Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Esther Walson-Jack, has charged Civil Servants not to rely on connections with the top to succeed.

At an evening event to mark the end of the Civil Service week in Abuja, Walson-Jack stated that “You do not need to be in the spotlight to make an impact. Let your service speak. Do your work so well that it cannot be ignored.”

At the event, outstanding Federal Civil Servants were celebrated in grand style with recipients going home with SUVs, houses, cash prizes, laptops, and foreign training opportunities.

The ceremony marked a major milestone in the ongoing transformation of the civil service under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Mrs Walson-Jack, who led the event, described it as a turning point in the public service culture — one that now prioritizes excellence, punctuality, and meaningful impact over titles.

“Our civil servants matter, and tonight we are not just rewarding work — we are validating impact. These awardees are quiet reformers who breathe life into governance every single day.”

Dr. Bahijjatu Hadiza of the Federal Ministry of Environment emerged as the star performer of the night, winning the prestigious Presidential Star Prize.

Her award included a brand-new SUV, a laptop, an international short course, a masterclass programme, a plaque, and a certificate.

Chukwudi Ekwenugo from the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy also stood out, receiving an SUV, N500,000 cash prize, a laptop, and foreign training.

Several other awardees across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) received between N250,000 and N500,000 in cash, laptops, and in some cases, home ownership benefits, one of the most generous reward packages in the history of Nigeria’s civil service.

Walson-Jack also used the occasion to commend President Tinubu for his unwavering support for civil service reforms while issuing a firm reminder to MDAs that failed to participate or submitted ineligible nominees. She urged full compliance in future editions.

Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof Tunji Olaopa, praised the Head of Service as a beacon of administrative reform, saying that she has given the civil service a new face.

He further lauded the seamless collaboration between the Federal Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

Olaopa commended President Tinubu for providing the support needed to sustain reforms and reward excellence.

The awards night capped a landmark Civil Service Week that featured Nigeria’s maiden International Civil Service Conference, where global delegates exchanged ideas on modern governance.

Declare State Of Emergency In The North – NEF Urges Tinubu

Following the spate Of insecurity bedeviling the Northern part of the country, the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has urged  President Bola Tinubu to declare a  State of Emergency in the Zone.

The NEF stated that it was necessary to address the unabating insecurity challenges affecting the North.

The Elders, also, condemned the killing of over 20 soldiers in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

In a statement by the spokesperson, Prof Abubakar Jiddere, NEF expressed pain over the brutal killing of the soldiers in an ambush by terrorists in the are, and described it as total collapse of security in Northern Nigeria.

Jiddere said the boldness demonstrated by the terrorists is an indication of declaring war against Nigeria, and added that northern Nigeria is under siege.

He said: “More than 20 uniformed men, defenders of the nation, were slaughtered like animals by a gang of well-armed terrorists who launched a brazen, coordinated ambush that completely overwhelmed the base.

“This is not just an attack, it is a declaration of war against the Nigerian State, and the State is losing.

“This barbaric assault is only the latest chapter in the ongoing bloodbath that has turned Northern Nigeria into a war zone throughout June 2025.

“From Benue to Plateau, from Kwara to Kaduna, and from Zamfara to Sokoto, Borno, and now Niger, what we are witnessing is not mere insecurity, it is an unrelenting campaign of terror, mass murder, and state failure.

“Entire communities are being wiped out, homes torched, lives shattered, and still, the killers roam freely, unchallenged, and unpunished.

“The truth is stark and undeniable: the Nigerian government has failed abysmally and consistently in its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

“The North is drowning in blood, its people abandoned, while the security forces either cannot respond or are completely absent.

“The Northern Elders Forum will no longer accept hollow condolences, tired speeches, or sterile press releases. Nigerians deserve visible, aggressive, and accountable action now.

“If the federal government continues to delay, deflect, or downplay this crisis, the Nigerian people will have no choice but to believe, rightly or wrongly, that this inaction is willful, or worse, complicit.

“The Forum demands the immediate declaration of a state of emergency on security across Northern Nigeria.

“This must be followed by decisive, joint military, and intelligence operations with the sole objective of locating and eliminating every single terrorist and armed group threatening our people, regardless of who shelters them or where they operate.

“The blood of Northern Nigerians is not cheap. Our soldiers are not cannon fodder. Our citizens will not continue to die silently while a complacent government watches from a distance.

“The NEF warns in the clearest possible terms that the continued federal inaction will provoke open resistance.

“The patience of our people has run out. The legitimacy of any government that cannot or will not protect its citizens is gone. Enough is enough. We will not be silent. The North will not kneel before terror.”

Why Ondo CP Was Redeployed

0
Wilfred Afolabi - Ondo CP

By Ayodele Oni

Reports from the Ondo State Police Command has shed light on the sudden redeployment of the State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi.

Afolabi, whose news of redeployment filtered in last Thursday, has spent less than a year in the State and was just settling down to prosecute the war against Cultism and kidnapping.

Sources at the Command indicate that contrary to online report linking his redeployment to the June 12 protest by the members of Take it Back movement, the transfer was a normal and routine posting within the Force.

The source stated that “The Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally state that his redeployment had no connection whatsoever with the said protest, which was handled professionally and commended by both Police authorities and members of the public.

“He views the report as misleading, malicious, and aimed at distorting facts for sensationalism.

“CP Wilfred Afolabi, a seasoned and disciplined officer with over three decades of meritorious service, understands the dynamics of the Nigeria Police Force, where transfers and redeployments are a routine part of service.

“He affirms that every appointment or redeployment comes from God, and if it was not divinely sanctioned, he would not have been privileged to serve in the capacity he did.

“As a man of strong faith and unwavering commitment to duty, CP Afolabi has continued to uphold professionalism and discipline in his conduct.

“During the most recent monthly briefing with officers and men of the command, he emphasized the importance of professionalism, good ethics, and exemplary conduct in the discharge of their duties.

“Contrary to the false narrative being circulated, CP Afolabi harbours no bitterness or regret over his redeployment.

“If anything, his tenure in Ondo State has been marked by notable achievements, including the arrest and prosecution of over 30 confirmed kidnappers, the dismantling of 83 cult gangs, and the apprehension of numerous armed robbers and car snatchers.

“These successes are a testament to his dedication, effectiveness, and leadership.

“Furthermore, following his redeployment notice on Thursday, CP Afolabi continued his duties diligently, encouraging officers to remain focused, professional, and emotionally detached from transfers, which are part of the service.

“In a show of professionalism and humility, he personally contacted the incoming Commissioner of Police, congratulated him, and scheduled the formal handover for Monday, June 30th, to ensure a smooth transition.

“CP Wilfred Afolabi remains committed to the ideals of the Nigeria Police Force and continues to serve with honour, integrity, and the fear of God.”

Afolabi is expected to be replaced by CP Adebowale Lawal.

Gov Peter Mbah

By Ayodele Oni

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has spoken on his possible defection rumour saying despite crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he would not leave the party.

During an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) held on Saturday in Enugu, Mbah, assured his audience that he has no intention of abandoning the party under which he was elected.

Dispelling doubts about his political alignment, Mbah said, “I remain a member of the PDP. As you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”

He acknowledged the party’s internal disputes but stressed that such challenges are not unique to the PDP saying “Other political parties in Nigeria are equally dealing with their own issues.”

The governor expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger.

He also emphasized that his administration is focused on delivering good governance and development to the people of Enugu State.

“It’s clear that we are here to serve the people of Enugu, and our focus has been largely on governance. In the end, it is up to the people to decide whether to renew our mandate or vote us out.”

He also revealed that his main challenger in the 2023 gubernatorial race, Chijioke Edeoga, has returned to the PDP and is now working closely with his administration.

“We are now collaborating, and that has significantly reduced political tension and unnecessary spending on conflicts.”

Mbah noted that the political environment in the state has become more peaceful due to this renewed cooperation.

On the issue of independent candidacy in Nigeria, Mbah clarified that the current constitution does not provide for individuals to contest elections without party sponsorship.

“The constitution does not allow for independent candidacy; one must be sponsored by a political party, so politics cannot be completely avoided,” he explained

Obi To Tinubu: ”This Is No Time For Holidaying, There Are Problems At Home”

0
Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu

Labour Party standard bearer, Peter Obi, has taken a critical look at President Bola Tinubu’s leisure trip to St. Lucia in the Caribbean as unwise given the myriad problems at home he needs to tackle.

In a long write-up on his X handle on Saturday titled, ‘No, Mr President this is not the time for Holidaying’ Obi wrote,

“Dear Nigerians I am struggling with my senses to understand what is happening to governance in this country.

“What I have seen and witnessed in the last two years has left me in shock about poor governance delivery and apparent channelling of energy into politics and satisfaction of the elites, while the masses in our midst are languishing in want.

“In the past two years, Nigeria has lost more people to all sorts of criminality than a country that is officially at war. Without any twilight, Nigeria ranks among the most insecure places in the world. Nigerians are hungrier, and most people do not know where their next meal will come from.

“Just this week, the International Monetary Fund, IMF released per capita data showing  Nigeria as the 12th poorest country in the World and we remain the country with the highest number of people living in poverty.

“With such a gory picture of one’s country, you can imagine my bewilderment when I saw a news release from the Presidency announcing that President Bola Tinubu is departing Nigeria today for a visit to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean.

The Presidency release merely confirmed an earlier news report since last week  where the Prime Minister of the Caribbean Philip J. Pierre announced at a pre-cabinet press briefing on Monday, last week that

President Bola Tinubu is expected to depart Nigeria on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for Saint Lucia for official engagements and private leisure time.

“According to the Prime Minister’s announcement “two of these days, June 30 and July 1, will be dedicated to an official visit, with the remainder of the trip set aside as a personal vacation.

I told the person who drew my attention to the Caribbean story that it cannot be true and that the President is just coming back from a holiday in Lagos. I didn’t want to believe that anybody in the position of authority, more so the President, on whose table the buck stops in this country, with all the myriad problems in virtually all areas of governance, would contemplate a leisure trip at this time.

“This is a President going for leisure when he couldn’t visit Minna, Niger state where over two hundred lives were lost and over 700 persons still missing in a flood natural disaster. I wonder which type of incident will happen before a President is attracted to show physical sympathy to the distressed citizens.

“The other state in crisis where over two hundred lives were murdered, the President yielded to public pressure and visited Makurdi the state capital for what turned out to be a political jamboree than condolence as public holiday was declared and children made to line up to receive the President who couldn’t even reach the village, the scene of the brutal attack.

“In terms of land size, Makurdi is  937.4 Km², which is over 59% bigger than St Lucia, which is 617 km², and Minna is 6789 square kilometres, which is ten times bigger than St Lucia.

St Lucia, with a population of 180,000, is less than half of Makurdi’s 489 839  and Minna, with 532, 000  is almost three times the population of St Lucia.

“I don’t think the situation in this country today calls for leisure for anybody in a position of authority, more so the President, on whose desk the buck stops. This regime has repeatedly shown its insensitivity and lack of passion for the populace, going by the way it prioritises the rich and shows indifference to the poor.

“This very obvious indifference of the federal government to the suffering of the Nigerian poor should urgently be reversed. One had expected the President to be asking God for extra hours in a day for the challenges, but what we see is a concentration of efforts in the 2027 election and on satisfying the wealthy while the mass poor continues to multiply in number.

Finally, I like to let our leaders know one thing that the God given resources of this country belong to all, not to a few. The time has come to put a stop to this drift before it consumes all and focus on pulling people out of poverty.”

“A new Nigeria is POssible”.

“I wish to most sincerely send my heartfelt condolences to the esteemed Dantata family on the passing of the revered patriarch and statesman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata at the graceful age of 94. Alhaji Dantata’s legacy stretches across generations, industries, and communities.

His humility, compassion and simplicity, even in vast wealth, are virtues worth emulating. He uplifted not just Nigeria’s economy but the Nigerian people through his wisdom in commerce and his philanthropy.

As we mourn him today, I pray Allah (SWT) grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and grants his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

I also pray that his legacy of selflessness, enterprise and humility continues to inspire Nigeria for generations to come.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

2027: Tinubu Activates High stakes Re-election Strategies

0
Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rabiu Kwankwaso

By Akinjide Aina, Abuja Bereau Chief

“Real Reason Ganduje Was Forced Out,  The Shettima, Kwankwaso Angles”

Apparently living up to his hype moniker cum chieftaincy title, “Jagaban”  which roughly translates to ” a war leader” or “strong man” and signifies someone who is powerful and influential, President Bola Tinubu has formally commenced high stakes re-election strategies and he is taking no prisoners.

Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the loquacious immediate past Governor of Kano state and until Friday, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC is the president’s first victim. The next in line, some  APC sources told this magazine, is Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Contrary to his lame duck reasons  for leaving his plum party position , Ganduje, This  Magazine was told, was given just 24 hours to resign or be disgraced out. He complied promptly having got the wind that his corruption cases have been dusted up and were about to be acted upon with dispatch by the EFCC. In effect, the  former Governor was forced to resign.

VP Kashim Shettima
Shettima: Fate sealed

But why?

Ganduje, it was learnt, was not ready to share the Kano political space with anyone and was, therefore, resisting the Tinubu- inspired defection to the APC, of the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP in the 2023 presidential election, Dr Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso. Recall that Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s Deputy and was instrumental to the ex- APC National Chairman becoming Governor. However, no sooner had Ganduje settled down as Governor than he started fighting Kwankwaso.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu who sources claimed has sworn to bulldoze his way back to Aso Rock  irrespective “of the politcal cost,  encounberances and opposition”, has engaged 2027 cold calculations while Ganduje was busy flexing his muscles with his former boss.

Realising that Kwankwaso is a bigger pie and wields enormous electoral strength than Ganduje and with the former refusing to have anything to do with the APC if the latter remained as the party’s National Chairman, Tinubu wasted no time in ditching Ganduje to court Kwankwaso.

With the core Muslim North not disposed to supporting his re-election, President  Tinubu is believed to have talked Kwankwaso into joining the APC to shore up his ( Tinubu) electability and dwindling support base and goodwill in that part of the country.

Though, the President is considering running with a Northern Christian Deputy in 2027- reportedly either former Speaker of the House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara from Bauchi state or former Benue state Governor and current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume- Kwankwaso may likely replace Shettima in another Muslim-Muslim ticket as a last minute effort to placate the core North.

Multiple APC sources allege that if it becomes clear, as 2007 approaches, that replacing Shettima with another Muslim VP is the only life-wire for Tinubu’s re-election, Shettima will  resign the same way as Ganduje  so that Kwankwaso will be named the VP and run with the President as a sitting VP in 2027.

This medium was unable to confirm this.

There is also the  suggestion that to fully take control of the Kano APC, the Senator representing Kwankwaso’s Senatorial district should be asked to resign so that the former Governor will go to the Senate; that way he will automatically become the APC leader in the State in line with President Tinubu’s determination to have him as a member of his inner caucus knowing his electoral worth.

The magazine gathered that even if Kwankwaso is not eventually picked as Tinubu’s running mate for 2027 presidential election, the President will reconfigure the power equation in the country in his second term to accommodate him in the top echelon.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed sources allege that President Tinubu’s decision to drop Shettima is on the table. “Take it to the bank, Vice President Kashim Shettima is a one-term VP; he will not return in 2027 because Baba (President Tinubu) will not re-nominate him as his running mate. In 2023. Shettima brought nothing to the table in terms of votes and the man (Tinubu) does not want to take chances in 2027”, a highly placed APC source told the magazine.

Besides, some party chieftains that have the ears of the President  reportedly alleged that the number two citizen  orchestrated the recent fracas at the APC North east Summit in Gombe  to curry sympathy within and outside the Northeast with the view of forcing the President’s hands.

Recall that violence erupted at the summit following the organisers failure to also endorse Shettima after endorsing President Tinubu for second term.

The said APC chieftains, mostly from the South west, point to the incident as another of Shettima’s alleged desperation and vaulting ambition, recalling that the VP, as a running mate, had, during the electioneering campaign for the 2023 presidential election, emphatically declared that if he and Tinubu eventually got elected, he (Shettima) as Vice president will be in charge of security while Tinubu takes charge of the economy, a remark many viewed as a notice of an impending power struggle with his principal if elected.

APC Governors Applaud Resignation Of Ganduje, Pledges Support For Renewed Hope Agenda

APC Governors

By Ayodele Oni

Nigerian Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), have described the resignation of the party’s National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as a positive step towards internal reform and democracy within the party.

The Governors reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

These are part of the resolutions at the conclusion of a two-day strategic retreat in Benin City, Edo State.

The retreat, hosted by Edo State Governor  Monday Okpebholo, brought together members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) to assess national socio-economic priorities, security, and party unity.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, praised President Tinubu’s reform efforts in fiscal stability, energy transition, and infrastructure renewal, describing them as “foundational to inclusive growth and equity.”

A significant highlight was the formal reception of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and his supporters into the APC fold, which the Forum hailed as a sign of the growing national appeal of Tinubu’s governance style.

They pledged continued collaboration, innovation, and adherence to progressive ideals to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to Nigerians.

The session ended with a tribute to late elder statesman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, whose death was solemnly acknowledged with a moment of silence.

Ganduje: Return National Chairman To N/Central For “Equity and Justice”- Group

0
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, must ensure that the North Central region of the country produces the next National Chairman of the party. This is to ensure ‘’equity and justice”, the North-Central APC Forum  said on Saturday.

The forum, in a statement signed by its Chairman , Saleh Zazzaga also disclosed that the ruling party must do the ‘right’ thing by ensuring that the somebody from the region succeeds Abdulahi Ganduje who sudden resigned his position on Friday.

The magazine reported that Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano state  stepped down from the position in protestation against reported alignment between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former Governor of Kano state, to serve as the ruining mate to the president in the next presidential election. Ganduje and Kwakwanso were once allies before they turned sworn political foes.

Thus following Ganduje’s resignation, some APC stalwarts are already positioning themselves to take his position.

According to the APC North Central Forum, the leadership of the party  now has the opportunity to correct past wrongs by ensuring that someone from the region occupies the position.

The group also appealed to President Tinubu to use his exalted position to ensure that the region produces the substantive National Chairman of the party, saying the region has  individuals capable of leading the party to victory in 2027.

Part of the statement: “It is on record that the North-Central APC Forum had for long advocated that the party honours the principles of the subsisting zoning arrangement which ceded the position of National Chairman to the North-Central. We agitated that the region be allowed to complete the tenure of former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, even going to court to argue our case.

“But after the ratification of the appointment of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman by the National Executive Committee (NEC) in the overall interest of the party, we decided to suspend the agitation. Our decision to suspend the agitation at that time was also informed by the fact that we observed that the APC was moving in the right direction, waxing stronger by the day under Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje’s leadership as can be demonstrated by the high profile defections to the party, including governors and members of the National Assembly.

“During Alhaji Abdullahi’s time as National Chairman, several governors including those of Delta and Akwa Ibom states, defected to the APC. Also during the period, several members of the Senate and House of Representatives joined the party. It is equally on record that many high profile opposition politicians defected to the APC during Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje’s leadership.

“Also, the APC, under Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, won states that were held by the opposition, particularly Edo State, where APC defeated the incumbent PDP government. Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje also united the party, ensuring stability in the APC at a time when the major opposition parties were battling series of internal crises. These and more were the reasons we decided to suspend the agitation.

“Now that the Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje has decided to step aside, we feel it is only fair and just for the party to, finally, do the right thing and allow the North-Central to produce the National Chairman, for the sake of fairness, justice, and equity.

“We are therefore appealing to President Bola Tinubu, who we have found to be a listening President, and stakeholders of the party to allow the North-Central to produce the next Chairman of the APC. We also appeal to the President to direct the Acting National Chairman to immediately convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for the purpose of electing a substantive National Chairman, who will come from the North-Central.

“The resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, who proved himself to be a capable National Chairman, though not what we wished for, has presented the party with a golden opportunity to right the wrongs and correct the injustice done to the North-Central,” the forum said.

Thus following Ganduje’s resignation, the party appointed Ali Bukar Dalori, former APC National Vice Chairman North as the Acting National Chairman in line with the APC Constitution.
