The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has stepped up its demand for the  resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Prof Joash Amupitan, with a formal petition submitted on Wednesday.

The Source reports that the ADC had at a press briefing last week called for the resignation  or sack of the INEC Chairman, following  the electoral body’s decision to withdraw recognition for the Senator David Mark-led National Executive Committee NEC.

The Commission, in a statement on Wednesday April 1, through its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee Mohammed Kudu Haruna had cited a subsisting Court of Appeal judgment ordering parties to maintain the status quo, pending the hearing and determination of a substantive motion before an Abuja Federal High Court on the leadership tussle bedeviling the party as a major reason for its action.

However ,the Mark-led ADC has accused the Prof Amupitan-led INEC of playing out a sinister script from the All Progressive Congress APC Federal Government , with the intent to stifle opposition ,and create a one-party situation ahead of the 2027 polls.

In a fresh letter of protest submitted on Wednesday , during the party’s match to the INEC National Headquarters, and jointly signed by Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, National Chairman and Secretary respectively, the ADC urged Amupitan to resign or prepare to face what it described as ” unprecedented, but lawful constitutional mechanism ,and coordinated civil unrest to get him out of office.

The party anchored its demand on Amupitan’s alleged partisan conduct, gross misconduct , constitutional breaches and threat to democracy.

In the protest letter dated April 8,2026 , the party expressed serious concern  that the hard earned democracy in the Nigeria is currently facing existential threat from the Amupitan-led INEC.

The ADC strongly condemned and rejected most of the actions of the INEC Chairman since mounting the saddle, noting that he has so far proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he is not capable of occupying his present position.

“We write to convey our strongest condemnation of your recent actions and public statements which have further deepened concerns about your fitness to continue in office as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

“Your recent Media interview was not only disgraceful and unbecoming of the high office you occupy, but it also exposed a troubling willingness to descend into partisan controversy and to assume roles far outside the constitutional mandate of the Commission.

“Of grave concern is your attempt to constitute yourself into an interpreter of judicial pronouncements.

“This is wholly unacceptable. The interpretation of Court judgments is the exclusive preserve of the Judiciary. For the Chairman of INEC to publicly assume that role, offering partisan constructions of legal outcomes in a manner that appears to favour a particular individual, amounts to a serious constitutional breach and affront to the doctrine of separation of powers.

” Your conduct, taken together with INEC’s earlier correspondences to the African Democratic Congress ADC, reinforces the perception that the Commission under your leadership has abandoned neutrality and has instead aligned it’s with factional interests . This is not only improper; it is dangerous for the credibility of our electoral system.

“Furthermore, it is a matter of record that the individual in question attended the National Executive Committee NEC meeting of the ADC at which the National Working Committee NWC led by Chief Ralph Nwosu ,of which he was a member, was duly dissolved.

“Having participated in that decision ,any subsequent reliance on his former authority , position or signature is fundamentally flawed , contradictory and devoid of legal credibility..

“INEC’s posture in this regard raises serious questions about bias and institutional overreach”, the ADC stated .

Former Rivers State Governor, and a prominent figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu has the sinister plan of destroying Abuja and returning the capital to Lagos, should be secure a second.

This is as he expressed serious disappointment in the conduct of the  Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan.

According to the immediate past Minister of Transportation, anybody with a reputation to protect will not accept INEC Chairmanship position under the President Tinubu Government.

Amaechi, one of the ADC Presidential hopefuls, who spoke at the party’s protest match to the INEC Abuja Headquarters on Wednesday, accused Amupitan of only being out to do the biddings of the APC-led Federal Government.

“I am ashamed of the INEC Chairman. He started first by making sure new parties were not registered because those who appointed him are afraid of losing in a free and fair election.

“But whether they like it or not, they will lose the elections.

“APC said they are popular. Why are they afraid of elections? Tinubu said he is a leader of NADECO. Why is he killing democracy?

“In 2015, APC enjoyed Mahmud Jega who was the best, and still remains the best INEC Chairman”, he noted .

The former Rivers State Governor warned that Nigeria and Nigerians will face a more excruciating situation should President Tinubu be allowed to secure a second term in office.

He, however, expressed the confidence that the ADC, very much aware of the grim future that stares the country in the face, is more than determined to ease the APC Federal Government out of office come 2027.

According to him, President Tinubu does not mind to ruin Abuja and relocate the country’s capital back to Lagos.

He vowed that the ADC is committed to the task of freeing the people from the iron fist of President Tinubu, insisting that allowing him to continue in office will spell doom for the country.

“APC chased PDP out in 2015. It is our time to chase APC out of power  because it does not mean well for the country..

“If you allow them to continue, they will ruin this capital or take it to Lagos . So, you must vote them out of power” Amaechi added.

The source further reports that the  match  which drew many prominent party stalwarts including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi,  Labour Party, LP Presidential Candidate in 2023 , Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the National Chairman of the party Senator David Mark, Secretary and former Governor of Osun state Rauf Aregbesola ,and so many others, was staged to protest alleged bias ,and misconduct by the Prof.Joash Amupitan-led INEC.

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association,(NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, has reaffirmed that the Judiciary remains the cornerstone of any functional democracy.

He warned that increasing resort to courts in resolving virtually all disputes, particularly electoral matters, poses a serious threat to the nation’s democratic stability.

Olanipekun, spoke on Wednesday as Chairman at the grand finale of the Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okitipupa Branch, held at the Ojaja Park in Akure.

The legal luminary emphasised that the theme, “Imperatives of the Judiciary in a Working Democracy The Common Law Jurisdiction and the Nigerian Experience,” strikes at the very heart of the rule of law and democratic governance.

He pointed out that the stability of any polity rests on an independent judiciary, noting that democracy and the rule of law are inseparable pillars that must be preserved.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa,  advocated for a fair, accessible and people-centred justice system, stressing that the rule of law must reflect the realities and expectations of ordinary citizens.

The Governor said the justice system must not be distant, delayed, or selective, noting that Nigerians deserve a system that is timely, impartial, and responsive to their needs.

According to him, the law should not merely exist as a set of rules, but must serve as the conscience of society and a tool for fairness and equity.

“The cry of the ordinary citizen is simple but powerful: let justice be real, let it be fair, and let it be felt.”

The governor also assured legal practitioners that the courts in Okitipupa would be renovated, stating that, despite granting the judiciary full autonomy, the executive arm of government would oversee the renovations.

He emphasised the critical role of legal practitioners as both defenders of justice and protectors of the common man, urging members of the Bar and Bench to rise above personal interests and uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

The governor noted that his administration in Ondo State has continued to pursue reforms aimed at strengthening judicial institutions, improving public trust, and ensuring that justice is accessible to all, regardless of status or circumstance.

He also highlighted the human dimension of legal practice, reminding lawyers that behind every case are real lives and consequences and called for a balance between legal reasoning and compassion.

Governor Aiyedatiwa further encouraged young lawyers to build their careers on discipline, character and ethical conduct, warning against the temptation of shortcuts in the profession.

The governor, who was honoured with a Special Recognition Award at the event, expressed gratitude for the honour, describing it as a call to greater service and responsibility.

He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to justice, truth, and service, noting that national development depends on the collective choices of citizens to stand against injustice and uphold what is right.

The Untold Story Of Don Norman’s Brush With The Police

Don Norman

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The intriguing internal and leadership crisis bedevilling  the African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Tuesday April 7, 2026, assumed a dramatic dimension, with some self-acclaimed State Chairmen proclaiming loyalty only to the Dumebi  Kachukwu (equally) non-existent National Executive Committee, NEC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had on Wednesday April 1, opened the gate for renewed crisis within the ADC, following the announcement of its withdrawal of recognition from the David Mark-led NEC.

The Commission had cited a subsisting Court of Appeal judgment directing parties in the ADC leadership tussle, namely the Nafiu Bala Gombe and Mark-led leaderships to maintain the status quo, pending the determination of a substantive motion before an Abuja Federal High Court.

But while the dust raised by the unexpected decision of the INEC was yet to  settle, some self-acclaimed State Chairmen under the leadership of its leader and Abia State “Chairman”  Norman Obinna, a.k.a Sheikh Agu Ibeku, not only declared their support for the INEC decision, but insisted that the only recognised ADC NEC remains that headed by the party’s former Presidential Candidate Kachukwu.

“We are in total support of INEC in derecognising the David Mark-led faction.

“ADC has no faction. We are the legal leadership, and the only NEC that is legal and authentic is that led by Dumebi Kachukwu”, Norman stated.

However, since his controversial Tuesday outing, Norman’s trajectories have been expectedly placed on the spot, with not a few questioning his claim to Abia State ADC leadership as well as his motives.

Checks by this magazine revealed that Norman, just like Nafiu Gombe, was part of the ADC leadership structure at the State level that gave way for the final emergence of the Mark-led national leadership in July 2025.

And like Nafiu Gombe, Norman, popular as Sheikh Agu Ibeku is alleged to be prodded by some vested political interests that have coalesced in the APC to renounce and condemn an arrangement which he is fully privy to.

Curiously however, the  forces alleged to be backing his ADC expedition  are the same interests that, a couple years back, sought to put him out of circulation for his alleged bullying and blackmailing tactics culminating in the police declaring him wanted in 2017.

In an exclusive interview with this medium on Wednesday April, 8, 2026 Justus Ogar, a retired Superintendent of Police SP, and the officer who led the manhunt and arrest of  Norman over allegations of Cyber-stalking and posting of false and misleading statements against some individuals, described him as, “dangerously smart”

The Source reports that the Abia State Police Command had, in the wake of a petition written by Engr Chinedu Orji, son of former Governor Theodore A Orji, declared Norman wanted after several fruitless efforts at arresting him.

“The above named person ( Norman Obinna) is hereby declared wanted by the Nigerian Police Force . A warrant of arrest has been issued by a Magistrate Court in Umuahia. He is wanted by the police for the offence of Cyber-stalking, sending/posting of offensive ,false messages by means of Computer System/Network , Sedition , Blackmail etc…..”, the police wanted declaration partly reads.

SP Ogar,  currently a Lagos-based Security Expert, and Consultant , informed that Norman was finally apprehended at the premises of an Umuahia-based FM Radio station, Flo, during a live programme.

“Sometime in 2017, we received a petition from one Chinedu Orji, son of the former Governor of Abia State, T.A Orji,  accusing Obinna of Cyber-bullying and blackmail.

“After the petition ,we moved into action in search of Obinna who was then resident at Ajao area of Lagos.

“We traced him to his residence in Lagos, but he evaded us. At a point, we had to arrest his wife and two children. But we had to release them after taking their statements at Ajao police Division.

“We also made efforts in Umuahia his home town, but he continued to evade arrest.

“However, at a point when he probably thought that the matter had been forgotten, he appeared in a live programme on Flo FM Radio Umuahia.  We mobilized and arrested him at the Radio station.

“After a thorough investigation which led us into the examination of some variables ,we prepared our report which was in three stages with the final report establishing a prima facie case against him as alleged.

“We sent our reports to the State Police Command. But unfortunately, my boss, the then Commissioner of Police, CP in Abia State, was transferred to Delta State, from where he was promoted straight to  Deputy Inspector -General of Police DIG and sent to Force CID  Headquarters.

“So, I was not around when he was arraigned ,and I don’t really know the State of the case in Court. But when we left I contacted my second-in-command to avail me copies of the charges . However ,I am not in a position to say if the case is still on or not .

” I also remember that  Prof ABC Agbazuere ,who later became the Chief of Staff to former Governor iOkezie Ikpeazu was part of those who petitioned against Norman’s alleged Cyber-stalking and blackmail.

“During the investigation, I had the opportunity of gaining an insight into part of his lifestyle. He was referring to  himself as ” Sheikh” ” Agu Ibeku” and he was known for posing for photographs with people lining up the street ,and he will thereafter be posting same online ” Ogar stated .

Interestingly, this magazine gathered that the same forces that complained bitterly about his  alleged blackmailing antices are today majorly hibernating in APC , with speculations rife that Norman’s ADC adventure allegedly enjoys  their support.

Police Debunk Reports Of Arrest Of 488 Suspected Boko Haram In Abia State

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Abia State Police Command has rejected claims suggesting that a significant number of suspected Boko Haram terrorists were recently intercepted  in the State.

The source reports that a video in circulation claims that over 488 suspected terrorists linked to the Boko Haram group were apprehended by security operatives in Abia State.

Expectedly, the reports have heightened tension and generated fears among not a few in the State.

But in a statement on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Maureen Chilaka, a DSP , while dismissing the claim as false and misleading, explained that the said video has been in circulation in the past eleven years.

According to her, the said video is an old material which has no bearing to the present security situation in Abia State.

This is as she insisted that there was no such interception of terrorist elements, noting that security agencies in the state remain alert and on top of the security situation.

The Police Command spokesperson while suing for calm, urged the people to go about their normal activities , assuring adequate protection of lives and properties by security agencies across the street.

The police warned  individuals and groups against sharing and disseminating unverified information, with the intent to create unnecessary tension and panic among the public.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, warns against the dissemination of false information intended to cause fear or civil unrest.

“Any individual found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act ,and the Cybercrime ( Prohibition/Prevention) Act”, the police warned

By Akinwale Kasali

Hon. Dickson Chollom, representing Barkin Ladi Constituency in Plateau State House of Assembly, has alleged that those responsible for the killings in Jos, Plateau State Capital, on Palm Sunday are known.

He quashed the idea of the use of the term “unknown gunmen”.

He categorically stated that those responsible for the recent attacks and killings in the State are now known.

Chollom, who  Chairs the House Committee on Works and Transport, said this during a sympathy and fact-finding visit to Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, following the recent attack which claimed three lives and left one person critically injured.

The victims were identified as Marvin Choji, 23; Bitrus  Choji, 24; and Daniel Dung, 59, while Stephen Davou, 48, is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The Lawmaker in a statement by his Senior Strategic Media and Communication Adviser, George Lambert, revealed that one of the suspects has been arrested and has made confessional statements revealing the identities of his accomplices.

“We will no longer accept the term ‘unknown gunmen’. One of the perpetrators has been arrested and he has made confessions about those who joined him in carrying out this heinous attack,” Chollom said.

He insisted that the matter must not be treated as routine, stressing that residents of Barkin Ladi and Plateau State deserve transparency and justice.

Chollom called on security agencies to make public the confessions and findings of their investigations, including the identities of suspects and their places of detention, to assure the public that justice is being pursued.

He urged the Plateau State Commissioner of Justice to take over the case and insure diligent prosecution.

“This is not business as usual. The people deserve to know the truth, and those responsible must face the full weight of the law,” he added.

He also held a closed-door meeting with community leaders, youth representatives and elders in Heipang, focusing on strengthening local security and collaboration with security agencies.

He, also, vowed that those behind the attacks would be tracked down and brought to justice.

Factional Nat. Chairman Of APC Emerges As Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi Lays Claim To Position, Threatens Court Action

Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi

By Ayodele Oni

Settling down after a successful national convention, a fresh leadership crisis has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi declared herself the party’s rightful Chairperson.

In a statement on X on Wednesday, Danladi said she plans to approach the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge what she called the “illegitimate structure” currently running the party.

She criticised the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Nentawe Yilwatda, insisting that proper procedures were ignored in its formation.

The statement reads, “I, Alhaja Hafsatu Danladi, hereby assert my position as the true and authentic Chairperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In light of recent developments within the party, I will be approaching the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the legitimacy of the current leadership.

“This action seeks to unseat what I consider an illegitimate structure presently overseeing the affairs of our great party.

“Furthermore, I will be requesting the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discontinue recognition of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Mr. Nentawe Yilwatda.

“This step is necessary to uphold the rule of law, protect the integrity of our party, and ensure that due process is followed in its leadership.”

As of the time of filing this report, neither Nentawe Yilwatda nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had commented on the claims.

Further background check about Alhaja Danladi reveals that before this declaration (as of early 2026), she was a factional figure within the party, who planned to challenge the legitimacy of the then-recognized National Working Committee (NWC) led by Nentawe Yilwatda in the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Her claims to leadership have been described as a “fringe or factional assertion” rather than a mainstream movement within the party.

Ogun 2027: Yayi Warns Supporters Against Premature Campaign Billbords

Senator Olamilekan Adeola - Yayi

By Akinwale Kasali

Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popular as Yayi, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has warned his supporters to refrain from posting Campaign Billboards for his 2027 Ogun State Governorship ambition.

He said he is yet to declare his  ambition, and stressed that he believes in due process. He urged his Supporters to respect his decision.

Yayi, in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro in Abeokuta, said his attention has been drawn to the proliferation of campaign materials in parts of the state by loyalists canvassing support for his possible candidacy.

While expressing appreciation for the show of support and confidence in his leadership capacity, Adeola cautioned that such actions were premature, and stressed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to release its timetable for primaries and campaigns.

He said: “I have been informed of the sighting of billboards and posters erected by supporters and groups in parts of the state soliciting support for my aspiration for Ogun 2027″.

The Senator, however, clarified that he had not formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat, noting that he remained committed to party processes and internal consultations.

“As a loyal party man, fully cognizant of the process and relevant traditions of the progressive family for over three decades, I am yet to declare my intention as I await the timetable of the party and ongoing consultations,” he stated.

Adeola urged his supporters to align with his longstanding political philosophy rooted in grassroots engagement, discipline, and strict adherence to due process.

“Supporters should act in tandem with my tested brand of grassroots politics, which is grounded in due process and respect for laid-down rules,” he added.

He call them to exercise restraint and patience, particularly regarding the timing of political campaigns and public displays of support.

“While I deeply appreciate the time, resources, and commitment of my supporters, I urge them to be guided by extant rules, especially as they relate to the appropriate timing for campaign activities such as billboards and posters,” he said.

He added that he valued their Support and would not take it for granted.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Appeal Against Life Imprisonment Progressing – Counsel, Ejimakor

0
Aloy Ejimakor and Nnamdi Kanu

By Ayodele Oni

Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed that the Court of Appeal has been notified since February about appeal against the decision of the lower Court to convict the IPOB leader.

This, he added, was done through filing of Grounds of Appeal which formally initiating the appellate process.

Ejimakor gave the details in an update on the status and next steps in his client’s appeal at the Court of Appeal in a statement posted on X on Wednesday.

On November 20, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to life imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.

Justice James Omotosho found him guilty on all seven counts, including running a proscribed organization and inciting violence, noting the court’s jurisdiction despite allegations of unlawful rendition.

The Counsel explained that the record of appeal—comprising the charge sheet, proceedings, exhibits, rulings, judgment and sentence—has already been compiled by the registrar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, and transmitted to the Court of Appeal.

According to him, the next stage involves the filing of briefs of argument.

He noted that Kanu’s legal team is expected to file its appellant’s brief within 45 days of receiving the record, outlining arguments across 22 grounds of appeal and seeking to overturn the conviction.

He added that the Federal Government, as respondent, would file its brief within 30 days of being served, after which the defence may submit a reply brief within 14 days if necessary.

Ejimakor said the briefs would form the core of the appeal, with oral arguments at the hearing limited to clarifications, adding that no fresh evidence or witness testimony would be entertained at this stage.

He further stated that once all briefs are filed, the Court of Appeal would fix a hearing date, where a three-member panel of justices would hear arguments from both sides.

Following the hearing, the court is expected to reserve judgment, which may be delivered within weeks or a few months, but not exceeding 90 days.

He outlined possible outcomes of the appeal to include the court allowing the appeal and quashing the conviction, dismissing the appeal and upholding the judgment, or ordering a retrial.

“People should therefore focus on these clear, sequential stages rather than daily rumors or believing that the appeal process will follow the same pattern and procedure seen in the High Court before Justice Omotosho.

“This is the standard, transparent roadmap laid down by Nigerian law, and MNK’s appeal cannot be any different. So, the appeal is progressing exactly as the rules require – one procedural step at a time,” Ejimakor said.
