The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that 21 states have successfully migrated their basic and secondary school data into the digital National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).

It added that the programme is with the support of UNICEF which gave technical assistance.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, announced this at the opening of 69th National Council on Education (NCE), meeting in Akure, Ondo state capital on Monday.

The five-day meeting brought together education leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Nigeria with the theme  “Quality Education, Data and Professionalisation of Teaching: Tools for Enhanced National Development.”

He urged the remaining states to join the platform, describing accurate data as the foundation for effective planning and sustainable educational policies.

Enitan further emphasized the need for improved teacher support, training, and welfare, noting that resolutions from the council carry national significance in shaping education outcomes.

He said the meeting’s theme aligns with Nigeria’s current education priorities, stressing that quality learning and teacher professionalism are essential to national development.

Declaring the session open, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, described the gathering as both timely and relevant, coming at a period when Nigeria is intensifying efforts to meet global education standards.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the education sector through ongoing reforms.

These include the promotion of digital literacy, provision of technology-based learning tools, payment of WAEC fees for students, recruitment and training of teachers, and payment of bursaries and scholarships to indigent students.

The governor noted that education remains central to Ondo State’s development agenda, adding that his government will continue to invest in initiatives that prepare students for a digital and knowledge-driven world.

Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, said the state is fully prepared to lead discussions and contribute meaningfully to the meeting.

He added that the theme captures Nigeria’s shared vision of enhancing education quality through data-driven decision-making and professional teaching standards.

A Director from the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Obianuju, also commended the Ondo State Government and urged participants to generate creative ideas that will strengthen the country’s education framework. She called for stronger collaboration between federal and state actors to drive meaningful progress.

The National Council on Education, Nigeria’s highest policy-making body on education, brings together Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and key stakeholders from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Deliberations at this year’s meeting will focus on data integration, teacher welfare, digital transformation, and inclusive access to learning.

As discussions progress in Akure, expectations remain high that the council will produce actionable resolutions capable of transforming Nigeria’s education system and ensuring every child has access to quality learning, anchoring education as the bedrock of national development.

Sowore Declared Wanted By Lagos Police Command

“The CP was ordered by the IGP to shoot me on sight. When his boys failed, he declared me wanted”

For allegedly plotting to instigate public unrest in Lagos, the State Police Command has declared activist Omoyele Sowore wanted.

The Command declared him wanted for planning a protest against the demolition of houses in Oworonshoki, Lagos.

The Command said Sowore planned to

obstruct major roads in the state.

Jimoh Olohundare, the State Commissioner of Police, disclosed this  on Monday while briefing journalists at the Iyana-Oworo section of the Third Mainland Bridge.

Sowore, the leader of  the “Take It Back Movement,” the CP said,  ignored earlier warnings from the Police not to mobilise protests over the recent demolition of houses in the Oworonshoki area.

He said: “We are closing in on Sowore and others involved in coordinating activities intended to disrupt public peace.

“Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found.

He warned that anyone who tries  to cause disturbances or block public roads would “face the full weight of the law.”

The Commissioner, said intelligence reports showed  that Sowore and his associates planned to  simultaneously demonstrate at strategic locations such as the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park.

He described the alleged plan as “criminal,” and cautioned that it could cause severe traffic disruptions as well as endanger lives.

“It is only someone who needs examination that would attempt to block such a vital route used by thousands daily.”

According to the CP, 13 suspects connected to the planned protest were already under custody while Sowore allegedly fled.

Investigations, he said, are ongoing to uncover the sponsors and collaborators behind the plan.

Jimoh revealed that Police Officers have been deployed along major highways and bridges, where temporary roadblocks and diversions have been mounted.

“The Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight. Any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he emphasised.

On the demolished buildings in Lagos, and especially,  Oworonshoki, the CP said that all those affected have been compensated.

“The Government compensated those affected, and the media witnessed it. There is no justification to provoke a crisis under the guise of protest,” he said.

Assuring Lagosians of adequate protection, he said:

“We are not sleeping. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos,” Jimoh declared.

But in a swift reaction, Sowore said the CP declared him wanted when his boys failed to shoot him (Sowore),allegedly,on sight on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun. He, however said he plans to see the CP soon.

He said: “The Lagos Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, has reportedly declared me ‘wanted’ for ‘disturbance of public peace’, allegedly as a result of his officers’ inability to execute a shoot-on-sight  order given by his illegal IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, in Oworonshoki today.

“Despite my repeated attempts to contact Nigeria Police Force Commissioner Jimoh, he has not taken my calls. Nevertheless, I plan to meet with him soon to address his declaration. #RevolutionNow.”

Embattled Labour Party, LP, in Kaduna State has collapsed its structures into the little known Young Progressives Party, YPP.

This happened in Chikun and Kajuru Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The collapse which took place in Chikun Local Government Area, involved several LP Executives from Ward to Local Government levels who resigned their membership to formally join the YPP.

Receiving the defectors, the National Organising Secretary of YPP, Williams Moses, alongside the State Chairman, Mikailu Abubakar, described the development as a significant step towards building a credible political alternative in Kaduna State.

Moses stated that the decision of the former LP members was motivated by their commitment to better serve their communities through a platform that promotes accountability, unity, and people-oriented governance.

He urged the residents of the State to see the YPP as a credible vehicle for change and national renewal.

Yerima Ahmed, former LP Chairman in Chikun Local Government who spoke on behalf of the defectors said their defection was voluntary and based on shared values rather than internal crisis.

He said: “Chikun is the centre of politics in Kaduna State.

“Our move to YPP represents a new beginning for both the old and the young.

“We believe in a party that upholds equity, unity, and progress”.

Ahmed added that the YPP’s ideology aligned with their vision for a more inclusive and accountable political future for Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole.

For Lagos socialites and Nigerian party lovers in diaspora, especially in Canada, London and United States, Akinloye Tofowomo, popular as Akiin Shuga is a brand name.

He is one of Nigeria’s finest live performers. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 50 Years.

His death has thrown the nation’s entertainment industry into mourning.

It was gathered the music maestro died on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in New Brunswick, Canada.

In a statement  the family described the deceased as a “revered music icon, Grandmaster, and custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance.”

His family thanked everyone for their prayers and condolences.

“As we come to terms with this immeasurable loss, we ask for quiet reflection and the space to honour his life privately.

The late Akiin Shuga was born on January 6, 1975, in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State.

His life could be described as a story of courage and passion.

Struck by polio at the age of five, he rose above his physical limitations to become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated bandleaders and live-music entrepreneurs.

He founded the famous Shuga Band in 1998, starting from Pintos Bar in Ikeja, Lagos.

What began as a small group later grew into a 14-man ensemble of instrumentalists and vocalists that became a fixture at weddings, corporate events, and state occasions.

His company, Shuga Entertainment, became known for professionalism and excellence in live performance.

Akiin Shuga was also the Founder and President of the Association of Music Band Owners of Nigeria, AMBON, where he worked to improve welfare and standards in the live-music sector.

According to a colleague of Akiin Shuga who could not hold back tears on hearing his demise, “Akiin was more than a performer; he was a reformer.

“He brought dignity to a profession that was often misunderstood. He made us see that a live band is not just an accessory for parties, but an important part of our cultural economy.”

Known for his attention to details, Akiin Shuga often reminded his crew, “We don’t perform to impress; we perform to connect.”

Reke Ofano, the Band Leader of the Shuga Band, described him as a perfectionist with a big heart. “Shuga never accepted mediocrity. He pushed everyone to be better, but he also cared deeply. He knew everyone’s story and made us all feel like family,” he said.

Akiin Shuga studied Music Business at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, before returning to Nigeria to modernise live performance. He introduced innovations such as brand collaborations, choreography, and digital sound engineering, raising the standard of live music in the country.

It was gathered that beyond music, the late Akiin Shuga was a strong advocate for people living with disabilities.

As a polio survivor, he established the Shuga Limb Foundation to support persons with limb challenges. In 2018, he was appointed Rotary International District Polio Ambassador.

District Governor, Prince Henry Olubowale Akinyele, described him as “a man who carried his scars like medals.” He said, “Akiin Shuga used his music to inspire hope. Through his song I Can Walk, he gave polio survivors courage to dream again.”

Over the years, Shuga Band performed at major social events, state functions, and corporate galas across Nigeria. Despite fame and success, Akiin Shuga remained humble and spiritual. He was known to end every show with a prayer and a promise to “leave joy in the air.”

“He taught us that music is service — to people, to God, and to joy itself,” Ofano said.

“Even in death, he remains our Grandmaster.”

One of his own lyrics says, “Every rhythm tells a story.” His story, filled with courage, melody, and meaning, will live on in the hearts of those he inspired — and in every beat that celebrates the sound of live music in Nigeria.

Tributes have continued to pour in from musicians, fans, and event professionals, who described him as “the architect of modern live-band culture” in Nigeria.

The deceased is survived by his wife, children, siblings, and mother.

The family had however stated that details of his memorial arrangements will be announced later.

Local Firm Petitions Ogun  Over Forceful Takeover Of Gas Plant By Chinese Firm

Tebams Gas

By Akinwale Kasali

Tunde Taiwo, a Small Scale Industrialist and founder of Sevam’s Gases and Real Life Products, has sent a Save-Our-Soul appeal to the Ogun State Government following the alleged demolition of his ₦500 million worth Gas Production Facility by a Chinese firm, Sheng Xin Industrial Co. Ltd, and its alleged conspirators.

Taiwo’s Company which deals in Industrial and Medical Gases, including Carbondioxide and Oxygen for commercial and Hospital Use is located at Peteh area along Lagos-Ibadan Airspace Way, Ogun State, was said to have been illegally invaded and destroyed by men who claimed to be acting on behalf of another firm, Sengen Industries Limited, said to be owned by Chinese Nationals.

In a petition to the Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney General of Ogun State, it stated that the incident occurred in mid-October 2025, alleging that over  hundred men, including armed Mobile Policemen and heavy-duty equipment operators, stormed his premises without any Court order or Government demolition order, razing down buildings, production equipment, and storage facilities valued at over ₦500 million.

Recounting how the crisis began, Taiwo said he lawfully purchased the land measuring One Acre in August 2023 from the Asurugbe family of Ogere Remo, under Ogun State jurisdiction.

He narrated, “Before I bought the land, I went to the Ministry of Lands in Abeokuta. The Government surveyors came, charted the land, and confirmed that it was free from acquisition.

“They advised me to do the survey, submit all my company documents, and begin the process of ratification since the land fell within government-acquired territory. I followed every instruction to the letter”, Taiwo stated.

Speaking further as tears  rolled down his cheeks, Taiwo said that after completing all necessary assessments, officials informed him that another company, UNIFED, had an overlapping boundary, and both parties were advised to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“We were ready for the MoU, but it never materialized. Still, we had no issues. We commenced operations peacefully by December 2023, producing industrial and medical gases,” he said.

It was gathered through findings that for months, the company operated without interference.

The traditional landowners, led by Alhaji Awusipe of the Asurugbe family, reportedly attended the plant’s commissioning ceremony.

“No one ever challenged our presence or ownership. Even the families who sold the land stood with us during development,” he said.

However, Taiwo said trouble began on May 1, 2025 (Workers’ Day) when he was alerted that a 40-foot container had been placed across the factory entrance by individuals claiming he had encroached on their land.

“They locked my customers inside and blocked access. They claimed we encroached on their property, even though their own land had been untouched, undeveloped, and only accessible through ours. It was shocking and provocative,” he recounted.

According to him, he reported the matter to the Ogun State Task Force on Land Grabbing and Illegal Development, as well as the Area Command of the Nigeria Police.

He stated that he also involved the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, where petitions were submitted to relevant authorities.

“I wanted peace. I warned that if government didn’t step in, it could lead to confrontation or bloodshed,” he said.

His worst fears however materialized on Saturday, October 17, 2025, when heavily armed men invaded his property.

“They came in about four trucks, five vehicles of mobile policemen with no identification, and a caterpillar.

“When asked for any demolition order or official backing, they said none was needed because they were taking possession of their land.”

He added that his lawyer intervened, and the Police temporarily stopped the demolition.

However, by Monday, the attackers returned, allegedly backed by individuals claiming to have “court approval.”

“At the meeting with Police, they tried to show us a document that turned out to be fake. Even the officer who read it said it only mentioned adjusting a fence, not demolition,” he alleged.

Despite the confusion, the group allegedly leveled the entire plant, destroying production machines, gas storage areas, administrative buildings, and perimeter fencing.

“They didn’t just destroy; they stole. Some of the vandals carted away valves and gauges, thinking they were scrap metal. I lost everything I’ve worked for in over 27 years of my career,” he lamented.

After the destruction, Taiwo claimed the same group fenced off the entire area, barring him and his workers from accessing the premises.

“They fenced it completely. I can’t even go in to salvage a single item. It feels like my property has been seized in broad daylight,” he stated as he wept  bitterly.

He accused the Monarch, the Ologere of Ogere, of being complicit in the takeover.

“The Ologere’s son, together with the Chinese partners, were behind everything. They claimed to have bought the land in 2024 months after I had purchased and developed mine,” he stated.

According to information seen on the CAC website, the company Sheng Xin Industrial Co. Ltd was incorporated in October 2023, after his own acquisition, yet allegedly produced backdated documents to justify their claim.

Checks also revealed that the Ologere’s Son is a Director of the company.

“They even forged a family member’s signature to claim ownership of all the surrounding land.

“Even if they believe they have a case, the law is clear you don’t take possession through violence or self-help. You go to court.”

He however called for Government intervention, as he appealed to Governor Abiodun, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, and the Ogun State Task Force on Land Grabbing to urgently intervene.

“I want the government to call the Chinese company and the Ologere family to order. They should compensate me for malicious destruction and theft. The government must also determine the true ownership through proper investigation,” he said.

He further urged the Police hierarchy and anti-land-grabbing agencies to ensure that such acts of impunity do not continue unchecked in Ogun State’s industrial corridor.

“This is how investors lose confidence. I worked for nearly three decades in the gas industry, invested all my life savings, and within a day, everything vanished. Government must not allow this injustice to stand.

“I only want justice, Let the truth come out, and let what has been destroyed be restored.”

When contacted for his reaction, the Ologere of Ogere replied,

“Neither myself nor my Son was involved in any demolition of property. It’s better to direct your letter to the company involved.

“The manager of the Chinese company can be reached on 09127**.”

When contacted, the son of the Ologere, whose name appeared on the CAC document as a Director of the company, responded courteously:

“Good afternoon. I am not a director or staff of Shengxin Company, as was wrongly stated in their CAC document which shall be rectified soon. I didn’t lead any demolition, neither do I have detailed information about the incident.

Nevertheless, you can direct all your enquiries to this principal staff of the company  0912*.”

However, efforts to reach the firm’s owner, Xuehong Yang, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to text messages as at the time of filing this report neither was there any response from the number given by both the Ologere of Ogere and his son.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has sued for constructive diplomacy rooted in the long-standing partnership between the United States, (US) and Nigeria following rising tension over alleged Genocide.

Adeleke also appealed for renewed diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the United States, (US) amid rising security tensions.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke urged peaceful dialogue following US President Donald Trump’s recent threats of military action against Nigeria.

“I appeal to the presidency of the United States to support Nigeria in fully implementing its new national security strategy.”

According to him, the new security framework is comprehensive and capable of tackling banditry and terrorist killings across the country.

Adeleke commiserated with the families of victims in the North and said the US should assist Nigeria in overcoming terrorism.

He described Trump’s remarks as a wake-up call for Nigeria to strengthen its counterterrorism efforts with international partners.

“We need our international partners to expand their support for Nigerian security agencies.

“Peaceful interface between Abuja and Washington holds the key, rather than military intervention by the American government.

Adeleke also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its diplomatic steps to ease tension with Washington and address genuine western concerns.

“This is the time to unite as a nation and support national leadership to tackle threats against our citizens.

“We need peace, not war, to deepen our democracy and protect our people.”

Donald Trump and Bola Tinubu

By Adesina Soyooye

The Nigerian Presidency has debunked reports that President Bola Tinubu has a scheduled meeting with the Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance, or anybody over the threat by President Donald Trump to attack Nigeria to clear out those committing alleged genocide on Christians.

Dismissing the reports which said President Tinubu would visit the White House Tuesday for a meeting with Vance, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, in a post on X, Monday, said it as false and misleading.

The reports, said the Presidency, is fueling unnecessary speculation and uninformed  commentary about Tinubu’s diplomatic schedule.

According to Ajayi, any such meeting would be between Tinubu and President Trump and not between Tinubu and Vice President Vance.

Ajayi: “There is a SaharaReporters story that President Tinubu is going to the US on Tuesday to see US Vice President J.D.Vance.  That story is not true. I can see that the fake news by SaharaReporters has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday (Sunday).

“If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see the Vice President.”

US Military Attack Threat: Akpabio Denies Mocking President Trump

Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has debunked a social media post allegedly mocking United States, US President Donald Trump. The post was said to have been Akpabio’s response to the recent US leader’s threat to use military force against Nigeria because of alleged genocide against Christians in the country.

The magazine had earlier reported that President Trump, last week, declared Nigeria as a “Country of Special Concern”, a development that has caused serious fears in the country, particularly after the US leader threatened to use military force against Nigeria.

The controversial social post shared on Rant HQ had quoted Akpabio as saying, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria, not in USA, Trump should focus on US. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings, we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”

Debunking the post on Monday in a statement, Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, disclosed that the post did not come from the Senate President, saying some mischief makers are trying to create a  problem between Akpabio and Trump, with the aim of causing a diplomatic row between the US and Nigeria.

He stressed that the post was made to come from Akpabio even though he did not author it, adding that the senate President is a statesman who have huge respect for the US leader.

“The post is a total falsehood, a product of mischief, and a desperate attempt to incite misunderstanding between Senator Godswill Akpabio and US President Donald Trump, as well as between Nigeria and its international partners,” Eyiboh said.

Eyiboh noted that the accompanying photograph used by Rant HQ — showing the Senate President at an unrelated official event — was “deceptively deployed to lend false credibility to a fabricated quote that was never uttered by him.”

“Senator Akpabio is a statesman of global repute and a respected advocate of international friendship, diplomacy, and mutual respect among nations.

“He holds President Donald Trump in high regard as a historic figure and a leader of a great nation.

“He would never comment on internal matters of the United States, nor issue any statement that falls within the exclusive domain of Nigeria’s executive arm of government or the nation’s foreign policy establishment,” the statement said.

The Senate President’s office described the viral post as “a clear act of digital recklessness and a deliberate attempt to sow confusion, tarnish reputations, and inflame unnecessary diplomatic sentiments.”

“We urge the public to ignore this falsehood in its entirety.”

Christians Genocide: Gumi Urges Tinubu To Cut Diplomatic Ties With US

0
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi

Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has called on the federal government to severe ties with the United States of America, US over the recent threat of military intervention from President Donald Trump against Nigeria.

The US leader had last week designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over what he described as genocide against Christians in the country. The US Secretary of War, had followed up by saying his country was prepared to use its powerful military force against Nigeria.

Reacting, Gumi called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately severe diplomatic relations with the US, he also called on the federal government to summon the US ambassador, saying Nigeria is a sovereign nation that should not be threatened by another country.

The cleric stressed that Nigeria can build diplomatic ties with other countries that align with her national interest, saying friendship with the US is not by force.

Gumi: “For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it,” the cleric said. He asked the federal government to summon the U.S. ambassador and demand an immediate retraction of the military threat.

“They either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime.”

Meanwhile, a former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has asserted that Nigerians are ready to defend their country against US military attacks. He had earlier stated that President Trump had no right to threaten Nigeria, describing the US leader as a bully.

Meanwhile, diplomatic analysts insist that Nigeria has a lot to lose politically and economically by severing diplomatic relations with the most powerful country in the world, saying diplomacy remains the best option to wriggle out of the current clash with President Trump.
