Imo Government Accuses Amadi Of Inciting Citizens Against Uzodimma

0
Sam Amadi and Declan Emelumba

The Imo State Government has accused a governorship aspirant in the state of inciting the populace against Governor Hope Uzodimma and his administration. It stated that ever since Sam Amadi conceived the idea of contesting for the governorship, he has been engaging in seditious acts against the government under the guise of campaigns.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, described Amadi’s actions as a “sustained clannish campaign of calumny” against Uzodimma and the administration. He cited Amadi’s recent tirade where he “practically insulted the government for discharging one of its constitutional duties of allocating land for development purposes.”

“Unfortunately, he exposed himself as a man who is out of touch with the realities in the state,” the statement read, adding, “obviously, he has never accessed the Imo master plan to know which areas of the state are designated for what purpose, neither has he taken time to study the Land Use Act to know the powers of a governor, nor what constitutes public interest.”

Emelumba stated that Amadi, who hails from Ngor Okpala Local Government, has gone on to incite the people to challenge the government for allocating the said land, whereas “all due process was followed in the allocation.”

“Instead of telling the people the truth, he has gone ahead to brainwash them and turn it into a clannish matter by saying that an Orlu man wants to dispossess them of their land,” he declared.

“For the purpose of clarity, the government allocated the land to a corporate organisation after due scrutiny of the purpose, which is development and which aligns with public interest. From independence to date, governments have been allocating land to churches, so why is this an issue? Trying to turn it into a clannish squabble shows his lack of knowledge of the workings of government.”

Emelumba further clarified that apart from the church to be built, the organisation is also setting up schools and other facilities, which will generate employment for Imo people and revenue for the government. He described Amadi as being “shallow and mischievous” in his presentation to the people of Ngor Okpala concerning the allocation of the land.

He noted that for a man who seeks to contest the highest office in the state, “he needed to be more circumspect and guarded in his utterances so as not to create a clannish war in the state.”

The Commissioner regretted that since Amadi declared his governorship ambition, he has been “incoherent on his intended policies and programmes if elected.” He remarked, “Apart from criticising the government, he has not marshalled out any coherent policy proposals. What he has said so far is shallow. Maybe that is why he has not gone past mere declaration since he started running for office.”

Emelumba, however, advised the people of Ngor Okpala not to be drawn into “fighting a proxy war,” as Amadi’s intention is to “set them up against the rest of the people of the state.”

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB on Friday June 27, 2025, expressed deep concern over the lukewarm attitude of candidates towards printing their slips for its upcoming Mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The Source reports that the Board has been battling to remedy a severe operational disruption recorded during the 2025 UTME,  CBT, text held across the country.

A technical glitch as acknowledged by JAMB’s Executive Secretary, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, had affected the results of no fewer than 380,000 candidates drawn mostly from the South East region and Lagos state.

However, the Board has taken some measures aimed  at ensuring that those affected retake the examination with the first supplementary examination already held some weeks back.

However, in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB lamented that only 12,442  out of  98 ,232 candidates  scheduled to participate in an up-coming Mop-up UTME test have so far printed their slips online.

“As of this morning ( Friday ) only 12, 442 ,out of the 98,232 scheduled candidates have printed their slips ,reflecting a mere 12.6% participation rate .

“We strongly encourage all candidates, particularly those who missed the main examination, to print their notification slips promptly.

“This is a rare opportunity for them to participate in this year’s examination”, Benjamin stated.

He noted that the Board is religiously monitoring the slips printing process.so as to know the number of candidates that will be participating in the examination.

This is just as it informed that adequate human and material resources have been deployed to ensure a hitch free exercise .

The Ekiti State Government has revealed that despite the enactment of anti- grazing law in the state, its implementation has not been possible.

Government blamed this on inability on neighbouring states to either enact such law or refuse to implement it.

Special Adviser to the Governor on security matters, Ebenezer Ogundana disclosed this when he represented the Governor at a training  programme on prevention and resolution of incidence of farmers-herders conflict in Ado Ekiti.

The training was in partnership with the World Bank and the Global Peace Development which rallied stakeholders to seek enduring peace between the farmers, herders and the host communities.

Speaking at the event, Ekiti State Governor, Oyebanji, said that efforts have been made to resolve the crises between the herders and farmers and the host communities, adding that some external factors are working against the peace efforts.

Oyebanji said “that is why we have brought together herders, farmers, and other stakeholders to dialogue and come up with ideas that will give enduring peace. It will help the government to make necessary policies.”

He noted that though there is anti grazing laws in Ekiti State, but its implementation has been difficult for the state because “we have challenges with neighbouring states.

“With this event, we know how to work around the anti grazing laws and make it functional to ensure that farmers and herders can live together in peace.”

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Director, Global Peace Development and Team Leader for the programme, Ebruke Onajite Esike, said the purpose of the training is to promote culture of peace.

According to him the programme is, “To transform the conflicts to peaceful resolution in the state, as well as to employ all warning tips to promote culture of tolerance so that businesses can improve and there will be food security.

“This is the second state, the Global peace have done it for Edo State. We are also learning how people cope with the incidences of herder-farmer clashes and how best we can ensure a peaceful environment as Nigerians.

President All Farmers Association of Nigeria(AFAN), Ekiti State Chapter, Mr Alagbada Ademola, said that herders -farmers conflicts have created challenges to food security because farmers can’t go to farm anymore.

“It has caused devastating effects and reduced outputs. We thank the organisers for involving critical stakeholders to come and discuss the way forward.

“The factors that has led to the loss of lives is a national issue. We have to be frank and sincere ourselves no matter whose ox is gored.”

In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade said the farmer-herder conflict is a complex challenge that requires a multifaceted approach.

“It is not just about clashes between two groups; it is about understanding the underlying issues, which include competition for resources due to global warming. cultural differences, and environmental degradation.

Citing health challenges,  Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from his position, with immediate effect.

Mr Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, cited health reasons for his decision, stating that he needed to focus on his well-being.

Ganduje’s tenure as APC Chairman has been marked by controversy and challenges. He was elected as the APC National Chairman in August 2023, amidst internal party conflicts.

Prior to his election, Mr Ganduje served as the Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.

While Ganduje’s resignation letter attributed his decision to health concerns, sources familiar with the matter suggested that political tension within the party might have also played a role in his decision to step down.

Premium Times, reports that allegations of financial impropriety have also been linked to his resignation, with some party members reportedly protesting “excessive financial demands” imposed by his office.

Specifically, aspiring FCT area council candidates had complained about hefty fee requirements for receiving the party’s ticket.

Ganduje’s resignation has marked a significant shift in the APC’s leadership, and stakeholders are eagerly awaiting further clarifications on the circumstances surrounding his departure.

The APC is yet to issue an official statement on his resignation, leaving many to speculate about the implications of this development for the party.

Ekiti: Gov Oyebanji ‘s Administration In Focus As CNPP, PRP Disagree Over Governance

Biodun Oyebanji - Ekiti State Governor

By Ayodele Oni

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP), in Ekiti State has disowned a group known as Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, (CNPP) being led by Victor Akinola, over its endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for second term.

The CNPP had at a press conference on Thursday in Ado Ekiti claimed that the impact of governance of the Oyebanji Administration is being felt through the implementation of the six-pillar agenda which include Governance, Youth Development and Job Creation, Human Capital Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, Infrastructure and Industrialization and Arts, Culture and Tourism.

It maintained that the allegation that roads are in ruins, schools are collapsing and hospitals are without beds or medicine are false and far from the truth.

“Governor Oyebanji has carried out comprehensive rehabilitation, construction and reconstruction of roads in all parts of the state in the state which were commissioned during the first and second anniversaries of his administration.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima commissioned some of the roads in June, 2024 while former Governors Niyi Adebayo, Ayo Fayose Segun Oni, Kayode Fayemi and other eminent personalities commissioned roads and other projects during the anniversaries.”

But PRP clarified on Friday that “There is no political party in Ekiti State operating under (CNPP) the signee, co-signee are both All Progressives Congress (APC) members.”

PRP in a statement signed by the PRO, Dele Famiyiwa said that the governor’s administration has failed to address pressing issues like poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure decay.

“The Ado-Aramoko road may be a federal highway, but the state government’s inability to collaborate effectively with federal authorities has hindered progress. The reconstruction of alternative roads is a stopgap measure that doesn’t address the core issues.

“The investment in health and education sectors is insufficient, and the claims of regular drug supply and new projects are unsubstantiated. The videos of dilapidated schools and health centers shown are likely representative of the ground reality.

“The recruitment exercises and empowerment programmes are mere tokenism and don’t address the systemic issues driving unemployment and poverty. The claims of thousands of youths being employed are likely exaggerated and lack transparency.

“Governor Oyebanji’s administration lacks transparency in governance, and the claims of probity and accountability are unconvincing. The CNPP’s praise for the governor’s trips to the federal capital is misplaced, as these trips may be more about political posturing than actual development.”

N80b Fraud: Yahaya Bello’s Security Aides Threatening Me – Witness

Yahaya Bello and EFCC Officials

A Prosecution Witness, PW, in the ongoing N80 billion trial of a former Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello has informed the federal high court sitting in Abuja, the nation’s capital that he has been subjected to intimidation by security of the former governor.

Former governor Bello is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged fraud.

During the resumed hearing of the trial on Thursday, Kemi Pinheiro, a senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN and Prosecution counsel to the EFCC told Justice Emeka Nwite that  Mashelia Aryan Mashelia Dada, who is one of the prosecution witnesses in the case has been subjected to harassment by some aides of the former governor. The witness is a compliance officer with Zenith Bank Plc.

Pinheiro described the act as a “serious interference with the criminal justice process,” urging the judge to intervene.

Bello’s counsel, JB Daudu, a senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN promised to investigate the allegation.

“This is not the first witness to testify, and none have been harassed. However, I will look into it and get back to the court on the next adjourned date. I will also speak to the witness so he can identify who harassed him,” Daudu said.

Meanwhile, the witness gave a detailed account of massive cash withdrawals allegedly carried out between 2016 and 2023, while Bello was governor, through  multiple bank instruments and channels.

Led in evidence by prosecuting counsel, Pinheiro, SAN, Dada said the records he presented were among seven sets of documents submitted in compliance with a subpoena addressed to the bank’s Managing Director. The subpoena was admitted as Exhibit 20, while related documents covering account holders and corporate entities were admitted as Exhibits 21 through 24C.

Among the accounts examined were those belonging to Adamu Jagafa Ishaya, Whales Oil and Gas, Jimeda Properties Nigeria Limited, Alyeshua Solutions, and notably, the Kogi State Government House’s  Administration Account.

Focusing on the Kogi State Government House’s  Administration Account, Pinheiro highlighted a pattern of cash withdrawals that blatantly violated the Central Bank of Nigeria’s, CBN, cashless policy. According to Dada, the CBN had placed cash withdrawal limits at ₦500,000 for individuals and ₦5,000,000 for corporate or government entities during the relevant period. Exceeding these limits attracted surcharges.

Dada testified that between January 30 and February 1, 2018, a total of ₦697,267,000 was withdrawn in ₦10 million tranches through cheques issued in the name of one Abdulsalami Hudu. Then,  on February 2, 2018, an additional ₦99,573,000 was withdrawn in similar tranches and several other withdrawals totalling N1.09bn within three days

The prosecution also revealed that on February 1, 2018, a transfer of ₦3,325,000 was made from the same Kogi Government account to one Ali Bello.

Dada further disclosed that this pattern of suspicious transactions continued in subsequent years. On May 6, May 11, and May 19, 2022, the same account received ₦100 million on each date from the Kogi State Statutory Revenue Account. These inflows were immediately followed by multiple cash withdrawals in ₦10 million tranches, primarily by Abdulsalami Hudu and another named beneficiary, Alhassan Omakoji.

Iran-Israel War: No Nigerian Died Or Injured – Dabiri-Erewa

The federal government says there’s no Nigerian citizen was injured or killed during the just concluded Israel-Iran war. The 12-day war, the magazine reported, led to many lives lost on both sides of the conflict.

The devastation has left many countries, including Nigeria worried about the safety of their nationals resident in Iran. Some reports had suggested that some Nigerian citizens in the country suffered injuries.

Reacting, the Chairman of the Nigerian in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM and the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, said there were no reported cases of  injuries or fatalities involving Nigerians living the country.

According NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa in a statement released on Friday, the federal government is committed to ensuring that Nigerians living in Iran and any part of the world are safe and their welfare taken care of.

The statement was signed by Gabriel Odu of the Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM.

Dabiri-Erewa said the federal government has provided a support system to ensure that Nigerian citizens were taken care of, and those who want to leave the country allowed to do so through an arrangement with Tehran and the Armenia government.

She said, “We remain committed to the safety and well-being of all Nigerians in the diaspora,”

“The situation in Iran underscores the need for proactive engagement and a strong support system,”

She commended the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran for its swift response to the situation and called on Nigerians abroad to register with their respective embassies to enhance communication and ensure timely assistance when necessary.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar had earlier debunked reports that Nigerian citizens domiciled in Iran had been abandoned to their fate with no help coming from home, he noted that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran had been operational to ensure the “welfare and safety of all Nigerian nationals in Iran.”

“The ministry remains vigilant in monitoring the situation and will continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard the interests of Nigerians worldwide,” the minister said.

The war has since seized after the ceasefire announced by the United State of America President Donald Trump.
