President Bola  Tinubu has been asked to ensure fairness in the appointment of the Chairman, Federal Character Commission, FCC.

The FCC currently has an Acting Chairman whose appointment as substantive Chairman is yet to be confirmed.

In a letter sent to President Tinubu, the Alliance of Yoruba Democratic Movement, AYDM, a coalition of 130 pan-Yoruba Socio-Cultural  and community-based organizations across the Southwest, Kogi, Kwara and Delta called on  President Tinubu to ensure equity, justice, and fairness in the forthcoming appointment of the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, FCC.

The movement called on the President to give due consideration to the Lagos-Ogun areas which area has never produced the Chairman of the FCC.

Signed by the General Secretary, Comrade Popoola Ajayi and 130 leaders of the coalition, it urged the President to ensure the confirmation of the appointment of the current Acting Chairman, Hon Kayode Oladele.

The Group said the delay in the confirmation already affects the smooth running of the Commission.

The AYDM described Oladele as an icon in the bitter struggle against military rule and someone whose passion for justice, fairness and integrity is well known.

The coalition said Oladele has been consistent as a progressive who suffered greatly under military rule, forced into exile, and has remained in the progressive fold since 1999 when the military was ousted.

AYDM said the appointment of Oladele will add value to the reputation of the government given his credibility and network within the human rights community across Nigeria.

“It is a matter of fact that within the Southwest geopolitical zone, the chairmanship of strategic Federal institutions has been concentrated in particular sub-axes:

Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Commission

Chairman: Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Oyo State) – Oyo/Osun axis

Southwest Development Commission

Chairman: Sen. Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Ekiti State) – Ondo/Ekiti axis

Federal Civil Service Commission

Chairman: Prof. Tunji Olaopa (Oyo State) – Oyo/Osun axis.

AYDM said it is evident that the Oyo/Osun axis and the Ondo/Ekiti axis already have strong representation at the Federal level, leaving out Ogun axis.

AYDM said to appoint another person from Osun State, again from the Oyo/Osun axis, as Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, would amount to marginalizing the Lagos/Ogun axis, thereby violating the principle of fairness entrenched in the Federal Character Commission Act.

“The Lagos/Ogun corridor stands as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse and a crucial driver of national development. Denying this axis equal opportunity for representation not only weakens confidence in the federal character principle but also risks creating discontent among millions who look up to the Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusivity and justice.

“We, therefore, strongly appeal to Mr. President, a leader with a well-known commitment to fairness, equity, and justice, to appoint the next Chairman of the Federal Character Commission from the Lagos/Ogun axis. Doing so will balance representation within the Southwest, strengthen national unity, and reflect the spirit of the law”.

The AYDM and its over 100 affiliate organizations trust that President Tinubu will once again demonstrate his sense of fairness and inclusiveness by heeding this patriotic call.

Atiku May Lose ADC Membership As Party Gives Him  Ultimatum

Atiku Abubakar

By Akinwale Kasali

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Candidate at the 2023 Election has been given an ultimatum by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Adamawa State Chapter, to pick his Membership Card or risk losing recognition as a member of the Party.

Shehu Yohanna, Adamawa State Chairman of the ADC, said the Party has unveiled its membership register, and stressed that only those with valid membership cards would be acknowledged.

In an interview with Punch Newspaper, Yohanna said, “Atiku Abubakar should go to his ward in Jada Local Government and register, Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Federal Government should go to his ward in Hong Local Government and register. That is the only way they can be treated as legitimate members of the party.

“You cannot be taking decisions for a party you are not constitutionally a member of. All of you should register for the greatness of our party.

“It is illegal for someone to hold a leadership position in the party at the national level without being a registered member. That makes a caricature of the party,” Yohanna declared.

It would be recalled that recently, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, had reaffirmed that the Caucus’ resolution was that all Coalition members resign from their current parties and register fully with the ADC—a directive dismissed as inconsequential by both the APC and PDP.

Atiku’s much-publicised membership registration, initially scheduled for August in his hometown of Jada, was suspended indefinitely last month without explanation.

Political observers are of the opinion that the former Vice President is weighing his chances of clinching the ADC’s Presidential ticket, particularly in light of the growing influence of Peter Obi’s political movement within the Party. Speculation is that he is afraid of putting his all his eggs in one basket.

Yohanna, however, dismissed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, as incapable of defeating the ADC in the 2027 general elections.

He added that the ADC boasts politically influential figures and is prepared to wrestle power from the APC administration.

“The unfriendly policies of the present government have paved the way for our party to take over and reposition the country for authentic democracy,” he said.

Aminu Sahabi - EFCC Officer

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The family of the slain Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, Operative, Harisu Aminu Sahabi, has expressed deep shock and surprise over reports that the prime suspect has been granted bail by the Court.

The Source reports that  Sahabi, Assistant Superintendent of the anti-corruption commission,  was allegedly shot at, and killed in Awka, the Anambra State capital by a suspected internet fraudster.

The Sokoto State-born Sahabi was alleged to have been fatally shot during an attempt to effect the arrest of the suspect, one Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, together with others.

At a media briefing in Sokoto, the elder brother of the deceased officer, Lamir Amin, stated that it is disheartening, shocking and disturbing that Ikechukwu, the suspect, has been granted bail, despite the gravity of the offence,as well as the overwhelming evidence of his culpability.

This is as the family said it is suspecting conspiracy and undue influence ,as well as attempts to sweep the matter under the carpet.

The distraught family is, therefore, calling on President Bola Tinubu ,all relevant authorities, particularly the Chief Justice of Nigeria, to wade into  the matter with a view to ensuring that justice is served in the end .

“This is not just a crime against our brother and family, this is a crime against the entire nation, and against the rule of law.

“If those who kill law enforcement agents can walk free, what message are we sending to criminals ,and to the families of those who risk their lives to protect Nigeria.

“We are devastated not only by the tragic ,and senseless murder of our brother, Aminu who was serving his nation with honour ,but also by the apparent miscarriage of justice that is unfolding before of eyes.

“How can a suspect who shot and killed a Federal Law Enforcement Officer in cold blood during an authorized operation be released on bail so casually?, Lamir queried.

The family further called for a  thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the hasty release of the prime suspect through bail.

According to Lamir, such an inquest will expose any possible breach of legal procedures, or abuse of judicial discretion by the presiding officers.

It also demanded for the transfer of the case to a neutral ground for the purpose of guaranteeing fairness and justice.

“We want the prosecution of the suspect Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu ,to the fullest extent of the law so as to serve as deterrent to those who may consider violence against state agents.

“The loss of Aminu has left a permanent scar on our family, but what is more painful is seeing the system he served with dedication fail to protect his memory”, the family lamented.

Akinwunmi Ambode

By Akinwale Kasali

As the 2027 election continue to gather momentum, a Group, Ambode Comeback Crusaders, ACC, has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to consider former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, as the Party’s Candidate for the 2027 Governorship Election in the State.

The Group, in an open letter dated September 28, 2025, and addressed to the APC National Chairman and Lagos State Chairman, Abiodun Fashola,  described Ambode as a proven leader whose first

term in office from 2015 to 2019 delivered an exemplary leadership in Infrastructure, Public Transportation, and Healthcare.

The Group further argued that Ambode’s financial expertise strengthened Lagos as a leading economic hub, while his inclusive approach to  governance positioned him as a leader as a leader who listens to stakeholders and the populace.

“As you deliberate on candidates fir the upcoming election, I urge you to consider the broader implications of Ambode’s second term. His proven track record and vision for the future align seamlessly with APC’s commitment to progress and development,” the letter read in part.

The Group maintained that bringing back Ambode would “propel Lagos into a new era of prosperity and innovation” while reinforcing APC’s image as a party of progress.

The letter was copied to President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other stakeholders in the state.

Ambode was denied the Governorship Ticket in 2019 having succeeded Babatunde Fashola as Governor of Lagos State, with the incumbent Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu given the nod ahead of him.

Having declared his intention to contest for the Governorship election in 2027, many Lagosians have stated their intention to rally round him to get back to the saddle.

Hope rises for indigenous contractors in Kebbi state that had worked for previous administration’s but we’re not paid.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, stated that Governor Nasir Idris assured to pay those with genuine documents, irrespective of political party affiliation.

He said their outstanding debt incurred by the previous administration would be steadily paid to boast their morale.

The governor gave the assurance while playing host to the Association of Indigenous Contractors, who paid a courtesy visit on him in Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

He said: “By the grace of God Almighty, I will do my best to settle your outstanding debts, including those owed by previous administration, provided you have genuine document to prove the debts.

“Every indigenous contractor will be considered irrespective of party affiliation. I want to emphasize that I have been prioritising local contractors in the state and I assure you that I will continue to do so.

“Let me use this medium to thank you for your support right from election up to now. This state is yours and the government is your government, it is a government of the people, by the people and for the people.”

If Abike Were Igbo, Tinubu Would Have Fired Her

0
Abike Dabiri and Steve Osuji

By Steve Osuji

“Would Abike joyously retweet a Twit that describes Yoruba as *monkeys and gorillas?

#abikemustresign”

SHOE IN THE OTHER FOOT: It’s quite predictable what would have happened if Abike Dabiri-Erewa were Igbo. She would have been fired within a week of openly endorsing a most vile tweet  against the Yoruba nation.

If perchance, she escaped the axe, all hell would have been let loose in the media and the public space.

Most newspapers in the land would have penned strong-worded editorials denouncing her and accusing her of deep-seated bigotry. They would unanimously declare her position as a public official, untenable.

A bandwagon effect would have been orchestrated and most columnists would have shafted her all round and most certainly taken off her head.

If Abike Dabiri were Adaobi Daberechi for instance, she would have been history by now almost one month after sanctioning one of the most hateful messages ever put up in the public space ( X ).

She would have honourably resigned or have been sacked by President Bola Tinubu.

She would no longer be sitting comfortably on her perch as Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

She would have been tarred black and red; she would have been held up as the poster woman for bigotry in Nigeria. She would have been vilified and the entire Igbo would have been labelled and stereotyped along with her.

THE FIRING OF HAPLESS CHIDIA MADUEKWE: For instance, just last August, a certain Dr Chidia Maduekwe was brusquely yanked from the Nigerian Council on Climate Change (NCCC) where she was pioneer Director General.

Maduekwe spent barely two months in an agency where she turned the sud, broke the hymen and raised the structures.

It’s okay to disengage an erring official but Nigerians never got to know Maduekwe’s offence. The grape vine however, insinuated that she was too professional for the gang of people who introduced her for the job. She wasn’t front-loading and dispensing the booty as they expected.

Maduekwe was ‘nipped in the bud’ by the ‘franchise’  owners of the agency and was replaced by a certain Ms. Omotenioye Majekodunmi. But Nigerians would never know.

AN AMORAL REGIME. But Abike would never resign. She has neither honour nor such a level of moral rectitude. She lives gaily in a community where right is wrong and wrong is easily made right using lies and propaganda.

From her defiance and indeed brazen defense of her odious action, it’s obvious she has lost every iota of propriety; every sense of right and wrong, good and bad.

Of course the total absence of good sense and basic moral norms have been the hallmark of the Tinubu administration.

History has so recorded this fact and indeed, annotated it quite copiously, one must add.

ABIKE WILL NOT BE SACKED: She knows too well that as long as the sun rises daily, she would never be sacked. She’s part of the inner caucus of a raging Klepto-kakistocracy. Impunity is their handmaiden.

Honourable resignation is, therefore, anathema to her. She’s brusque and banal. And indeed, you have to be negatively bloody-minded to even conjecture fellow humans and a section of your compatriots as “monkeys” and “gorillas.”

Worse, you have to be gross to remain unapologetic and mirthless about an episode that hurts tens of millions of an entire ethnic group so deeply.

What’s she thinking? Of what bilious constitution is her heart that she wouldn’t offer even the most offhanded of an apology or a soft word of contrition?

What manner of person would choose to live with this manner of ignominy for the rest of her life? “The lady who deemed Igbo monkeys and gorillas” would become a fitting headline and epigram someday if this episode gets no salutary closure. How about that?!

Especially so, being a public official. Her refusal to offer nary an olive branch, further spotlights her ingrained disdain for Ndigbo. Let them go jump into the Pacific Ocean for all she cares, she would have told herself in cold-blooded defiance!

She would rather raise an army of hacks to explain a plain situation and more stone-heartedly, to attack anyone who dares to raise his/her voice about what appears to be her deep-seated Igbo paranoia.

In the place of dignified words to fellow compatriots, she doubles down on them; attacking even those who seek an honourable closure on her behalf.

In trying to explain a simple issue presented in basic English grammar, she makes a fool of herself the more and raises question marks as to her eligibility for the sensitive position she occupies.

One would expect an official who daily interfaces with a most sophisticated diasporan community to live and act above board always.

One expects Abike to epitomise the finest cosmopolitan ethos. As an envoy plenipotentiary,  she’s so devoid of such diplomatic etiquette incumbent upon her pristine position.

But on the contrary, Abike assumes a bolekaja (come let’s duel) stance. She assaults the intelligence of right-thinking Nigerians by her childish bluster and fobbing.  But her jejune arguments only diminish her the more.

Now that she’s pigheadedly trampled the Igbo nation, one wonders how she’s gonna face thousands of Igbo Diasporans she must interface with in the line if her job?

One last question for Abike: in all her superficial and empty defence: would she select the laughter emojis and strike her screen eighteen (18) times if the offending tweet had labelled Yoruba as monkeys and gorillas?

As the sages of yore would say,  it’s sometimes nice that the wind blows enough that we may espy the nakedness of the hen.

It’s said that you can’t hide or disguise a hateful heart. So it’s just as well that this little gust of wind has revealed the nakedness of Abike’s hen.#

“I Was Severally Marked For Elimination In The Last One Year” – Amaewfule,  Speaker RSHA

0
Martin Amaewhule

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Martins Amaewfule, has said  he is grateful to God for sparing his life despite several human attempts to eliminate him.

At the occasion of the thanksgiving service to mark his 52nd birthday held at the All Saints Anglican Church, Eliozu, Obio/Akpor Local Council of the State, Amaewfule relieved several attempts at kidnapping and assassinating him in the past years.

Particularly, the Speaker, who alongside 27 other State Lawmakers just returned from a six-month suspension, owing to the Emergency Rule imposed on the State, recounted how  he survived an assassination plot in 2008.

“I am not just marking another birthday, but acknowledging that many people had planned to take my life in the last one year, but God didn’t allow them .

“Some of you were here in 2008 when the officiating Minister was preaching right here during Sunday Service,on that faithful day.

” I didn’t know that some people who came to kidnap me  were also present during the church service.

” After Service, they tactically followed me to my residence, tied up my security guard and abducted me, and took me to a forest where they held me hostage for five days .

“They placed thorns under my feet ,and inflicted several injuries on my head and body in the process of moving me from one hideout to another within the forest.

“They fed me with biscuits throughout the period even as I almost bled to death. When God does things for you, it is important to appreciate him for more”, Amaewfule stated.

According to him, his life has, in the past one year been in danger, owing to some obvious reasons.

But in all, he said he remains grateful to God for seeing him through the near-death situations.

The Source reports that Amaewfule, an acknowledged crony of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, was a central figure in the political brickbats that culminated in the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State, by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025. It was lifted on September 18, 2025.
