Again, Atiku Slams Wike: “I Rejected You Because You Are Agent Of Division, Lack National Appeal”

1
Atiku Abubakar and Nyesom Wike

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday March, 29 ,2025 further justified his decision to snub Nyesom Wike as his running mate in the count down to the 2023 Presidential Election.

The Source reports that Atiku had opted for former Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

Addressing the issue first on Friday, March 28, Abubakar expressed no regret over the  decision he made, insisting that a Committee had recommended Okowa  ahead of Wike and then Governor of Akwa Ibom State Udom Emmanuel.

However ,the comment did not go down  well with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, who lashed the former Vice President over alleged misrepresentation of facts .

Wike, in a statement through his Media Aide on Friday, also noted that he had no regret being shunned  by the PDP Presidential Candidate.

He expressed happiness for his role in truncating the ambition of the former Vice  President to  govern the Country .

The former Rivers State Governor similarly pledged to do same again should Abubakar venture into the Presidential Race in 2027 .

But in a statement from his Media office on Saturday, the former Vice President noted that Wike was rejected because of his unsuitability for the position in terms of National appeal.

According to Abubakar, Wike’s choice was not good for a ticket that was intended to promote national unity.

He explained that Wike’s behaviour both in Abuja and in general has lent credence to their conclusion that his presence would have  bred  national division.

Abubakar noted that Dr Okowa was chosen due to his high intellect, composure and statesmanship.

The PDP Presidential Candidate emphasized the pre-eminence of good conduct, humility and decorum in political considerations.

Following is the full text of Atiku Abubakar’s press statement.

“The attention of Atiku Media Office has been drawn to yet another emotional outburst disguised as a press statement from the camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, issued by his aide, Lere Olayinka.

“While we understand that bitterness often finds expression in misplaced aggression, we must remind Mr. Wike and his team that a bitter heart isn’t capable of charity, nor does it inspire unity, healing, or truth.

“Once again, facts have been twisted in a desperate attempt to rewrite history. Mr. Wike, through his spokesperson, claims that he had 13 votes from a Committee set up to recommend a Vice Presidential Running Mate, while Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had only two. Let us be clear: there are no laid down rules or laws on the selection process of a Running Mate. Committees, consultations, and recommendations are advisory. The final decision rests solely and exclusively with the Presidential Candidate, in this case, Atiku Abubakar. It is a constitutional and strategic choice, not a popularity contest.

“Assuming, but not conceding that Wike had 13 votes and Okowa had 2 — just like Universities confer degrees in learning and in character — one must ask: what is the worth of votes if character scores a zero? Leadership is not only about numbers; it is about temperament, dignity, and the ability to unify. A man may boast of numbers, but if his conduct lacks grace and humility, those numbers are empty.”

Atiku emphasised that it is time to put aside wounded egos and concentrate on Nigeria’s future and the welfare of its people.

“We make no apologies for choosing Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate in 2023. That decision was based on a combination of intellect, composure, and statesmanship.

“We have been vindicated by Mr. Wike’s public conduct in Rivers State, where he once served as Governor, and in Abuja since becoming FCT Minister, which has made it abundantly clear why he was unsuitable for the role of Vice President in a ticket meant to unify, not divide.

“We urge Mr. Wike and his social media spokesperson to resist the temptation to sermonize about religious piety during Ramadan and Lent, too, while simultaneously fanning the flames of discord. Let us not reduce sacred periods to a tool for petty political jabs.”

High Chief Uduaghan, Senator Natasha’s Husband, Sues Senator Nwebonyi

0
High Chief Uduaghan and Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi

By Adesina Soyooye

The foul-mouthed Senator representing Ebonyi North in the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has again talked himself into trouble. And, if he does not put a break to his mouth, which many say runs like diarrhoea over the se3ual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, he could be the one carrying the can for Akpabio.

Recall that a few days ago, Senator Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate had, publicly, insulted a former Minister for Education, Oby Ezekwesili over the Akpabio/Akpoti-Uduaghan issue.  It was at the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, sitting on the issue.

Ezekwesili, a former Vice President of the World Bank, Africa, had come as an observer and an unabashed sympathiser to the complaints made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Akpabio, while Senator Nwebonyi was there as Akpabio’s witness.

While discussions were proceeding, Nwebonyi said something to the effect that there was no point as the other side had nothing to say. Ezekwesili asked him to shut up. An outraged Nwebonyi hit the roof. It was like pouring fuel into an already blazing fire. He insulted Ezekwesili silly. Called her a fool repeatedly. A fool at 70. (For the records Ezekwesili is 61). Dubbed her a disgrace to womanhood and capped it by asking her to shut her smelly mouth. Ezekwesili in turn dismissed him as a hooligan.

Since that incident which shocked not a few people, women groups and several individuals have strongly condemned the Senator and a few have canvassed for his recall or public apology. He remains unrepentant.

Now, over the same Akpabio/Akpoti-Uduaghan issue, Nwebonyi has again entered into hot water.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband, a Traditional Chief of Warri Kingdom, an entrepreneur, and businessman, has threatened to drag him to Court. His offence?

While defending Akpabio, Nwebonyi had said the High Chief married Akpoti-Uduaghan under duress; that she blackmailed him into marrying her.

The Chief is, therefore, demanding a written apology, and has given him the whole of 14 days to comply or face the consequences.

In a letter dated March 27, to Nwebonyi, Chief Uduaghan’s Counsel, Ehiogie West-Idahosa, SAN, said the Chief would seek legal action after the 14-day ultimatum.

Nwebonyi incurred the Chief’s anger in an interview he granted News Central Television where he alleged that Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan forced her husband into marriage through blackmail. He insisted  that the union between the two was contracted under duress.

His words: “In my own assessment she is not among the beautiful women in Nigeria and it is high time we come hard on her and why people like us are speaking on top of our voice is not just to protect and defend the Senate president but to protect and defend her future victims. Even her present husband, she married him out of something like this. She threatened to sue the man. I have a letter circulated over the world that the man should pay her N10 billion or marry her under duress.

“So the marriage was under duress. A product of blackmail. I was watching a video of how the father of the first wife of the husband narrated her ordeal. This lady came into their family, destabilised the family and took over her husband. And without going into her character, ask Senator Natasha how many husbands has she had in her life at the age of 47 or 45?

Defamation and reputational damage

Chief Uduaghan’s lawyer, in the letter,  refuted the allegations and posited that  Natasha and Chief Uduaghan are well-respected people.

He wrote: “The said defamatory statements made by you were widely circulated by users of other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and many more within and outside Nigeria with the intention of damaging the reputation of our clients.

“Contrary to the malicious words spoken by you, our clients are very respectable, successful, result oriented and self-decision driven members of the Nigerian Society. Chief Uduaghan is a very successful businessman, community leader, high chief and philanthropist, known for upholding cherished values of the Nigerian society to the admiration of many.

“The defamatory statements had caused embarrassment, distrust, and damage to the couple’s reputation among family, friends, and associates.

“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is a successful Nigerian politician, opinion moulder, defender of the needy, efficient wife and mother well admired at home and abroad.

“Since you uttered your said defamatory words that were widely aired, some family members, friends, political and business associates of our clients now view them with a strange level of disdain and distrust. Our clients have been deeply embarrassed by the extent and effect of your false and malicious words.”

Public apology or legal action

“Consequently, we hereby demand a written apology from you within 14 days from the date of your receipt of this letter. The apology should be widely circulated. It must, in particular, be aired on News Central TV and published by various social media platforms which published your defamatory words.

“Failing a satisfactory response from you, our instruction is to initiate the necessary legal process to seek redress for our clients.”

Senator Nwebonyi has not commented on the letter yet.

Senate Leader, Bamidele Flays Critics Of Emergency Rule In Rivers, Insists Action Taken To Ease Political Tension

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele

By Ayodele Oni

Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele has defended the decision of the National Assembly to ratify the proclamation of state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

Bamidele insisted that the National Assembly should be commended and not vilified.

As a responsible and responsive parliament, Bamidele argued that an emergency “is an extraordinary measure, and it must be treated as such in the interest of peace and without subjecting to the scrutiny of some parochial interests.”

He made the clarifications on Saturday, at the 29th convocation of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, where he was decorated with a honorary degree, Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa.

Bamidele received the honour alongside Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji and Chairman, Governing Board, Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, thus making it the third honorary doctorate he received between January 2003 and March 2025.

The convocation was attended by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy President, Jubril Barau; Deputy Leader,  Lola Ashiru; Deputy Whip, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi and Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Olamilekan Adeola, among others.

Giving insight into the interventions of the National Assembly, Bamidele observed that the proclamation of emergency rule in Rivers State and its ratification by the National Assembly significantly eased political tension in the state.

But for this laudable decision that prevented further descent into anarchy in Rivers State, the senate leader believed that the National Assembly “has been subjected to all forms of toxic criticism that do not portray us well before the comity of nations.

“What exactly do we want as a people? A federation that functions for all? Or a federation that relapses into an intractable crisis?

“We must recognise that emergency rule is an extraordinary measure, and it must be treated as such in the interest of peace and security.

“As stipulated in Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the National Assembly is required to provide its details. The provisions of the 1999 Constitution cannot be interpreted casually without proper understanding of the Nigeria Interpretation Act. 2004.

“As a responsible and responsive parliament that sees peace and stability as a catalyst of growth and development, we were inaugurated into office to promote a nation that works for all and that guarantees the peaceful coexistence of all.

“This desire defines our resolve to ratify the proclamation of the state of emergency in Rivers State with far-reaching provisions.

“One of such provisions is the constitution of the National Peace Committee to midwife the peace process between the Executive and Legislature in the state.

“We should be commended for this laudable initiative and not be vilified by some political actors, who do not bother about what happens to our national security, but about their parochial interest. Regardless of their unpatriotic moves, we firmly stand for the peace and stability of Nigeria.

“We shall continue to leverage the Authority of the National Assembly to guarantee her peaceful co-existence. Our decision, as an institution, is taken purely in the national interest. If any interest is unsatisfied with it, they can as well seek redress in the law court.”

He expressed grave concerns about  barrage of attacks that the opposition parties are viciously launching against the National Assembly, noting that the reasons for such attacks “are purely based on emotion and not reasons; sentiment and not substance.

“Regardless of baseless and needless attacks our critics are throwing at the National Assembly, we are undeterred because we are truly on a rescue mission.

“The essence of the mission aims at bringing our fatherland from the abyss of regression to the path of progression through the enactment of pro-people legislations and by cultivating strategic collaboration with other arms of government.

“Collaboration, in this sense, does not suggest the erosion of the independence of the National Assembly for any reason. Rather, in reality, it reinforces the spirit of interdependence that constitutional democracy entails in order to resolve hydra-headed issues that often clog the mechanism of accountable governance.”

Bamidele, therefore, revealed that the National Assembly more than before “is now focused on building a federation that enjoys internal stability and that rests solidly on the rules of law through the instrumentality of legislation, oversight and representation.

“We are also committed to creating a system that will enable quality education; that will guarantee limitless placements for all our graduates; that will prioritise access to decent houses nationwide; that will significantly reverse our nation’s reports of untold misery and that will, most importantly, remove all barriers to gender inequality.”

Ondo NUJ, Teaching Hospital, Take Position On Sale Of Caskets

Ondo University of Medical Sciences - UNIMED

By Ayodele Oni

Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed concern over the blatant display and sale of coffins and caskets within the premises of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo.

According to the Union, the sale occurs in close proximity to vital areas, such as the mortuary, Out Patient Department (OPD), and Emergency Unit of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital.

The Management of the hospital,  has dismissed claims that caskets are being sold within the hospital premises, clarifying that the casket storage facility at the mortuary is strictly for bodies awaiting collection by their families.

The NUJ in a communiqué at the end of its monthly Congress, called for immediate relocation of the Caskets shop operated by a private entity to a more appropriate location, away from the hospital, to prevent further psychological distress to patients.

The Union emphased the ethical implications of such activities and the potential damage it could do to the university’s reputation, given its role in health education and care.

The Management of UNIMEDTH however refutes such assertion as it is a misrepresentation of the fact.

“For clarity, the mortuary, which operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, has undergone significant improvements, including the construction of a designated casket storage area.

“This facility is meant for families who bring in caskets in advance for their deceased loved ones before final burial arrangements are made.

“It is not a sales outlet, nor does the hospital engage in or permit the commercial sale of caskets within its premises.

“The mortuary itself is a distinct entity, separated from the main hospital building by a fence, reinforcing its operational independence.

“Over time, the facility has enhanced its services, including the installation of modern cooling chambers, a standby power generator, and a well-maintained environment to provide dignified mortuary services.

“On rare occasions, families may choose to purchase caskets from external vendors and store them at the mortuary before the final burial rites.

“However, this should not be misinterpreted as casket sales taking place within the hospital. The primary focus of the mortuary remains the professional handling and preservation of deceased persons.

“UNIMEDTH assures the public of its commitment to maintaining a dignified, ethical, and professional healthcare environment. The management urges the public to disregard misleading information and avoid spreading unfounded claims that could cause unnecessary panic.”

Obi Debunks Meeting With APC, Says “I Don’t Engage In Toxic Politics, Blackmail”

“Valentine Ozigbo should be evaluated on merit, not political blackmail or controversy”

Peter Obi, Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Election has distanced himself from a planned meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The former Anambra State Governor emphasized that he does not engage in toxic politics or blackmail.

Obi took to his X and  issued a statement where he warned against associating his name with political narratives that do not align with his principles.

He wrote, “I have come across a report circulating on social media regarding an APC gathering where my name was mentioned. Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives.

“I Am Not an APC Member”, he stated categorically.

He further reaffirmed his political stance, stating that he is neither a member of the APC, nor planning to join the party, reiterating his commitment to integrity, fairness, and issue-based politics, urging that political aspirants should be judged based on competence, capacity, and compassion, rather than partisan interests.

Speaking on the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election, Obi addressed speculations surrounding Valentine Ozigbo, he maintained that every aspirant should be evaluated on merit rather than being subjected to political blackmail or controversy.

“Elections and Primaries should not be reduced to toxic narratives or personal attacks. Political choices should be guided by credibility, vision, and the ability to deliver real change—not by dragging individuals into needless controversy,” Obi asserted.

Obi however called on all political parties, including his own, to conduct credible, transparent, and democratic primaries. He emphasized that aspirants deserve a fair and unbiased chance to contest in their respective parties.

“This election presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria to embrace true democracy, something that remains elusive in our nation today,” he stated.

Fubara Responds To Nweke’s Allegations, Dismisses Them As Laughable

George Nwaeke and Simi Fubara

By Adesina Soyooye

“The truth is that Dr Nweke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me” -Fubara

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has described as ridiculous and laughable the  shocking allegations made against him by his Head of Service, Dr George Nweke who resigned from office as soon as President Bola Tinubu’s appointed Sole Administrator for the State assumed office.

Nweke had surprisingly left Port Harcourt for Abuja on Friday where  he addressed a Press Conference and accused Fubara of all kinds of atrocities committed against the State.

In a statement he posted on his Facebook page, Fubara not only dismissed the allegations as hog-wash, but expressed surprise that Nweke could be so compromised.

For the records, a distraught Mrs Nweke, had said her husband must have spoken under duress and feared for his life. She said it was not possible that her husband who told her he resigned from office under duress because he refused to sign some documents to implicate Fubara, would suddenly turn around and accuse him of such criminal acts. “Not my husband”, she said, and begged Fubara for pardon.

Following is Fubara’s response:

“My attention has been drawn to a press briefing by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke aired on Channels Television on Friday the 28th of March 2025.

“Ordinarily, I would not have responded to his claims, but to correct the erroneous impression such allegations may create in the minds of the people, and the disaffection it is bound to cause in the state and the country.

“First, on the claim that he was aware of my discussions and plans to support Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid, it is laughable that Dr. Nweke would be part of any high level political meeting as Head of Service, much more sitting in my alleged night meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants like he claimed.

“Howbeit, none of such meetings ever held.

“The truth is that the whole world knew when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum visited the State, and there was nothing secret about the visits.

“It is also ludicrous for Dr. Nweke to claim that he was aware of my meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other National assets in the State, as there was no time I held any meeting with militants or any criminal group to destabilise the State.

“It is on record that I have been at the forefront preaching peace in the State even in the face of obvious provocations.

“The truth is that Dr. Nwaeke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is only aimed at fulfilling his promise to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie against me.

“I call on all well meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nwaeke as they are mere desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and undermine the peace process by Mr. President.”

Rivers: Rotimi Amaechi Hits Tinubu, Accuses Him Of Intimidating Governors, Power Grab

Rotimi Amaechi and Bola Tinubu2
Rotimi Amaechi and President Bola Tinubu

By Adesina Soyooye

“If the President declared a state of emergency in Rivers over insecurity and suspended Fubara, should a state of emergency be declared in Nigeria and the President syspended because there is insecurity everywhere in Nigeria, and the President is in charge. It is not possible.  So, why punish an innocent man?”

Former Presidential Aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Rotimi Amaechi, has slammed President Bola Tinubu over the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State.

Amaechi, a former two-term Governor of Rivers State and the immediate past Minister for Transportation under the President Muhammadu Buhari said that by declaring a State of Emergency in the State,  the President has done two things – embarked on a power-grab, and intimidated Governors to line up behind him against 2027 or get same treatment.

Amaechi, known for his blunt manner of speaking, in  an interview with DW Africa on Saturday, said the plans were between the President and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike. Wike was Amaechi’s Chief of Staff, and successor in office.

He condemned, strongly, the President’s action in Rivers State, and said that Fubara was punished for an offence he didn’t commit.

It is politically motivated, he submitted.

Amaechi: “It is between the President and the FCT Minister.

“The President wants a power grab. They want to frighten Governors who may not support them in 2027.

So, there is a rumour everywhere that if you are not careful, the President will remove you.

“If the president said it is because of insecurity, because they blew the pipeline, what about part of the country where there is insecurity?

“Is the president saying they should impose emergency rule on him too? They can’t, because he is a democratically elected President. Nobody can impose an emergency rule on him because there is serious insecurity in the North-east, North-west — even in South-east and South-West.

“Rivers Governor has no security responsibility. It rests squarely on the President. So why punish a man who did not commit an offence?”

Amaechi called on the  Rivers State people resist  President Tinubu’s action and engage in democratic protests to express their opposition to the declaration of Emergency Rule and the suspension of the Governor and all democratically elected people from office.

Mr President declared a State of Emergency in the State for an initial period of six months. He appointed a Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, and suspended the Governor, his Deputy and the Members of the State House of Assembly from office.

Fmr Rivers HoS, Nweke Stabs Fubara On The Back, Accuses Him Of Atrocities

George Nweke and His Wife and Simi Fubara

Wife contradicts him, says he is acting under duress. “My husband will never, in his right senses, speak against Fubara”

The political crisis in Rivers State has entered an unbelievable, dangerous and, at once, ridiculous stage. The recently, according to him, voluntarily,  resigned Head of Service under suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Dr George Nweke, has stabbed him on the back.

Nweke had resigned from office as soon as the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, appointed by President Bola Tinubu assumed office.

Many wondered why he did,  especially, as Ibas, while accepting his resignation said it was with sadness and wished him well in his future endeavours.

But on Friday, March 28, a strange scene in the political crisis in Rivers State which is looking more like a Nollywood African Magic Movie unfolded. Dr Nweke surprisingly surfaced in Abuja and made very terrible allegations against his former Principal, Fubara.

In the long statement, Nweke indicted Fubara, and tried as much as possible to drag a number of people into the mess. They include the respected former Governor of the State, Dr. Peter Odili, Bauchi State Governor  Bala Mohammed  Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri,  the State NLC Leadership, and the, at once, famed and notorious Niger Delta Militants.

However, his wife Florence, shocked to her marrows, in an interview said her husband had earlier told her that he resigned because he was being forced to sign false reports against Fubara, particularly of a whopping sum of N15b, allegedly, taken by Fubara.

Mrs Nweke said whatever her husband said, it was under duress. She said he suddenly left for Abuja after informing her of a phone call from a friend, who invited him to Abuja. The last time she spoke to her husband, she said, was on his arrival to Abuja. Since then, she lamented, she has not been able to reach him.  She seeks for help, and fears he has been kidnapped.

However, on Saturday, Nweke disclosed he was at  the  Hilton hotel, very comfortable, and from where he is throwing his bombs at everybody. He is in Abuja, he said, on the invitation of Security Agencies.

Following is Dr Nweke’s public indictment of Fubara and others, where he, also, thanked Mr President for declaring a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

“With the loads of misinformation on print and electronic media, I have chosen to put the record straight, I was not sacked neither was I pressured to resign, I did it willingly from the depth of my heart, however as an insider and a key player in this administration by my position, who worked closely with Siminilayi Fubara, it will be unfair for me to keep silent or not to address some key factors that has affected or will affect our state if we continue on this trajectory.

“I want to use this medium to thank Mr. President for a swift intervention in Rivers State crisis especially on the state of emergency that was declared and assented to by the National Assembly.

“You will recall that when the governor was suspended, as the head of service I was the next in command so I am not speaking from outside, I am speaking as an insider. If not for the intervention of Mr. President Nigeria would have faced the worst economic sabotage and Rivers State would have been up in flames.

“First, it all started with the Rivers State House of Assembly were the Governor, Siminilayi Fubara directed his Chief of Staff (Edison Ehie) to burn down the assembly in a way to avert his impeachment, that evening Edison was in government house with two other boys, including the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA one Chijioke. I was there with them when a bag of money was handed over to Edison for that operation, though I do not know the amount inside.”

“A day after that incident, I almost resigned but I was very scared because I know the power of a sitting governor and he knew that I am aware of the whole plan and that I am discomforted with the unconscionable act and deliberate posture of innocence and mien of a sheep.

“Another attempt was also made to destroy the residential quarters of the house of assembly members if not for the press conference that was made there by Rivers youths, Rivers elders and National Assembly members, that would have been another barbaric demolition in Rivers State.

“Fubara told me he would have pulled down the hall of the Assembly members before visiting the residential quarters. I was shocked at the former governor’s readiness to destroy his state assets and waste public funds on a needless ego fight.

“Thirdly I want to advice some key stakeholders who have condemned the State of Emergency made by the President and confirmed by the National Assembly to retract their statements, I also understand that they are only seeing the surface. If the President did not take proactive step, no one knows who would have been affected by the sinister plans that were cooking.

“While I thank Mr. president for the State of Emergency that was declared in Rivers State for a period of 6months, I will plead with him not to give up on Rivers State affairs because a lot are going on there with Governor Fubara.

“One of the factors that got me removed was when Governor Fubara told me that they will use the Ijaws to decide who will become the next President of Nigeria and I asked him how will that work? Is it by votes or by what means?

“He clearly told me that he is the chief security officer of Rivers State and his brother is in charge of Bayelsa State and all the pipelines are under their care that at the appropriate time they will tell the boys what to do and fund was not an issue. That was why when he made that statement in his public function that “I will tell the boys what to do at the appropriate time’ I knew something was up and perhaps the time was near.

“He boasted to be the “David that will bring down the Goliath of Rivers State. That he has the backing of the cream-de-la cream in the state. The likes of Dr. Peter Odili and family promised to use their contacts in the judiciary including some members of their University Council to break new ground for him.

“The plan was to start from non-Ijaw speaking areas to destroy oil facilities to remove attention from the Ijaw and make it have a statewide look. The Ogoni, Oyibo, Ahoda areas were to be bombed first before the Ijaw zones. This would have brought down the government of President Tinubu and usher in a new President from the coalition of political parties with a Vice President from the Ijaws.

“The media was to be captured by paying heavily for airtime and retaining the social media influencers and known social critics in their payroll. I am not unaware of what this revelation means but I am doing this to free my conscience and warn those innocent persons that are used to sway public sentiment, that there is more than meet the eyes in the Rivers matter.

“Sometime, I sleep over in government house but I started being uncomfortable when Gov. Bala Mohammed and some other stakeholders started nocturnal visits to Rivers State. I recalled after one of such visits he told me that he will support Bala Mohammed for president or any other northerner. That discussion are ongoing.

“Though, I was not bothered about who he support but I was more concerned about the quantum of state resources that he releases to theses visitors at each visit.

“Let me also draw the attention of Nigeria Labour Congress to call the Chairman of their Rivers State chapter to order to avoid politicizing Labour. I am privy to several private meetings between the Governor and the Labour leader in the state and the largesse that accompanied each meeting to compromise the Labour Union.

“More worrisome is several meetings between the governor, his chief of staff and some militant leaders. The details of which meetings I am not privy to since I was not allowed into the meetings. However, each meeting ended with huge sum of money paid to attendees.

“I wish to state categorically that Rivers people and indeed Nigerians are the beneficiary of the declaration of state of emergency rule in Rivers State and not Gov. Fubara or Minister Wike.

“Finally, I wish to call on Mr. President to urge the Sole Administrator to step up his guards and be very vigilant because I am aware of the sinister arrangement and dastardly plans to continue to hatch their plans if not put in check. This account for the organized media condemnations and seeming public outcry against Mr. President and National Assembly.”

Nweke’s Wife Cries For Help, Begs Fubara

In response to her husband’s statement, Mrs Florence  Nweke has not only asked Fubara to pardon him, but has asked Nigerians to help her husband.

A distraught Mrs Nweke in an interview told Journalists  she was afraid for her husband’s life.

She said: “When he got to Abuja, he called that he had landed. I said, ‘Thank God’.

“The next thing I saw this night: people were calling me and said he got an interview. I said, ‘What interview? Interview for what?’ Not until I saw things flying on the internet that he granted an interview. What happened? I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband.’

“So I sent him a message. I said, ‘Are you under duress?’ I sent him a message. I said, ‘Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not talking to me?’ This is the message I sent to him when I saw his interview online.

“Oh, Jesus, help me. Nigerians, help me. My husband is in trouble. My husband is in trouble. My husband is in trouble. My husband is in trouble. Look at the message I sent to him. See the message I sent to him. I said, ‘Daddy, why? Were you in hostage?’

I said, ‘Why didn’t you talk to me?’ These are the messages I sent to him, but he didn’t reply to me. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me! Nigerians, help me!”

Mrs Nwaeke, in another video, called on Governor Fubara for help.

“Governor, help me. My husband is in trouble.

He is in trouble. My husband resigned under duress.

“My husband is being forced to confess to things he knew nothing about.

My Husband Can’t Sign Anything Against Fubara

In a video shared by Channels Television Mrs Nweke begged Fubara:

“It’s not him.  He resigned and said that he can’t sign anything against you.

“My husband is in trouble. I can’t reach him. I don’t know if they have killed him or if he is being held hostage. I have been calling him, but there is no response. Please help me find him.”

But Fubara responded: Governor Fubara responded by expressing surprise and questioning why his former HoS would turn against him, considering their  relationship.

Fubara to Nweke’s wife: “You are sure you are not aware of his actions? There is nothing that happens that he doesn’t share with you. Where have I offended him? After everything I have done for you people, why would he lie against me?”

But Nweke’s wife insisted that her husband would never betray the governor.

She said:  “It’s not him. He resigned and said that he can’t sign anything against you. He had refused to be part of any wrongdoing.”

Wike To NBA: You Rejected Emergency Rule Because Of Money

Nyesom Wike - FCT Minister

The Minister of the Federal Cpital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has lashed out at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, over the Association’s stand on the Emergency Rule declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers state.

Wike is a lawyer and his wife Suzzette , a respected Judge of the Court of Appeal.

The minster, a former governor of the oil bearing state accused the NBA of being driven by monetary gains, warning that the profession is being destroyed by some lawyers because of what they will benefit.

He also accused some  of those criticsing the recent Supreme Court ruling on the crisis in the restive oil bearing state, saying they may not have thoroughly red the apex court judgment on the issue.

Wike spoke when the Body of Benchers, BoB,  led by its chairman Adegboyega Awomolo paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

On March 19, President Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in the state, suspended Governor Siminalaye Fubara and his Deputy, members of the state House of Assembly, and appointed a Sole Administration, in a very controversial manner that has elicited the criticisms of not a few Nigerians and the NBA, which described the action as unconstitutional.

Speaking Wike disclosed that the NBA criticised the president’s action because they have lost sponsorship for this year’s conference from the state government due to Governor Fubara’s suspension from office.

The minister argued that the judges of the country are being vilified by those that are supposed to defend the nation’s Temple of Justice, wondering why judges are accused of bribery whenever they received support from the government, noting that NBA also receive financial support regularly, citing the construction of NBA National Secretariat for which the minister claimed to be the ‘sole contributor’.

The minister urged the BoB to rise up to the occasion by ensuring discipline in the profession.

“The NBA is against the state of emergency because there would be no money to give them for their conference. What kind of hypocrisy is this?” the FCT minister said.

“Some NBA members go on national television to condemn judgments without even reading them! If you don’t discipline somebody, nobody will learn any lesson.

“We shall no longer allow our profession to be pulled down. I cannot believe, as a lawyer, that you make a contribution to help the legal profession and you will be criticised by your fellow lawyers.

“Sir, the time has come that we need to say look, enough is enough. We cannot continue to discourage our judges and justices. It is not done anywhere.

“I have never seen where members of a profession are the ones bent on bringing the profession down.

“I was the only one who contributed to the NBA to build the national secretariat. The NBA didn’t see it as a bribe.

“When you contribute to the Body of Benchers, it is a bribe, but when you contribute to the NBA, it is not a bribe—they will take it!

“The same NBA will rely on state governments to sponsor their activities, but when the state government supports the judiciary, it is bribery,” Wike declared.

The magazine reports that the minister’s critics have called on the BoB to discipline for his alleged role in the protracted political crisis in the state.
