Seyi Tinubu Should Be Emulated By Young Politicians; He’s Down To Earth- APC Chieftain

0
Seyi Tinubu
Seyi Tinubu

Amid the backlash against Seyi, President Bola Ahmed  Tinubu’s son, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Isaac Balami insists that he deserves to be encouraged for his humanitarian work across the country.

According to Balami, the president’s son has been able to do what other president’s children did not do while their fathers were in office, because they refused to come down from their ‘high horse’.

The president’s son, he explained, has performed humanitarian work across the country to assist the indigents, and must be praised for his selfless activities.

The APC chieftain made the remark in a statement on  Monday, as Seyi continues to receive bashing from not a few Nigerians, who said his actions were politically motivated.

He has also been trenchantly ciritcised by many people after he claimed , on Monday, that President Tinubu is the greatest leader who has ruled the country.

The president’s son has been touring the northern part of the country distributing food items to some people and breaking the Ramadan fast with Muslims.

Balami said the president’s son should be  commended and not vilified for what he’s doing, by taking the bull by the horn to help those suffering, adding that he has brought youthful vibes into the politics of the country.

He explained that the reason why Seyi is being attacked is because of the 2027 elections, urging Nigerians to stop politicizing the younger Tinubu’s humanitarian work, saying young people should take a cue from him because his victory is  “not just victory for himself, but victory for young people”.

Part of the statement read: “Nigerians should rather call on young politicians, local government administrators and other young entrepreneurs to emulate Seyi Tinubu by supporting individuals who are truly in need and not to discourage this young man.

“Mr Seyi Tinubu had started this Iftar reach-outs 10-15 years ago when the father was not the nation’s president. Are some people saying he should quit because the father is the current president?

“What, therefore, is wrong should the son of the president reach out to those in need or genuinely share some moments with northern Muslims at their quiet and prayerful time?

“The most ridiculous is the insinuation that his gesture was politically motivated. Even if Seyi is doing this for political reasons, what is wrong?

“We know how children of presidents behave. Many won’t come down from their high horses, but Seyi has continued to do what most children of presidents have never done. He is down to earth.”

Recall that Seyi has attracted serious criticisms from not a few following suggestions that he’s planning to join the Lagos state governorship race in 2027.

In a surprise move, President Tinubu tapped the vocal critic, a known critic of bad governance, for the high profile office.

The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) described the offer as President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and the inclusive distribution of the dividends of democracy.

NCYP in a statement on Tuesday stated that “These appointments, alongside the establishment of these two critical institutions, are a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and the inclusive distribution of the dividends of democracy, even in areas where he did not receive massive electoral support.”

The statement, signed by Isaac Abrak,

Chairman , Northern Christian Youth Professionals, added that “Here, the President has displayed the exceptional qualities of a leader with a big heart. The NCYP sees this as a vindication of our decision to support and campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket during the 2023 general elections—despite opposition from many within our faith.

“Today, we stand proud as Southern Kaduna, a predominantly Christian region, rejoices over these landmark achievements brought about by President Tinubu’s visionary leadership.

“We express our profound gratitude to God for granting us the foresight to recognize that the Tinubu/Shettima ticket was the right leadership Nigeria needed at such a critical time.

“Furthermore, we thank the Almighty for giving us the strength to stand firm in our convictions, even when others in our faith did not share this vision.

“The joy in Southern Kaduna is rippling across Kaduna State and beyond, reaching neighboring states such as Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue, reinforcing the growing support for President Tinubu across our region.

“As staunch supporters of the President, we use this moment of celebration to assure Mr. President that Southern Kaduna stands firmly with him.

“The overwhelming joy and acceptance of his leadership in our region are translating into unwavering political support. The force of this movement continues to expand, influencing more states within our region.

“We also extend our deep appreciation to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his support in ensuring the realization of these institutions.

“Special recognition goes to Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, a distinguished leader of Southern Kaduna, as well as Hon. Amos Gwamna and all members of the National Assembly who played a pivotal role in advocating for the establishment of these institutions. Their dedication has brought joy, growth, and development to the people of Southern Kaduna.

“As a group that upholds the principle of religious tolerance, we urge the people of Southern Kaduna both  Christians and Muslims alike,  to continue to respect each other’s religions in a spirit of mutual tolerance.

“Through peaceful coexistence, the benefits of these newly established institutions will be fully realized, fostering progress and unity in our region.”

Presidency Recommends Sanction For “Erring” Youth Corper

NYSC Corps Rita Member and Bola Tinubu

By Ayodele Oni

The Presidency has clamped outright suspension on a serving member of the National Youth Corps, (NYSC) that criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, in a statement, pointed out that the action was a flagrant and open abuse and disregard of NYSC by-laws.

The serving corps member in Lagos State had sounded the alarm over alleged threats from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after her social media post criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In a video shared on TikTok via the handle @talktoraye, the corps member, visibly emotional, lamented the rising cost of living and described Tinubu’s government as “terrible” for not addressing the continuous increase in commodity prices.

She stated, “If more Nigerians speak up about what we are experiencing, perhaps there will be change. I don’t know if there has ever been a President as terrible as this, but this is truly a terrible government.”

The Presidential Aide, in a Facebook post wrote: “I suggested that flagrant and open abuse and disregard of NYSC by-laws and established protocol should attract the full NYSC disciplinary measures, particularly regarding a corps member’s recent display of imprudence.

“It is trite to say the maximum punishment under the NYSC protocol is expulsion; nothing beyond the established norms and laws is suggested or remotely implied.

“The NYSC scheme is a historic and treasured national programme that should not be sullied and ridiculed by indiscipline. It symbolises our triumph over division and consistent effort to forge a more potent and virile union.

“Most importantly,  we should abide by our old cherished values of dignity, discipline, and respect for one another as citizens.”

An Open Letter To Nasir El-Rufai – By Babafemi Ojudu

Babafemi Ojudu and Nasir el-Rufai

“Nasir, I wonder how principled individuals can sit at the same table with Major Al-Mustapha – Abacha’s CSO – whose hands are stained with blood of many innocent citizens, including Kudirat Abiola”

Dear Nasir,

This is a letter from a friend. I take the liberty of calling you a friend because, for nearly 12 years, we walked the same political path, sharing dreams of a better Nigeria within the same party. I also recall your 50th birthday when I persuaded two wealthy friends to accompany me to Dubai, where you were in exile, to celebrate with you. I made two other visits to Dubai with different delegations to meet with you and another of your friends from Canada. We also held another meeting in Accra, Ghana, for the same purpose.

I also traveled to Rwanda and Liberia to meet with Nuhu Ribadu, your friend and now your rival. These trips were in search of the right candidate to bear our presidential flag under the ACN at the time. Later, I arranged another meeting in Dubai between our leaders and Ribadu. Present at that meeting were Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Segun Osoba, Bisi Akande, Niyi Adebayo, Rauf Aregbesola, and several others.

But Ribadu, our chosen candidate, would not show up until the third day, prompting Osoba to joke that if he failed to come from his base in the U.S., I should forget about my senatorial ambition. Eventually, Ribadu arrived, and we settled for him. In anger, you defected to Goodluck Jonathan’s camp, but were soon sidelined.

I briefly managed Ribadu’s bid, mobilizing brilliant and enthusiastic young men and women for the campaign, but that effort was short-lived. That ACN bid for the presidency ended in disaster, a victim of our penchant for expediency. The next “transfer season” saw Atiku Abubakar picking up our ACN ticket, and that, too, failed woefully.

You were involved in all of this, as well as in the 2015 merger that produced Muhammadu Buhari. From a distance, I watched as a select group hurriedly cobbled together a semblance of a manifesto, which was soon discarded because it was not a product of collective reasoning.

Looking back, every effort since then—including the grand merger of CPC and ACN to form APC—has not led to any remarkable outcome. Individuals we once believed to be upright have grown richer, while the people they were meant to serve have grown poorer. Friendships long nurtured have been destroyed by unhealthy competition, leaving bitterness in their wake. And after all the battles fought, alliances made and broken, betrayals and reconciliations, our country remains in a state of coma.

I have also heard—though I have yet to confirm from you—that you led the committee set up by General Abdulsalami Abubakar to locate me when I was left in solitary confinement after the deaths of Abacha and Abiola, while others had been freed.

During my eight years working in the Presidency, our paths crossed often, whether in Abuja or Kaduna, where you served as governor.

But this letter is not about nostalgia or friendship. It is about your recent political moves and what they symbolize. I am not one of those criticizing you for leaving our so-called party. Far from it. My concern is about the endless merry-go-round of Nigerian politicians, the constant movement without direction—what Fela, the musician, once called “perambulation.”

The Question That Must Be Answered: What Is This Move Really About?

I am aware of your transition from APC to SDP, as well as the frenetic cross-carpeting of politicians across the country. But I sincerely hope this is not just another barber’s chair movement—spinning round and round but going nowhere.

They say only a madman does the same thing over and over again and expects a different result.

So, tell me, Nasir, is this about the people? Or is it another ego-driven exercise, fueled by personal ambition and the present discontent in the country?

Is this yet another hastily assembled political project, crafted to serve a few individuals who, having been sidelined from the feasting table of the current overlords, are now seeking a new platform to reposition themselves for the next political cycle?

I have always known you to be intelligent, hardworking, and sometimes strategic. But I must say, you have not always been consistent.

You take a position today, only to negate it tomorrow. And in politics, that kind of inconsistency is fatal. It does not make for the kind of leadership Nigeria needs at this critical juncture. If we are to truly liberate our people from the cesspool into which the country has sunk, we need leaders who stand firm on principle, not those who sway with the wind.

Forgive me if I seem to be getting personal. This letter is not really about you, Nasir. It is about the broader failure of Nigeria’s political culture—the shallowness of our party structures, the absence of real political organization, and the failure of governance.

But since individuals shape institutions, one cannot entirely separate the nature of our politics from the temperament of those who occupy the political space.

What We Lack Are Political Parties, Not Just Political Figures

Let me be blunt: Nigeria has no real political parties.

None of the current players—APC, PDP, or SDP—qualify as proper political institutions.

These are mere vehicles for power, hastily assembled contraptions used by those with means, guile, and bravado to seize office and, once there, engage in a contest to outspend Aliko Dangote.

This absence of well-structured, purpose-driven political organizations is why politicians in Nigeria keep defecting from one party to another, treating politics like European footballers switching clubs every transfer season.

Until we, the so-called political elite, understand what a real political party is—its structures, goals, and responsibilities—we will remain unprincipled, selfish, self-centered, and insincere actors who lack vision and patriotism.

Nasir, This Is Not About Owning a Party—It’s About Building One

For posterity’s sake, do not aim to own a party. Instead, mobilize like-minded people to build a truly national political institution, strong enough to withstand Nigeria’s turbulent political climate.

And when I say like-minded people, I wonder how principled individuals can sit at the same table with Major Al-Mustapha—the Chief Security Officer to General Sani Abacha, whose hands are stained with the blood of many innocent citizens, including Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.

I was riled and overwhelmed by indignation when I recently read of the elation with which you received him into your new party.

Why do we always forget so soon?

What is the definition of a party? What are its fundamental attributes? What goals must it pursue to qualify as a true political movement?

A party built on the primacy of personal ambition will not last. If you embark on this course without deep reflection and principled action, you will be back in four years, looking for another party to join or returning to the one you just left.

Take a cue from Chief Awolowo. When he and other patriots established the Action Group, they did not build it on personal ambition. They structured it around three core objectives:

1.The absence of ignorance – Free education for all.

  1. The absence of disease – Accessible healthcare.
  1. The absence of want – Economic empowerment and prosperity.
  1. From these goals, they crafted policies that transformed the Western Region.

Final Thoughts

Nasir, if this latest movement is just another barber’s chair—spinning but going nowhere—then you are wasting your time.

But if it is truly about the people, about genuine change, about building something enduring, then do it right.

History will judge.

Your friend,

Senator Babafemi Ojudu, CON

El-Rufai Haunted By Failure To Secure Ministerial Slot – APC

Nasir El-Rufai
Nasir El-Rufai

By Ayodele Oni

The All Progressives Congress, (APC), has said former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is still aggrieved over his inability to secure Ministerial slot in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The APC pointed out that El-Rufai is “traumatized” by his disqualification by the Senate for a Ministerial position, alleging that he is now turning against the party that brought him to political prominence.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC criticized El-Rufai’s recent call for opposition members to unite under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The Party described his appeal as an invitation to join a movement driven by “selfishness, vindictiveness, and delusions of grandeur.

“El-Rufai’s actions reek of a bruised ego and personal grievances rather than any genuine political ideology.

“Rather than showing gratitude to the platform that elevated him, he has resorted to undermining it in a desperate bid for relevance.”

El-Rufai, who was once a key figure in the APC, has been increasingly critical of the party in recent months, fueling speculation about his political future.

His recent entrance to, and endorsement of the SDP as a potential alternative has been met with mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a calculated move to realign himself politically.

The APC, however, insists that his efforts will not weaken the party, maintaining that it remains the dominant force in Nigerian politics.

“It Is Now Clear That Amaewfule-led Assembly Does Not Want Peace In River State” – Govt

Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Speaker Martin Amaewhule

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Rivers State Government on Monday March 17, 2025, warned of a bleak prospect for the people of the State, particularly civil/ public servants, amidst the uncooperative and aggressive attitude of the the State’s Lawmakers.

The State Government’s alarm-bell is tolling against the backdrop of the impeachment notice served on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy by the pro-Wike dominated State House of Assembly.

Earlier on Monday, news had broken about the decision of the Speaker Martins Amaewfule-led Legislators issuing a 14-day notice to the Governor and his Deputy to respond to series of impeachable allegations level against them.

The impeachment notice is equally coming on the heels of the Lawmakers’ repeated efforts at frustrating the Governor from re-presenting the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the House as directed by the Supreme Court in its February 28, 2025 ruling on the Rivers State political crisis.

The Legislators on Friday, March 14, 2025, rather than attend to the Governor’s letter requesting for a date to re-present the Budget estimate, proceeded on an indefinite recess.

The obviously belligerent Lawmakers had on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, locked out the Governor from the  Assembly Quarters ,when he initially came for the Budget estimate presentation.

The Lawmakers had adduced some clearly flimsy excuses ranging from non-receipt of a letter from the Governor to his failure to wait for a response as reasons for their actions.

The Rivers state Government in the face of the hurdles  placed on on its path has raised concerned over the gloomy future that awaits residents owing to the uncooperative and combative posture of the Pro-Wike dominated legislative body.

In a statement issued by Joseph Johnson, Commissioner for Information and Communication, on Monday, the State Government accused Speaker the Amaewfule-led Assembly of deliberately frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court decisions .

The Source reports that the Country’s Apex Court had ruled to halt the remittance of the monthly statutory Federal Allocation to both the State Government and Local Councils of the state .

While the State Government will start to receive its allocation upon the representation of the Budget to an enlarged House of Assembly presided over by Speaker Amaewfule ,the Local Government Areas ,will begin to have theirs after the conduct of fresh polls to enthrone democratically elected council officials .

“It is now common knowledge that members of the Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewfule-led Rivers State House of Assembly have, by their actions, refused to allow the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to fully implement the Supreme Court’s judgment on the prolonged political and legal battle that began after the failed attempt to impeach him in October 30, 2023.

“Since this unjustified onslaught against the Governor began, he has remained steadfast in his commitment to peace and his determination to put the people of Rivers state first,” the Commissioner stated .

The Commissioner expressed serious concern that the continued uncooperative attitude of the State Lawmakers is capable of having serious consequences on the people as well as governance in the state .

He, however, emphasized the commitment of the Governor towards exploring peace avenues  out of the present logjam despite  antagonism from the Legislators.

Rivers Police Command Says FCT Minister’s House Not Attacked

Nyesom Wike - FCT Minister

By Ayodele Oni

As the Lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Nyesom Wike commence impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the State Police Command has dismissed reports that the Port Harcourt residence of the Minister was attacked and set ablaze by hoodlums.

On Sunday night, report claimed that Wike’s residence was under siege and had been torched by unidentified individuals.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, described the reports as false and misleading.

The statement reads “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading and malicious report circulating on various online media platforms, falsely claiming that riots have erupted in Rivers State, leading to the burning of the residence of the former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, along with other acts of violence.

“The command had no record of such an incident and that the report was a deliberate attempt to incite unrest and spread fear.

“The Command categorically states that this report is entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to incite unrest and spread fear among law-abiding residents.

“There is no record of any such incident, and normalcy prevails across the state. The general public is urged to disregard these unfounded claims, which are clearly intended to cause panic and destabilize the relative peace and security enjoyed by the good people of Rivers State.

“Furthermore, the Police Command sternly warns those responsible for spreading such incendiary falsehoods to desist from engaging in activities capable of inciting public disorder.

“The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on individuals or groups found guilty of spreading misinformation or attempting to disrupt the peace in any form.”

She reassured the public of the police command’s commitment to maintaining security in the state and urged residents to rely on credible sources for information while reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

Rivers: I’ve Not Received Any Letter From House Of Assembly, Accusing Me Of Misconduct,” – Gov Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara

By Ayodele Oni

The Rivers State Government’s Executive Arm has averred that it has not received any official notification from the state House of Assembly alleging Governor Fuminalayi Fubara and his deputy of gross misconduct.

Commissioner for Information, Joe Johnson, made said this on Monday in response to remarks by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Enemi Alabo-George, who had accused Fubara of delaying the process.

In a letter of notice, on Monday, the lawmakers accused both Fubara and Odu of contravening the provisions of the law which indicate that funds could only be spent by public office holders in accordance with the constitution of the country.

In the notice forwarded to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, the lawmakers claimed that the action was in line with the Nigerian Constitution which mandated the Legislative arm to check the executive excesses.

However, the Commissioner accused the State House of Assembly of obstructing Governor Fubara’s efforts to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s political crisis.

Johnson pointed out that the Assembly has repeatedly ignored official communications from the governor, despite multiple attempts to engage with them.

He cited video evidence showing government efforts to deliver documents, which he claimed were deliberately disregarded by lawmakers.

Some of these correspondences, he added, had already been made public through national newspapers.

Addressing Alabo-George’s challenge regarding acknowledgment copies of the letters, Johnson explained that such documents could not be provided because the Assembly never accepted them in the first place.

He reaffirmed Fubara’s commitment to peace, noting that the governor had complied with a court directive transferring power from elected local government chairmen to Heads of Local Government Administrations.

Fubara, he said, had also expressed readiness to implement the remaining Supreme Court directives once he received the Certified True Copy of the judgment.

However, Johnson accused the Assembly of responding with hostility by issuing ultimatums to both the governor and the state electoral commission—a move he described as a calculated attempt to create unrest.

He claimed legal experts had also questioned the legitimacy of this action.

He further criticized the Assembly’s call for an investigation into the Chief Judge, arguing that their recent actions revealed a lack of genuine concern for the state’s welfare.

The Akwa Ibom Police Command, on Monday March 17, 2025, said plans have been concluded to arraign a middle aged man, Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, over the gruesome murder of his girlfriend.

The Command informed  that Nelson, 32,  was  apprehended at a Church in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital  for, allegedly, murdering his girlfriend Emem Monday Effanga, 39, around February 6, 2025, at her apartment, over disagreement arising from her refusal to part with her mobile phone.

“Sometime in February, 2025, the Command received a report that the deceased was found dead in her apartment under suspicious circumstances.

“Upon arrival at the scene, operatives observed visible marks of violence on her face and neck suggesting she had been strangled and beaten to death.

“The scene was processed, evidence documented, and the body was evacuated to the hospital, where she was confirmed clinically dead by medical personnel.

” Following swift investigations, detectives traced the last person seen with the deceased to be Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, who had visited her residence on 6th February 2025, the morning of his birthday .

“The suspect was later tracked to a Church in Uyo, where he attempted to escape upon sighting Police Operatives but was swiftly pursued and apprehended” the Police stated.

According to the Police statement, during interrogation , Nelson  confessed to actually visiting the deceased on the said day (February 6,2025).

He also admitted that a struggle between the two had ensued following the refusal of the victim to give him her phone to take pictures for his birthday celebration on the social media.

“When she refused ,a struggle ensued ,during which he overpowered her, strangled her with his hands, and struck her head on the floor with fist blows ,leaving her unconscious before fleeing with her phone.

“One Itel Super Phone belonging to the deceased was recovered from him at the time of arrest”, the police stated.

The Command’s Spokesman added that a post-mortem examination has been conducted and the cause of death has been officially established by a pathologist.

“Consequently, the Command said the suspect will soon be arraigned in court.”

This is even as the  Commissioner of Police, CP, Baba Mohammed Azare, assured that justice will be served, while also urging the public to always remain vigilant and security conscious.
