“Rural Communities Will Get Attention In FCT” – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital (FCT),  Nyesom Wike, has re-assured that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is committed to the development of rural communities in the territory.

Wike made the remark on Tuesday while inaugurating the newly constructed 11-kilometre Yangoji – Sukuku – Ebo Road in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

According to him, communities in Kwali were the first to have newly constructed roads fitted with streetlights. “That is to tell you that the Government of Tinubu is committed to the development of our people.

“Therefore, all we urge you to do is just to be patient. If you are patient, at the end of the day, you will benefit from this administration.

‘’Sometime last year, the Minister of State and I visited Kwali for a stakeholders’ meeting and in that meeting, you told us what your problems were.

“One of the requests you made that day was for us to construct this particular road. Thank God Almighty that we made that promise and today it is a promise made and a promise fulfilled.”

The Minister also said that the promise to build additional Police Stations in the area was being fulfilled, adding that the construction would be complete soon.

He equally promised to construct a bridge at River Ebbo to connect more communities in the Area Council, as requested by the Council’s  Chairman, Mr Danladi Chiya.

“Mr Chiya because you have led your people well; because you have supported this administration; and because your people are happy with you, let me tell you, that bridge will be done. Mr President said anything you want you should tell me and we will do it for you.”

The  Minister thanked the contractor for completing the road project in time and for renovating Sukuku Primary School.

Also, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said that though the 11km road may seem like a modest undertaking, “but its impact will be far-reaching.”

Mahmoud said that the road would enhance connectivity, reduce the challenges of insecurity, and open up opportunities for trade and commerce.

“It will also improve access to education and healthcare, thereby, empowering our rural population to lead healthier and more prosperous lives,” she said.

Earlier, Chiya thanked Wike for changing the landscape of rural communities in FCT. He said that the road construction projects in the area council had connected several communities in the area and appealed for the construction of a bridge at River Ebbo to connect other communities.

“The road network has significantly improved security in the area.

“We celebrated our Christmas without any hitch. We are saying thank you for what you have done to the Kwali Area Council.

“This project stands as a significant milestone and reflects the Administration’s dedication to bringing the gaps of infrastructure, ensuring that no community is left behind in the quest for progress and sustainable development.

“This is part of the FCT Minister’s commitment to change the face of rural communities through quality leadership.

“The road will significantly improve the living conditions of the residents who are predominantly agrarian by facilitating smoother access to market and vital services.

“This is a game changer for the people of Kwali, in line with the global goal for inclusive development and sustainable growth.”

Keyamo Leads Aviation Experts, Gives Final Approval For Ekiti Airport To Commence Operations

The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, led a team of experts to Ekiti State to ascertain the readiness of the

Agro- Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado Ekiti, to commence operations.

This will be the second visit by officials of the Federal Government to the facility, with the first one in November last year.

The Minister on Tuesday, after the inspection, said the Ekiti State Agro- Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti is ready for full commercial operations.

Keyamo disclosed this to newsmen shortly after inspecting facilities at the airport in company of the state Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and some top government officials.

According to Keyamo, the airport is 99.5 percent completed, affirming that full commercial operations will soon commence.

The Minister also disclosed that the runway, which is of international standard, has an apron large enough to sufficiently park many 737 small-body aircraft making it adequately comparable to airports in the developed world.

“As I mentioned yesterday, Ekiti Agro Allied International Cargo Airport is 99.5 percent ready for full commercial operations.

“I am sure you have seen that we have gone around, the basic requirements for the takeoff of an airport are here, you have the fire station, the tower, navigational equipment already installed, all security equipment in place, the runway we have here is of international standard.

“You can also see how big the apron is, it can park many 737s with narrow bodies. A lot of narrow bodies can come here and anchor. So, as it is today, Ekiti is ready for the world.

“And a fact that the Governor has put a lot of passion and resources since he came to office is a testament to his desire for this project. What is left is to ignite all regulatory agencies in aviation to give all the necessary approvals.

“I landed here to show the world that it’s now safe for landing, which is why Aviation 001 had to land here, it’s a testament that I have confidence in the facilities here for public use. The commercial airline will start coming in anytime from now.”

Governor Oyebanji in his comment, expressed appreciation to the Aviation Minister, Aare Afe Babalola, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making the dreams of the founding fathers and the entire Ekiti people come to reality with their unwavering support towards the completion of the airport project.

The Governor, who could not hide his excitement at the current status of the airport, said it spoke to the alignment of vision of the immediate past Governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who started the project, and that of the current administration.

He said the airport is part of the numerous gains of continuity.

Oyebanji also stated that the state economy stands to benefit a lot from the project as jobs will be created through agriculture, commerce, and tourism as well as added value to properties in the area because of the anticipated inflow of traffic in the area.

“Now that the Honourable Minister has landed here, it is a stamp of authority that the airport is ready for non-scheduled flight.

“So, anybody that has a chattered flight can fly into this place without any fear, and very soon commercial flight operations would commence.

“It is a dual-purpose airport, it’s going to serve agro-allied products as well as commercial passengers.”

The Minister, who came in on Monday,  later departed the airport  through the same aircraft that brought him in on Monday shortly after the inspection.

Exploration Begins In Two New Oil Fields In Ondo

The Federal Government has issued licence to an oil firm through the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to manage two new oil fields (PPL 270 and PPL 271) in Ondo state.

The new oil fields are discovered at the riverine communities of Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.

Sahara Energy, owned by a former Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, (NNPC) Funso Kupolokun has been licenced to begin exploration of two new oil fields in Ondo State

Governor of Ondo State,  Lucky Aiyedatiwa, at a meeting in Akure on Tuesday with the management of the company, said the state is open to investors as part of efforts to drive economic growth and development of the State.

During the meeting, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for Sahara Energy’s commitment to investing in Ondo State, emphasizing the state’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for their operations to thrive.

“Ondo State is lucky at this time. Although licenses are issued by the federal government, we assure you of our full support to ensure your activities flourish.

“We remain committed to maintaining Ondo as the safest state in the country and fostering an investor-friendly climate.”

The Governor noted that the government alone cannot achieve comprehensive development in the region and reiterated the state’s openness to more investors.

Aiyedatiwa appealed to the host communities to provide the necessary support and enabling environment for the oil company to operate smoothly, for the benefit of the state and the communities.

Earlier, in his address, the Chairman of the Board of Sahara Energy, Engr. Funsho Kupolokun, described the visit as a crucial step toward kickstarting the operations of the company in the state.

Engr. Kupolokun, who hails from Ondo State, is a former Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Kupolokun stated, “We are here to share good news with the Ondo State government, and it must begin with His Excellency.

“Before commencing operations, we seek the governor’s permission and blessings to ensure a smooth working relationship with the state.”

Commending the governor for making the state an investor-friendly destination, Kupolokun assured him that Sahara Energy would adhere to all state rules and regulations.

CSOs Urges NASS To Increase Tobacco Control Budget To N300m

Following the review of the N49.7 Trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly, Civil Society Organizations, under the aegis of Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, CAPPA, have called on the Senate and House of Representatives to raise the budgetary allocation for Tobacco Control in the 2025 National Budget from the current N10 million to N300 million.

CAPPA made this appeal in a separate petition to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the Lower Chamber, Tajudeen Abbas, to reason that allocating a minimum of N300m is essential to address the multifaceted challenges posed by tobacco use, and support the effective implementation of the National Tobacco Control Act, NTCA, 2015.

Highlighting the dangers in tobacco consumption and the stakes at hand, Akinbode Oluwafemi, CAPPA’s Executive Director, noted that tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death worldwide.

“Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death worldwide, and Nigeria is no exception. Annually, tobacco-related illnesses claim 26,800 Nigerian lives and inflict debilitating conditions and non-communicable diseases like cancer, heart disease, and chronic respiratory diseases on thousands more.

“The economic toll is immense, costing billions in healthcare expenses and lost productivity.

“Additionally, tobacco cultivation exacerbates deforestation and soil degradation, while cigarette waste pollutes the environment,” Oluwafemi said.

The challenge, he noted, is further compounded by the emergence of unregulated tobacco and nicotine products that target younger demographics and exploit gaps in the regulatory framework.

Akinbode added: “These products, including electronic cigarettes and novel smokeless tobacco, are marketed as trendy despite their health risks. Moreover, tobacco companies in Nigeria continue to exploit weak monitoring systems to market their offerings aggressively on social media, as well as utilise corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to gain favour with public health authorities, thereby undermining tobacco control laws and enticing more users into tobacco consumption.

“To counteract these threats, it is imperative that the Nigerian government intensify its efforts in regulation and control, recognising the grave public health and economic impacts of tobacco use. To be clear, the Federal Government must respond with proportional investment in the TCF for the effective regulation of tobacco consumption.”

CAPPA observed that while the 2024 budget commendably increased allocation to the TCF to N10 million from N4.7 million directed to it in 2023, it remains insufficient for several critical reasons.

Akinbode said: “Firstly, operational costs consume a large portion of the funds. The National Tobacco Control Committee, NATOCC, require substantial finance running in millions for the coordination of its meetings, which should occur at least four times annually as stipulated by the National Tobacco Control Act, NTCA.

“The current allocation to the TCF, which provides support for these meetings, remains poor and, therefore, leaves virtually no financial room for this activity or other essential responsibilities of the NATOCC.

“Secondly, effective sensitisation campaigns need robust media outreach, deep community engagement, and active coordination with various stakeholders across the country.

“These activities require substantial funding to reach a wide audience and create impactful messages.

“Thirdly, there is a pressing need for alternative cropping initiatives to support tobacco farmers transitioning to sustainable crops. This shift involves continuous investment in training programs, provision of quality seedlings, and adequate financial support to ensure that these farmers can move to more sustainable and health-friendly agricultural practices.

“Furthermore, enforcement and monitoring activities are crucial to combat industry interference and ensure compliance with tobacco control regulations. This includes prosecuting violations, safeguarding smoke-free spaces and ensuring a ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship, amongst other efforts.

“Adequate funding is also essential to equip and train enforcement teams on the front lines of this battle, ensuring that regulations are not only in place but actively upheld.”

To this end, CAPPA made two requests of the upper and lower chambers. The first is to “increase the tobacco control allocation to a minimum of N300m in the 2025 budget and ensure subsequent increments in future budgets.”

The CSOs reasoned that this would allow the National Tobacco Control Committee, NATOCC, and Tobacco Control Unit, TCU, domiciled within the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to convene mandated meetings and implement robust public health campaigns to educate citizens about the dangers of tobacco use, fund research initiatives to monitor trends in tobacco consumption and evaluate policy impacts, enhance enforcement efforts, including monitoring compliance with existing laws and prosecuting violations and support alternative livelihood programs for tobacco farmers, ensuring that they transition sustainably to other crops.

CAPPA further called for the full operationalisation of the National Tobacco Control Fund.

The Tobacco Control Fund, TCF, was established under Section 8 of the Nigeria Tobacco Control Act (NTCA), 2015, as part of a comprehensive framework to combat the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.

The fund is drawn from various sources, including appropriations from the national budget, proceeds of fines for violations of tobacco laws, and contributions from relevant development bodies for tobacco control.

Explaining the TCF’s importance, Oluwafemi added: “By establishing the TCF, the federal government recognised the enormous public health risks posed by tobacco and the role of adequate financial resources to combat them. In fact, the TCF is intended to support vital activities such as public health campaigns, regulatory enforcement of the NTCA, research on tobacco trends, and alternative livelihood programs for tobacco farmers.

“However, since its creation, the Fund has yet to achieve full operationalisation, leaving Nigerians vulnerable to the unchecked dangers of tobacco consumption and marketing.

“By fully operationalising the TCF, ensuring transparent and accountable fund management, and bolstering the institutional capacity of relevant public health authorities to exercise their mandate, the National Assembly will be leading the charge in safeguarding public health, reducing economic burdens, and protecting the environment from the devastating impacts of tobacco.”

Sequel to the $1 trillion allocation-demand by coalition of civil society organisations from the Federal Government for the clean-up of the Niger Delta, and compensation for the loss of livelihood before the resumption of crude oil production in Ogoniland, President Bola Tinubu is, currently, having a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and the leaders of Ogoniland at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Fubara arrived with Senator Lee Maeba and among the delegation were Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedum Mitee, as well as Senators Bennett Birabi Barry Mpigi and Joe Poroma.

It would be recalled that the CSOs had tabled their demands in a statement signed by the organisations that includes: Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, CAPPA, and Health of Mother Earth Foundation, HOMEF, while expressing concerns over the Nigerian Government’s  reported plans to resume oil production in the community.

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, a former Foreign Affairs Minister has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to get on the wrong side of new President Donald Trump of the United States of America.

Akinyemi gave the warning on Monday, on Channels Television programme, barely hours after the US leader took the oath of office as the country’s 47th President.

Following his taking office yesterday, the US President had taken some actions, including issuing 100 Executive Orders, which many insist will affect global politics.

Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Nigeria’s Tax Reform committee has warned that Trump’s policies are capable of disrupting global trade and tax system.

Trump, the magazine reports, declared yesterday that  his plan is to Make America Great Again, MAGA, a remark that has sent shock waves across the world.

Following Trump’s past remarks on Africa, including describing countries in the continent as ‘shithole countries” not a few foreign affairs analysts said his policy, in his second coming as US Leader will not favour Africa.

They insist that Trump hardly fostered diplomatic relations with African nations during his First Term in office, and the situation may not be different this time around.

According to renowned diplomat Akinyemi, President Tinubu should try to avoid the US leader at all cost no matter how negative his policies towards the country, describing Trump as a ‘bully’ who will not spare anything to achieve his aim.

“If I were President Tinubu, I would try to steer clear of antagonising him because there is nothing a bully likes better than taking on people who are not strong enough to resist him,” the diplomat said.

Adding that, “You know there is that African proverb that if you are not strong enough to take on a bully and you take him on, you are just even going to suffer more for it.”

The Professor said the US leader will soon find out that international diplomacy is not as easy as he thinks, as some of those that will be affected by his negative policies will begin to push back.

Tax Reform Bill, Re-election: Tinubu Plots Bulwark Against Northern Threat

Despite the bloc support the controversial tax reform of President Bola Tinubu received from the Nigerian Governors Forum last week, multiple  sources have told this magazine that President Bola Tinubu may have decided to take seriously the relentless threat from the Northern part of the country against the reform and his re-election in 2027

Recall that the tax reform bill currently before the National Assembly has been attracting opposition from the Northern intelligentsia- political, academic, religious and traditional leaders- on the grounds that it would cripple the region economically. Many Northern politicians, including chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have vowed to work against the President’s re-eletion  unless he jettisoned the controversial tax reforms.

The bipartisan nature of the Muslim North opposition against the President on the account of the tax reform bill, sources inform The source Magazine, is a source of serious concern to the President.

Said a source conversant with the unfolding political intrigues: “Even governors and federal lawmakers from the core Muslim North elected on the platform of the APC have openly spoken out, strongly, against the tax reform bill and, whether you like it or not, against the President too. They are not hiding their belligerent mood and resolve to move against Mr President’s re-election if he insists on going ahead with the bill. Do not be deceived by the endorsement the tax reform bill got last week from the Nigerian Governor Forum. Many Northern Governors remain opposed to the tax reform which they perceive as anti-North.

“Those who haven’t spoken or who may not speak out are quietly throwing their weights against the bill. The situation is currently causing the  President’s trusted allies and members of his kitchen cabinet some disquiet”

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state, Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi, Senators Ali Ndume, Tahir Monguno, Abdul Ningi are among top serving Northern politicians who  kicked against the tax reform bill. Many more Northern Governors and National Assembly members across parties are believed to be opposed to the tax bill but have elated to work behind the scenes to truncate it failing which they have vowed to truncate President Tinubu’s second term bid.

Speaking in Bauchi, the Bauchi state capital  during the Christmas festivities while receiving the Christian community in the State who paid him a Christmas homage, Governor Mohammed accused President Tinubu of sectionalism and threatened that the region would show him its true colour in 2027 if he insists on pushing throug the tax reform bill which he claimed is anti- North: “We are calling on the Presidency and the Federal Government to change their style. Whenever a policy is not popular, they should listen to the people, they should not be arrogant and think that whatever we bring, must be. This is not an oligarchy, this is not a military rule, they must listen to the people and that is what makes a good leader.

“And we pledge to be loyal to them but anything they are doing contrary to that, they are calling for anarchy, they are calling for intransigence and it is unacceptable.

“The Presidency must listen to the cries about Tax Reform.It is not a good policy for Northern Nigeria because we are not going to get money to pay you salaries, to do roads. They must listen, otherwise, they are calling for anarchy. And that is not good.

“We voted for the Presidency in this State and other states, they must listen to us. They must not come up with policies that favour only one section of the country or even one state in the country. It is not about religion, it is not about tribe, it is about national unity, it is about national hegemony and this is what we are all about, good leadership. We will continue to be loyal for the time being, if the situation persists, they will see our real colour, we are going to fight for it.

“We are not afraid of them, even if it’s the President, we are not afraid of them, except that we only show respect. Whether it is a traditional institution, or it is the Federal Government or it is the President, honestly, we are not afraid of them but we can only show our obedience and respect to leadership. But we will not allow anyone to denigrate us”, said the Governor who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum.

Meanwhile, apart from his emphatic declaration during Presidential Media chat last month that there was no going back on the tax bill, feelers from the Presidency indicate that the President is poised to damm the likely political consequences of the bill and have therefore resolved not to back down on its passage.

The President is reportedly determined to muscle his way with the bill and have it passed in both chambers of the National Assembly without any alteration even if it means losing key Northern support for his re-election.

However, to douse the opposition to the tax bill and by extension his re-election bid, the magazine gathered that the President have enlisted  respected Southwest political, religious leaders as well as traditional rulers to help calm frayed nerves in the North.

The recent visit of the  Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his entourage to former President Muhammadu Buhari in his hometown, Daura,  Kastina state, is believed to be one of such trouble-shooting emissaries despatched by President Tinubu.

Former President Buhari, famous for his irredentism in favour of the core muslim North, is reportedly fiercely oppose to the tax bill for allegedly being anti- North and is said to be predisposed to joining forces with anti- Tinubu elements in the region to torpedo the President’s second term bid.

The Source magazine has, however, been told that should the North remain implacable, President Tinubu would consider rallying the Southern and Northern Minorities for his re-election.

Said an Aso Rock source: “Don’t forget that in the  2011 Presidential election, the whole of the so called core Muslim North voted for Buhari against President Jonathan, infact Jonathan lost woefully to Buhari in the core Muslim North but won overwhelmingly in the entire southern Nigeria and in the minority Northern Christian communities and also in the Middle Belt states. And that was how President Jonathan massively won the 2011 presidential election.

“All cards are still on the table. If circumstances later dictate that Mr President rallies the Southern and Northern minorities, he will do so, afterrall, those were the people who gave Jonathan victory in 2011.”

A political analyst, Tobenna Igwekile, however, opine that the Jonathan 2011 scenario will significantly differ from the likely Tinubu scenario in 2027 should he decide to appeal to the  Southern and Northern minorities’ sentiments.

“Jonathan was a Christian with an Hausa/Fulani runing mate contesting against a Muslim Fulani candidate; and it was quite easy for him to attract virtually all the votes of Northern minorities and Middle Belt states and Southern Nigeria which are predominantly Christians.

“In the case of Tinubu, such sympathy from Northern minorities and Middle Belt, and even Southern Nigeria, particularly Southeast and South south, may be lacking if he sticks to his Muslim-Muslim ticket”, Igwekile said.

Trump’s External Tax Policy Endangers World Trade

Following Monday’s announcement of the External Revenue Service by President Donald Trump of the United States, global trade could be disrupted, according to Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman, Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

Oyedele has been credited with the controversial Tax Reform Bills sent to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2024.

The magazine reported that the Bills have divided the country, because not a few Nigerians said it will impose more hardship on the masses.

Nigerian state governors have just thrown their weight behind the Bills after weeks of opposition.

The PCFPTR Chairman said the Tax Reforms Bill proposed by President Tinubu will help the country in the face of President Trump’s decision to establish, in US, the ERS.

He shared his thought on the plan of the US leader on Tuesday on his X handle, saying Nigeria must ensure that she’s a step ahead of what Trump is planning to do. The ERS has the potentials of ‘disrupting’ international trade, global tax system among other economic problems it’s capable of causing, Oyedele stated.

He asserts that “The 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump announced plans to establish an to impose tariffs and taxes on other countries.

“This move could disrupt international trade and further complicate the already complex global tax system, highlighting the importance of our ongoing tax reforms.”

On his inaugural on Monday, President Trump said in his speech that he will work to ensure that America now works for Americans, saying part of the plans was to set up the ERS which will rally funds globally, and bring back home for the benefit of Americans.

The new American leader said a situation where the resources of the US are used to supports oversees initiatives has ended.

Trump said, “Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we tariff and tax other countries to enrich our citizens. For this purpose, we are establishing the External Revenue Service to collect all tariffs, duties and revenue. It will be a massive amount of money pouring into our treasury coming from far.”

The ERS is among a slew of Executive Orders issued yesterday by President Trump as part of his plan to  ‘Make America Great Again initiative.

2027: Expect 100 Percent Support For Donating ‘Food Items’ To Edo People; Okpebholo Assures Tinubu

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the maximum support of the people of the state ahead the 2027 presidential election.

The governor made the promise on Monday during a food outreach organised by the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, that the people of the state will deliver 100 percent of their votes to the president if he chooses to contest for a second term.

RHI is an initiative of Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the president.

The initiative was launched last year by the First Lady, and not a few states in the country have benefited form the food outreach. The states, apart from Edo include , Benue, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Gombe and Cross Rivers.

Others states will soon benefit from the RHI, according to the organisers.

Speaking yesterday, Okpebholo said the initiative could not have succeeded without the support of President Tinubu, and as such the people of the state will return the favour in the next election by voting massively for him if he choose to contest.

Th president has yet to complete his first term in office, there are however suggestions that he will run again in the next presidential election slated for less than two years.

Okpebholo asserted that the people of the state are happy with Tinubu , assuring him of “100 percent votes in the State come 2027 presidential election.”

The governor said, “The entire people of Edo State are very appreciative of this kind gesture of food outreach and donations of different food items to the vulnerable in Edo State.

“We are happy in Edo State, and the people are beginning to see and enjoy a new dawn. Look at food items all over the place in this hall, all thanks to the president and his wife for this great initiative that Edo people are benefitting from today.

“We are assuring you, Mr. President of our 100 percent votes in the State come 2027 presidential election, and if possible, we will give you more than 100 percent.”

Thank you. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you very, very much. Vice President Vance. Speaker Johnson. Senator Thune. Chief Justice Roberts. Justices of the United States Supreme Court. President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and my fellow citizens, the golden age of America begins right now.

From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first.

Our sovereignty will be reclaimed. Our safety will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The vicious, violent and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end. And our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free. America will soon be greater, stronger and far more exceptional than ever before.

I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success. A tide of change is sweeping the country, sunlight is pouring over the entire world, and America has the chance to seize this opportunity like never before. But first, we must be honest about the challenges we face. While they are plentiful, they will be annihilated by this great momentum that the world is now witnessing in the United States of America.

As we gather today our government confronts a crisis of trust. For many years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens, while the pillars of our society lay broken and seemingly in complete disrepair. We now have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home, while at the same time stumbling into a continuing catalog of catastrophic events abroad. It fails to protect our magnificent law-abiding American citizens, but provides sanctuary and protection for dangerous criminals, many from prisons and ​​mental institutions that have illegally entered our country from all over the world.

We have a government that has given unlimited funding to the defense of foreign borders but refuses to defend American borders, or, more importantly, its own people. Our country can no longer give basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina. Been treated so badly. And other states who are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago.

Or more recently, Los Angeles, where we are watching fires still tragically burn. From weeks ago, without even a token of defense, they’re raging through the houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don’t have a home any longer. That’s interesting.

But we can’t let this happen. Everyone is unable to do anything about it. That’s going to change. We have a public health system that does not deliver in times of disaster, yet more money is spent on it than any country anywhere in the world. And we have an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves in many cases, to hate our country despite the love that we try so desperately to provide to them. All of this will change starting today, and it will change very quickly.

My recent election is a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal and all of these many betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed, their freedom. From this moment on, America’s decline is over.

Our liberties and our nation’s glorious destiny will no longer be denied. And we will immediately restore the integrity, competency and loyalty of America’s government.

Over the past eight years I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250-year history. And I have learned a lot along the way. The journey to reclaim our Republic has not been an easy one, that I can tell you. Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom, and indeed, to take my life.

Just a few months ago, in that beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then, and believe even more so now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

That is why each day, under our administration of American patriots, we will be working to meet every crisis with dignity and power and strength. We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, safety and peace for citizens of every race, religion, color and creed. For American citizens, Jan. 20, 2025, is Liberation Day.

It is my hope that our recent presidential election will be remembered as the greatest and most consequential election in the history of our country. As our victory showed, the entire nation is rapidly unifying behind our agenda, with dramatic increases in support from virtually every element of our society: young and old, men and women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, urban, suburban, rural, and very importantly, we had a powerful win in all seven swing states, and the popular vote we won by millions of people.

To the Black and Hispanic communities, I want to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of love and trust that you have shown me with your vote. We set records and I will not forget it. I’ve heard your voices in the campaign and I look forward to working with you in the years to come. Today is Martin Luther King Day and his honor, this will be a great honor. But in his honor we will strive together to make his dream a reality. We will make his dream come true.

National unity is now returning to America, and confidence and pride is soaring like never before. In everything we do, my administration will be inspired by a strong pursuit of excellence and unrelenting success. We will not forget our country, we will not forget our constitution, and we will not forget our God. Can’t do that.

Today I will sign a series of historic executive orders. With these actions we will begin the complete restoration of America and the revolution of common sense. It’s all about common sense.

First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came. We will reinstate my Remain in Mexico policy. I will end the practice of catch and release. And I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country.

Under the orders I signed today, we will also be designating the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. And by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to use the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of all foreign gang criminal networks, bringing devastating crime to U.S. soil, including our cities and inner cities.

As commander in chief I have no higher responsibility than to defend our country from threats and invasions, and that is exactly what I am going to do. We will do it at a level that nobody has ever seen before. Next I will direct all members of my cabinet to marshal the vast powers at their disposal to defeat what was record inflation and rapidly bring down costs and prices. The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices. That is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill.

America will be a manufacturing nation once again, and we have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have: the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth, and we are going to use it. We’re going to use it.

We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again, right to the top, and export American energy all over the world.

We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it. With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to our great American autoworkers.

In other words, you’ll be able to buy the car of your choice. We will build automobiles in America again at a rate that nobody could have dreamt possible just a few years ago. And thank you to the autoworkers of our nation for your inspiring vote of confidence. We did tremendously with their vote.

I will immediately begin the overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other countries, we will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens. For this purpose, we are establishing the External Revenue Service, to collect all tariffs, duties and revenues. It will be massive amounts of money pouring into our treasury, coming from foreign sources.

The American dream will soon be back and thriving like never before. To restore competence and effectiveness to our federal government, my administration will establish the brand-new Department of Government Efficiency.

After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I will also sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America.

Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents, something I know something about. We will not allow that to happen. It will not happen again. Under my leadership, we will restore fair, equal and impartial justice under the constitutional rule of law. And we are going to bring law and order back to our cities.

This week, I will also end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life. We will forge a society that is colorblind and merit-based. As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.

This week, I will reinstate any service members who were unjustly expelled from our military for objecting to the Covid vaccine mandate, with full back pay. And I will sign an order to stop our warriors from being subjected to radical political theories and social experiments while on duty. It’s going to end immediately. Our armed forces will be free to focus on their sole mission: defeating America’s enemies.

Like in 2017, we will again build the strongest military the world has ever seen. We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars that we end, and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into.

My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier. That’s what I want to be, a peacemaker and a unifier. I’m pleased to say that as of yesterday, one day before I assumed office, the hostages in the Middle East are coming back home to their families. Thank you.

America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world. A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. And we will restore the name of a great president, William McKinley, to Mount McKinley, where it should be and where it belongs.

President McKinley made our country very rich, through tariffs and through talent. He was a natural businessman and gave Teddy Roosevelt the money for many of the great things he did, including the Panama Canal, which has foolishly been given to the country of Panama after the United States. The United States — I mean, think of this — spent more money than ever spent on a project before and lost 38,000 lives in the building of the Panama Canal. We have been treated very badly from this foolish gift that should have never been made. And Panama’s promise to us has been broken. The purpose of our deal and the spirit of our treaty has been totally violated.

American ships are being severely overcharged and not treated fairly in any way, shape, or form. And that includes the United States Navy. And above all, China is operating the Panama Canal, and we didn’t give it to China, we gave it to Panama. And we’re taking it back.

Above all, my message to Americans today is that it is time for us to once again act with courage, vigor and the vitality of history’s greatest civilization. So as we liberate our nation, we will lead it to new heights of victory and success. We will not be deterred. Together we will end the chronic disease epidemic and keep our children safe, healthy and disease-free.

The United States will once again consider itself a growing nation, one that increases our wealth, expands our territory, builds our cities, raises our expectations and carries our flag into new and beautiful horizons. And we will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the stars and stripes on the planet Mars.

Ambition is the lifeblood of a great nation. And right now, our nation is more ambitious than any other. There’s no nation like our nation. Americans are explorers, builders, innovators, entrepreneurs and pioneers. The spirit of the frontier is written into our hearts. The call of the next great adventure resounds from within our souls. Our American ancestors turned a small group of colonies on the edge of a vast continent into a mighty republic of the most extraordinary citizens on Earth. No one comes close.

Americans pushed thousands of miles through a rugged land of untamed wilderness. They crossed deserts, scaled mountains, braved untold dangers, won the Wild West, ended slavery, rescued millions from tyranny, lifted billions from poverty, harnessed electricity, split the atom, launched mankind into the heavens and put the universe of human knowledge into the palm of the human hand. If we work together, there is nothing we cannot do and no dream we cannot achieve.

Many people thought it was impossible for me to stage such a historic political comeback. But as you see today, here I am. The American people have spoken.

I stand before you now as proof that you should never believe that something is impossible to do. In America, the impossible is what we do best.

From New York to Los Angeles, from Philadelphia to Phoenix, from Chicago to Miami, from Houston to right here in Washington, D.C., our country was forged and built by the generations of patriots who gave everything they had for our rights and for our freedom. They were farmers and soldiers, cowboys and factory workers, steel workers and coal miners, police officers and pioneers who pushed onward, marched forward and let no obstacle defeat their spirit or their pride.

Together they laid down the railroads, raised up the skyscrapers, built great highways, won two world wars, defeated fascism and communism, and triumphed over every single challenge that they faced. After all we have been through together, we stand on the verge of the four greatest years in American history. With your help, we will restore American promise and we will rebuild the nation that we love, and we love it so much.

We are one people, one family and one glorious nation under God. So to every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future, I am with you, I will fight for you and I will win for you. We are going to win like never before. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

In recent years our nation has suffered greatly. But we are going to bring it back and make it great again, greater than ever before. We will be a nation like no other, full of compassion, courage and exceptionalism. Our power will stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent and totally unpredictable.

America will be respected again and admired again, including by people of religion, faith and good will. We will be prosperous, we will be proud, we will be strong and we will win like never before. We will not be conquered, we will not be intimidated, we will not be broken and we will not fail. From this day on, the United States of America will be a free, sovereign and independent nation.
