Nigeria Murders Another Professor: The Shameful Death of Prof. Roko

1
Prof Abubakar Roko

By  Muhammad Lawal Ibrahim, PhD. CLN

Another brilliant mind has died. Another Nigerian Professor,  Prof. Roko has just been murdered by the state. Not by bullets, not by bandits, but by an unforgiving system, deliberate neglect, and a government that treats its academics like disposable rags. He needed ₦13 million for medical treatment abroad. After over 20 years of service to this so-called nation, he couldn’t raise it. He was bedridden, helpless, abandoned and now, he is dead.

We must stop calling this “natural death.” This was murder by government negligence.

In a country that throws billions at political cronies, gives lawmakers millions in wardrobe allowances, funds endless pilgrimages and jamborees, a professor had to be paraded online like a beggar, with students scrambling to raise funds just so their teacher might live. And even that wasn’t enough. The system choked him to death slowly just like it’s doing to thousands of others right now.

Where Are the Salaries?

As of this writing, tertiary institution workers are celebrating Sallah without salaries. Go and verify. Civil servants in other sectors have been paid weeks ago. But those who teach your children, those who write your policies, those who keep the soul of the country alive—are being starved like prisoners of war. And when it was reported that over 1,000 lecturers have died under this current administration, bootlickers and sycophants ask, “What killed them?” What killed them? What didn’t?

Sickness, hunger, depression, suicide, systemic poverty, lack of medical care all wrapped in the evil legacy of Buhari’s betrayal and now Tinubu’s reign of economic terrorism killed them and still counting.

Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” is Academic Genocide

Let’s not sugarcoat it. What’s happening in Nigeria’s higher education system today is academic genocide. The federal government has effectively declared war on the ivory tower. Salaries are frozen. Promotions are denied. Research is dead. Morale is nonexistent. Students are turning to fraud and crime. Lecturers are dying in silence, many too ashamed to beg for help. But yes, the president has just approved ₦90 billion for Hajj. Where is the justice in this madness?

A Rotten Elite and a Silent Society

The ruling class in Nigeria treats lecturers like slaves while flying abroad for their own checkups, educating their children overseas, and stealing public funds to build mansions in Dubai. Meanwhile, professors die waiting for ₦13 million. We are ruled by demons in agbadas, celebrated by cowards, and enabled by silence.

What’s worse is that many Nigerians have been so brutalized, they now laugh off their own destruction. “Lecturers are always complaining.” Yes, because they are being slowly buried alive.

We Will Not Forgive

To those in power your days of immunity from truth are over. You will be remembered not as leaders, but as executioners. We will not forgive you for the lives you’ve ruined. Not in death. Not in history. Not in the court of God.

You have destroyed one of the few remaining sectors that held any credibility in this country. And for what? Your greed? Your power games? Your bottomless stomachs?

Prof. Roko is dead and I pray for Allah to accept his good innocent soul into the highest level in paradise amin. But this article is not about him alone. It is about every Nigerian academic suffering right now in silence. It is about every student being denied a future. It is about a nation killing its own brain and expecting to survive.

Enough is enough. Let this death be a curse on the conscience of every politician who has contributed to this decay.

Let this be a rallying cry for every Nigerian who still has a soul left.

“Plans Afoot To  Impeach You In 2026”, Prophet Ayodele Tells Sanwo-Olu

0
Prophet Ayodele and Babajide Sanwo-olu

By Gideon Njoku

“Prayers will not save you from being Impeached if you fail to retrace your steps”

There are plans to impeach the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in 2026. This came from the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele.

Ayodele said only one person can stop Sanwo-Olu’s impeachment. That person is Sanwo-Olu himself, but only if he retraces his steps.

The warning by Ayodele, who has seen more vision than all the prophets and seers in Nigeria combined, comes on the heels of the strongly speculated rift between President Bola Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

No thanks to the rift, the President who has been in Lagos for well over a week to commission a couple of projects and celebrate Sallah, has been snubbing Sanwo-Olu even in public. He skipped shaking his hands like he did with others on the day he commissioned 30km out of the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway; Ogun State  Governor,  Dapo Abiodun spoke at the function in Lagos instead of Sanwo-Olu, the host Governor, and more.

It is strongly rumoured that the rift is a product of the failed impeachment of Lagos State Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, a Tinubu loyalist. Tinubu felt Sanwo-Olu was behind it and felt betrayed that the Governor did not refer to him. Since then the relationship between the two has gone cold.

Now, Primate Ayodele is pretty sure the situation could cost Sanwo-Olu his Governorship seat. To stem it, Ayodele, in a statement signed on his behalf by his Media Aide, Osho Oluwatosin, advised the Governor to swallow his pride and go,beg Tinubu, and make up with him.

In the statement, Ayodele recalled that he had predicted the rift between the two in 2023 but was ignored.

The statement reads in part:

“I had said Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu will fight. Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu’s fight hasn’t started; if he(Sanwo-Olu) isn’t careful, he will be removed. I want to beg Tinubu not to allow them to remove him.

“I’m calling on Sanwo-Olu to reconcile to avoid being disgracefully removed. It’s unfortunate that there are no elderly people in politics; they are all after what they would eat, and they don’t arrange things. If there is no money, they don’t do anything.

“Sanwo-Olu needs to calm down, find a solution between you and your boss. It is not well; once you leave there, you would realize people don’t respect you, they are only with you because you are still there.

“I want to urge you to ignore anyone advising you to be strong-hearted. If you are not careful, they will remove you in 2026. Prayers will not be able to save you then if you don’t retrace your steps.”

Tinubu has “Pocketed” NASS, Judiciary, Dictatorship Looms- Ozekhome Warns

Mike Ozekhome

Constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mike Ozekhome has warned that Nigeria is gradually becoming a one party state. He warned that the development is capable of leading dictatorship.

The lawyer spoke on Channels Television Program “Hard Copy” on Saturday, warning of the dangers of a one party state and consequences of dictatorship.

According to him, the executive has subsumed the other two arms of government, the National Assembly and Judiciary, a situation he said does not portend well for the country.

The human rights lawyer spoke amidst the huge criticism that has greeted the recent defections of some opposition leaders into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Political analyst watching what is going on in the country insist that there’s is a targeted plan by the ruling party to ‘swallow up” opposition political parties in the country ahead the 2027 election.

No fewer than two state governors from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have dumped their party to join the APC in the last few weeks. The latest is the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Umo Eno who defected to the APC on Friday alongside some of his aides and Commissioners.

Some Senators and House of Representatives members have also dumped their parties to join the APC in the last few weeks.

Ozekhome explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be the only presidential candidate in the 2027 election, as there will be nobody to run against him, saying Nigerians should resist the plan to turn the country into a single party state.

He however lamented that the government has weaponized  poverty in the country, making Nigerians poor so much so that it will be difficult for them to resist.

Ozekhome said, “In a one-party state, dictatorship reigns supreme.

“Everybody will agree. National Assembly pocketed, judiciary will be pocketed, and everybody will be saying ‘yes, yes, yes.’”

The magazine reported that Governor Eno dumped the PDP barely a month after  Sheriff Obovrewori of Delta state surprisingly abandoned the party alongside his aides and other PDP party officials in the state.

“Your Defection To APC Historic” – Akpabio Tells Gov. Eno As Three Quit State Cabinet

Godswill Akpabio and Gov Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State

By Adesina Soyooye

Hours after he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Party under which umbrella he was elected Governor, for the All Progressives Congress, APC,  Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has visited Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Eno paid the visit to Akpabio at the Senate President’s private residence, Uyo, capital of the State, accompanied by eight APC Governors, led by their Chairman, Imo State  Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

An excited Akpabio who received his, also, excited guests in company of his wife, Uloma, took to his Facebook page to celebrate Governor Eno’s defection to the APC.

He wrote: “It is with utmost joy that I received our Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, his Deputy, Akon Eyekenyi, All Progressives Congress Governors led by the Chairman of the Forum, Hope Uzodinma and other stakeholders of our party to my residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after the historic defection of my brother, Governor Eno, members of the State Executive Council,  Federal and State Lawmakers, as well as Council Chairmen into the Progressives’ Family.

“Thank you Mr Governor for having the interest of our people at heart.

“Congratulations and welcome to the fold.”

However, hours after Eno’s defection, and given his earlier ultimatum to his Cabinet members who wouldn’t follow him to APC to quit, three of them, including his  Commissioners for Finance and that of Information, Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port, resigned indicating there was no unanimous agreement to move into the APC. There are also strong speculations that quite a number of House of Assembly Members are not singing same song as Eno. They are said to be loyal to the immediate past Governor of the State, Udom Emmanuel who was instrumental to Eno’s emergence as Governor and who now feels betrayed by him.

In his letter of resignation, one of the  Commissioners, Ini Ememobong wrote:

“Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign.

“While I cannot question or fault the Governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in  politics with principles and my long standing opposition to that political platform, which is daily validated by numerous Nigerians across many sectors. This decision does not affect my personal relationship with the Governor, who calls me his brother and reposed great confidence in me by saddling me with two very important ministries(Information and Special Duties & Ibom Deep Sea Port).

“I have and will continue to have tremendous respect for HE Governor Umo Eno, even out of EXCO.

“About my history in political and public service, I look back with great satisfaction at the work I have done and leave the ultimate judgement to history and posterity. Given another opportunity, I will do more.

“Let me convey the very sincere appreciation of my family to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno for appointing me into his cabinet. Our very special appreciation goes to Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State for his enduring love and belief in me, especially for appointing me into the Executive Council during his administration.

“I understand this decision may not please everyone, and to those who are disappointed, I humbly seek your understanding.

As usual, I do not know the future, but I know HE who holds the future and I trust that at the end, all things work together for good, to those who love the Lord and are the called unto HIS purpose.”

Not a few people have hailed him, since this letter, as a true honourable man.

Eno is the second PDP Governor who has decamped to the APC in less than two months. The first was Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Akpabio, himself, was a two-term Governor of Akwa Ibom under the PDP. He became a Senator later, and was the Senate Minority Leader when he suddenly dumped the Party for the APC. He had a very sour relationship with Emmanuel who he installed as Governor. He must, now, be having a good laugh at Emmanuel for out-witting him with Eno’s defection to the APC, midway into the Governor’s first term in office.

A 74th minute strike from Tolu Arokodare was all the Coach Eric Chelle-led Super Eagles needed to salvage a 1-1 draw against Russia in the much anticipated International Friendly Match.

The equalizer from Arokodare silenced the vociferous Russia fans at the 75,000 Luzhinski Stadium in Moscow, giving the Super Eagles fans a voice.

Despite the fact that a number of Super Eagles players pulled out of the Friendly due to the Islamic Eid El Kabir celebration, personal and family issues, the Super Eagles gave a good account of themselves, having gone a goal down courtesy of an own goal by Oluwasemilogo Ajayi in the 26th minute.

The Russians had started the match like a house on fire, mounting pressure on Nigerian side, who were able to curtail the attacking prowess of their host by absorbing the pressure and gradually getting into the match.

Chelle started the Match with Maduka Okoye in goal, while the pair of Captain, William Troost Ekong, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi played at the centre of the defense, with Bright Osayi-Samuel and Bruno Onyemaechi playing in the left and right wing of the defense.

Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Christantus Uche and Moses Simon in the Midfield, while Victor Boniface led the attack.

The best chance of the Super Eagles came late in the first half when Dele-Bashiru saw his right strike saved by Russian, Goaltender, Vladimir Safanov.

Russia grew into the game as they led the game into the second half before substitute, Arokodare scored the much deserved equalizer.

The Super Eagles are now gearing up for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Warriors of Zimbabwe in July 2025.

Obi Decries Five-Year Salary Arrears for UNIZIK Staff, Urges Federal Government to Act

Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the plight of a group of teaching and non-teaching staff at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, who have reportedly gone without salaries for five years.

Obi made the call after meeting with the affected staff, who narrated their “shocking and heartbreaking” ordeal. The workers, employed between 2019 and 2020, revealed that despite their valid appointments, they have been excluded from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), rendering them ineligible to receive their lawful earnings.

According to Obi, the situation is not merely a case of delayed salaries but one of total exclusion from the federal payroll system. “They have written petitions and appealed to various bodies, both within and outside Nigeria, yet the situation remains unchanged,” he said.

The consequences of the prolonged salary denial have been dire. The former governor recounted harrowing stories shared by the staff, including evictions from homes, family breakdowns, untreated medical conditions, and in some tragic instances, the death of colleagues who could not afford basic healthcare.

Obi condemned the situation as a reflection of systemic neglect, noting that while the nation continues to decry the poor state of its education sector, the basic obligation of paying educational workers is being ignored. “This is not just a labour issue; it is a moral and humanitarian one,” he asserted.

He urged the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action by enrolling the affected staff onto the IPPIS platform without further delay and ensuring that all outstanding arrears are promptly paid.

“A nation that neglects its educators and university staff undermines its own future,” Obi warned. “Their dignity, like that of every Nigerian worker, must be protected.”

The situation at Nnamdi Azikiwe University adds to growing concerns over the welfare of academic and non-academic staff across Nigeria’s public universities, many of whom have faced salary delays, inadequate funding, and poor working conditions.

Gov Hope Uzodimma nad Gov Eno

Governor Uzodimma spoke at the Akwa Ibom Government House on Friday where he was joined by eight other APC Governors to receive Governor Eno into the APC at an enlarged stakeholders meeting.

“You will not regret this decision to join the Progressives. We are willing, able and capable. We are happy to receive you. It is a home coming for you. We will support you. The President, the leader of our Party will support you. The National Assembly under the leadership of your  brother, the Senate President Goodwill Akpabio will support you. We will support Akwa Ibom State,” Governor Uzodimma said.

Governor Uzodimma said that President Tinubu’s reforms have started yielded the desired results and explained that like minds are needed to join him to turn things around completely in the country.

He said Governor Eno has proven to be one of like minds as the Progressives Governors.

Governor Uzodimma explained that Akwa Ibom will never be the same again following the decision of the Governor and the leaders of the State to link up to the national political grid, noting that “rather than interpret what happened as defection, I see it as a movement, a progressive decision.”

He commended the Governor for consulting both widely and wisely with the critical Akwa Ibom State stakeholders, explaining that the quality of persons who attended the defection meeting said it all.

Also, Governor Uzodimma saluted Governor Eno’s performance so far in Akwa Ibom State, explaining that he owed it to the Governor’s organisational mind.

Earlier in his speech, Governor Eno said that he sees his new Party as a vehicle to continue to provide services to the people of Akwa Ibom State and to unite them the more.

He noted that he believes in a united Akwa Ibom State and that whatever platform he finds himself in will be used to advance that course.

Governor Eno lauded the transformation reforms of President Tinubu, and insisted that “for the sake of Tinubu for 2027,” he is glad to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President to deepen the economic and social reforms in the country, and in the interest of Akwa Ibom State.

He reiterated his earlier call on his aides to join him to his new political platform, saying, ” I demand from my first eleven total loyalty and I would want them to join me. I demand complete loyalty.”

Governor Eno thanked Mr, President, the Governors, the Akwa Ibom State leaders, the leaders of all the Parties in the State and everyone who showed solidarity to his new thinking, saying others who are thinking differently now will see reason shortly.

The highpoint of the event was the formal defection of all the Governor’s members of the State Executive Council, the Chairmen of all the Local Government Areas in the State, members of the State House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly from Akwa Ibom.

Governor Uzodimma and his colleagues thereafter handed over to Governor Eno the symbolic APC broom just as the Governor replaced his cap with that of Renewed Hope.

Other Progressives Governors who attended the event include: Governors Babajide Sanwolu (Lagos), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji (Ekiti), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) and Bassey Otu (Cross River).

The Senate President was represented by his wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio while the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was also in attendance.

The Chairmen of the APC from adjoining States, key leaders like former Administrator of the State, Group Capt Sam Ewan, former Deputy Governor Nsima Ekere, Sen Effiong Bob, former Minister of Petroleum, Chief Don Etiebet, and too others too numerous to mention.

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

A daylight inferno has razed no fewer than  250 shops and business premises with goods and properties worth millions of Naira destroyed at the popular and ever busy Kano GSM market at the Farm Centre area of the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria.

The fire incident which some eye witness account said occurred at about 2.00 pm on Friday, June 6, reportedly began from the Dan Sileka building inside the market, causing significant damage, and huge losses to over 1000 persons.

According to one insider- source, although between 250 and 300 shops mostly those containing mobile phones and accessories are believed to be involved, there are however over a thousand affected operators.

According him, each of the  shops at the large GSM market ,close to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, office,

Kano State Council, are being occupied by, in some  cases,  over three persons.
