School, Anwase.

“They killed about 10 people at Anwase in Mbaikyor Council Ward of Turan. And they also killed one person at Iyaav Council Ward, which is my Council Ward, around Tse Jam River Crossing.

“They carried out the killings in communities at the foot of the mountain. It was indeed a sad Christmas for our people.”

Amande, who confirmed that the matter has been reported to Police, said: “In fact, there is a combined team of military personnel and police stationed at Jato-Aka, our immediate town. And it is expected that the recently launched state security team would, also, be on the ground because it is a crisis-prone area.”

President of Mzough U Tiv, MUT, MUT, worldwide, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, who is from Moon Council Ward, another deserted community in the LGA, confirmed that apart from the 11 dead victims, many others were reported missing and unaccounted for after the attack.

He said: “11 persons were killed, and many are still missing from the attack. The leaders of the affected communities have already reported the incident at the police station.”

The Nigeria military on Thursday, December 26, 2024, announced the destruction of some terrorists camps and other operational enclaves in the DanMusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Several terrorists were said to have been killed ,while others fled with varying degrees of injuries.

A statement from the  spokesperson for the  Joint Taskforce,North West Operation, Lt Colonel Abdullahi Abubakar, said the  decimation of the terrorist camps followed series of intelligence-driven operations.

According to  him, the operations were both precise and decisive, as they represent a significant inroad in the fight against insecurity in the region.

“This operation came in response to credible intelligence that revealed active terrorist activities in the area which culminated in assaults on local communities in Danmusa, Safana, and Kankara LGAs on December 19, 2024.

“The operation involved precision airstrikes conducted by the Air component on identified terrorist locations during multiple passes

“In a combined ground and air offensive, troops targeted these camps in an effort to dismantle terrorists’ operations and restore peace to the affected areas.

“Despite the air strikes, some surviving terrorists attempted to regroup in the vicinity of Bichi Hill, leading to a fierce firefight with ground troops .

“This engagement lasted for several hours, but the terrorists were ultimately overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower.

“As a further blow to the terrorists ability to escape, the air component platforms tracked fleeing terrorists on motorcycles and conducted additional successful strikes against them”, part of the statement reads .

According to the spokesman, various reports from locals indicate that the operations resulted in the death of a significant number of the insurgents.

Among the dead ,the  taskforce informed, were the notorious and deadly terrorists kingpins ,Manore and Dogo Nahalle.

Many were, also, said to have been seriously injured.

” In addition to the neutralized, the operation dismantled several terrorists camps located within the high ground, thus crippling the terrorists operational capabilities.

“Prior to these military operations, communities surrounding Maidabino, Yantumaki, Mara and other parts of Danmusa and Safana LGAs had been under persistent threat from the terrorists, leading to mass displacements among local residents”, Col Abubakar stated.

“We  Are Not Comfortable With The Relationship Between Tinubu and France”  – Northern  Democrats

Bola Ahmed Tinubu = President

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The League of Northern Democrats, LND, has called on the National Assembly to, as a matter of urgency, constitute an independent panel to investigate the allegation of subversion being leveled against the Federal Government Nigeria by its neighbours, Niger Republic.

In a statement issued on Thursday December 26, 2024 by its spokesperson, Dr Ladan Salihu, the LND, noted that the issue at stake transcends mere diplomatic relations as it touches on the country ‘s national security

The Source reports that the Niger Republic  recently accused Nigeria of working  with some Western powers, particularly, France, to distablize the country.

The Republic insisted that the Nigerian Government, with generous funding from France, its estranged former Colonial Master, has been promoting instability in Niger through the instrumentality of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.

Although, the Nigerian Government has since refuted the allegations as  false and baseless, the LND has emphasized the need for an independent enquiry.

The group noted that going by the unusual cosy relationship between President Tinubu and France, it will be difficult to discountenance the allegations by Niger.

“The League of Northern Democrats LND, expresses grave concern over the allegations made by the President of Niger Republic in a Hausa video clip that has gone viral, accusing France of complicity in funding and equipping Boko Haram and implicating prominent Nigerian officials including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former NIA DG Ahmed Rufai ,and the NSA Nuhu Ribadu.

“Notwithstanding, the poor diplomatic relations between Niger on the one hand and France ,and Nigeria on the other, these allegations made by a sitting President with access to sensitive intelligence and specific information are too significant to be ignored as mere international politics.

“Considering the severe impact of Boko Haram’s insurgency on Northern Nigeria, these claims demand a transparent and immediate response from the Nigerian Government to uphold national security and restore public trust .

“More so with the current unusual close and intense personal and Governmental relationship between President Tinubu and France, including the signing of bilateral agreements, there are reasons to believe these allegations.

“We, therefore, respectfully call on the Federal Government and Ahmed Rufai and Nuhu Ribadu as esteem Northerners and Public Servants to provide the Nation, especially the North that is bearing the brunt of the insurgency, with concrete, cogent and verifiable evidence refuting and denying these allegations.

“Their silence risks further eroding the confidence of the people, most especially Northerners .The Government must clearly articulate its position, ensuring that no Nigerian official is unfairly implicated in activities undermining our nation’s sovereignty and stability”, LND’s statement reads in part.

2027: Atiku, Obi Can’t Dislodge Tinubu From Aso Rock

Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar

A former presidential aide Doying Okupe has cautioned the 2023 Presidential candidates of the PDP and Labour Party, LP, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi over their 2027 presidential ambitions.

The former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan said the two polticians are qualified to contest the next presidential election, but have no capacity to dislodge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he said is currently ‘doing well’.

Okupe spoke on Thursday to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, saying the current -geo-politics in the country favours President Tinubu.

Both Abubakar and Obi have been rumoured to be interested in the 2027 presidential election, and have been making efforts to achieved their aims of leading the country at the highest stage.

According to him, Abubakar failed in the 2023 Presidential election not because he’s not a ‘good man’ but because the country’s power dynamics did not favour him.

Okupe, who served as the Director General for the LP Presidential campaign last year said President Tinubu should be allowed to remain in office for eight years in line with the power sharing arrangement  between the North and south.

Doyin Okupe

He explained that the north has had its fair share of power during the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, who was in office for eight years, and now is the turn of the south with Tinubu in power.

The magazine reports that President Buhari came to office in 2025 and left in 2023.

He said, “If Atiku still contests in 2027, he has a right. He is eminently qualified and one of the best we have, but geopolitics is an issue. The conditionality persists, a southerner would have just completed four years and needs another four-year term.

“It’s not in the constitution, but we agree that when a northerner does his eight years, a southerner will do. So, the north cannot now terminate the tenure of the south in 2027. It is not going to work.”

He added, “Obi can contest. Obi is a young man, very dynamic and very ambitious; but geopolitics is important in a country that has not achieved horizontal and vertical unity,” he said.

“The person who is occupying the place right now, Tinubu, is also a southerner, who is doing well. We can see what this gentleman (Tinubu) is doing. I wish Obi luck, but it is going to be an uphill task.”

Instructively, reports claimed that Abubakar and Obi are considering working together ahead the next presidential election, to ease out the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC from power.

Tax Reform Bills: “Tinubu Calling For Anarchy”, North Will Show Him True ‘Colour’

Bala Mohammed - Governor of Bauchi State
Governor Bala Mohammad

Governor of Bauchi state Bala Mohammed has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abandon his Tax Reform policy or face ‘anarchy’. The governor spoke when he received the Christian Community in the state in the Government House on Thursday.

The governor urged the president to listen to Nigerians who have rejected the tax refrom bill because it’s unpopular. According to the state governor, the presidency is carrying on with the issue despite its rejection by many Nigerians, as if the country is under an oligarchy government.

He accused the president of not listening to Nigerians on the issue, saying government should be about the people, noting that the controversial bill is against the interest of ‘northern Nigeria’.

The magazine reports that serious controversy has trailed the Tax Reform Bill sent to the National Assembly in August by President Tinubu.

Instructively, political and religious leaders in the northern part of the country have expressed strong opposition to the proposed law, even when the Presidency insist that it will press ahead with it.

According to Mohammed, the presidency must abandon the policy or face the ‘true colour’  of the people of the north, who he said are not prepared to keep silent as the bill has been designed to favour a section of the country.

He said if the proposed tax reform policy is allowed to stand, there will be no money to pay ‘salaries’ or construct “roads’ , warning that the presiency “must listen, otherwise, they are calling for anarchy.”

Part of what he said, “I call on you to pray for Nigeria and pray for all the leaders of Nigeria including my humble self because Nigeria needs prayers. We are facing difficulties. There is a lot of wahala, there is a lot of hunger and it is something that we have to pray for God to obliterate. We have to say it but certainly, we are not insulting anybody.

“We are calling on the presidency and the Federal Government to change their style. Whenever a policy is not popular, they should listen to the people, they should not be arrogant and think that whatever we bring, must be. This is not an oligarchy, this is not a military rule, they must listen to the people and that is what makes a good leader.

“And we pledge to be loyal to them but anything they are doing contrary to that, they are calling for anarchy, they are calling for intransigence and it is unacceptable. There are a lot of wahala, we must work together across the party lines, across the tiers of government to provide succour and solace to the Nigerian people.”

Mohammed further said: “It is not about pride or ego, we must be able to do things that people will be assisted with because whatever it is, the situation was not like this before. If the situation was bad before I came, tell me! And I must change and that is why the presidency must listen to the cries about Tax Reform.

“It is not a good policy for northern Nigeria because we are not going to get money to pay you salaries, to do roads. They must listen, otherwise, they are calling for anarchy. And that is not good.

“We voted for the presidency in this State and other states, they must listen to us. They must not come up with policies that favour only one section of the country or even one state in the country. It is not about religion, it is not about tribe, it is about national unity, it is about national hegemony and this is what we are all about, good leadership.

“We will continue to be loyal for the time being, if the situation persists, they will see our real colour, we are going to fight for it.

“We are not afraid of them, even if it’s the President, we are not afraid of them, except that we only show respect. Whether it is a traditional institution, or it is the Federal Government or it is the President, honestly, we are not afraid of them but we can only show our obedience and respect to leadership. But we will not allow anyone to denigrate us.

“People are suffering and are hungry. They need to look at their leadership style. Leadership is listening to the people and being sensitive to their feelings, leadership is doing what the people want. But I appeal to you (Nigerians) that since we’ve endured to this point, we should continue to be more patient because living in peace is what we need.

“We should continue to pray for the President and his government that God will make them listen, may God make them change their minds and policies in a way that will be beneficial to all Nigerians, in a way that will drive away hunger, the insults, insecurity and all the things they want to bring that will cause division among Nigerians,” he stated.

“Your Over Bloated Ego, Domineering Posture Will Not Allow Political Parties To Accommodate You”, APC Blasts Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso

The All Progressive Congress, APC ,on Thursday, December 26, 2024, advised the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in the 2023  General Elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to stop deluding himself, and face the reality of how to first secure his continued membership of the NNPP.

This is even as  the Party described as day-dreaming, and wild goose chase Kwankwanso’s claim of readiness to whittle down the influence and electoral value of the APC in Kano .

The Source reports that the leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, and acclaimed political godfather of the Kano State Governor, had on Wednesday, December, 25, boasted that he will reduce the electoral worth of the ruling party at the centre to a little above 15,000 votes come 2027 polls.

The former Governor of Kano State who spoke at an interactive session  with former Local Council Officials and  Political Appointees in the State from Tsanyawa Local Government Area,  his residence, promised to dish out to the APC  the same political menu which was served the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in 2023 .

“Now, it is our turn to diminish APC’s influence. We will work tirelessly to ensure that their votes are reduced to less than 15,000 in Kano come 2027″, Senator Kwankwanso  stated.

But in a statement issued by its Kano State Chapter Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, the APC insisted that for now, Kwankwanso remains a political refugee who desperately  depends on the Kano State  Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for continued relevance.

The APC, maintained that the party was not defeated in the 2023 elections as Kwankwaso will want the unsuspecting public to believe, but was rigged out by the NNPP .

It, however, warned that it will not allow a repeat of the unfortunate 2023 scenario.

” Our teeming supporters have no cause to worry about Kwankwaso who has been booted out of the NNPP due to his cluelessness and self-centeredness

“We expect Kwankwaso to keep wondering why he has become a wanderer in the political terrain.

“He ran away from the APC because he couldn’t fit into our progressive ideals.

“His over-bloated ego and domineering posture forced him to abandon the PDP and he has now become a political refugee because the NNPP has refused to accommodate him”,  the APC’s noted.

The APC Chairman further informed that contrary to the vaunting statements credited to Kwankwaso, the party is more than poised to intervene in 2027 to save the people of Kano from further misgovernance.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Adamawa State Police Command on Thursday December, 26, 2024, described as false, and totally misleading, the news reports suggesting an attack on the convoy of the State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, by bandits.

The Source reports that the social media has  been awash with news of the purported attack on the Governor’s convoy while returning from neighbouring Taraba state .

Palpable anxiety  trailed the speculated attacks, amidst a similar attack on the convoy of the mother of the Taraba state Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas .

It will be recalled that Governor  Kefas’ mother, Jumai Kefas, and his sister Atsi Kefas were early December attacked on the Wukari-Kente Road in Wukari local council of the state by suspected bandits

The Governor’s sister, Atsi died a few days after of gun shot wound sustained during the attack.

The fate of the Taraba State Governor’s mother and sister, has triggered a serious apprehension over the news of the attack on the Adamawa State Governor within the territory of Taraba State.

But in a statement, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP, Moris Danwambo informed that, it was only the advance convoy of the Governor that ran into a road block mounted by some armed robbery suspects on December 19, 2024, while returning from Taraba state .

According to him, the advance vehicle which was ahead of the Governor’s convoy,

as is the rule, on encountering the roadblock, gallantly mobilized to clear the robbers out of the way.

The advance security team which he said  comprised mainly of security operatives, was to clear the road for stranded travelers and motorists who were forced to halt their journey owing to the road block by the robbers .

The statement noted that Governor Fintiri was never attacked nor any of member of his convoy injured as being speculated.

The CP  therefore, commended the security personnel for their show of bravery and proactive response to the incident.

While appreciating the  journalists for the immense contributions towards nation building, the CP, however, called on social media handlers to be more circumspect in the discharge of their duties.

FG Distances Nigeria From Destabilisation Of Niger Republic, Says Allegation, Baseless

0
Mohammed Idris - Minister of Information and National Orientation

By Ayodele Oni

The Nigerian Government has distanced itself from any distabilisation plan against Niger Republic.

The Federal Government, also, rejected allegations made in a viral video by the Military Leader of Niger Republic, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.

The FG says the claim of a collusion between Nigeria and France to destabilize Niger Republic is non-existent.

The Minister for Information, Mohammed Idris, made the clarification in a statement on Thursday.

According to the Minister, these claims exist solely in the realm of imagination, as Nigeria has never engaged in any overt or covert alliance with France  or any other country  to sponsor terrorist attacks or destabilize the Niger Republic in the wake of the undemocratic change in the leadership of that country.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), as Chairman of ECOWAS, has demonstrated exemplary leadership, keeping the doors of the sub-regional body open to re-engaging Niger Republic despite the political situation in the country. Nigeria remains committed to fostering peace, harmony, and historic diplomatic ties with Niger.

“Nigeria’s Armed Forces, in collaboration with partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force, are succeeding in curbing terrorism within the region. It is, therefore, absurd to suggest that Nigeria would conspire with any foreign power to undermine the peace and security of a neighbouring country.

“Neither the Nigerian government nor any of its officials has ever been involved in arming or supporting any terror group to attack Niger Republic. Furthermore, no part of Nigeria has been ceded to any foreign power for subversive operations in Niger Republic.

“We reiterate our full support to senior Nigerian government officials for their untiring commitment to fostering peace and security between the government and people of Nigeria and Niger, and for their efforts towards stronger cooperation in the ECOWAS region.

“Indeed, Nigeria has a long-standing tradition of safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Unlike some nations, Nigeria has never permitted foreign powers to establish military bases on its soil. This demonstrates our commitment to national independence and regional leadership.

“The accusation that Nigeria seeks to sabotage Niger’s pipelines and agriculture is both unfounded and counterproductive. Nigeria has consistently supported Niger’s economic development through joint energy and infrastructure projects, such as the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline and the Kano-Maradi Railway Project.

“It is illogical to suggest that Nigeria would undermine initiatives it has actively promoted.

“The claims about the alleged establishment of a so-called Lakurawa terrorist headquarters in Sokoto State, purportedly orchestrated by Nigeria in collaboration with France, are baseless.

“Nigeria has been a regional leader in combating terrorism, dedicating significant resources and lives to ensure stability in the Lake Chad Basin and beyond.

“Recently, the Nigerian military launched Operation Forest Sanity III, specifically addressing the Lakurawa threat, Code Named Operation Chase Lakurawa Out. How can a government actively fighting the Lakurawa menace now be accused of harbouring the same group within its borders?

“These accusations lack credible evidence and seem to be part of a broader attempt to deflect attention from Niger’s internal challenges.

“The public is urged to disregard these false allegations. Those making such claims, particularly the Military Leader in Niger Republic, must provide credible evidence to substantiate them.

“Any attempt to blackmail Nigeria over ECOWAS’s principled stance against the unconstitutional seizure of power in the Niger Republic is both disingenuous and doomed to fail.

“In conclusion, President Tchiani’s allegations are not only unfounded but also a dangerous attempt to divert attention from his administration’s shortcomings.

“Nigeria remains committed to fostering regional stability and will continue to lead efforts to address terrorism and other transnational challenges. We urge Niger to focus on constructive dialogue and collaboration rather than peddling baseless accusations.”

There was a protest on Tuesday purportedly embarked upon by some Professors on UniAbuja campus against the alleged move to appoint Aisha Maikudi as VC.

At the centre of the protest were moves by the University Management to choose members of the VC Selection Committee Board.

The Governing Council was allegedly attempting to make Maikudi the substantive Vice-Chancellor, despite her purported ineligibility under advertised criteria.

But the University, in a statement,  dismissed claims that Aisha Sani Maikudi, the Acting VC, was being unfairly favoured.

The Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob, said Maikudi’s qualifications showed her accomplishments during her tenure.

The University reiterated its commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process conducted under relevant regulations.
