Democracy Not Under Any Threat In Nigeria – Wike

Nyesom Wike - FCT Minister
Nyesom Wike

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, warned the newly elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, against engaging in dangerous rhetorics capable of eroding the unity and corporate existence of Nigeria.

This is as he insisted that there is neither genocide against Christians, nor is the country’s democracy under any threat.

The Source reports that Turaki had, in the wake of the struggle for the control of the Wadata Plaza, National Headquarters of the PDP, with the Wike-backed faction of the Party on Monday, called on the international community, particularly the United States of America, USA, President, Donald Trump, to not just wade in over alleged mass killings of Christians in the country, but intervene to save democracy from collapse under the weight of President Bola Tinubu’s administration perceived interference in the affairs of opposition parties.

But speaking during a courtesy visit to his office by the Board of South South Development Commission SSDC, Wike, a principal actor in the crisis tearing the PDP apart, maintained that Turaki’s call on Trump to intervene in the internal affairs of Nigeria tantamount to a serious threat to national security.

The FCT Minister insisted that if there is any threat to democracy, it was the refusal of Turaki and his enablers to obey two Federal High Court orders, halting the Ibadan National Convention of the PDP.

He described as the height of impunity, the decision of the PDP to go ahead with the Convention after two Courts of competent jurisdiction had ruled otherwise.

“You are calling on President Trump to come and save your democracy when you could not obey a simple court judgement.

“Now, you are turning it around against a Government. What is their business? You cannot keep your house in order; you are blaming an outsider for not keeping your house in order.

“Who does that? You are calling on Trump to come, and save your democracy. Our democracy is not under threat. People went to Court to challenge what you were doing. Then you think, as usual, you can engage in impunity. We can’t continue that way”, Wike stated.

Faulting the alleged genocide against Christians in the country, the FCT Minister described Turaki’s statement as not only reckless but deserving of investigation by security agencies.

According to him, the new PDP Chairman’s comments amounted to claims that the Government of Nigeria is presently engaged in genocidal attack on Christians.

“You came out and made a statement on national television claiming genocide against Christians. In essence, you have come out to tell the world that what this Government is doing is carrying out genocide against Christians. And where are the security agencies?

“For somebody to make that kind of statement, he is supposed to be invited by security agencies to explain more on what he knows about genocide against any group. Here, nobody has invited him. But if it is Wike, oh they will say ‘kill him’ he further stated.

The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, has been given the green light to contest the Kano State Governorship seat in 2027.

Barau was, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 endorsed by both serving and former members of the APC Kano State legislative body as the best option open to the  Party to meaningfully challenge Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf.

A statement from Ismail Mudashiru, the media aide to the Deputy Senate President, informed that  over 200 State Lawmakers who were led by a former Speaker of House, Rt Hon Abdulaziz Gafasa, gave the endorsement during a courtesy call on Barau.

According to the Legislators, Senator Barau, so far, remains the only credible, most acceptable, and marketable aspirant within the Kano State APC for the State’s top job.

“We are here to tell you that we are solidly behind you for three reasons. One, you have positively impacted the lives of our people across the three Senatorial Districts of Kano State.

“Two, you have been a lifeline to our party, the APC. Thirdly, you have positively touched our lives even though some of us are not from the same Senatorial District as you. This has made you the most marketable aspirant in APC ” Gafasa stated .

Similarly ,the recently elected member of the State House of Assembly, representing Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency, Hon Garba Yau Gwarmai, expressed their readiness and commitment to mobilize the people, especially at the grassroots, for the Deputy Senate President’s gubernatorial ambition.

He emphasized that the endorsement from the state Lawmakers is an eloquent testimony to his track record of outstanding service to the people over the years .

“This endorsement is based on your track record of outstanding service over the years. You have been making positive impact on the lives of our people.

“You have done well in all spheres of our State. This is why we want you to govern Kano, our beloved State”,  Hon Gwarmai noted.

Responding, the Deputy Senate President, while appreciating the Legislators for the visit, support and understanding, however called for concerted efforts from all to rescue and restore the glory days of Kano State.

“We have to work hard and make sacrifices to restore the glory days of our State. It is a thing of joy that you have come together to salvage our State from the ongoing misgovernance. Let us continue to work together to rescue our beloved State”, Barau stated .

The Source reports that the endorsement is coming at a time the Deputy Senate President is yet to officially declare his interest to contest the polls .

However, there are strong indications that he will be throwing his hat into the ring as all his actions and activities in the last one year point to his interest in occupying the State’s seat of power.

“On Your Mandate We Shall Stand”: NJI Says Judiciary Had No Control Over Musical Selections Of Guards Brigade Band

By Adesina Soyooye

The National Judicial Institute, NJI, has risen in strong defence of the Nigerian Judiciary, and Nigerian Judges, over the singing of a political song, “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand” at the All Nigerian Judges Conference, declared open by President Bola Tinubu. The song is seen as pledging allegiance to the President instead of the Constitution and the Republic.

Condemnation, like claps of thunder, had greeted the playing of the political song at the Conference.

The Guards Brigade Band had, briefly, played the song as the President walked down from  the podium after delivering his address to the Judges.

As he walked back, the Judges, as is required by protocol, stood up in reverence to the office of the President.

But since then, not a few Nigerians have come down hard on them, insisting that they have committed sacrilege and, finally; sold out to the President.

Activist and Law Professor, Chidi Odinkalu, in angry reaction, said  “The Judiciary has defected to the APC.” He had a number of supporters. Some argued that the Judges should have openly protested, or sat down, while the song was being played, instead of being on their feet and joining in singing the chorus.

However, the NJI has dismissed the allegation against the Judges as unfounded, bundle of lies, mischievous, and a deliberate effort to run down the image of the Nigerian Judiciary.

In a statement issued by its Head, Information, Media and Public Relations, Kolade Umoru, the NJI said nothing could be further from the truth.

The statement explained that no Judge sang the “On Your Mandate  We Shall Stand” song, and insisted that the only song they sang was the National Anthem.

The statement also explained that the Judges neither requested for the song, nor  suggest to the Guards Brigade Band, to play the song. More important, they had no control in t choosing/selecting for the Band, which songs to play or not, as it was strictly a protocol affair.

It said: “The Judiciary had no control over the musical selections of the Guards Brigade which operates under military ceremonial procedures.”

It further explained why the Judges were on their feet. “Out of due deference to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Judges rose to their feet as the President walked to the podium.”

The statement vouched for the integrity and non-partisanship of the Judiciary and urged members of the public and the media “to exercise restraint, verify information, and avoid amplifying falsehoods capable of undermining the integrity of national institutions.”

Following, is the full text of the statement.

RE-FALSE REPORTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA REGARDING THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 2025 ALL NIGERIA JUDGES CONFERENCE

“The attention of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), has been drawn to the several misleading and inaccurate reports  circulating on social media suggesting that Judges in attendance at the opening ceremony of the 2015 All Judges Conference sang a political chorus (“On Your Mandate We Shall Stand”) in allegiance to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This claim is entirely false, unfounded, and does not reflect the events that transpired at the ceremony.

“For the avoidance of doubt:

“1.The National Anthem was the only song rendered collectively by all participants at both the commencement and conclusion of the Opening Ceremony.

“2. No Judge in attendance sang, or chanted any political song at any point during the programme.

“3. The brief rendition of the tune “On Your Mandate” was not initiated, requested, or endorsed by the Judiciary. It was played solely by the Guards Brigade Band as part of their ceremonial protocol to usher the President to the podium for his address. The Judiciary had no control over the musical selections of the Brigade, which operates under military ceremonial procedures.

“4. Out of due deference to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Judges rose to their feet as the President walked to the podium.

“5. The Judiciary remains strictly non-partisan, deeply committed to constitutional neutrality, and wholly insulated from political activities or symbols of political allegiance.

“The 2025 All Nigeria Judges Conference is a statutory and professional gathering focused on strengthening the justice system and reinforcing public confidence in the Judiciary. Any attempt to distort the solemnity of the event or attribute political motives to judicial officers is unfortunate, misleading, and a disservice to the public.

“We urge members of the public and the media to exercise restraint, verify information, and avoid amplifying falsehoods capable of undermining the integrity of national institutions.

“The Judiciary will continue to uphold its oath of office with dignity, independence, and unwavering fidelity to the Constitution.

No less than 600 vulnerable persons in Imo State, particularly the physically-challenged among them, were Wednesday, November 19, 2025, lifted out of the poverty lane through the Renewed Hope Initiatives (RHI), the brain-child of Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The exercise which took place at the Government House Owerri was carefully designed to achieve inclusion of the vulnerable persons in the scheme of things of government, with emphasis on lifting such population in Imo State out of poverty.

Represented at the occasion by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, Mrs Tinubu who is the Chairman of RHI gave out different food items and cash to the beneficiaries before a large audience of invitees that included National and State government officials.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Tinubu’s representative, Hajia Shettima, emphasised the need to empower women, citing their critical roles in shaping the nation’s future.

She encouraged women in general to take on leadership roles, embracing their unique strengths and seeking opportunities to make a positive impact in their various homes.

Senator Oluremi disclosed that RHI plans to launch more economic empowerment programmes, including grants, for persons living with disabilities, “as the initiative aims to promote inclusive growth and social protections for all Nigerians.”

While calling for collaboration and unwavering commitment to creating a better future, the wife of the President expressed gratitude to organisations and persons who have remained committed to supplying food items monthly to support the Renewed Hope Initiative ideals.

She used the occasion to announce the upcoming events of the RHI, including the closing ceremony of its Women’s ICT training programme and the launching of environment clubs in Schools to promote cleanliness and tree planting.

In her remarks, wife of the Governor of Imo State who is also the Secretary of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma said the food outreach programme organised by the RHI under the leadership of Senator Tinubu, was borne out of deep empathy and concern for the welfare of all Nigerians facing difficult circumstances.

Barr. Uzodimma noted that the food outreach programme was “designed to restore hope, strengthen communities and affirm shared humanity,” not just in Imo State but elsewhere in Nigeria.

She expressed gratitude to partners, donors, and everyone involved in making the initiative a success, emphasising that “true development is a collective effort.”

“This programme is not just charity, but a gesture to remind beneficiaries that they are not alone,” the Imo First Lady stressed, reminding them that their “strength and challenges are recognised.”

Some of the beneficiaries, Okoro Sylvia (Ehime Mbano), Fidelia Madumere (Ihitte-Uboma), Ibeziem Chika (Onuimo), all special citizens, among others who spoke to newsmen, expressed their profound joy to Mrs Tinubu, Mrs. Shettima, and Mrs. Uzodimma for their show of love towards their well-being, that of the widows and orphans across the 36 States of Nigeria.

They prayed God to bless and imbue them with more wisdom to pilot the affairs of the nation, noting, joyfully, that the food items they received will go a long way in alleviating the needs of their families.

“His legislative footprint included sponsoring the bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and championing the proposed creation of Adada State—a legacy bill he pursued with unwavering commitment until his health challenges began.

“He, also, moved several motions, including one calling for the establishment of a military base in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State to curb persistent attacks by armed herdsmen.

“Prior to his emergence as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the Labour Party, LP, he was a founding member of the APC and played a key role in building the party’s structure in Enugu State in 2013.

“He, however, contested the governorship three times—twice under the Labour Party in 2007 and 2011, and again in 2015 under the APC.

“His election to the Senate in 2023, in which he defeated an incumbent governor, was widely regarded as a major political upset.”

The family noted that Senator Ezea remained steadfast in his political principles, being the only federal lawmaker from Enugu State elected on the Labour Party platform in 2023 who refused to defect to the ruling party, despite pressure.

“I will lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help? My help comes from the Lord.

He is the helper of the helpless, we’re currently helpless, we’ve tried all we can in Nigeria, we’ve striked, protested, all we can do now is keep doing what we’ve been doing and also pray.

“I am a Doctor in Plateau State, Jos, I know the number of people that have been treated in our facility as a result of assault by these terrorists.

:People living in fear all the days of their lives.

People’s skull hacked like palm trees, people’s hands dangling with only but skin left to hold the limb.

Falz Urges President Tinubu To Resign, Reflects On The President’s 2014 Tweet

0
Falz Falana and Bola Tinubu

By Akinwale Kasali

Folarin Falana, Nigerian rapper and activist, popular as Falz, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign from his position as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This call follows the abduction of 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, and the execution of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State.

The Rapper in a post on X (former Twitter) on Wednesday, referenced the 2014 tweet by Tinubu in which the then opposition leader asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign for allegedly failing to tackle insecurity following the abduction of Chibok Girls.

Going down memory lane and quoting Tinubu’s words, Falz wrote: “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”

The tweet by Falz cited the post in Tinubu of November 2014, seven months after the abduction of Chibok girls.

Tinubu wrote:

“Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

It would be recalled that  Tinubu had, also, made similar comments earlier that year while speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State. He accused the Jonathan administration of lying about insecurity and lacking the capacity to protect Nigerians.

According to Tinubu at the time: “I saw the sea of displaced persons caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today and it is what they will repeat tomorrow. They are lying to you.”

He added: “If you control the armed forces and you are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, why should any part of this country be under occupation? And you give us excuses every day. In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign. But if he will not resign, he should wait for our broom, we will sweep them?”

The Kano State Government has approved the  employment, and deployment of 1,600 guards to provide round-the-clock surveillance and protection at the State’s public schools.

The development is coming on the heels of the abduction of 25  Kebbi state female students from their hostels.

The Source reports that some  terrorist elements had early Monday morning November 17, 2025 attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi state, killed the Vice Principal, a security guard, and kidnapped 25 students.

The unfortunate incident expectedly has since provoked shock ,anger and anxiety , with many security challenged states , especially in the North West region of Nigeria, taking pre-emptive measures to avert a similar incident.

Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf who approved the appointment and distribution of the permanent and pensionable security personnel, said the development represents a significant step towards restoring safety , discipline and stability to public schools in Kano State .

A statement on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from his media aide Sanusi Bature Tofa, informed that the security guards will play a critical role in safeguarding school premises, monitoring unauthorized activities, and supporting the smooth running of academic activities.

The Kano State Governor emphasized the importance of a secure and generally conducive environment to the pursuit of  meaningful academic activities.

He noted that the protection of students, teachers and school facilities remain a top and uncompromising priority of his administration.

According to Governor Yusuf, no meaningful academic activities can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity

The Source further reports that Kano, which had since the  outbreak of insurgency and banditry activities in most Northern states of the country, has almost  been insulated from the mailase, a few weeks ago, finally succumbed to the debilitating scourge.

Presently, Shanono and Bagwai Local Councils in the Kano North Senatorial District have been the most hard-hit by the emerging terrorists activities in the state.

It is strongly believed that bandits and other terrorists from neighbouring States of Katsina are majorly responsible for the attacks on a section of Kano North.

The cross border attacks are, also, believed to be a direct consequence of the recent controversial peace deal said to have been struck between banditry lords and the Katsina state authorities.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari have reacted to the shocking attack by bandits on a church at Eruku which claimed lives and abduction of several worshippers.

Report revealed that an unconfirmed number of worshipers were  abducted when bandits attacked a branch of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) at Oke Isegun in the Eruku community, a boundary town with Kogi in the Ekiti LGA of Kwara state while Church  Service was ongoing.

A video of the attack, captured during a live stream shows the worshipers conducting a service when sporadic gunshots were heard from around the church premises on Tuesday.

The congregation, led by a young Pastor, scampered for safety as the gunshots intensified, after which some bandits were seen entering the church. The screams from the members of the congregation, including children, were heartbreaking.

More than five armed bandits stormed the building and ransacked the place of worship, carting away belongings of the worshippers. The young Pastor who was conducting the service was one of those abducted, according to reports.

In response, Governor AbdulRazaq requested that more security agents  be urgently  deployed  to Ekiti Local Government Area, especially Eruku axis, to immediately curtail the new wave of attacks in the area.

“The Governor sought immediate deployment of more security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area,” according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye.

“He requested that this new measure be activated immediately. The Governor condemned the unconscionable attack, sympathised and identified with the people of Eruku and environs, especially families and the CAC directly impacted by the condemnable attack of Tuesday.

“The state government will continue to support the security agencies to tackle these challenges and ensure safety of lives and properties across the state.”

The Governor, similarly, commended President Bola Tinubu for the deployment of 900 additional troops in Kwara, saying this is expected to strengthen security in the state.

“We have indeed seen appreciable calm in many areas previously affected. We sincerely thank the President for this.

“We are confident that the additional troops will provide further deterrence, overall safety for our people, and permanent calm,” the statement added.

Emir of Ilorin, and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council,  Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari  condemned the Tuesday evening’s attack on some Church worshippers in Eruku town, in Ekiti Local government area of the state.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, expressed concern over the incidence stressing that, “It is most unfortunate, condemnable and worrisome.”

He noted that it is saddened that the dastardly and unpatriotic act occured when governments at all levels are making concerted efforts towards getting the nation rid of banditry, terrorism and other felonious acts.

The Emir  appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts by mobilising forces for the safe return of all the kidnapped victims even as he mourned those who were killed during the attack.

He, therefore, prayed Almighty Allah for the repose of the souls of the dead and comfort their families
