Coup: ADC Exposes FG’s Plan To Crack Down On Opposition

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has warned the federal government not to use the recent reported coup in the country as an excuse to clamp down on the opposition. The ADC however condemned the alleged coup and any attempt to destroy the nation’s democratic rule.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi made the remark in a statement on Monday, saying the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration may be tempted to use the alleged coup plot to attack those who disagree with his government.

According to the party’s spokesperson, the administration should not use national security to exert political capital on dissenting voices in the country, saying it’s worrying that authorities in the country are making discordance tunes over the alleged coup plot.

Below, the ADC statement:

“The ADC has been closely monitoring the reports of an alleged coup plot involving arrested military officers and subsequent media claims that a former southern governor is under investigation for allegedly funding the suspects. While we vehemently oppose any effort to undermine Nigeria’s constitutional order, we are equally concerned about the potential misuse of such allegations to justify political witch-hunts, suppress dissent, or manipulate public sentiment.

“We are particularly concerned about the conflicting signals coming from government sources, especially as the Defence Headquarters has publicly denied ever mentioning a coup plot, despite widespread media reports to the contrary. Such inconsistency raises serious fears that the coup narrative may have been politically engineered.

“The ADC is particularly concerned that the federal government has not deemed it fit to make a categorical statement on this very serious matter, especially after the military authorities had repeatedly denied that there was such a threat to the government. By keeping quiet, the government has deliberately allowed the coup story to fester for whatever reason.

“What is clear, however, is that the government is exploiting the coup story to divert attention from the real issues of misgovernance in the country and to curry sympathy. Even more significantly, subsequent unattributed media reports purportedly implicating unnamed politicians in the so-called plot now provide a pretext for the government to clamp down on opposition figures or mount undue surveillance on them.

“We understand that the APC government is desperate. But such desperation must never be allowed to endanger our democracy or undermine the democratic rights of citizens.

“The ADC therefore calls on the federal government to immediately clarify the true nature of the alleged coup. Government has a duty to decisively quash the swirling rumour. Conversely, if indeed there has been any such threat to national security, the government has a duty to be transparent about it and brief the nation accordingly.

“Government must desist from weaponising national security as a pretext to silence opposition and political dissent.
The ADC is resolute in its opposition to dictatorship of any form, whether military dictatorship or its civilian variant. We therefore support any legitimate action that may be taken in defence of our constitution and our democracy. In the same vein, we oppose any ploy by the government to intimidate legitimate voices under the guise of national security.”

The magazine reports that some military personnel were arrested recently by the federal government over an alleged coup plot against President Tinubu.

PDP Insists Nat. Secretary, Anyanwu Personally Signed Letter Informing INEC About Convention

Senator Samuel Anyanwu

By Ayodele Oni

National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that the national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu personally signed the letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), announcing the party’s forthcoming November national convention.

The party refuted claims of “signature forgery” that were brought forward by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC at a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba asserted that Anyanwu personally signed several official letters, including the notification sent to INEC about the PDP’s convention, which is scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP insisted that the documents were signed just hours before the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting held on August 25, and this signing occurred in the presence of state governors, NWC members and others.

Ologunagba specified that the signing took place in the presence of key PDP figures, including:

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal

Former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, “among others.”

Furthermore, Ologunagba noted that at the subsequent NEC meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed, who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed that all relevant letters, including the one to INEC, had been duly signed.

Anyanwu had written to both INEC and the relevant security agencies, disclaiming the document and insisting that his signature was criminally forged.

In a strongly worded letter dated October 15, 2025, and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chairman of INEC, Anyanwu said he neither signed nor authorized any correspondence relating to the planned convention.

“My attention has been drawn to the above titled official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol. 1M/25 – 140 dated Monday, August 25, 2025 purportedly signed by me.

“Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorized or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged/cloned version of my signature on the letter

“I therefore, request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted.”

Ondo: Eight Years After, Retirees Get N2.396 Billion For Gratuity

Payment of Ondo retiree

By Ayodele Oni

Hope rises for Retirees in Ondo state between 2018 till date as a new set of senior citizens between 2016 and 2017 start to receive their gratuities.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday, brightened the faces of hundreds of retired civil servants as he flagged off the bulk payment of ₦2.396 billion gratuity arrears to 2016 and 2017 retirees in the state service.

The event, held in Akure, marked another major fulfilment of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s promise to clear the backlog of pension and gratuity arrears inherited by his administration.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ebenezer Adeniyan said the Governor described the exercise as a continuation of a deliberate and well-thought-out policy to ensure that every retiree receives benefits in a fair and transparent manner.

The Governor pointed out that the disbursement was not a coincidence, but a product of consistent planning, coming barely a week after his government paid over ₦1.4 billion to local government and primary school retirees.

“This is a culmination of our administration’s sincerity of purpose and unwavering resolve to honour men and women who gave their strength, intellect and years of service to the development of Ondo State.”

The Governor explained that his administration adopted the “year of exit” method as the sole criterion for gratuity qualification to eliminate bias and confusion in the process.

According to him, retirement is not an end, but a dignified transition that deserves honour, fairness, and respect.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners, the Governor said, “We are resolutely committed to clearing all backlog of gratuity obligations.

“Our retirees deserve empathy, honour, and respect. This is not an act of favour; it is a moral and constitutional duty we hold dear.”

He recalled that since assuming office, his government had released ₦180 million monthly to defray gratuity arrears, while ensuring regular payment of pensions at both state and local government levels.

He highlighted other welfare strides of his administration, including the payment of ₦2.236 billion to 2015 retirees; a ₦30,000 monthly allowance for pensioners as fuel subsidy support; installation of solar-powered streetlights and road beautification; digital infrastructure investments; and the O’Datiwa Metering Programme, which has installed over 15,000 meters in less than a year.

While expressing appreciation to labour leaders, pension administrators and senior citizens for their patience and cooperation, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed that his administration would remain people-oriented and responsive to the welfare of residents, especially during economic hardship.

He urged retirees to enrol in the Ondo State Health Insurance Scheme for accessible healthcare, stressing that “health is the foundation of happiness and longevity.”

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ondo State chapter,  Johnson Osuyemi, expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for his consistent efforts in addressing the welfare and financial concerns of pensioners.

Osuyemi said members had remained optimistic since the inception of the administration, noting that the governor  demonstrated genuine commitment to easing the burdens of retirees.

He recalled how some pensioners were once at the brink of collapse due to unpaid benefits, adding that the monthly stipends being released by the state had become a lifeline for many.

Sowore Says No Protester Hit By Live Bullet During #FreeNnamdiKanu Rally

Sowore on Free Nnamdi Kano Protest

By Ayodele Oni

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has confirmed that no protester  was hit by the live bullets fired by security agents during Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu rally protest.

He also confirmed that “There were about 10 trucks that arrived as soon as we started the protest. There was no provocation on our part, like we had promised; it was an orderly and peaceful protest.

He accused security operatives of launching an unprovoked attack on peaceful protesters during the #FreeNnamdiKanu rally in Abuja.

Sowore, who spoke on Channels Television, alleged that security forces opened fire shortly after the protest began at the front of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

He also confirmed that some individuals were arrested during the incident, including Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother and his lawyer, who were allegedly beaten before being taken to the Nigeria Police Force FCT Command.

“Eventually, they did arrest some people. I heard Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother was arrested and beaten, and his lawyer was also arrested and beaten. “They’ve all been taken to the FCT Command.

“Suddenly, from nowhere, they started shooting at us, tear gas, and some live bullets were fired. Luckily, I don’t think anybody was hit with live bullets, but they were just shooting all around us,” he said.

The human rights activist also alleged that a combined team of the police, army, and civil defence personnel carried out the operation.

FreeNnamdiKanuNow:  Senator Shehu Sani Justifies Escape By Protesters From Police Bullet

Senator Sani Sheu on Sowore

By Ayodele Oni

Senator Shehu Sani on his Facebook page wrote that “Running away during protest is not an act of cowardice. Its a strategy to dodge the bullet or the tear gas in order to fight another day.

“Facing an armed Police man on the 20th day of the month after his last salary requires some form of caution. Comrade Sowore is bravely wise. THE SOWORE CHALLENGE

One of the founding Editors of Tell magazine, Dare Babarinsa, also in a Facebook reaction, stated that “Omoyele Sowore is one of the heroes of our struggle against military rule. Now he has fallen in love with a  suspected criminal who is manipulating our country’s judicial system to delay or even escape justice for the alleged murder of hundreds of innocent men, women, and children,  especially in the Igbo heartland of the South East.

“This is sad! However,  the police has a duty to protect Sowore and his crowd. That is the irony of democracy. The right to protest and disagree is one of the fundamental rights we won on the battle field against military dictatorship.

“Sowore’s outing today therefore shows that madness can be an infectious disease.

Meanwhile in Akure, Ondo state capital, protesters mainly Igbo traders on Monday joined the protest asking for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as they did not open shops for commercial activities.

Shops operated by Igbos along Oyemekun Road, Adesida Road, Arakale Road, NEPA, Carl Street, Old Garage and other commercial areas in the capital city were shut.

Moving around the commercial centres in the capital city, it was obvious that people from the Eastern part of the country operated the only shops that didn’t open for commercial activities.

Automobile spare parts shops, supermarkets owned by Igbos at these areas are under lock and key, while shops that opened for operations were all owned by people from other parts of the country.

There was heavy presence of security agents at flash points where protesters usually converge in Akure metropolis.

IPOB: Release Nnamdi kanu Now- Okonkwo

Free Nnamdi Kanu Protest

Kenneth Okonkwo, a spokesman for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his support behind the ongoing protest, across the country calling for the immediate release of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB strongman, Nnamdi Kanu.

Okonkwo who spoke on Monday on Channels Television Sunrise Daily stated that the secessionist leader’s trial has dragged for too long, that he should be released without further delay.

A human rights activist and Online newspaper Sahara Reporters Publisher, Omoyele Sowore is leading the protest, which began on Monday, for the unconditional release of the IPOB leader.

Not a few Nigerians including Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate have pulled their weight behind the protesters, saying the IPOB leader, who is standing trial for treason and terrorism related charges have been detained for too long in government  custody.

According to Okonkwo, the federal government should ensure that Kanu is released immediately, noting however that his trial should be carried out “judiciously and humanly” if the government still decides to prosecute him for the alleged crime.

He advised that political solutions should be applied to Kanu’s case in the interest of peace and national reconciliation, describing the ongoing protest as a legitimate one for the cause of justice.

Responding to the question that the protest could turn violent, the public affairs analyst said the police and other security agencies in the country  should provide protection for protesters to ensure that it doesn’t turn violent.

Okonkwo Calls For Kanus’ release

Speaking on why he backed the demonstrators calling for Kanu’s release recently, Abubakar said the IPOB leader has become a prisoner of conscience considering that he has been kept out of the system for too long, describing his detention as an abuse of power by the federal government.

“The continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains an open sore on our nation’s conscience and a stain on our belief in the rule of law.

“Defying court orders that granted him bail is an abuse of power and an assault on justice.

“I, therefore, lend my voice in full support of the campaign led by @YeleSowore for his immediate release or due prosecution.

“We fail as patriots if we allow Kanu’s case to fester as yet another wound this nation refuses to heal. –AA,” Abubakar said last week ahead the protest.

Also, the 2023 Presidential Candidate while announcing his support for the protest calling for Knau’s release, said his arrest and detention were wrong, urging the federal government to dialogue with Kanu and other agitators in the country for peace to reign..

Obi said, “I’ve always been consistent on Nnamdi Kanu’s situation. There was no need for his arrest in the first place.

. “And I’ve always said that for me, I will consult, negotiate, and discuss with anybody who is agitating. I said it clearly and I remain there.

“I thank those who are actually trying to do or say what we’ve been saying for a long time. Go and check what I’ve said before 2020, 2022, and even 2024. Now that it has gone to court, the rules should be followed—not just for Nnamdi Kanu, but for all agitators across the nation.

“There’s nothing wrong with anybody agitating or saying let’s have a dialogue with them. And whatever we do with them, let’s follow the rules. So, I thank the organisers and those who are involved.”

Genocide Against Christians: Omokri Paid $3000 To Appear On Arise Tv – Ex-US Mayor

0
Mike Arnold and Reno Omokri

The clash between Reno Omokri and a former Mayor of Blanco, Texas, in the United States, Mike Arnold, has worsen after the latter accused the former presidential aide of paying $3,000 for Prime Time appearance on Arise Television.

The American made the allegations in a series of posts he shared on his verified  X on Sunday, saying the money was paid to the television crew members.

Recall that Arnold had clashed with Omokri on Arise Television over allegation  by some US government officials, including Senator Ted Cruz from Texas, to the effect that there is a genocide against Christians communities in Nigeria.

Senator Cruz and other US lawmakers have sponsored a bill trying to designate Nigeria as a country of “Special Interest” even though the federal government has denied the allegation, insisting that Christians are not the only ones affected by the killings in the country.

Omokri had tried to dismiss the allegation during the Arise Television appearance while Arnold insisted that a systemic genocidal act is being committed against Christians in the country, particularly in the northern part, claiming he had evidence to prove the allegation.

The former Texas Mayor would later attack Omokri describing him as a pathological liar and a hypocrite who is not driven by public good, rather by pecuniary gains, because of the money he’s  allegedly paid by those he’s working for in government.

In his latest attack on Omokri on Sunday, the American  who is  also the founder of Africa Arise International narrated what transpired before and after the Arise Television  interview last week.

Arnold: “We had been traveling for 30 hours. Taken straight from the airport directly to the scripted propaganda photo ops with the CAN imposter, then the three imams. And then hustled downstairs to the studio and straight on the air for this live, primetime interview,” Arnold wrote.

“No bathroom break, no drink of water, no moment to catch our breath. I had to beg for just a moment to put on a clean shirt. He actually wanted me wearing my crumpled grubby travel clothes.

“Bad enough my hair was messed up from sleeping on the airplane, and my teeth felt like they were slimy. I’m sure we didn’t smell good either.

“Reno paid for this spot on TV, I was told $3000. Watch it, you see that it was a set up. He was trying to trap me and get me on the record agreeing with him.

“Now here’s what’s going on in this video: the tv studio set has room for two guests. A third must go to an adjacent room.

“The host, and all the staff, assumed that they would do what they always have done, and the actual guests would sit with the host, while the handler would go in the next room.

“Reno demanded that he sit on the main set, in the top guest chair. The host was adamant against that. (It went on much longer than this, and got quite heated. I only thought to record it at the last moment.)

“You can hear the music starting to play. We were about to go live. Reno was prepared to ditch and leave the host hanging, who without option consented at the last moment, extremely upset.

“That’s what you call sleazy.”

Arise Television management has denied the allegation that money was paid for the television appearance on the station.

Unknown Gunmen Storm Lagos Barracks Market, Shoot Butcher

0
Gunmen

By Akinwale Kasali

Unknown Gunmen caused a stir at the Military Barracks in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, shooting sporadically into the air, leaving dead a butcher identified as Ridwan.

The incident which occurred around 8 am, Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the Mammy Market section of the Barracks led to pandemonium.

The yet to be identified gunmen were said to be Four in number, stormed the Market causing a scare as they fired several shots into the air.

Eyewitness report stated that the assailants knew their target as they headed straight to Ridwan’s stall and opened fire on him multiple times.

The incident was said to have happened within a twinkle of an eye.

A trader, who identified herself as Mummy Blessing narrated the incident, saying, “We were just opening for business when we heard gunshots. Everyone left what they were doing and ran away. Before we knew it, the men who were wearing masks went straight to where Ridwan was selling meat, shot him, and fled. When we all came back, we saw him in a pool of blood.”

The attack which could be described as a well mapped out, saw the assailants not attacking any other person, but shot sporadically into the air to scare both the buyers and sellers at the Market.

The late Ridwan’s meat stall located close to a corner in the market was seen empty and deserted when the reporter paid a visit to the scene of the occurrence.

Another eyewitness said the location of the stall aided the operation of the assailants.

“The men were very close to Ridwan’s stall when they started firing gunshots. So while everyone ran away, Ridwan could not find an escape route. That was how they successfully killed him,” the eyewitness, identified as Musa, disclosed.

It was gathered that after Ridwan was shot multiple times, efforts were made by the Market people to save his life, but this proved abortive as he was said to have been rejected at the medical facility in the Barracks.

An eyewitness who claimed anonymity said, “He was quickly carried into a tricycle and rushed to the barracks clinic, but when they got there, he was rejected and referred somewhere else. It was later in the day that we learnt he had died”.

Speculations is however rife that the attack was carried out by suspected cultists, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The deceased was also said to have been buried by the family according to Islamic rites.

Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, when contacted stated that she wasn’t aware of the development, stating that no such incident has been reported at the Onireke Police Station, which falls under the jurisdiction.

Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Army, couldnt be reached to comment on this development.

It would however be recalled that last month, September 2025, Four Persons were killed, while a stray bullet injured a 14-year-old boy at Onireke Busstop after gunmen attacked a crowded snooker spot near a military Barracks in the Ojo area of the State.

The assailants had stormed the fun spot, shooting sporadically at the present around 9pm, close to where Ridwan was shot.

Among the casualties was a noodles vendor who was said to have died on the spot.

The reoccurring Insecurity incidents in the area, has further heightened insecurity, leading to calls for more effective security for people of area.
