Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari into the position.
Their resignations, also come following the allegation of corruption leveled against Farouk by President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
Dangote had accused the former NMDPRA of paying over $5 million for his four children school fees in Switzerland, wondering how Farouk could afford such a humongous amount as a public servant.
The Dangote Boss has also petitioned anti graft agencies in the country to investigate Farouk urged senators to treat the nominations with urgency, saying their confirmation would ensure continuity in the upstream and downstream petroleum sector.
Eyesan is a seasoned petroleum economist with nearly 33 years of experience at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. and its subsidiaries.

Burkina Faso Finally Releases Nigeria’s Military Personnel NAF Aircraft

After an almost two-week face-off, the Burkina Faso Military Junta has finally released 11 Nigeria Airforce Personnel and their C-130 Military Aircraft.

Recall that the Aircraft was forced to land at Burkinabe’s Bobo Dioulasso  Airport after it over-flew the country’s airspace without authorisation. Thereafter, the 11 Military Personnel and the Aircraft were detained.

In reaction to that, the Confederation of Sahel States – Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso – in a strongly-worded statement issued by the Malian Leader, Assimi Goita, accused Nigeria of an  “unfriendly act carried out in defiance of international law”, and warned that member states were now on alert to neutralise aircraft violating their airspace.

In response, the Nigerian Air Force treated the incident as no issue. In a statement, its Director of Public Relations, Ehimen Ejodame, explained that the Aircraft and Personnel were on a ferry mission to Portugal when the crew noticed a technical issue and so, carried out a precautionary landing at the nearest airfield in line with international aviation protocols. The impression was also given that the Military personnel and the aircraft were not detained, that the personnel were received cordially, well looked after, and would soon be on their way to Portugal.

However, that never happened. They were kept in detention and the Burkinabe junta refused the Nigerian Acting Ambassador access to them when he tried to see them.

But now, thanks to a high level delegation sent by President Bola Tinubu, and led by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso to sort the embarrassing situation out, the Air Force personnel have been released. This was confirmed on Wednesday night by the Nigerian Government.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the aircraft and personnel had been released. He was quoted as saying: “Yes, they have been released on Wednesday after Tuggar met with Ibrahim Traore, the Leader of Burkina Faso.”

Peter Obi Calls for Transparency Over Nigeria–France Tax Agreement

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to ensure full transparency and public accountability in reforms of Nigeria’s tax system, following reports of a tax cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and France.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Obi said that while international collaboration is not inherently wrong, agreements relating to tax administration, revenue systems, and data management require a high degree of openness because of their direct impact on public trust.

He expressed concern that an agreement of such importance appeared to have been concluded without the full details being made public or a clear explanation of its objectives, scope, and expected outcomes. According to him, transparency is critical in matters that directly affect public revenue and institutional credibility.

Obi noted that he was not opposed to engaging foreign expertise but stressed that such engagements must be clearly justified. He said Nigerians deserve to know the specific gaps such partnerships are meant to fill, why those gaps cannot be addressed locally, and the concrete benefits the country stands to gain.

He further argued that Nigeria is not short of tax expertise, pointing out that the country has a strong pool of qualified tax professionals, advisory firms, and globally recognised consultancies already operating locally. In his view, prioritising external partnerships over strengthening local capacity raises legitimate questions and undermines sustainable institutional development.

The former Anambra State governor said the concerns were heightened by Nigeria’s current economic challenges, noting that over 60 per cent of Nigerians live in multidimensional poverty, youth unemployment remains widespread, small and medium-scale enterprises are burdened by multiple taxes, and government borrowing continues to rise without corresponding productivity gains.

He advised that government policy should focus on simplifying the tax system, plugging revenue leakages, fairly broadening the tax base, and ensuring the prudent use of public resources.

Obi warned that any agreement or policy initiative lacking transparency, public confidence, and clearly defined benefits could further erode trust in government. He therefore called on the Federal Government to publish the full MoU, clearly explain its rationale, and outline the mutual benefits, particularly the tangible advantages for Nigeria.

He concluded by saying that leadership demands openness, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to the interests of the Nigerian people, stressing that decisions of this nature must always be guided by what best serves the nation.

Obi Lashes FG, Says 80 Percent Youth Unemployment Rate  Indictment On Nation’s Leadership

Peter Obi, Labour Party,  LP, Presidential Candidate at the 2023 Election has come hard on the Government on the recent ActionAid/Plan International report, which puts Nigeria’s Youth Unemployment rate at 80 per cent.

The two-term former Anambra State Governor said that the statistics is an indictment on Nigeria’s leadership and its economic direction.

Obi noted that these figures represent over 80 million unemployed youths.

He stated that these figures was a staggering reality given the country’s undeniably large population.

Taking to his verified X Handle (Formerly Twitter) Obi accused the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC, administration of failing in its responsibility of investing in our youths.

Obi said: “The recent ActionAid/Plan International report, which highlights the devastating fact that over 80 million young Nigerians are unemployed, is an indictment on our leadership and economic direction.

“Nigeria tops the world in the absolute number of unemployed youths due to our large population, with over 80/ million youths without jobs.

“South Africa with a youth unemployment rate of around 60 percent, translates to about six/ million unemployed youths, still more than 70/ million fewer than Nigeria.

“When millions of youths are unemployed, it is not a youth problem, it is a leadership failure. This is the direct result of political greed that has failed to serve the people.

“Nigeria has one of the largest youth populations in the world, with about 75 percent of our citizens under the age of 35. With such a large share of the population young, joblessness at this scale should be a national emergency.

“It is deeply troubling that, rather than invest in these youths as our most productive assets, promoting and supporting MSMEs to drive growth and create employment, we the leaders chose wasteful spending, corruption, unproductive borrowing, and policies that will shrink opportunities and expand poverty, reducing Nigerian youths to easy tools for all forms of vices.

“Nigeria does not lack entrepreneurial and resourceful youths, what we lack are leaders who are intentional about creating opportunities.”

“We need leaders who understand that jobs come from deliberate investments in production and from running a government that is prudent, transparent, and people-centred, that can lift people out of poverty.

“We need leadership that will see the youth as the engine of productivity and growth of a nation. This is the time, more than ever, for the Nigerian youths to get involved and ensure they elect leaders who have their best interest and the best interest of our nation.

“Nigeria deserves competent, credible, compassionate, and capable leadership, one that will create opportunities and empower our young Nigerians. A New Nigeria is possible,” he added.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has given the assurance of rendering a comprehensive ,clear and verifiable account of how Rivers State’s funds are being managed.

This is as he informed that on resumption from suspension, he met the sum of N600 billion in the State’s coffers as left behind by the former Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.

The Rivers State Governor who spoke at the occasion of the commissioning of the 14. 2 kilometer Obodhi–Ozochi Road ,stated that before proceeding on a six-month suspension owing to the emergency rule declaration, he left N 300 billion in the state’s treasury.

He described as unnecessary and a  needless attempt to heat up the polity insinuations suggesting misappropriation and mismanagement of State resources.

Governor Fubara blamed misconceptions in some quarters about mismanagement of state funds on what he called his deliberate preference for low profile in executing and Commissioning of projects.

According to him, some people have tended to  misunderstand his non-indulgence in unnecessary flamboyant public flag-off of projects,to insinuate mismanagement of state funds.

However, he insisted that every available fund is being properly channelled into projects and programmes that are people-oriented and impactful.

The Governor, while vehemently rejecting claims of purported mismanagement, noted that the visible transformation cutting across different sectors remains an eloquent testimonial to his administration’s prudent and responsible governance.

He described his administration’s record on accountability, transparency and prudent financial management as being unassailable.

While noting several ongoing developmental projects, Governor Fubara affirmed his readiness to  give account of the State’s receipts and expenditure under his watch within the next few months.

The Source further reports that Governor Fubara has of recent come under scathing criticisms from the Speaker Martins Amaewfule-led  pro-Nyesom Wike state House of Assembly over alleged non–performance even in the face of huge resources available to the state.

The law makers had specifically berated Governor Fubara for allowing public schools in the state to lie comatose ,amidst humongous funds in the state’s coffers.

Kayode Egbetokun - Inspector General of Police - IGP

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

A Delta State High Court sitting in Orerokpe on Wednesday, December 27, 2025, granted an interim injunction restraining the  Nigeria Police Force  from recommencing  the enforcement of the purported ban on the use of tinted glasses by motorists in the country.

The Source reports that the police had, since last week, informed that they will resume  the enforcement exercise on January 2, 2025 ,after it was earlier halted owing to a legal pronouncement against the move.

But despite strong warnings from several groups, including the national leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, against the proposed planned resumption of the enforcement exercise, the police has remained adamant.

The National President of NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, had  earlier in the  week urged  President Bola Tinubu to call the Inspector General of Police, IGP, to order, insisting that there is a subsisting court order restraining the service from embarking on the enforcement exercise.

However, the Police, which have denied being served any restraining court order have vowed to go ahead with the enforcement come January 2, 2026.

Ruling on an ex-parte motion brought by one Israel Joe, Presiding Judge Justice, Joe Egwu, ordered the IGP, the Nigeria Police Force and the Delta State Police Command ,who are the respondents in the suit, to halt any implementation of the enforcement of the purported ban on the use of tinted glasses, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The applicant had, in the suit prayed the court among others to grant an order of interim injunction restraining the police from ” implementing/enforcing and or further implementing/enforcing the the ban on the tinted glass permit policy set to commence on January 2,2026 , pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit

Similarly, the applicant  asked the court to restrain the police from stopping, harassing , arresting , detaining, extorting ,or otherwise interfering with the constitutional rights to dignity , privacy , freedom of movement and ownership of property of the applicant ( and citizens/motorists) under the guise of enforcing the tinted glass permit policy pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Justice Egwu while ruling on the ex-parte application granted all the reliefs sought by the applicant , including an order restraining the police from the continued use of the Parkway Projects account ,which the applicant described as a private account ,to carry out any Government related transactions , until the hearing and determination of the substantive suit .

Consequently, the court adjourned proceedings to December 24 ,2025 for the commencement of hearing of the motion on notice.

Malami: EFCC Boss  After Me Because Of His Indictment In Justice Salami Report

0
Abubakar Malami
Embattled former  Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has accused the EFCC Chairman , Ola Olukoyede of pursuing a personal vendetta against him.
According to Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, the EFCC boss is after him because he’s privy to the report of the Justice Ayo Salami judicial commission of inquiry, which indicted Olukoyede.
Malami made the allegation amid his recent arrest and detention by the anti-graft agency for alleged abuse of office and corruption, while he served as the nation’s Chief Law Officer under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that Malami had last week accused the EFCC of denying him bail, even though the commission said the former Attorney General of the Federal and Minister of Justice is being legally detained, against his claim that his continued detention has political undertone.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Malami Media aide,  Mohammed Bello the ex- Justice Minister claimed that the EFCC boss has personal vendetta against him because,  he, as the then Attorney General was privy to the indictment of Olukoyede by the Justice Salami Commission which indicted the agency boss for corruption and abuse of office while he served as the secretary to the commission at the time.
According to the statement, chapter nine of the report examined the conduct and responsibilities of senior EFCC officials and created personal and professional exposure for individuals now exercising prosecutorial authority over Malami.
Having being indicted in the report, Malami said Olukoyede cannot prosecute him, saying from all indication the EFCC boss cannot be neutral in the case, urging him to recuse himself.
According to him, the law on recusal is settled and is based on the test of reasonable apprehension of bias rather than proof of actual malice.
Malami said any reasonable observer aware of the circumstances surrounding chapter nine of the Salami report would conclude that he cannot receive an impartial investigation under the current leadership of the EFCC.
He said the Olukoyede-led EFCC is persecuting him because of some action he took while serving as Minister of Justice, which may have affected some top officials of the commission at the time, saying those officials are trying to punish him for some lawful policy decisions implemented under his watch as the nation’s Chief Law Officer., calling on Olukoyede to hand off any case related to him with the EFCC.
He, however,  said he is prepared  to submit himself to a neutral and independent investigative and court to prove his innocence of any allegation against him.
“This is not a personal dispute; it is a constitutional issue. If the EFCC is allowed to function as an instrument for the settlement of personal scores and grievances, then the rule of law itself is imperilled.
“Abubakar Malami, SAN, will continue to insist on justice according to law and due process, not persecution by power,” Malami said.

Buhari’s Administration Aided Corruption, Underperformance By Appointees – Fmr First Lady

0
Buhari and Aisha Buhari

By Ayodele Oni

The fear of his being tagged dictator as well as old age, played negative roles in the eight years presidency of the late Mohammad Buhari.

According to the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, her husband rarely sacked underperforming aides, and later after he left office, pleaded on behalf of some allies facing probes.

Her account appeared in a new 600-page biography titled ‘From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari’, authored by Dr. Charles Omole and unveiled at the State House, Abuja, on Monday.

The former First Lady stated that the question that haunts the Buhari presidency remains “why weren’t those who ‘disappointed him—ministers who could not deliver, [service] chiefs who outlasted their prime—replaced?”

She offered two reasons, saying advancing age and a sensitivity to the “dictator” label from the 1980s, which made him wary of being seen as ruthless. As you age, performance changes,” she stated.

He also feared the stigma, noting, “If I remove him, they will say I am this and that. The devil you know,” he would say.

She argued that some around the president learnt to exploit this hesitation, often invoking cautionary clichés that fed his reluctance

“When asked to step aside for investigations, Buhari pleaded with the new government on behalf of his kinsmen, seeking to shield them from inquiry, because he still depended on them for many personal matters,” read the 22-chapter book chronicling his early life in Daura, Katsina state, until his final hours in a London hospital in mid-July 2025.

The former First Lady added, “Even if a man ‘eats,’ if he can still deliver 50 per cent, keep him; But if he both eats and cannot perform, then he must go.”

Omole wrote that “This analysis by Aisha provides an additional angle on the children’s explanation for why Buhari was always reluctant to sack people.

The family all agreed this was a fault in the Buhari government, but it is mitigated by the realism of the cabal’s manipulation of his emotions.”

Since 2023, several senior officials from the Buhari era have faced scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).

Former Accountant-General Ahmed Idris is being tried over an alleged N109bn fraud scheme to which he pleaded not guilty. Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman was arrested over an alleged diversion of about N22bn tied to Zungeru/Mambilla projects.

Ex-Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika has been arraigned on contract-fraud counts linked to Nigeria Air and other deals, with charge sheets citing figures around N2.7bn in one case.

Former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq has been questioned in a probe into N37.1bn in social-intervention spending; the ex-NSIPA DG, Halima Shehu, also faces a separate investigation over N44bn.

More recently, ex-Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has also drawn scrutiny principally for his role in efforts to process contentious Paris-Club consultant claims totalling about $418m.

Malami has denied wrongdoing and says his actions were lawful. Aisha Buhari says her late husband protected individuals who should have faced scrutiny.

Although she did not name them, she sketched “their closeness, their greed, their immunity,” the book noted.

When questions began to rise in the corridors of power after he left office, she was urged to return to Daura so that prosecutions could proceed.

She refused, saying she had no interest in confronting those she describes as “illiterate in her maturity.”

A few weeks later, she learnt he had gone silent in the household for three days and was barely eating.

When some allies were asked to step aside for investigation, Buhari “pleaded with the new government on behalf of his kinsmen,” Omole writes, because he still depended on them for many personal matters.

The book read, “When questions about those years started emerging in the corridors of power, someone urged her to return to Daura to stay with him. ‘If you are there, they can prosecute the people,’ the warning went.

She declined, stating she had no interest in confronting those she describes as illiterate in her maturity. However, the story didn’t conclude with her refusal.

A few weeks later, she learned he had not spoken to the household for three days and had been eating hardly anything.

“Later still, she found out that when asked to step aside for investigations, Buhari pleaded with the new government on behalf of his kinsmen, seeking to shield them from inquiry because he still depended on them for many personal matters. Conscience is an ancient hunter.

“In the months before his death, she says he became more reserved, mostly replying with yes or no and avoiding eye contact. ‘All that I told him had come to pass,’ she remarks calmly.

“Shame, duty, and love, all the unpredictable forces of a shared life, dominated his final days, a man who had always prided himself on integrity.”

The former First Lady’s account revives a long-running debate from Buhari’s tenure, especially his hesitance about dismissals even amid public outcry.

This must explain why his tenure produced the longest-serving set of service chiefs from July 2015 until January 2021.
