ADC Eyes Jonathan As Presidential Flagbearer; His Chance Against Tinubu

Some powerful leaders in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, are reaching out to former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the presidency in 2027, according to the Nigerian Tribune, which quoted different sources.

Apart from Jonathan, those planning to secure the ADC presidential ticket include, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, among others.

According to the newspaper, the party is prepared to cede its sole presidential ticket to the former Nigerian leader once he makes up his mind to join the race. Sources who spoke, are however worried of his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under which he served as Nigeria’s president for six years, between 2009 and 2015.

A source close to both the former president and the ADC told the newspaper  on Friday that the former president is seriously considering running in the coming presidential polls.

The source confirmed that key figures in the ADC were comfortable with having Jonathan as their presidential candidate and had, in fact, reached out to him.

He, however, said the former president was torn between his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “which made him” and the ADC which, he said, had the potential of winning the election if it gets the right candidate.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan is worried that certain persons with strong links to the Villa may still be in control of the PDP and may mess him up if he seeks the ticket of that party,” the source said.

He added that Jonathan’s only issue with the ADC is that “he does not want to contest against Peter Obi because he believes that the Igbo people supported him in 2015 even more than his own Ijaw people.”

While saying emphatically that Jonathan would run except he could not find a platform, the source added that “if he chooses our party (ADC), we will zone the presidency to the South. If he does not come to us, we will have no option than to go to the North because politics is about numbers and winning.”

Jonathan left office in 2015, after he was defeated by the late President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and has since distanced himself from active politics and from his party, the PDP, as he no ,longer attend the party’s meetings.

Instead, the former leader who has been globally adjudged as a statesman for voluntarily relinquishing power, has busied himself by  playing mediatory roles as the representatives of African Union and other world bodies, in some countries facing political turmoil.

The magazine however reported that some elements in the PDP are planning to bring hi into the race against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election. The former Bayelsa state governor has yet to speak on the issue publicly even though, those who know him clsoely insist that he’s consulting with who who is who in the country.

His recent visit to former military leader, Gen Ibrahim Banbangia (rtd.), some say is part of the ongoing consultations to get the support of those that matter in the country.

Meanwhile, the ruling APC said on Friday that the Jonathan 2027 Project is a wild goose chase by those behind it, saying it would result to nothing as he cannot defeat President Tinubu.

When Brilliance Is Mocked: The ₦200,000 Reward That Shamed Nigeria

By Lamara Garba Azare

“The insult was sharper because just weeks earlier, the Federal Government had given $100,000 (N160million), each, to athletes who returned victorious from Continental Tournaments”

In the theatre of nations, where countries display what they value most, Nigeria once again played the wrong script. On the 28th of August, 2025, the Federal Government stood before the world and, with fanfare, announced a ₦200,000 cash reward for Nafisa Abdullahi, a 17-year-old girl from Yobe State, who had just conquered the globe at the TeenEagle Global English Championship in London.

It should have been a moment of national pride  the triumph of intellect, the victory of knowledge, the vindication that Nigerian children, though raised in broken classrooms with tattered textbooks, can still outshine peers from nations where education is richly funded. Instead, the moment was reduced to farce.

The prize was ₦200,000. Not a scholarship. Not a lifelong educational support package. Not even a promise of sustained recognition. Just ₦200,000  money that vanishes before the ink on a bank teller’s slip dries. And shamelessly, the same government invited the girl and her parents to travel all the way from Damaturu to Abuja for the presentation. Anyone who knows the realities of transportation, accommodation, and feeding on such a trip will realise that the ₦200,000 reward barely covers the expenses of the journey itself. By the time they return to Yobe, how much of the so-called “national honour” will be left? This is not recognition. This is mockery.

The insult was sharper because of what came before. Just weeks earlier, the same government gave $100,000 each over ₦160 million  to Nigerian athletes who returned victorious from Continental tournaments. Sportsmen celebrated like kings, while a girl who carried Nigeria’s flag through intellect was treated like a beggar appeased with coins. This contrast is not just unfair. It is a scandal. It is a window into the soul of a government that speaks loftily of education but starves it in practice.

Sports have their place. Football unites nations; athletes inspire. But is it not education that sustains nations long after the cheers in the stadium fade? When Nigeria gave ₦160 million to footballers, it was hailed as generosity. When Nigeria gave ₦200,000 to Nafisa, it exposed a tragic hierarchy of values: here, knowledge is cheap. Here, intellect is disposable. Here, the very foundation of progress is treated as an afterthought.

₦200,000 in today’s Nigeria barely covers a semester’s tuition in a private university. It cannot buy a modest laptop and a year’s reliable internet. It cannot even cover the travel expenses for Nafisa to attend the very competition she conquered, had sponsors not intervened. Meanwhile, ₦160 million is enough to pay for a PhD at Harvard, buy a house in Abuja, and still have funds left to establish a scholarship foundation. This is not about envying athletes. It is about exposing the imbalance in our governance. Why is brawn valued more than brain? Why is intellect seen as unworthy of investment?

This ₦200,000 reward is not just a mistake; it is a philosophy — the philosophy of spectacle over substance. Governments love the visibility of sports victories: stadiums roar, cameras flash, politicians clap. Intellectual triumphs, by contrast, are quieter, less glamorous, and less “profitable” politically. So they are dismissed with tokenism. Yet, it is ideas, not athletics, that build civilizations. Japan rose from the ashes of war not through football, but through science and education. South Korea transformed from poverty to prosperity by grooming engineers, doctors, and innovators. Singapore became a global giant by making education sacred. Nigeria, however, prefers medals to minds, applause to intellect, noise to knowledge.

Imagine if Nafisa’s victory had been met with a life-changing scholarship perhaps to study at one of the world’s leading universities. Imagine if the government had created an “Intellectual Heroes Fund” to support students who conquer global competitions. Imagine if the President himself had hosted her in Aso Rock and told every Nigerian child watching: See what books can do. This is the path to greatness. Instead, Nafisa received ₦200,000  less than what a minister might spend on a single lunch. Her victory, which could have been a rallying point for millions of children, was reduced to a footnote in the news.

Nafisa’s story is not just about her. It is a metaphor for the Nigerian child. In every rural school where pupils sit under leaking roofs, in every city classroom where teachers go unpaid for months, the same message echoes: education is not valued here. How many brilliant youths have fled abroad with their talents because at home they were mocked with crumbs? How many have settled for mediocrity because their society told them that brains don’t matter? When the government presented ₦200,000 to Nafisa, it was not just a gift. It was a signal  loud and clear that excellence in education is worth less than a handshake.

Nigerians, long used to disappointment, still found this too much to swallow. Social media exploded with outrage. One father wrote online: “My daughter saw this story and asked me, Daddy, is it better to be a footballer than to be intelligent? I had no answer.” That is the damage done  not just the insult to Nafisa, but the discouragement of millions of children who now see that the path of books leads only to mockery.

Elsewhere in the world, intellectual triumphs are immortalized. Pakistan rallied behind Malala Yousafzai, and today she is a Nobel laureate. India celebrates its top students with scholarships and mentorship. Rwanda invests heavily in its brightest minds. Nigeria, by contrast, splashes billions on politicians’ allowances and football banquets, but offers mere tokens to its intellectual heroes.

This is bigger than Nafisa. It is about the soul of Nigeria. A country that trivializes education cannot develop. A country that rewards muscle over mind will remain trapped in mediocrity. A country that mocks brilliance will drive its best and brightest away. What is needed is not token cash rewards but a shift in philosophy a recognition that investing in education is not charity but national survival.

And yet, Nafisa’s victory must not be lost in the scandal. Despite the mockery of ₦200,000, she remains a shining light. She has proven that Nigerian children can rise above poverty and neglect to shine before the world. Her triumph must inspire, not depress. Let every child know: your worth is not determined by the crumbs offered by government. Knowledge is priceless. Brilliance is its own reward.

In the end, it is Nigeria, not Nafisa, that has been shamed. A nation that rewards genius with peanuts has revealed its poverty of vision. But history is clear: nations that neglect education collapse under ignorance, while those that nurture it rise to greatness. One day, Nigeria will remember that it once mocked brilliance with ₦200,000 and perhaps by then, it will understand the true cost of its shame.

2027: “Goodluck” Will Fail Jonathan- APC

1
Goodluck Jonathan
Goodluck Jonathan

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan stands no chance against the incumbent, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.

The Lagos chapter of the APC said on Friday that the country was no longer what it was when the former Nigerian leader was in office, and “Goodluck” cannot secure him the office of Commander-in-chief, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports the state spokesman of APC, Seye Oladejo, as saying in a statement on Friday.

The APC spokesman said though Jonathan has become a statesman after voluntarily quitting power in 2015, the former president should not try to dabble into active politics by contesting the next presidential election, adding that despite the accolades he has won for himself, his administration also left behind  “severe structural weaknesses, from unchecked corruption to alarming insecurity and economic inertia.”

He stressed that Jonathan will be roundly defeated if he treid to run for the country’s highst office.

“While we acknowledge the former president’s role in the peaceful democratic transition of 2015, an act that rightly earned him praise at home and abroad, we must state, in clear terms, that Nigeria has since moved beyond the politics of sentiment, nostalgia, and symbolism,” Oladejo said.

“The challenges of today and the future require bold, capable, and forward-thinking leadership, not a return to the comfort of a past that was far from perfect.

“Let it be clear: good luck alone is not a governance strategy,” he said.

Oladejo alleged that the Jonathan administration, from 2010 to 2015, left behind a country grappling with severe structural weaknesses, from unchecked corruption to alarming insecurity and economic inertia.

“While some may look back on those years with rose-tinted glasses, we must remind ourselves that nostalgia is not a policy platform.

“Emotion cannot drive economic reform, and sentimentality will not fix power generation, insecurity, youth unemployment, or education sector decay,” the APC chieftain said.

Oladejo said that the party also noted the constitutional and political complications of a potential Jonathan candidacy.

According to him, having completed more than one term in office, any return bid will inevitably trigger legal contention and political instability — distractions Nigeria cannot afford in a time when decisive action is needed across all sectors of national life.

“Moreover, the former president’s political relevance has been complicated by his recent engagements across party lines.

“His flirtation with the APC and absence from PDP’s strategic rebuilding efforts raise questions about his loyalty, clarity of vision, and political intentions,” he said.

According to him, the APC remains focused on consolidating progress, implementing reforms, and engaging the Nigerian electorate with fresh ideas and credible candidates who reflect the aspirations of a dynamic, youthful population.

“We believe the future of Nigeria does not lie in recycled leadership but in visionary governance rooted in integrity, innovation, and resilience.

“Former President Jonathan remains a respected elder statesman. His legacy as a peaceful democrat is assured. But legacies are not manifestoes, and nostalgia is not governance.

“We urge Nigerians to reject emotional shortcuts and stay focused on the need for capable, accountable and transformative leadership.

“As 2027 approaches, let us not reach backwards in desperation, but move forward with courage and clarity,” the APC spokesman stated.

The magazine reports that some supporters of the former president, including the Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed have been trying to drag the former leader into the race.

Notedly, the Bauchi helmsman, who is said to be nursing a presidential ambition had said recently that he was prepared to drop out for the former president, once he decides to run.

By Ayodele Oni

As reforms in education sector commences in Katsina State, Government has announced the revocation of the operational licences of all private and community schools across the state with immediate effect.

This was contained in a circular issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, and released to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Sani Danjuma.

“The ministry hereby notifies the public, proprietors and administrators of all private and community schools that all previously issued licences have been terminated effective August 13, 2025,” she stated.

According to the commissioner, the decision followed the approval of the State Executive Council as part of ongoing reforms in the education sector.

The commissioner explained that the reforms were aimed at ensuring quality assurance, standardization and effective regulation of teaching and learning across the state.

She pointed out that the action was in line with the state’s new policy on private and community schools, which was presented to stakeholders at a sensitization meeting on June 2, 2025.

The commissioner said the reforms were aimed at ensuring quality assurance, standardization and effective regulation of teaching and learning across the state.

She added that all affected schools must reapply for fresh licences, noting that revised fees for application, registration, annual renewal and school upgrade had already been approved by the government.

“All receipts for new applications and registration must be submitted to the Department of Private and Community Schools.

“Payments are to be made strictly into the Katsina State Treasury Single Account on or before September 30, 2025,” Musa-Musawa said.

The commissioner warned school proprietors against arbitrary fee increases, stressing that no school should adjust tuition without the explicit approval of the ministry.

She further disclosed that details of school categorisations and the breakdown of revised fees would be communicated to the National Association of Proprietors of Private and Community Schools.

Musa-Musawa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening supervision and accountability, saying the reforms were designed to secure the future of children in Katsina by upholding global best practices in education delivery.

The police command said the recovered items would be displayed at its headquarters to help identify the rightful owners.

Fubara To Return 18th September As Governor, Day Emergency Rule Ends – Wike

By Ayodele Oni

I do know that by September 18, the State of Emergency will end and the State Assembly will come back to their job”

The State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu will come to an end on 18th September 2025. As from that day, the State’s democratic structures will be restored and elected State officials will go back to their jobs.

This was disclosed by the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He spoke to Journalists after he cast his vote in the State’s Local Government Election Saturday, 30th August, 2025.

He told them after he voted at his Polling Unit 007, Ward 9 (Rumuepirikom Kingdom), Obio/Akpor that: ”I do know that by September 18, the State of Emergency will expire and the State Assembly will come back to their job and we will have a Government at the grassroots level.”

The Minister also applauded the turn our at the Council polls and said it was very successful.

However, the general opinion contradicts Wike assessment as the turn out was considered low.

Late arrival of election materials and low voter turnout delayed its commencement   at some Voting Centres.

As of 10:12 a.m., election materials were yet to arrive at several polling units in the ward such as Woji Ward 6, Obio/Akpor Area.

Other Polling units affected include Units 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 15, 29 and 30, where accreditation had not commenced and only a few voters were seen waiting to cast their ballots.

Wike was among early voters that turned up for the  poll.

He said: “As far as we are concerned, this election is peaceful, people are trooping out and at the end of the day the election has been conducted successfully and peacefully.

“The coast is clear for the state of emergency to be lifted, being that the state government has its representative and the local government has its representatives, so we are good to go.”

Some voters and party agents were seen discussing the situation while awaiting the arrival of materials. There was no visible presence of security personnel at the polling units.

A voter at Polling Unit 29, Kingsley Amadi, said he arrived early but was still waiting for election materials.

Amadi, however, expressed optimism for a smooth and transparent process despite the delay and attributed the low turnout to the political crisis that preceded the election.

Another voter, who simply identified herself as Oroma, said she was confident that the process would reflect the will of the people.

Some traders and shop owners in Obio/Akpor area of the state opened for business in defiance of the State Government’s  no-movement directive during the elections.

They cited economic hardship and survival concerns as reasons for opening their businesses despite the ban.

The Rivers Government had earlier declared a 12-hour no-movement order across the state’s 23 Local Government Areas (LGA).

The restriction is intended to ensure the smooth conduct of elections to fill chairmanship and councillorship positions across the LGAs.

Despite the order, it was observed that some shops and roadside stalls were open, with traders attending to customers while the election was underway.

The Chairmanship and Councillorship election is being conducted across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

Recall that President Tinubu, on March 18, 2025, declared a State of Emergency in the State over a political crisis between Wike/ the House of Assembly on one side, and the Governor on the other side, for an initial period of six months. He suspended, from office, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, Dr. Ngozi Ordu, and Members of the State House of Assembly.

To oversee the affairs of the State, Tinubu appointed a retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator.

Ibas went ahead to dissolve all other political structures including Commissions and Boards. Earlier elected Local Council Officials were also sacked  by the Supreme Court, and Ibas sacked the Rivers State Electoral Commission. A new one which conducted Saturday’s election was constituted amidst protests from many quarters which were of the opinion that only an elected Governor has the constitutional powers to conduct the election. It ended up at the Supreme Court which, a few days ago, ruled that the Election, under Ibas, should go on.

Aisha Yesufu, Charly Boy Lash Deji Adeyanji Over Peter Obi, Asks Him For   Evidence

Peter Obi and Deji Adeyanju

By Akinwale Kasali

Human Rights Activists, Aisha Yesufu and Charles Oputa, popular as Charly Boy have lashed Deji Adeyanju for accusing Peter Obi of corruption allegations. Both dismiss it as false.

Yesufu has, however, called on Adeyanju to present the evidence he claims to have against the former Anambra State Governor and 2027 Presidential hopeful, Obi.

Aisha Yesufu
Aisha Yesufu

Yesufu, a vocal and ardent supporter of Obi, said she and many other Nigerians would not support a fraudulent politician. She  welcomed the Court case Obi has filed against Adeyanju and looks forward to seeing the alleged proof Adeyanju claims he has.

Adeyanju, a lawyer, activist and social commentator, recently accused Peter Obi  of being a fraud, a manipulator, and a religious bigot.

These claims have sparked outrage and debate on social media, with many Obi supporters dismissing them as false and politically motivated.

Adeyanju has repeated his claims in multiple posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), insisting that Obi is not the honest leader many believe him to be.

He also dared the former Labour Party Presidential Candidate to sue him so he could present his evidence.

Reacting to Adeyanju’s claim of having evidence against the former Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2019, Yesufu says, “Barrister Deji Adeyanju has repeatedly said that he has evidence to show that Mr. Peter Obi is a fraud. As a supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, I am interested in the evidence the Barrister has. I would not be one to give support to anyone that is fraudulent.

Charley Boy
Charly Boy

“This case will offer me and millions of others the opportunity to have access to the evidence Barrister Deji has so we know whether to continue our support for Mr. Peter Obi or withdraw it.”

She praised Obi’s decision to seek redress in court rather than using State Security agencies to silence his critic.

“Mr. Peter Obi going to court is the civil thing to do. Where one is defamed, especially from a lawyer, then one should go to court.”

“If Mr. Peter Obi had used the machinery of the State to get Barrister Deji arrested and thrown into jail like many of the dictators we fight are doing, then I would be leading a #FreeDejiAdeyanju campaign and calling out Mr. Peter Obi.”

In the same vein, Charly Boy in a statement posted on X expressed his anger at Adeyanju’s claims that Obi tried to bribe him during the 2023 Presidential Election campaign.

According to Adeyanju, Obi allegedly invited him to a meeting, during which he offered him money in a brown envelope, which Adeyanju claimed to have rejected.

However, Charly Boy quickly dismissed these allegations, labeling them as false and irresponsible.

He accused Adeyanju of spreading lies to gain attention and please his “paymasters,” a phrase often used to refer to those who allegedly sell their principles for financial gain.

“Deji Adeyanju, na wa for you o! You don carry ya mouth waka go where e no belong. Na so so lie lie and yeye talk you dey yarn about Peter Obi, just to trend and please ya paymasters,” Charly Boy wrote, using Pidgin in his post.

He also criticized Adeyanju for turning himself into an “errand boy” for what he described as “chop money politics” – a phrase commonly used to refer to the politics of greed and self-interest.

“Obi na man wey still get small conscience for this obodo wey don spoil finish. Na him still dey give millions of Nigerians hope say beta Nigeria dey possible,” Charly Boy said.

He also added that Adeyanju was only chasing clout, seeking attention by attacking Obi.

Charly Boy emphasized that no one should be allowed to tarnish Obi’s reputation with baseless accusations, especially when there was no evidence to back up Adeyanju’s claims.

He also warned Adeyanju that his “reckless and irresponsible behavior” could lead to legal consequences.

“If you no get respect, at least get small sense. This ya reckless and irresponsible behavior fit make you chop legal breakfast,” Charly Boy cautioned, referencing possible legal action that could follow the defamatory claims.

Ike Abonyi, a Journalist, has also dismissed Adeyanju’s claims that Obi offered him money as false. Abonyi in a statement said he was present at the meeting Obi had with Adeyanju and wondered where and how Obi offered Adeyanju a brown envelope which he rejected. Abonyi, who expressed shock at Adeyanju’s claims said: “These are lies from the pit of hell.”

“As A Christian, A Journalist, I Can No Longer Stand Deji Adeyanju’s Lies Against Obi”

0
Ike Abonyi and Deji Adeynajiu

By Ike Abonyi

“Deji Adeyanju’s fallacy on Obi cannot stand because I was at the meeting, I was present”

It would be unfair to my conscience as a Christian and a Journalist to allow Deji Adeyanju to continue with his false narrative in the name of activism on Peter Obi.

Sometime in July 2022, ahead of the 2023 general election, and Peter Obi had picked the Labour Party Presidential ticket, Adeyanju was one of his ardent supporters and was contemplating running under the Labour Party for the AMAC seat in the House of Representatives.

As a friend of Deji and Obi, I decided to broker a meeting as I was contemplating Deji getting a waiver to pick the House of Rep ticket.

At the meeting, I went with Deji, and the three of us sat discussing. Obi narrated his political journey, nothing new from what he already related in the public space, and Deji also told his life story, how her mother has been very impactful in his life.

The issue of running for election came up and Obi said there will be no problem.

We left about three hours of frank talk. Nothing was offered either in monetary terms or as a physical gift. In fact, except for our telephone, we took nothing to the place.

A few weeks later, Deji was quoted as saying that Obi came to offer him money, but he refused, and that Obi told him he invested in the family business as a Governor.

I didn’t know what caused the sudden fabrication, whether he was expecting Obi to have offered something, and was disappointed it didn’t come. I couldn’t make sense out of it. I called Deji and wanted to know if he met with Obi after our meeting and he kept mum.

I was forced to issue a statement, then to clarify the issue. (Find the 2022 statement attached and can be found in Google as ” (it’s a lie from the pit of hell, Abonyi replies Adeyanju over comment on Obi)

I, therefore, still find it necessary to restate the story of what happened and to express disappointment that someone I call a friend should go on such a voyage of blackmail blatantly.

In 2022, when this happened, Deji was not yet a lawyer but a student. I had thought that after being a lawyer, called to the Nigerian bar at such an adult age to fight and defend truth and justice, Deji should not indulge in this type of fallacy and should appreciate why a person like Obi will do anything to defend his hard-earned reputation.

I will therefore urge Deji to strive to be honourable and follow the path of truth if he hopes to grow in the legal profession.

My 2022 Statement On Deji Adeyanju’s Lies

“It is a lie from the pit of hell that Obi gave you money and you refused. You are a big liar, I was there  with you”

A renowned journalist and prolific writer, Ike Abonyi has replied to a social media influencer, Deji Adeyanju over his comments against the presidential candidate, Peter Obi

Adeyanju just tweeted that he stopped supporting Obi when he told him that he invested Anambra state money in his family business. He equally said that Obi offered him money, but he refused to collect it based on his alleged views on Obi.

But responding to the allegation, Abonyi wrote to Adeyanju and said,  “I am at pains joining issues with a friend in public but at this instance, I cannot keep mum and allow untruths to thrive”.

Writing further, he said, “My friend Deji Adeyanju just tweeted that why he stopped supporting the Labour Party, Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, was when he told him that he invested Anambra state money in his family business”.

According to his statements, “I was at the meeting Deji had with Obi and was there all through and left with him after about three hours of frank discussion of Obi telling his life story in and out of government, none of which is new as he had said similar things repeatedly in public. I was shocked to my marrow reading from Deji what I did not hear.

“In my shock today, July 26, 2022, after reading the post, I wrote this to him -“Deji, Did you and Obi meet again or the one I was present. Haba! Deji, I’m shocked, you are free to support whoever without all these funny blackmails. You didn’t even factor my friendship with you”, Abonyi added.

Narrating, Abonyi said, “On July 9, 2022, after a similar negative post on Obi that he can accept an appointment from the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, I had again written to Deji”

“My brother, good morning, when did it get to this point? Am still in shock. Obi is not looking for a job that Tinubu will be offering. As my friend even, if you no longer believe in the Obi project, I encourage you to stay on issues that will enhance your own reputation.”

“Deji has not responded to any of my posts to him and has not picked up my calls. I had wanted us to resolve it as friends without my coming out publicly by urging him to withdraw his posts because they are not based on facts. As a journalist of long standing and as a Christian, I don’t need to be an Obi-centric person to resolve issues that border on facts and falsity. No money was offered during or after the meeting, and there was no promise of any to the best of the knowledge.

“Deji is on record several times as having declared Obi to be the best candidate and had publicly encouraged Obi to leave PDP to seek his ambition on another platform.

“He is also free to do a U-turn in supporting him, depending on what appeals to him, but should not base that on what is not true.”

The Ondo State Police Command has announced the arrest of 100 suspects in the month of August linked with various crimes.

The suspects are linked with crimes ranging from kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of substances suspected to be hard drugs,  fraud/obtaining under false pretense, theft / stealing, receiving stolen property and vandalization.

Briefing Journalists in Akure on Friday, the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, stated that the Ondo State Police Command has continued to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and professionalism in safeguarding the lives and property of our citizens.

Among those arrested is a suspected fraudster who orchestrated a ₦10 million scam in the Oloko area of Akure.

According to the Commissioner,  “The suspect, with a deceptive scheme, lured his unsuspecting victim under the pretense of selling scrap materials.

“Believing the transaction to be genuine, the victim paid the sum of ₦10million, only to later discover that the deal was fraudulent and the so-called scrap materials non-existent.

“Following a detailed investigation, the Command’s operatives tracked down the suspect and secured his arrest. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime and further revealed that he acted in concert with an accomplice who is based in Lagos.

“In a swift response, the Command has already taken proactive steps to freeze the illicitly obtained funds, thereby preventing further dissipation of the victim’s hard-earned money.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the Lagos-based accomplice and bring all those connected with the crime to justice.”

Also being held is an 87 years old Chief Kogbona, an alleged arms supplier to a gang of robbers from whom ten live cartridges were recovered.

“Operatives of the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad (TIRS) cracked a chilling case of armed robbery and murder in Ondo town. A young motorcyclist, Nwike Sabbat (25yrs), was brutally killed and his motorcycle snatched.

“Swift police action led to the arrest of three suspects—Adeife Adewumi ‘M’, Matthew Johnson ‘M’, and Diisu Sunday ‘M’—who all confessed to the crime. Recovered exhibits include two cut-to-size barrel guns, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.”

Lawal also disclosed that officers of the Command have clamped down on vehicles without registration numbers and those using fake plate numbers.

“The Command recently launched a special operation targeting the illegal possession and use of vehicles and motorcycles in the commission of crimes.

“This proactive measure has yielded commendable results. So far, the following recoveries have been made:

Five cars whose chassis/VIN numbers had been tampered with; One vehicle bearing a fake/unauthorized NANS plate number; One  stolen spy police number plate, previously used in conveying illicit drugs and One official government plate number, illegally used for transporting contraband.

Others are “Six  unregistered vehicles; several other vehicles without valid registration or proper documentation.

This operation has dealt a heavy blow to criminal elements who rely on stolen or unauthorized vehicles to perpetrate crimes.”
