Ganduje Says Kwankwaso, And Followers Will Be Accepted To The APC As ‘Madmen’

Abdullahi Ganduje and Rabiu Kwankwaso

By Akinwale Kasali

Abdullahi Ganduje, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has stated that Rabiu Kwankwaso and his supporters will be welcomed into the APC fold as madmen who returned to their vomit if they defect to the ruling APC.

The former Kano State Governor also took a swipe at Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing his politics as inconsistent and their governance style as “directionless”.

Speaking with BBC Hausa in Kaduna on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting of APC leaders, Ganduje dismissed speculations that Kwankwaso might defect to the APC.

According to him, Kwankwaso lacks

consistency to return to the ruling party after repeatedly ridiculing it.

“We too have heard these rumours, but we don’t take them seriously. In democracy, there’s little difference between a fake cleric and a thief. Kwankwaso once said only a madman would join APC.

“He even mocked President Tinubu when he was contesting, claiming Tinubu only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we’ll welcome them as ‘madmen who swallowed their vomit,’” Ganduje said.

On the possibility of reconciling with Kwankwaso and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Ganduje said it was not out of place, stressing that all three of them have governance experience to guide the current administration if unity becomes necessary.

Further lashing Governor Yusuf, Ganduje described his successor’s administration as “government of vendetta and cluelessness,” accusing it of wasting resources and lacking governance capacity.

“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration. But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered?

“They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved?”, Ganduje queried.

He continued: “This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary. Theirs is a government of bandits, clumsy and confused. They spend recklessly on projects without value for money.”

On his removal as APC National Chairman, Ganduje said it was purely a matter of zoning and political rotation.

“The President did not wrong me. Leadership is by God’s will. He gives it to whom He wants at any time,” he said.

Labour Party Fumes, Over Attack On Abure

Julius Abure

By Akinwale Kasali

The attack on Julius Abure National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP,  has left the Party fuming, and calling for a thorough investigation.

The LP stated that its National Chairman, was allegedly physically attacked by a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P,  at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, has left the party leadership accusing “anti-democratic elements” of sponsoring the assault.

According to a statement signed by  Labour Party’s spokesperson, Obiora Ifoh, on Saturday, Abure was quietly standing in line to board a Max Air flight to Benin when Mama P suddenly pounced on him.

Ifoh said she continued the confrontation onboard, ignoring pleas from flight attendants to calm down, and even carried it on after the flight landed in Benin.

“The attacker, Madam P, who is also a known content creator, continued the attack all throughout the duration of the flight, defying all attempts by the Max Air flight attendants to calm her. The assault, which attracted a large number of onlookers, continued on disembarkation at the Benin Airport while she kept recording the scene,” he said.

It reportedly took the intervention of security operatives at the airport to whisk Abure to safety while the woman was handed over to the police.

The Party added that what shocked it was a video later released by the woman, where she allegedly boasted of her connections.

“In one of her films released, the lady claimed that she has contacts with the highest police hierarchy, boasted that nothing will happen to her, and vowed that she will not stop attacking Abure or any member of the Labour Party executive because, according to her, ‘you have 0killed Labour Party and you are the reason why Obi is no longer in the Labour Party,’’ the statement read.

The Party described the attack on Abure as a ‘Suicide Aggression’, insisting it was politically motivated.

“We sincerely believe that the lady-agent was on an assignment to accomplish the desires of her paymasters. Assault and cyber-bullying are severe crimes under our laws, and we think that the Police must fish out her sponsors and cohorts, and bring them to book,” Ifoh said.

The Labour Party urged its members not to retaliate but to remain calm while awaiting the outcome of police investigations.

“We are calling on members of the Labour Party to be calm, even in the face of this unwarranted provocation, and wait for the outcome of the investigation into the unprovoked attack against the leadership of the party,” the statement added.

The Chances of a Disruptive Opposition in a Presidential Election

In every democracy, the strength of the opposition tells the story of the health of the system. An opposition is not simply a group of critics; at its best, it is an organized movement that can shake entrenched powers by offering the people a believable alternative. A truly disruptive opposition does not shout in the marketplace; it patiently builds, organizes, and mobilizes until its voice becomes the people’s voice. The real question in any presidential contest is whether the opposition can rise to that level.

Incumbent governments usually enjoy the power of the state—control of resources, security, and institutions. That makes them formidable. But incumbency is not a guarantee of victory. Whenever governance falters and citizens are weighed down by hunger, insecurity, or corruption, the ground beneath power begins to shift. At such moments, a determined opposition has the chance to turn discontent into a national earthquake.

History in Africa gives us many lessons. Ghana in 2000 is a prime example. After nearly two decades of dominance, fatigue with the Rawlings era created an opening. The New Patriotic Party, with John Kufuor at the helm, stepped into that space with unity and credibility. They spoke to civil society, to the youth, and to the average Ghanaian. The people listened—and change happened.

Kenya followed a similar path in 2002. The long shadow of KANU was broken when opposition leaders swallowed their pride and built a rainbow coalition. They agreed on Mwai Kibaki as a compromise candidate, and that unity dislodged a ruling party once thought unbeatable. The lesson is eternal: divided opposition is weak opposition; united opposition is unstoppable.

Nigeria too has walked this road. For 16 years, the PDP seemed untouchable. Then in 2015, opposition leaders did the unthinkable—they merged their structures, set aside their egos, and rode on a wave of public frustration. Muhammadu Buhari became the face of that coalition, and for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a sitting president was defeated. That singular moment proved that disruption is possible, even in our complex political environment.

The same story plays out globally. In India, the BJP broke Congress’s dominance in 2014 by channeling anger at corruption and presenting Narendra Modi as a decisive alternative. In America, Barack Obama in 2008 rode a wave of hope and disillusionment with the old order to claim victory. Everywhere we look, the pattern is the same: disruption comes when the opposition connects with the people’s hunger for change.

But disruption is never automatic. It requires unity to avoid scattering strength, strategy to speak to the people’s real pain, and credibility to make promises believable. Without these three, opposition politics becomes noise without impact.

Technology has also changed the game. Social media has become a rallying ground where young voices can no longer be ignored. Movements like #EndSARS in Nigeria proved that when digital energy is directed at power, it cannot be easily silenced. An opposition that masters these tools will not just compete—it will dominate the political conversation.

Still, the obstacles remain. Governments often deploy state machinery to frustrate their challengers—through selective arrests, financial restrictions, or manipulation of electoral bodies. But history shows that once the hunger for change becomes overwhelming, no institution can permanently stop it. The will of the people, when properly organized, eventually finds expression.

The Tinubu Factor

Yet, Nigeria’s present reality cannot be divorced from the personality of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is not an ordinary everyday politician. He is a master of the game, a strategist who has spent decades studying and shaping politics in Nigeria. His moves are deliberate, his networks are vast, and his survival instincts are extraordinary. Tinubu is no push-over; those who come against him without preparation may pay dearly for their miscalculation.

In the dangerous waters of Nigerian politics, Tinubu is both lion and crab—fierce on land, yet able to thrive in the murky depths of compromise and confrontation. For the opposition, this presents a sobering reality. Mounting a disruptive challenge against him in 2027 without first putting their house in order may end in disappointment. The wiser path may be to reorganize, rebuild credibility, and conserve strength for 2031, when the political terrain might be more favorable. To charge unprepared at Tinubu’s fortress is to risk both defeat and disintegration.

But that does not mean the opposition should fold its arms. Between now and the next elections lies an opportunity. They must deepen internal democracy, nurture credible leaders, and speak the people’s language in clear, practical policies. Nigerians are tired of empty promises; they want workable plans on security, jobs, education, and healthcare. An opposition that shows it is ready to govern, not just complain, will win trust.

The youth are especially crucial. They are the majority, restless and digitally connected, yet often ignored by traditional politics. Any opposition that fails to embrace them will remain on the sidelines of history. But an opposition that opens its doors to their energy and ideas will find itself riding a wave that no incumbency can suppress.

In the end, the chances of a disruptive opposition in a presidential election rest on a delicate balance: the failures of the ruling party on one side, and the unity and vision of the opposition on the other. Incumbency can delay change, but it cannot suppress it forever. The real question is whether the opposition has the discipline to rise above personal ambition and become the voice of the people. Where t hat happens, disruption is not only possible—it is inevitable.

Umahi: “South East No Longer Obidient, Now Totally Behind Tinubu”

The Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi, has down- played the acclaimed political influence of Peter Obi, the Labour Party LP Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections, in the South East region of Nigeria.

At the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onitcha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Saturday, September, 27,2025,  Umahi insisted that the South East region is no longer in solidarity with the Obidient Movement ,but now, manifestly behind the second term ambition of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the influence of Obi in the political configuration of the region, as well as that  of his Obidient Movement have been considerably whittled down by the unprecedented leadership qualities of President Tinubu.

The former Ebonyi State Governor noted several years of marginalization, and the visible efforts of the present administration at the centre at re-writting the ugly narratives, have become a turning point in the South East alliance.

According to Umahi, come 2027, the region,  particularly, Ebonyi State, will vote massively for the re-election bid of President Tinubu.

“We are not Obidient people. We have been so marginalized that we are no longer Obidient. No, we are not.

“But it is the man that has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that we will rally behind. Let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and they are saying this State belongs to them (Obidients). There is no Obidient person in Ebonyi state.

“The people of the South East region have grown politically wiser, and as such, will not be deceived again like was done in 2023.

“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for the South East and Ebonyi state when the time comes.

“We Will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake. But we have become wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us”, Umahi stated.

The Works Minister expressed the optimism that the 2027 general elections will provide the people of the South East region the opportunity to show appreciation to the All Progressive Congress APC-led Federal Government for wiping out their tears through inclusive politics.

After months of anxiety and speculations, Imo State, which has been without any occupant in the two important  and sensitive offices, finally has a Chief Judge, as well as an Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Both appointees, the Honourable Justice Ijeoma Agugua and Mr. Paul Obinatu, were sworn in over the weekend as the Acting Chief Judge and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, respectively. Also, sworn-in as Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Skill Acquisition and Social Responsibility, is Professor Chinonye Love Moses.

As he swore them in, the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma urged government appointees and elected office holders to respect, commit and be guided by the solemn oath to work in the greatest interest of the State and the nation during their swearing-in ceremony.

The event took place at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, Government House Owerri.

The Governor explained that election or appointment into public offices is strictly to serve the interest of the people and not for personal gain.

His words: “You are elected or appointed to serve, and the only way to do this and come out with result is to remain focused, respect the oath of office, and always ask yourself; does my action align with the interest of the people?”

Governor Uzodimma who recalled the challenges faced at the outset of his administration in 2020 pointed out that most of them were surmounted based on his commitment to the oath he took, to the fear of God, and heeding to his conscience to do things right, “and the determination to get Imo State right.”

“Imo State we met in 2020, even the blind in the State can attest that it is not the same today,” he noted.

He expressed optimism that Imo State Judiciary will bounce back again and all lingering issues surmounted.

“The interest of Imo State which the law stands for will not be cast away,” he said, pointing out that “swearing-in of the most senior Judge in the State Judiciary, in line with the constitutional provisions, is a step to recovery of the system.”

Governor Uzodimma further disclosed that in his determination to stamp out kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other forms of criminal activities, he created a new Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Skill Acquisition and Social Responsibility, “to address the problem of unemployment and creating needed engagement for unemployed youth and the vulnerable population.”

He said that two new Commissioners – Mr. Paul Obinatu and Prof. Moses – were chosen because they have made their marks in the judiciary and academia respectively.

Prof Ali Pate

By Ayodele Oni

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Mohammed Ali Pate, has pledged Federal Government support to states in tackling maternal and neonatal mortality.

He disclosed that 172 local government areas across 33 states had been identified as high-risk zones, including five in Delta—Ndokwa East, Ughelli North, Aniocha North, Udu, and Sapele

The minister disclosed this on Saturday at Ashaka, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, of Delta state, during the flag-off of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII) Project Action Plan.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme stated that the state has recorded a significant reduction in maternal mortality, with figures dropping from over 200 to less than 120 per 100,000 live births.

He expressed optimism that the programme would further reduce maternal and child deaths in the state.

While commending most health workers for their dedication, Onojaeme revealed that some had been sanctioned for extorting money from pregnant women and children under five, despite the state’s free healthcare policy for these groups.

“Health workers in the state have done well, but in every twelve, there is a Judas. We have received reports of some collecting money from pregnant women and children under five for drugs, while still forwarding the bills to the government for payment.”

According to him, several workers have already been dismissed while others were demoted for similar offences.

He assured that monitoring would continue to ensure that funds released for maternal and child healthcare were properly utilised.

Onojaeme emphasized that all pregnant women in Delta State are entitled to free healthcare until delivery, while children under five also receive free medical treatment.

He encouraged residents to report any health worker demanding payment, adding that the phone number of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health Monitoring would be made public for such reports.

Unity Bank

Contrary to earlier reports, Nigerian lender Unity Bank Plc has confirmed that an existing shareholder of the Bank acquired the 34 percent equity stake previously held by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON.

The development comes after shareholders of the commercial bank approved the proposed merger with Providus Bank Limited, marking a major milestone in the business combination of the two financial institutions.

The shares acquisition transaction, which crossed 4.004 billion units of Unity Bank shares on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on September 25, 2025, follows the lifting of the suspension placed on trading of the Bank’s shares.

The Bank clarified that the shares were acquired by an existing investor and not by Providus Bank Limited, which is currently pursuing a merger with Unity Bank.

Meanwhile, at the Court-Ordered Meeting held on September 26, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, shareholders overwhelmingly approved the Scheme of Merger with Providus Bank Limited. Out of 295 shareholders who participated, 293 shareholders representing 99.32 percent of the Bank’s shareholding (N4.4 billion in value) voted in favour of the merger resolutions.

By the terms of the Scheme, Unity Bank shareholders will receive N3.18 per share or be allotted 18 ordinary shares of N0.50 each in Providus Bank Limited (credited as fully paid) for every 17 ordinary shares of Unity Bank Plc held. Upon completion, the entire share capital of Unity Bank will be cancelled and the Bank dissolved without winding up, while Providus Bank Limited will retain its certificate of incorporation as the enlarged bank.

Speaking on the development, Chairman of Unity Bank Plc, Hafiz Mohammed Bashir, said: “The acquisition of AMCON’s 34 percent stake by an existing shareholder further strengthens confidence in Unity Bank’s future. Alongside the merger with Providus Bank, this marks the beginning of a new chapter that will deliver greater value to shareholders, customers, and the Nigerian economy.”

Shareholders further authorised the Bank’s Directors and Solicitors to seek the necessary Court orders and take all actions required to give full effect to the Scheme.

Obi Blasts Adamawa Govt For Wasting N600m To Sponsor LG Chairmen Wives To Turkiye

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri

A key opposition leader in the country, Peter Obi has dragged the Adamawa state government for sponsoring 21 local government chairmen wives on a trip to Turkiye. At least, N600 million was spent on the controversial trip, he said, which should have been used to fund education and other critical sectors in the state.

Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, made the remark on Friday in the post he shared on his verified X handle.

He stated that the amount could have been used to construct 30 blocks of six classrooms at an average cost of N20 million each, which could have been beneficial to school children in the state, adding that many children in the state are out of school, lacks basic education because of inadequate teachers and classrooms.

He stressed that the funds should have been put to good use, for instance, to pay local government pensioners who are still being owned arrears of pensions.

Such funds, he added, could have been invested in eradicating povertt, healthcare facilities and other areas where the state is lagging behind.

He said, “Today, while our children at the basic education level, whose education is the responsibility of local governments, are out of school, and those in school lack classrooms and teachers, while LGA pensioners are likely being owed, and teachers continue to struggle under economic hardship, it is disheartening that scarce resources are channeled into frivolities such as foreign trips for the wives of local government chairmen who have no public office, at an estimated cost of about ₦600 million in public funds.

“While I sincerely commend Governor Fintiri and his team for their efforts, especially in the area of infrastructure in Yola, Adamawa still remains one of the states in urgent need of investment in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation. Such money, if directed at women micro-credit at an average of ₦100,000 each for women-led micro businesses, will uplift 6,000 women, which would be more impactful to the various LGAs, with about 300 women in each LGA being empowered, than this wasteful spending.”

Asaba Orphanage Rescue: NAPTIP To Conduct DNA On 70 Children

0
NAPTIP

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has rejected claims of abduction of children from a Delta State  Orphanage.

The Source reports that the agency had, on June  15, 2025, conducted operation at an Asaba based Orphanage during which it’s officials and security operatives claimed to have rescued no fewer than 70 Children, among whom were eight indigenes.

However, a few days after the acclaimed rescued children were handed over to the Kano State authorities, the Proprietor of the Orphanage through some human rights activists and civil society organizations, CSOs, raised the alarm and pointedly accused NAPTIP of illegally raiding and abducting children from the South and handing them over to a Northern State.

Specifically, one of the concerned individuals, a lawyer, had, in addition to accusing NAPTIP of abducting Christian children and handing them over to Muslim families in the North, called for DNA tests to ascertain the parental status of the children.

But at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday September 26, 2026, the Director General, DG, of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu, insisted that the June 15 2025 ,Asaba Orphanage rescue effort was not an abduction as being widely claimed.

According to her, the rescue operation was a lawful exercise  undertaken after the receipt of some petitions.

“Let me restate here that the rescue operation in Asaba was not an abduction. It was a lawful, coordinated operation, backed by intelligence, conducted with the Police, and in line with our mandate.

“Blackmail and misinformation will not deter us”, the NAPTIP DG stated.

According to her, the eight children taken to Kano and initially kept with the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs facility, has since been relocated to a more secure NAPTIP facility.

She explained that the relocation became necessary in the face of conflicting and multiple parental claims from women in Kano.

Adamu informed that the agency has in view of the conflicting parental claims, decided on the conduct of DNA tests before finally handing over the rescued children.

“We are not for, or against any claimants. The only way forward is a thorough investigation backed by science. Until then, the children will remain under our protection”, Adamu insisted.

Giving an insight into the Delta State operation, the DG noted that the exercise was in response to a petition received on December 16,2022 from the Protection Against Abduction and Missing Children PATAMOC signed by Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Mohammed.

According to her, the petition entitled “Demand for Justice and Address the Child Abduction in Kano State and Nigeria” underscored widespread cases of missing children.

” Based on this petition, NAPTIP’s Kano Zonal Command began intelligence gathering which led to the discovery of a child trafficking syndicate.

“A woman identified as Hauwa  Abubakar of Gombe State was arrested by the Police after being found with stolen children.

“She confessed to selling 21 children to an accomplice, Nkechi Odlyne, who, in turn, sold seven of them to Mr Christopher Ogugua Nwoye , proprietor of Happy Home Children’s Orphanage Asaba. Each child was reportedly sold for N450,000.

” Nwoye, arrested in Gombe, confessed to the crime, and returned four children. Alongside Abubakar and Odlyne, he is currently facing prosecution at a Gombe State High Court.

“While the two women are remanded in prison,bNwoye is out on bail but attending trial.

“Of the four children returned, three were confirmed by their biological parents in Gombe state. The photograph of the fourth child was circulated by PATAMOC leading to her identification by a woman in Kano as her missing daughter, Aisha Buhari.

“This prompted NAPTIP to step in, especially, as it was already assisting the Kano State Government in its probe of over 600 missing children between 2010 and 2019.

“So on June 12 2025, NAPTIP dispatched operatives from its Abuja Headquarters and Kano Zonal Command to Asaba.

“The team was joined by the Kano State Chairman of Parents of Missing Children under PATAMOC, who could identify Aisha and had photographs of several children.

“For transparency and security, NAPTIP sought and obtained official support from Delta State Police Command.

“At the facility where over 70 Children were kept, the proprietor was absent and only his wife was present.

“After profiling the children, PATAMOC’s Chairman identified Aisha, and seven others. No arrest was made at the scene to avoid chaos, but NAPTIP left its contact for the proprietor to respond”, Adamu noted .
