Two Judges of the Kano State Judiciary have been slammed with disciplinary  measures by the State Judicial Service Commission over perceived professional misconducts.

While Mansur Ibrahim of the Upper Shariah Court was issued with a warning over the use of  inappropriate language against a litigant, his counterpart, Nasiru Ahmed was given a query, and subsequently, served a cautionary letter for conducts suggestive of personal interests in a matter involving a judgment debt.

A statement from the spokesperson for the Commission, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, on said the disciplinary measures were sequel to the adaptation of the report of an investigative committee by the  Commission during its 80th Meeting.

“In line with its mandate, the Commission adopted the recommendations of the investigations carried out by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee, and resolved to suspend two Court Registrars, and issue formal warnings to two Upper Shariah Court Judges whose conducts fall short of expected standards”, the Commission noted

According to the statement, the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee had  recommended the measure against Justice Ahmad for ordering the unlawful detention of a judgment debtor, a move  which was indicative of personal interest, as well as open compromise of judicial impartiality.

The Commission warned that Judicial Officers, should, at all times, exercise discretionary powers with a sense of fairness, justice and  objectivity so as not to erode public confidence and trust in the system.

In the same vein, the  Commission, slammed  a six-month suspension without pay on Ibrahim Adamu, a Principal Registrar 2 with the State High Court for engaging in a verbal assault and attempted physical combat with a superior personnel.

Adamu who is to also have his routine promotion exercise differed was said to have, not long ago committed same offence, as a result of which he was  queried ,and found guilty of gross misconduct.

For demanding and accepting what the Commission described as improper gratification, Maigida Lawan, a Principal Registrar with the Shariah Upper  Court, was demoted from grade level 13 to 12, in addition to a six-month suspension without salary.

Kogi suspended Senator, Natasha  Akpoti-Uduaghan in a fresh letter to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has insisted that she is not afraid, remains unbought, and unbroken, despite her trivial.

The letter, addressed directly to Akpabio, reads, “Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio,

“It is with the deepest sarc@sm and utmost the@trical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence.

“I have reflected extensively on my unforgivable failure to recognize that legislative success in certain quarters is apparently not earned through merit, but through the ancient art of compliance — of the very personal kind.

“How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your… ‘requests’ was not merely a personal choice, but a constitutional violation of the unwritten laws of certain men’s entitlement.

“Truly, I must apologize for prioritizing competence over c@pitulation, vision over vanity, and the people’s mandate over private dinners behind closed doors.

“I now realize the c@tastrophic consequences of my actions: legislation delayed, tempers flared, and the tragic bruising of egos so large they require their own postcodes. For this disruption to the natural order of ‘quid pro quo,’ I bow my head in fictional sh@me.

“Please find it in your magnanimous heart — somewhere buried deep beneath layers of entitlement — to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections.

“I remain,

Yours in eternal resistance,

Senator Natasha H Akpoti Uduaghan

Unafraid, Unbought, and Unbroken.”

Sanwo-Olu To Obi: “Tell Me What You Achieved As Anambra Governor”

Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Peter Obi

By Akinwale Kasali

Governor Babajide  Sanwo-olu of Lagos State has asked Peter Obi, Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate at the 2023 Election to stop disparaging President Bola Tinubu’s Government. He made the remarks in response to Obi’s speech at the John Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, United of America on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

Sanwo Olu said Obi  made unflattering remarks not just about the incumbent Nigerian Government, but also about Nigeria. The Lagos State Governor said Obi’s pattern of behaviour was disturbing.

He stressed further that when prominent Nigerians go overseas, they ought to project Nigeria positively. He said, in a personally signed statement that they do not have to do that for the Government in power, but they owe a duty to market Nigeria on the global stage rather than de-market her.

He added that this is what true patriotism is about.

“Any leader can fight poverty generationally by promoting education, improving healthcare, providing credit, and granting access to land.

“Now, I find it somewhat ironic that a man like Mr. Obi, who did not build a single school or a stand-alone hospital throughout his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra or sustainably provide credit facilities, would criticise the Government of Nigeria, which is actively doing that.

“I say this because the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is my predecessor, and as Governor of Lagos and now President of Nigeria, has built over 200 schools and provided student loans to more than 200,000 undergraduates of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

“In less than two years, he has provided over half a billion dollars in credit facilities to small and medium-scale enterprises.

“While he was Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, the President reduced poverty by more than 46%. There is every reason to believe that, based on what he did as Governor of Lagos, he will repeat the same feat at the federal level. After all, the best predictor of the future is the past.

“But let us examine the messenger, not just the message, and look at the issuer as well as the issues.

“Mr. Obi talks a good game. But was he able to reduce poverty while he governed Anambra? Perhaps we can let the facts speak for themselves.

“Under Peter Obi as a two term Anambra Governor, poverty in Anambra increased. It did not reduce.

“Before Peter Obi became Anambra Governor on Thursday, June 14, 2007, the poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4%.

“But after only two years in office, the poverty rate in Anambra jumped to 53.7%.

“But the interesting thing is that five years after Peter Obi left office, his successor, Willie Obiano, reduced the poverty rate in Anambra from almost 60% to 14.8%.

“As such, I am not sure that Mr. Obi is morally well placed to make the alarming claims he made about Nigeria at Johns Hopkins.

“Mr. Obi contributed to the increase in poverty in Nigeria. Governor Tinubu, as he then was, was responsible for lifting millions out of poverty.

“Being that that is the case, who should criticise who?”, Governor Sanwo Olu stated.

El-Rufai Says Defection To SDP Is To Run Away From Godfathers

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, has explained that his own move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was the first step in his attempt to address Nigeria’s challenges by moving away from the influence of godfathers in politics.

He downplayed the significance of recent high-profile defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that these moves will not deter his efforts to find solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

He disclosed this during a visit to Kano, where he met with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Social Democratic Party (SDP) leaders.

According to him, each governor has one vote and that elections are won by the people, not politicians.

“It’s good for headlines, it’s good to sell your media, but on the ground, politically, if you don’t have the people, you can have as high a profile as possible, you are nothing.

“The issue is who can solve the problem of Nigerians and communicate it to them such that on Election Day they will be motivated to come out and vote for that person.”

El-Rufai added that the SDP remained focused on grassroots mobilisation rather than courting political bigwigs.

“What we want to do is to give all Nigerians interested in leadership and politics equal opportunity to show that he can do better than what we have. Because clearly what we have is not good enough.

“The SDP is concerned with finding solutions to Nigeria’s problems and giving opportunity to those that the godfather-type of party politics has totally sidelined and excluded.

“Every Nigerian agrees that what we have now is not good enough and there are many talented Nigerians out there that don’t even want to think about going into politics or public service because they think you need to have a godfather, or you need to have tons of money.

“We want to remove all these things and unleash the competitive energy of Nigerians, to being their best to the politics and public service.

“This is our goal. As far as I am concerned, the defection of high-profile politicians is not the issue. The issue is who can solve the problem of Nigerians and communicate it to them such that on Election Day they will be motivated to come out and vote for that person.”

Patrick Okowa

By Ayodele Oni

Ifeanyi Okowa, Former Governor of Delta State and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Vice Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, has reaffirmed that his defection, with others to the ruling of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in the best interest of people of the State.

Okowa maintained that the move is not for personal gains, saying “there is always a time to change path for the common good of the people.”

Okowa spoke in Asaba on Monday at a rally organised by the APC to welcome him and Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of the state, to the party.

“Today, obviously, is a great day for us in Delta state. When the news broke out on Wednesday, the 23rd of April, 2025, that we have decided to change our path, people wondered why.

“But one thing is very important. In the history of a people, there is always a time to change their path for the common good of the people.”

He said the decision to join the APC was driven by the need to “connect with Abuja”, where Delta state is a “large contributor.

“And whatever decision that we took was based on that common good, and the need to change our path in the best interest of our state.

“As I did tell people that day, it was not about me. It was not about the governor, but the fact that there is the need for us to connect to Abuja.

“That goodwill that is in Abuja, that resource that is in Abuja, of which Delta state is a large contributor, there was a need to connect to it.”

Okowa pointed out that although he served as governor for eight years under the PDP, there was a need for a stronger connection with the centre.

“I was governor for eight years. I was in opposition. I did my best, but we lost a lot.

“And I did not believe that the governor needed to stay working very hard and we know that we are very supportive of Governor Sheriff.

“But as the governor is doing a lot for us, he also needs to connect to the greater source of power and resource and goodwill in Abuja.”

Okowa stated that the decision was made after consultation with PDP leaders and stakeholders at various levels.

“And when we sat down after a stakeholders meeting, we thought that it was necessary to make this move.

“This move is bold. It is strategic. It is patriotic and it is well-intentioned. That decision that our governor took, that we needed to move after consultation with the leaders of the party, which was cascaded down to the local governments and the world, is the best interest for our State.”

Okowa also called for support for President Bola Tinubu and Oborevwori, saying that the party’s move will help dominate politics in the State.

“It is time for us to stand together in great support for Mr President and Mr Governor. Because together, we can truly dominate the politics in Delta State.”

He expressed optimism that the decision would lead to positive results for the State.

“I believe there will be no other party with this move that we have made and we are going to stretch out our hands across to our brothers, across all other states, that we can reach. And I believe that a great result will come from it.

“Thank you, Mr Governor, for blazing the trail. You have put us forth, and I believe that it’s going to yield a lot of results.

“We trust you. We believe in you. We believe in the decision that we have collectively taken. May God lead you and keep you very close to Mr President. We will support you. We will support Mr President. And God will truly bless us in Delta state because it is well with us.

“We are a great state and a great people and now we have made the right decisions, a bold one, in the best interest of us all. Let us go back home and let the people know that we have taken this decision in their best interest.”

On April 23, Oborevwori and other PDP bigwigs in Delta state, defected to the APC.

On Sunday, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, announced that the APC structure in Delta is now fully under the governor’s control.

There was wild jubilation by families, friends and fans of late Gospel Musician, Osinachi Nwachukwu, when the Honourable Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme of an FCT High Court, Wuse Zone 2, on Monday sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the deceased Osinachi to death by hanging.

Peter, husband to the Late ‘Ekwueme’ crooner was found guilty of culpable homicide resulting in the death of the deceased ( his wife) on April 8, 2022.

The Judge held that the prosecution had proven the burden of proof placed on it by the law and subsequently found the defendant guilty.

Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022 by the Office of Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), on behalf of the Federal Government, on a 23-count charge.

The charge was on culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, criminal intimidation of children, spousal battery, among others.

In the course of trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two children of the late Osinachi, who testified as fourth prosecution and fifth prosecution witnesses, PW4 and PW5 respectively.

The prosecution also tendered 25 documents as exhibits before the court.

The defendant testified for the defence and further called four other witnesses and tendered four exhibits in his defence.

Shortly before sentencing, the defendant’s Counsel, Reginald Nwali, in his allocutus pleaded with the Court to be lenient in its judgment.

Similarly, the prosecution counsel, Mrs Aderonke Imala, urged the Court to give force to the law as stipulated.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme subsequently sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on Count 1, while he was sentenced to two years imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8,9, 12, 13, and 18.

We Defected To APC To ‘Grab’ National Cake, Says Gov Oborevwori

Sheriff Oborevwori and Patrick Okowa join APC

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has finally revealed why he decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

He spoke on Monday at an event in Asaba, the state capital to formally welcome him and other defectors into the ruling party.

The event was attended by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, APC Governors and other top echelon of the APC.

According to him, he defected from his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  ‘has shown us love.’

He said the president’s support for his people must be reciprocated, and that’s why he joined Tinubu in the ruling party, adding that he and other defectors are resolved to work for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Recall that Governor Oborevwori defected to the APC last week amidst mixed reactions from not a few Nigerians, some of who said the country is fast becoming a one party state.

Apart from the governor, his deputy, and the immediate past Governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa, the Chirman of the PDP in the state also abandoned the PDP for the party at the centre.

Oborevwori: “Mr President has supported us, he has shown us love. We cannot face him in 2027 to work against him. That love that he has shown us in Delta, we need to reciprocate it. We cannot do it in our old party. we have to be inside to do it and to do it well.

“This is a movement. This is not a defection. We have agreed we’ll move together, and when we move together, what is in national, we’re able to grab it.”

In the aftermath of Governor Oborevwori’s defection, suggestions in some quarters indicate that he and Okowa may have been forced to join the ruling party to provide soft landing for themselves.

Okowa, on whose crest the governor rode to officein 2023 has been accused of corruption to the tune of over N1.3 trillion.

Osun Gov, Adeleke, Exco Members Remain PDP Members, Shun Entreaties By Opposition

Ademola Adeleke - Osun State Governor
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

By Ayodele Oni

As wave of deflection continues to hit opposition political parties, Members of the Osun State Executive Council have maintained that none of them or Governor Ademola Adeleke will dump the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) on which they were elected into office.

They also expressed their solidarity and support to the Governor of Osun State and leader of the state PDP, Ademola Adeleke, vowing not to abandon him ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial poll.

The cabinet members including Commissioners and Special Advisers also declared their readiness to stand solidly “like a rock of Gibraltar” behind Governor Adeleke “in his undying quests to take Osun to greater heights.”

While also pledging their unalloyed loyalty to the ruling party in the state, the PDP, under the leadership of Sunday Bisi, the Osun Executive members denied plan to switch allegiance to another party.

They emphasised that “no amount of the usual political shenanigans by the opposition party members will be enough to derail the good intention of the Governor for the people as exemplified by Senator Adeleke.”

Reading the text of the press briefing on behalf of the Forum of Commissioners and Forum of SAs, Dosu Babatunde, Secretary of the Commissioners’ Forum asked the people of the state to disregard the insinuation that they are ditching the governor and the PDP for another political party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

“Your Excellency, Mr Governor, we are using this opportunity to further affirm and reaffirm our love and unshakable solidarity to you and your administration in Osun state.

“We read and heard with great consternation the many insinuations being mischievously bandied about in certain political quarters, particularly the opposition parties about the looming mass defection of the Executive Council members from the ruling PDP to another political party.

“This is not only a political fallacy taken to the extreme but a careless and unguarded

insinuation by the usual disgruntled members of the opposition party in the state.

“To this end, we are using this opportunity to state and reaffirm, again and again, that no amount of political gerrymandering as being currently hatched by the opposition party members in the state will make us be a party to destroying a house (PDP) which we fought tooth and nail to build.

“Come 2026, the entire people of Osun state will reenact the feat of getting Your Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke returned as Governor of our dear state.”

Fielding questions from journalists, Babatunde also debunked speculation that Governor Adeleke is planning to defect to APC.

“That is a rumour from the pit of hell. The governor (Ademola Adeleke) is a PDP governor and he is doing very well. He is not moving to any political party.

“He will not move. We are members of the executive council and we are close to him. He is going to continue his developmental strides in PDP,” Babatunde declared.

Court Orders Socialite, Aisha Achimugu To Submit Self To EFCC

Aisha Achimugu

Justice I.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered Abuja Aisha Achimugu to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, to answer questions for alleged money laundry and criminal conspiracy.

The judge also directed Achumugu to  appear before the court on Wednesday, April 30,  2025.

The order was made in a ruling delivered on Monday, April 28, 2025, in respect of a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/626/2025, filed by Achimugu against several law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, the Department of State Services, DSS, the EFCC, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ,NSCDC, and the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

Recall that the EFCC had on March 28, 2025  in a circular declared the popular socialite wanted, after she failed to make herself available to the agency, having earlier reported to the agency office on February 12,  where she made a statement. Since then she had failed to honor the EFCC invitation.

She would later filed a fundamental right enforcement suit against the EFCC and law enforcement agencies to stop her arrest.

The Legal Battle

In its response to Achimugu’s application for the court to enforce her fundamental right,  EFCC’s Counsel,  Ekele Iheanacho,  SAN, informed the court of a counter-affidavit deposed to by one of its investigators, Chris Odofin, outlining  the circumstances leading to her invitation.  In the affidavit, Odofin disclosed that Achimugu is under investigation for alleged conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, money laundering, corruption  and possession of property reasonably suspected to have been acquired through unlawful means.

Achimugu had initially honoured the Commission’s  invitation on February 12, 2024, during which she made a written statement and was subsequently granted administrative bail  through her lawyer and surety, Darlington N. Ozurumba.

However, she allegedly failed to report back as agreed, choosing instead to file a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Commission. The affidavit further revealed that Achimugu,  in her statement, explained the inflow of N8.71 billion into her corporate bank accounts as  an ” investment fund” for the acquisition of an oil block. She claimed the funds were transferred to the Federal Government’s account through her company, Oceangate Engineering Oil and Gas Limited, referencing documentation from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.

Further investigation in the affidavit however, indicated that Achimugu’s company actually acquired two oil blocks, Shallow Water PPL 3007 and Deep Offshore PPL 302-DO at the cost of  $25.3 million. Investigations showed that the payments were allegedly made in cash via bureau de change operators and that the ultimate sources of the funds could not be traced to any legitimate business income or partnerships.

The Commission also alleged that the acquisition process was fraught with corruption.  Despite the acquisition,  neither of the two oil blocks had commenced exploration or production as of the time of investigation.  The EFCC stressed that  Achimugu’s current suit is a calculated attempt to frustrate the ongoing investigation, despite a previous court decision in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/451/2024 dismissing her claim of fundamental rights violations.

Following the dismissal of the earlier suit, the EFCC continued its investigation by dispatching inquiry letters to various banks and the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, the Federal Inland Revenue Services, Land Authorities, Special Control Unit against Money Laundering,  Central Bank of Nigeria to gather more evidence. As more responses were received,  the team analysed them while further  responses are being awaited.

The affidavit also shows the applicant operates a total of one hundred and thirty-six (136) bank accounts across ten different banks both in her personal and corporate names.

The case continues on Wednesday,  April 30, 2025 with Achimugu expected to report to the EFCC on Tuesday as directed by the court.

Sanwo-olu To Peter Obi: You Are Unpatriotic, Lacks Moral Rights To Criticize Tinubu

0
Peter Obi

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has slammed the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter for de-marketing Nigeria. The Lagos governor who cited Obi’s time as governor of Anambra state said he has no moral rights to criticised the federal government.

Obi, a member of the Labour Party has recently criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government which he blamed for the povertyin the country.

The former Anambra helmsman had last week claimed that the ruling APC led federal government has mismanaged the country’s economy so much so that poor people in Nigeria is now more than the combined figure in China, Indonesia and Vietnam.

According to him, the three countries once categorised alonside Nigeria in the area of Human Development index, HDI, have changed their story while Nigeria’s situation has gone from bad to worse.

The former presidential candidate spoke at the John Hopkins University in the United State, recently his remark is vied in government quarters to be very antagonistic, as some administration’s officials have taken time to rebuff him.

“In the area of poverty, Nigeria with about 50 million poor people, had the least number of people in poverty in 1990 than any of the three countries. While China had about 750 million people living in poverty, Indonesia and Vietnam had 85 million and 60 million poor people, respectively. China alone had about 15 times the number of poor people than Nigeria. Today, however, Nigeria has more poor people than these 3 countries combined,” Obi said.

Reacting, Governor Sanwo-olu said the former Anambra state governor, as governor, did not leave any legacy in the area of education and health, wondering why he has the audacity to criticised the federal government, noting that the current administration has performed well in these areas, citing the tertiary institution loan to studenst and dozens of school build by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Lagos governor.

President Tinubu and Sanwo-olu are in the same APC, the ruling party at the centre.

The Lagos helmsman also accused Obi of being unpatriotic, saying he should be marketing the country abroad, to attract investment into the country instead of speaking ill of her, adding that “we all owe a duty to market Nigeria on the global stage rather than demarketing her. That is what true patriotism is about,”

He urged Obi to stop making “alarming claims” about the country, blaming the former governor for contributing to the “poverty’ in the country.

Sanwo-Olu titled his reaction,  “Factually Addressing Mr. Peter Obi’s Criticism of Nigeria at Johns Hopkins University. ”

Obi “made unflattering remarks not just about the incumbent Nigerian government but also about Nigeria. I also find Mr Obi’s pattern of behaviour disturbing. When prominent Nigerians go overseas, they ought to project Nigeria positively,’ Sanwo-olu said.

“They do not have to do that for the government. But we all owe a duty to market Nigeria on the global stage rather than demarket her. That is what true patriotism is about.”

Adding that, “I find it somewhat ironic that a man like Mr Obi, who did not build a single school or a stand-alone hospital throughout his eight-year tenure as governor of Anambra or sustainably provide credit facilities, would criticise the government of Nigeria, which is actively doing that.

“I say this because the president of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is my predecessor, and as governor of Lagos and now President of Nigeria, has built over 200 schools and provided student loans to more than 200,000 undergraduates of Nigerian tertiary institutions.

“In less than two years, he has provided over half a billion dollars in credit facilities to small and medium-scale enterprises.”

“Under Peter Obi, a two-term Anambra Governor, poverty in Anambra increased. It did not reduce. Before Peter Obi became Anambra Governor on Thursday, June 14, 2007, the poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4 per cent.

“But after only two years in office, the poverty rate in Anambra jumped to 53.7 per cent. But the interesting thing is that five years after Peter Obi left office, his successor, Willie Obiano, reduced the poverty rate in Anambra from almost 60 per cent to 14.8 per cent.

“As such, I am not sure that Mr. Obi is morally well placed to make the alarming claims he made about Nigeria at Johns Hopkins. Mr Obi contributed to the increase in poverty in Nigeria,” the Lagos governor said.

The magazine reported that the International Monetary Fund, IMF, had in its latest report asserted that the poverty level in the country will continue to get worse up to 2027 when the Tinubu administration is expected to wind down its first term in office. The president, according to him, will seek a re-election.
