Two Polling Units will not be part of the decision on who wins the Governorship Election scheduled for November 8 in Anambra State.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Joash Amupitan.

He revealed that no voting will take place in the two Polling Units, PUs,  because no voter registered in the units.

The INEC Chairman explained this on Tuesday at the meeting he held with Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, on Anambra Governorship Election.

According to him; the Commission will deploy a total of 24,000 personnel for the polls while the  election will hold in 5,718 of the 5720 PUs.

He said:

“We plan to deploy 24,000 personnel.

“The election will be held in 5,718 of the 5,720 Polling Units in the state. Voting will not take place in the remaining two Polling Units due to the absence of registered voters.”

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who was represented by Hassan Abdullahi, and spoke on behalf of ICCES, assured that robust security measures will be  put in place to ensure a hitch-free election.

He said: “These include enhanced surveillance, the deployment of sufficient security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering to prevent any attempt by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to undermine the electoral process.

“Moreover, we are proactively engaging with political party leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our elections.

“All participating political parties and their candidates must advocate for peace and encourage their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that honours the integrity of our electoral system.

“Any form of violence during the elections will be met with a strong, uncompromising response.”

The Governorship election will hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Nigeria Police Force, (NPF), has approved the deployment of 42,000 officers for the Anambra governorship election billed for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed this on Tuesday, at the meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) held at INEC Headquarters, Abuja.

According to Channels Television report, the IGP, represented at the event by the Commissioner of Police for Special Intervention Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, said the deployment would ensure adequate security before, during, and after the polls.

He announced that pre-election deployments would begin on November 1, with tactical units conducting clearance operations to neutralize threats and arrest potential troublemakers.

Egbetokun also disclosed that only security agencies officially represented in the ICCES—such as the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the military—would be involved in the election.

“No vigilante group will be allowed to play any role in the electoral process.”

He disclosed that the police would impose movement restrictions on Election Day and ensure all entry and exit points in Anambra are adequately manned.

“We are determined to deliver a peaceful and credible election,” he said.

On his part, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, cautioned politicians and stakeholders against violence in the election, warning that such acts won’t be tolerated.

Ribadu, who was represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Abdullahi, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the November 8, 2025, poll.

“We are engaging with political leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated,” asking political parties and candidates to promote peace and discourage violence before, during, and after the exercise.

He revealed that the Office of the NSA remains fully committed to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s directive on the strategic mobilization of security forces during the electoral period.

According to him, enhanced surveillance, deployment of adequate security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering have been put in place to prevent any attempt by “destructive elements or desperate politicians” to undermine the electoral process.

IGP Egbetokun Insists Promotion Exercise  Transparent, Complied With Due Process

Kayode Egbetokun - Inspector General of Police - IGP

By Ayodele Oni

The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, has clarified that every promotion exercise carried out during his administration followed due process.

Speaking against raging claims of promotion scandal rocking the Nigeria Police Force, Egbetokun maintained that there was no truth in the claim.

The IG, who spoke on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, declared that every promotion exercise including the recent accelerated promotion for some officers —was transparent, merit-based, and in strict conformity with established standards.

IGP Egbetokun made this known during the decoration ceremony of 19 newly promoted senior officers, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Mohammed Dan-Kwara, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze, Force Medical Director, and Commissioner of Police Nandel Gonwalk.

The police chief said recent attempts by “mischief makers” to discredit the promotion process were unfounded and aimed at tarnishing the image of the Force.

“In recent months, certain individuals have attempted to cast shadows on the credibility of our promotion process, particularly the accelerated exercise conducted a few months ago.

“But truth stands taller than rumours. The Nigeria Police Force has nothing to hide and nothing to defend.”

According to him, “We, police, will not be swayed by those who trade in falsehood or seek to undermine the integrity of our institution.

“Every promotion exercise under this administration has followed due process — transparent, merit-based, and in strict conformity with established standards.”

While congratulating the newly promoted officers, he described their elevation as a testament to excellence, integrity, and dedication to service.

“Today, we celebrate not just advancement in rank, but the affirmation of excellence, character, and distinguished service within the Nigeria Police Force.

“Every insignia worn at this level must represent not privilege, but purpose — a reminder that authority is meaningful only when it uplifts the institution and strengthens public trust.”

Egbetokun urged the officers to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility, leadership, and accountability.

“Leadership at this level demands equity, justice, and fairness — the enduring values that define true authority and inspire confidence within and beyond the Force.

“Your actions will set the tone for discipline, professionalism, and morale across the service. Lead with fairness, act with integrity, and let justice be your guiding light in your service to the public.”

Edo Gives Fmr. Deputy Gov Omobayo One Week Ultimatum To Return Govt Property

0
Omobayo Marvellous Godwins - New Edo Deputy Governor

By Ayodele Oni

Edo State Government has issued a one-week ultimatum to a former deputy governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Omobayo, to immediately return all government property and assets still in his possession.

Omobayo served as deputy to former Governor Godwin Obaseki after the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the state House of Assembly.

Officials described Omobayo’s tenure as “brief and illegitimate,” a reference to the tumultuous political saga that saw him sworn in as deputy in April 2024 following the impeachment of his predecessor, Philip Shaibu.

That impeachment was later voided by a Federal High Court in Abuja, leading to prolonged legal battles over the legitimacy of Omobayo’s role, which extended into late 2024.

With Obaseki’s term which endied on November 12, 2024, and Okpebholo assuming office shortly thereafter, the new government has wasted no time in addressing lingering issues of public property.

According to the official statement from the state government, multiple formal reminders have gone unheeded, prompting this escalated response.

“The continued retention of such property by any individual constitutes a clear breach of public trust and an unlawful possession of state assets,” the release stated, emphasizing that all items acquired or utilized during public service belong unequivocally to the people of Edo State.

Omobayo, a former Labour Party chieftain who aligned with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki, has been ordered to surrender the assets to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government within seven days from today.

Government, in a statement on Tuesday, pointed out that it observed with dismay that several official items, including vehicles, documents, and other State-owned assets assigned to Mr. Omobayo, during his brief tenure, are yet to be surrendered to the appropriate authorities, despite multiple formal reminders.

It stated that “The Edo State Government reiterates that all assets acquired or utilized in the course of public service remain the property of the State and must be duly returned upon cessation of office.

“The continued retention of such property by any individual constitutes a clear breach of public trust and an unlawful possession of state assets.

“Accordingly, Mr. Omobayo is hereby given a period of seven (7) days from the date of this release to comply fully by returning all government property under his custody to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

“Failure to comply within the stipulated period will compel the Government to direct the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, to effect his arrest and ensure the immediate recovery of all State assets still in his possession through lawful means.

“The Edo State Government remains committed to accountability, due process, and the protection of public property.

“No individual, regardless of former position or political affiliation, will be permitted to unlawfully appropriate or retain assets belonging to the people of Edo State.

“This administration, under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo, will continue to uphold the principles of transparency, discipline, and integrity in public service, ensuring that all public officers are held to the highest standards of responsibility and probity.

The Government urges Mr. Omobayo to respect this directive and avoid actions that could invite consequences or further embarrassment.

Wole Soyinka’s US Visa Revoked, Nobel Laureate Confused, Wonders Why

0
Professor Wole Soyinka

By Adesina Soyooye

The United States of America has revoked the Non Immigrant Visa it granted Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Professor Soyinka revealed the surprising situation Tuesday at a Media Briefing.

Soyinka said that with the revocation of his visa, his entry into the United States has become impossible.

At the Media parley he held at Kongi’s Harvest Gallery, Freedom Park, Lagos Island, Soyinka said he was not aware of any wrongdoing that  warranted the revocation.

He said:

“It is necessary for me to hold this conference so that people in the United States who are expecting me for this event or that event do not waste their time.

“I have no visa; I am banned, obviously, from the United States. And if you want to see me, you know where to find me,”

Soyinka says it is not clear to him why his visa was revoked, and was still in the dark as to why.

Soyinka said the US Consulate informed him of the revocation in a letter dated October 23, 2025 which reads in part:

“This letter serves as official notification by the United States Consulate General in Lagos that the Non Immigrant visa listed below has been revoked pursuant to the authority contained in U.S. Department of State regulations.”

It was issued by the NIV Section of the Consulate.

Soyinka, who said he was confused over the development, said:  “I’m still looking into my past history… I don’t have any past criminal record or even a felony or misdemeanour to qualify for the revocation.

“I’ve started looking back—have I ever misbehaved toward the United States of America? Do I have a history? Have I been convicted? Have I gone against the law anywhere?”

A Nigerian evening newspaper, PM News had on September 10, 2025, reported that Soyinka said he would not honour an invitation by the US Consulate in Nigeria for a visa re-interview,  scheduled for Thursday, September 11.

He disclosed to PM News in an interview while reacting to the recent invitation sent by the American Consulate to Nigerians holding B1/B2 visas, which asked them to appear for what it called a “visa interview.”

The Nobel Laureate’s visa is a B1/B2 category —a temporary, non-immigrant visa for travel to the United States for business (B-1) or tourism (B-2).

Soyinka said:

“I would like to begin by stressing the fact that, for me, this is not a personal issue. I have no idea how you got to know. By the way, I also received the letter, which at first I thought was fake. I thought it came from scammers who prey on those eager to get visas elsewhere, promising to deliver them for a certain amount. I thought they had simply picked my name among others, knowing there was a list of invitees.

“So, at first, I thought it was advance-fee fraud because I had never received that kind of letter from that or any other embassy. I even thought that maybe AI had been generating generic letters. It was very strange.

“So, by the time I came to terms with the fact that the letter was genuine, my mind went to my relationship with individual ambassadors, Consuls General, and Cultural Attachés. As you know, it has always been a courteous relationship,” Soyinka told PM News in September.

Recall, however, that Soyinka had in 2015, threatened he would tear his US Green Card if then Candidate Donald Trump won. It was not made public when he tore it. But, he obviously did since his revoked Visa is the B1/B2 category.

During the immediate past US Presidential election, Professor Soyinka was, also, among the many Nobel Laureates against his candidacy and/or victory.

Edo PDP Charges Gov Okpebholo To Adopt Security Strategy Of Predecessor

0
Governor Monday Okpebholo

By Ayodele Oni

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Monday Okpebholo-led administration of  lacking in direction.

“The government has stalled governance, and erased progress made by the Godwin Obaseki-led administration in land administration and reforms, civil service reforms, urban renewal projects, the drive to open Edo State to more private investors to spur economic growth and progress.

The newly elected publicity secretary of the party, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, made the remark at his inaugural meeting with members of the press at the state secretariat in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

According to the PDP scribe, “the mandate stolen from the people in 2024 remains a moral wound, but the PDP will focus on rebuilding trust and preparing for 2027.”

He called on Governor Okpebholo, to adopt the Security pattern left behind by the immediate past Governor Obaseki to mitigate the spate of kidnapping and other security challenges presently confronting the state.

Ogbegie, who pointed out that governance was continual, counseled Governor Okpebholo to improve on the security situation and other policies he inherited from Obaseki.

He noted that Edo people will be victims of such policy sumasualts as is presently being experienced in the wave of insecurity in the state with the abandonment of the security structure he met on assumption of office.

“Edo is in a dangerous season of governance by propaganda and incompetence under the APC.

“The PDP will not just be criticising, but proposing alternative policies rooted in the Constitution, justice, and the people’s welfare.

“I appeal for objectivity and courage in reporting Edo’s realities. Do not let fear or favour compromise your professional ethics.

“The press must tell Edo people the truth, not sponsored narratives. The PDP respects freedom of the press and will defend it whenever threatened.

“Our responsibility as Edo people is clear — to rescue truth from propaganda, competence from mediocrity, and hope from the ashes of bad governance. Together with the media, we will do just that”, he concluded

Assault On Staff: Lagos Polo Club Bans Chief Okeowo From Premises

0
Chief Olu Okeowo

By Adesina Soyooye

The high profile Lagos Polo Club, founded in 1904, has descended heavily on a high profile member of the public. It has banned Chief Olu Okeowo “from entry into the Club premises either as a guest or otherwise until further notice.”

The otherwise respected Chief Okeowo attracted the anger of the Club when his Security Aides descended on a staff member for performing his duties.

Trouble started on Saturday, October 18, 2025, during an event – Reminiscent Event – which was held at the Club.

Chief Okeowo was a guest.

The Chief, it was gathered, attended the event in his Rolls Royce. His driver, this medium gathered, made to park the luxurious car at “members only enclosure”. But he was asked not to by a Club’s staff member identified as Pascal. But that did not go down well with the Chief’s Security aides who were angered that somebody dared stop the luxurious car, with the Chief inside it, from parking on the spot.

Before one could say a word, the security aides jumped down from their hilux, and, descended on the poor staff.

But, Chief Okeowo was in for a surprise. The humiliated staff reported to his superior identified as Kenny Aliu, who, on seeing the state of the staff, allegedly asked the Chief out of the premises.

The ugly incident was, thereafter, reported to the Main Committee of the Club which, after a thorough investigation, banned the Chief from the Club until further notice.

The letter banning him, signed by the Honourable Secretary, Adeyemi Oreagba, noted, among other things that “The Club places great importance on the welfare and dignity of all Club Staff who are empowered to enforce Club policies”  It added: “We will have zero tolerance on any form of assault by members and guests against any staff of the Club.”

Following the full text:

ASSAULT ON MEMBER OF OUR STAFF

Dear Members,

The Main Committee wishes to inform members that during the Reminisce Event held at the Club on Saturday, 18th October 2025, a member of our staff while performing his duty was assaulted by the security personnel of a guest.

The matter was promptly brought to the attention of the Main Committee. The committee has since engaged the persons involved as well as other members present and duly confirmed its occurrence. In view of this, the Committee has resolved to ban the guest “Chief Olu Okeowo” from entry into the club premises, either as a guest or otherwise until further notice.

“Members are reminded that the conduct and actions of their guests, security personnel, domestic staff, and associates within the Club premises remain their responsibility.

“The Club places great importance on the welfare and dignity of all Club staff, who are duly empowered to enforce Club policies. We therefore request the continued cooperation and understanding of all members in upholding the standards and values of our Club.

“We will have zero tolerance on any form of assault by members and guests against any staff of the club.

“Regards.

To Gov. Uzodimma: “Your Excellency, You Are A Good Man, But…”

0
Chinedu Agu and Hope Uzodimma

By Chinedu Agu

Good afternoon and happy new week, Your Excellency.

I have just returned from my 28-day advanced training at the Owerri Prisons [pardon me, the Correctional Centre] on Tuesday, 21st October 2025. I must thank Your Excellency most sincerely for that profound opportunity for intense learning and civic exposure.

That remarkable period of confinement also served as a classroom for the entire Nigerian legal community, where a new doctrine emerged — The Njemanzery Doctrine, — a bold reinvention of remand jurisprudence under which adjournments may now exceed the statutory 14 days prescribed by the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Imo State. It is also the doctrine under which a lawyer of known address and pedigree in the jurisdiction can be denied bail in a bailable offence, and a Deputy Chief Registrar who suspended sitting upon appointment as a DCR, may suddenly resume his judicial roles.

This season of “training” also yielded a groundbreaking unveiling of an unteachable jurisprudence from the Federal High Court, Owerri, called The Wigwe-prudence, which teaches that bail, a constitutional right, cannot be granted in the absence of an information or charge before the court. These great innovations, which were midwifed under your benevolent government, have enriched our jurisprudence and will remain etched in legal history for generations.

For these remarkable lessons, I am grateful, Your Excellency. I stand ready, if so appointed, to attend future “training sessions,” that even more doctrines may be launched into the legal space.

Upon my return to the outside world, I was greeted by encouraging news from our justice sector. An Acting Chief Judge was finally sworn-in, and an Attorney-General appointed, both on 26th September 2025, a day after my incarceration. I have also noticed, Your Excellency, that many of the roads mentioned in my “defamatory articles” are now receiving attention. That, too, is a commendable response, sir.

Your Excellency, I have recently heard from many that you are indeed a good man with a large heart. The stories insist that the real problem lies with those around you; men and women who profit from your missteps by telling you only what your ears yearn for. I therefore urge you to read this letter privately. And if ever you need to deconstruct its content, do not consult these same men and women who will read defamation and cybercrime into this innocuous piece. Only then will you appreciate the benign intention and patriotic concern behind these words.

While your recent appointments in the justice sector are a welcome step, they remain a mere scratch on the surface of a much deeper wound. The judiciary of Imo State is still gasping for breath, trapped under the rubble of neglect and executive manipulation.

The legal community is alarmed at the sudden appearance of a High Court (Amendment) Law 2022, discovered only three weeks ago, which provides in its Section 42(2) that “where there is no substantive Chief Judge, the Chief Registrar shall assign case files.” This curious law offends Section 271(4) of the Constitution, which clearly provides that an Acting Chief Judge shall perform the functions of a substantive Chief Judge in his absence. Many view this as an execu-lature gimmickry [gimmicks of the executive and legislature] and are forced to ask: where was this law when the former Acting Chief Judge assigned cases earlier this year? And, why has the Chief Registrar not been assigning cases after the immediate past Acting Chief Judge was removed?

Given the long, dramatic delay before the current Acting Chief Judge’s appointment and swearing-in, one cannot but find this legislative miracle suspicious. And it is equally strange that of all possible legislative priorities, the Imo House of Assembly found the “assignment of cases” most urgent.

To worsen this gimmickry, there are rumours that the non-statutory members of the Judicial Service Commission have resigned, leaving the vital machinery of the judiciary in partial paralysis until Your Excellency decides to reconstitute it.

Your Excellency, I wish to draw your attention to another bleeding wound: the plight of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Imo State Chapter.

They have just suspended a strike embarked upon a week ago. For one week, the courts remained closed and the wheels of justice firmly stuck. Their grievances are not mere complaints; they are cries for dignity:

  1. Non-payment of parts of their salary arrears;
  2. Exclusion from the new minimum wage increment;
  3. Non-capture of 80% of retired judiciary staff since 2019;
  4. Absence of an approved salary structure for judiciary workers; and
  5. Exclusion from incentive and welfare schemes.

Your Excellency, it bears reminding that JUSUN members are the lifeblood of the judiciary. They are the bolts and nuts of the justice system. Without them, judges and magistrates cannot function, and justice cannot flow. A state that neglects its judiciary staff undermines not only its courts but the very foundations of its democracy.

If civil servants were to be paid according to the sensitivity and impact of their work, judiciary staff would rank among the highest paid. To treat them as second-class workers is to treat justice itself as a dispensable luxury.

I implore Your Excellency to address their grievances decisively and permanently. Anything short of a holistic resolution will be a bandage on a festering wound.

The plight of Law Officers in the Ministry of Justice is no less disturbing. These are the lawyers who represent the State and defend its policies in court. They are the voice of government in the temple of justice, yet they have become its most neglected servants.

Their September 2025 salaries were mysteriously slashed, with over ₦100,000 deducted per officer. Instead of benefiting from the new minimum wage, they have lost the meagre allowances that made their work bearable. Some still have unpaid salaries dating back to 2015 and 2020.

Your Excellency, these officers fund their official duties from their personal earnings: typing and printing of voluminous processes, transporting witnesses to court, and travelling to distant courts at their own expense. To deny them fair remuneration is to starve justice at its source.

Law Officers are the government’s in-house counsel, the protectors of the State’s legal integrity. They do not seek privilege, they seek only fairness.

And what shall we say of our Judicial Officers; the magistrates and judges who daily dispense justice in your name?

Many magistrates still commute to court in public transport, sharing vehicles with litigants and defendants, sometimes traveling to volatile areas without security or official vehicles. Their last allocation of official cars dates back to 2015 —vehicles so modest they were once nicknamed “KekeNapep on four wheels.” Yet not everyone got, only less than thirty percent of them. None of the Magistrates appointed in 2019 has any official car. They commute in public vehicles. This is infradig for a judicial officer.

The salaries of Magistrates in the State have been constant since 2019. Promotions have come without corresponding salary adjustments. A Senior Magistrate in 2025 still earns the same salary as when first appointed in 2019. The same story applies to judges; many without functional official cars, working in unconducive courthouses under poor conditions.

A poorly treated judicial officer is a danger to democracy. When justice is impoverished, corruption finds fertile ground.

Your Excellency, a government’s character is also measured by how it treats its justice system. For it is the judiciary that sustains law, and law that sustains civilization.

Yes, some solar panels have been mounted on court buildings and the B.A. Njemanze Pavilion repainted; a commendable gesture. But much of the Magistrate Court complex remains a relic of decay. The High Court and Magistrate Court complexes need asphalting. The road rehabilitation in the High Court area abruptly ends at West Brook Hotel Junction, leaving the court approach in disrepair. The Magistrate Court complex was anticipating a face-lift when the structures at the Judicial Service Commission received a face-lift.

The judiciary of Imo State remains, quite frankly, on life support.

Your Excellency, Thursday, 30th October 2025 — the Assizes of the Imo State Judiciary — presents a golden opportunity. At that event, Chief Judges and judicial offficers from across Nigeria will be present and watching. The question is not whether you will speak, but what you will say.

If your address fails to acknowledge and commit to resolving these issues, it will confirm the widespread belief that this administration has little regard for the judiciary. But if you speak and act with courage and compassion, you will write your name in gold as the governor who revived justice in Imo State. Do not delegate this duty on that day. Be present!

Disregard the sycophants who tell you all is well. History will not remember them. It will remember you; the Governor who either restored or ruined the soul of justice in this State.

Your Excellency, the judiciary is the conscience of government, the custodian of order, and the foundation of every democracy. To ignore its cries is to endanger the very peace and progress of Imo State.

I therefore implore you: heed the call of justice, empower its workers, restore its dignity, and let Imo State rise again as a beacon of law and fairness.

Dispense with the flatterers, and save your legacy from infamy.

Yours sincerely,

Godswill Akpabio, Senate President.

By Ayodele Oni

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has referred a letter from President Bola Tinubu seeking confirmation of the newly appointed Service Chiefs to the committee of the whole for screening and confirmation of the nominees, next week.

President Bola Tinubu had written to the Senate, seeking the screening and subsequent confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs.

The President’s letter was read on Tuesday by the President of the Senate.

According to the letter, the Service Chiefs are Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye.

They were named last week by the president as replacements to the former officers in a major sake up announced by the president.

Only Major Gen Emmanuel Undiendeye retained his position of Chief of defence intelligence in the shake Up.
