Bizarre: Lady With 38 Children Becomes The Most Fertile Woman In The World

0

This sounds unrealistic and unbelievable. But Mariam Nabatanzi, has defied the odds to put her name in the Guinness Book of World Records.

At just 39 years of age, Mariam, a single mother, has 38 Children in her bosom.

This basically is bizarre, but Mariam flaunts her God-given treasure, despite living in abject poverty. She is joyful of having such large number of Children in her arms.

No doubt, Mariam will be regarded as the world’s most fertile woman and although making ends meet is a challenge, this single mom adores her brood.

Ever since she was a little girl, she’d wanted lots of babies to help ease the pain of a childhood shrouded in abandonment and death.

Six kids were her ideal number, she thought, enough to fill the house and her heart.

But by the time Mariam had been pregnant six times she was already the mother of 18 kids and things didn’t stop there.

Over the past 26 years this 39-year-old Ugandan woman has given birth to six sets of twins, four sets of triplets and five sets of quadruplets.

Of the 44 children Mariam brought into the world, six died from complications that often arise from multiple births. Today she has 38 kids, making her  Africa’s most fertile women.

Using oral contraceptives isn’t an option for Mariam because they aggravate a hormonal condition she has.

Raising her big brood has been tough on the single mother, whose husband walked out on her and the kids three years ago.

“All my time has been spent looking after my children and working to earn some money,” Mariam said.

She manages to put food on the table by turning her hand to everything: hairdressing, event decorating, collecting and selling scrap metal, brewing local gin and selling herbal medicine.

It takes up to 25kg of maize meal to feed her family for just one day, she says, so she hustles to make sure her kids don’t go to bed hungry. Fish or meat are rare treats.

The money she makes from her many jobs is swallowed by staple food, medical care, clothing, school fees and keeping a roof over their heads.

The older children help look after the young ones while Mariam works, and everyone chips in with chores such as cooking and cleaning the house.

Her eldest son, Ivan Kibuka (23) had to drop out of secondary school when she couldn’t afford to pay his fees.

He does what he can to ease his mother’s load but it’s Mariam who endures the backbreaking pressure of supporting so many people.

“Mom is overwhelmed. The work is crushing her. We help where we can, but she still carries the whole burden for the family. “I feel for her.”

Mariam’s desire for a big family has its roots in tragedy. Three days after she was born, her mother abandoned her, her father and her five siblings.

“She just left us,” she said somberly.

Her father remarried but Mariam claims her stepmother killed her siblings by mixing crushed glass into their food.

Mariam escaped because she was visiting a relative at the time.

“I was seven years old then, too young to even understand what death actually meant,” Mariam said. Five years later, her father and stepmom married her off to a man 28 years her senior. At age 13, Mariam gave birth to twins.

After her first set of twins were born, Mariam went to a doctor who told her she had unusually large ovaries and advised that birth control like the pill might cause health problems.

Although she wanted children, at one point it all became too much, and Mariam took the risk and used an intrauterine contraceptive device.

She started bleeding and was hospitalised for six months, she told Al Jazeera.

“The doctor said my hormones weren’t compatible with family planning.”

So, the children kept coming. Now Mariam’s family is believed to be the biggest in Uganda, where the fertility rate averages out at 5,6 children per woman.

In her home village of Kabimbiri, she’s known as Nalongo Muzaala Bana (the twin mother that produces quadruplets).

Her father had 45 children with several women, and they all came in sets of twins, triplets, quadruplets and quintuplets, she said.

Dr Charles Kiggundu, a gynaecologist at Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, confirmed Mariam’s extreme fertility is hereditary.

“Her case is a genetic predisposition to hyper-ovulate (releasing multiple eggs in one menstrual cycle), which significantly increases the chance of having multiples,” he told Ugandan newspaper the Daily Monitor.

The single mom and her 38 kids live in a set of four cramped houses made of cement blocks and topped with corrugated iron in a village surrounded by coffee fields about an hour outside the capital, Kampala.

Twelve children sleep on metal bunk beds with thin mattresses in one small room.

In the other rooms, some kids are lucky enough to pile onto shared mattresses while the rest sleep on the dirt floor.

Portraits of some of the children proudly graduating from school hang on one wall.

A roster on a small wooden board nailed to another wall spells out washing and cooking duties. “On Saturday we all work together,” it reads.

Many hands may make light work, but Mariam admits she nearly reached breaking point when her husband abandoned her three years ago.

To compound matters, she had just given birth to her last set of twins and one of the babies had died in childbirth.

“My man put me through a lot of suffering,” she told Reuters, clasping her hands as tears welled up. “He was violent and would beat me at any opportunity.

Despite the fact that it’s an arduous task, she’s happy to be raising her kids on her own.

“I started taking on adult responsibilities at an early stage and I have grown up in tears.

It’s not easy to take care of my children but I made it easy because they are my children. “I will never abandon them. I love them.”

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, has finally won the ‘fierce battle’. Waziri Bulama has been appointed the National Publicity Secretary of the Party.

For months, it has been alignment and re-alignment in the APC fold over the choice of the  Bulama. A group was against the appointment. But  Oshiomhole stood behind Bulama, leading to series of controversies that stalled the appointment of the APC Spokesperson.

Bulama has, however, finally taken the oath of office as the new acting National Secretary of the ruling APC.

The swearing-in ceremony which took place at the party national secretariat on Monday, was conducted by Oshiomhole. It had governors of Borno and Gombe in attendance.

Responding, the new national secretary said he has no agenda of his own, promising to work with other party executives to move the party forward.

Group Asks EFCC To Probe Oshiomhole

A group, Alliance for Collective Progress, has called on the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to probe alleged breach of the state public procurement law in the execution of the contract of Edo state special hospital awarded by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole when he was governor of the state.

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, has raised a Judicial panel in January this year headed by Justice James Oyomire (retd) to probe the contract. The commission has indicted the former governor.

According to the leader of the group, Nehemiah Omogiate, the call has become necessary following Oshiomhole’s indictment.

“We are here to register grievances concerning the Multi-billion Naira Edo specialist Hospital, a project that President Muhammadu Buhari was deceived to inaugurate four years ago”, he said, saying that they are aware that the Panel of inquiry set up by Godwin Obaseki indicted him.

“Up till now, the EFCC has not done anything about it”, he continued.

They have not officially petitioned EFCC.

But Omogiate insisted that the Hospital was commissioned four years ago without equipment. According to him, the equipment was borrowed to give a semblance of having equipment purchased for the use of the hospital.

“We learned that the report indicted the governor for mobilizing the contractor with 75% of the contract sum which exceeded the 25% fee for mobilization for contractors”.

Head, Public Affairs, EFCC, Benin zone, Williams Oseghale, advised them to submit a petition.

“I have heard you”, he said, “and I am going to take the message back to the management. But I advise that you also send us a written petition.”

But another group, Edo state coalition for good governance and internal democracy called the panel findings ultra vires and of no effect, claiming that the matter is already before a competent court. They claim that the certificate of completion, supply, and installation of medical equipment at the hospital was issued on September 11, 2018, when governor Obaseki was already in power.

No Force On Earth Can Destroy Our Love-Ooni Of Ife’s Wife; Debunks Divorce Rumours

Olori Silekunola Naomi and Adeyeye

By Akinwale Kasali

Less than three years after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, parted ways with his ex-wife, Olori Zainab, rumours are rife that the revered Monarch of the Yoruba race is on the verge of divorcing his wife, Olori Silekunola Naomi Ogunwusi.

This came as a shock to many. Sources say it may have emanated from the fact that the Ooni is hardly seen in public with his Olori. He goes alone, and the young, beautiful Olori is hardly seen by his side.

But the Wife of the Monarch has debunked it as a mere rumour that  holds no water, saying that no force on earth is capable of destroying the love she and the Ooni share.

Olori Silekunola described the rumour in the media, especially the social media, as laughable.

The celebrated  Olori  made the clarification on Monday, through a social media post, urging her lovers to disregard the falsehood as she and her husband (Ooni Ogunwusi) are fine, happy and healthy.

“There have been strange rumours and unfounded news making rounds on social media in recent times. I want all believers of good news to know that it is all lies, and a picture of how the peddlers of the evil news would have loved our love story to turn out.

“I would have loved to maintain silence, however, due to concerns being expressed by well meaning people something has to be said.

“Now, the gospel truth is that I have been busy with my ministry, and off the social media space, and you’d all agree with me that with the ongoing pandemic which suddenly sprung up on all of us, only means more work needs to be done. I can’t sit still (as nobody privileged enough should) and this isn’t a time for social media presence but a time that calls for solemnity. Hence my break from what people now called normal.

“Finally, as duty will have me do, I have been in and out of the palace doing God’s bidding. With all being said, I am compelled to ask the following questions.

“Why can’t people verify that which is the truth ? Why do people believe more in falsehood and negativity?

“Well, the Bible has something to say about them in Psalm 2:1-12.

“Now I say to you all, please disregard and jettison every fake and malicious news about me and my husband (Ooni Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi) for ours is a love no earthly force is strong enough to break. We are very fine and healthy

“I will leave you with this: Please be comforted and know that boredom is a killer and people do unimaginable things when they are.”

Olori Silekunola posted this statement on her Social Media pages and handles.

By Akinwale Kasali

In a move to navigate the way forward through the lockdown, Social distancing and restriction of movement that have religious centers under lock for weeks , the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu held a virtual meeting with Religious Leaders, as part of efforts towards curbing the spread of Coronavirus in Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the pandemic as a global scourge, noting sadly that the Lenten and Ramadan periods fell within the lockdown phase, which had a toll on both religions.

Sanwo-Olu briefed the leaders on government efforts since the first index case in Lagos, stressing that the State was already on alert immediately the news about the virus broke in China in December 2019 based on experience during the Ebola virus.

He, however, disclosed that the infection and transmission of the virus is now spreading at the community level, hence the urgent need to sensitise religious leaders due to their followership in the State, either as Christians or Muslims.

The Governor reiterated that the “0 – Congregation” stance of Government for religious worship centres is still in force to ensure physical distancing, adding that all hands must be on deck to do more sensitisation and monitoring to complement government efforts.

Sanwo-Olu, therefore, called for continued support and prayers of the Religious Leaders to successfully navigate this perilous period.

In his contribution, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Lagos State Branch, Apostle (Prof.) Alexander Bamgbola, thanked the Governor for being proactive, dogged and pragmatic in his approach to the situation which, he believes, has saved so many lives.

He promised that the Christian leaders in the State will continue to support the efforts of the State Government in sensitising and enlightening their followers on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on behalf of the Islamic leaders, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheik (Engr.) Suleiman Abu-Nolla, described this period as a time of collective survival when the government and religious leaders must work hand-in-hand to ensure the survival of all.

Some of the notable religious leaders present during the virtual meeting with the Governor included Pastor W.F. Kumuyi (Deeper life), Pastor Joseph Obayemi (RCCG), Dr. D.K. Olukoya (MFM), Rev. Mrs. Mercy Ezekiel (CPM), Amb. Mrs. Elizabeth Onajobi of WOWICAN, His Eminence Samuel Kanu Uche and other leaders in the five Christian Bloc and CAN Executives.

Also present were Imam Dr. Abdulrahman Ahmad (Chief Missioner, Ansaru-deen), Sheik Abdulhakeem Lawal, Imam Abdul Akeem Lawal, Dr. (Mrs) Egberongbe of FOMWAN, Sheik Uwais, Chief Imams of the various Divisions of the State, MSSN and other top religious leaders in Lagos.

COVID 19: LASG Mulls Total Reopening In Matter Of Days

0

By Tosin Olatokunbo

The Lagos state government could no longer afford to continue with the partial lockdown of the state as the action has brought untold hardship to residents and businesses, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has said.

The governor said a decision has now been reached to fully re-open the state for business in a matter of days.

Sanwo-Olu however, said the level of compliance with safety measures rolled out by the state to stop the spread of the corona virus pandemic will determine next line of action.

The measures include social distancing and regular hand washing in public and private places.

The state’s helmsman who stated this after the State’s Security Council meeting held at the State House in Marina on Sunday, said security operatives have been directed to enforce total compliance. .

A statement from the government quoted said officials from the Lagos State Safety Commission and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency would visit restaurants, companies, religious houses to assess their level of readiness.

It said “We are reviewing and considering how the phased unlocking will happen. If we see a huge level of compliance, then it can happen in the next two to three weeks.

If not, it could take a month or two months. It is until we are sure all of these players are ready to conform to our guidelines,” the Governor added,

With the size of the state’s economy and numbers of businesses that operate in its domain, the governor said the Lagos could not afford to keep people and businesses on lockdown permanently.”

The governor stated that , “We are at a level where we are reviewing the other arms of the economy. In the coming days, we will be starting what we call Register-to-Open, which means all players in the restaurant business, event centres, entertainment, malls, and cinemas will go through a form of re-registration and space management.

There is a regulation that will be introduced to supervise this move. We will be coming to their facilities to assess their level of readiness for a future opening.

I don’t know when that opening will happen in the weeks ahead, but we want these businesses to begin to tune themselves to the reality of COVID-19 with respect to how their work places need to look like.

For us, it is not to say they should re-open fully tomorrow or any time; there has to be a process guiding the re-opening.

We will be mandating LASEPA and Safety Commission to begin the enumeration process and the agencies will be communicating with all relevant businesses and houses in the days ahead.

I must, however, caution that this should not be misinterpreted as a licence for full opening; it is certainly not. The State’s economy is not ready for that now.”

Meanwhile, the magazine learnt that pressure has seriously been mounted on the state government by various business and political leaders to re-open the state following similar decision by other state governments across the country.

For instance, Borno, Yobe and Ebonyi state governors, had last week, ordered a total re-opening of their states.

Ondo: Guber Battle Intensifies, Opposition Against Akeredolu Collapses

By Faith Okoli

The groundswell of opposition against the re-election bid of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state appears to be falling apart.

Last week, a group, Unity Forum, headed by Ali Olanusi, a former deputy in the state, announced Olusola Oke as the consensus APC candidate for the September governorship election.

But few days after, some members of the group have said they have nothing to do with that decision, insisting that Oke had a pact with Governor Akeredolu to support him back to the Alagbaka Government House as a two-time governor.

Ajayi Borofice, a senator leading the support for the state’s helmsman bid for re-election said Oke has proven to be a traitor after reneging on his earlier support for the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN to get re-elected for another four-year term.

But oke, a former governorship candidate of the PDP is not ready to back down on the mandate, he claimed, the Unity Forum, conferred on him as APC flag-bearer for the upcoming election.

The Chief Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, on Sunday, in Akure the state capital, in a statement described the allegation that he had any pact with Governor Akeredolu as false.

The statement signedby the coordinator of the group, Rotimi Ogunleye, Senator Boroffice, a member of the Unity Forum is only trying to undermine the decision of the forum’s members to return Oke as APC guber candidate.

Ogunleye said the claim that Oke had a pact with the governor to support him for another term is untrue.

The statement said “We have listened to the complaints and issues raised by some governorship aspirants in the APC Unity Forum and one of the leaders of the forum, Senator Ajayi Boroffice.

While it is the legitimate right of any member of the forum to make comment about the report, we wish to express deep concern about the statement made by Senator Ajayi Boroffice, who on a radio programme alleged that the adopted aspirant of the Unity Forum, Chief Oke, has a pact with Governor Akeredolu; that Chief Oke will step down in a week to the APC primary.

The senator alleged further that Akeredolu has promised to hand over to him in return.”

Borofice is just trying to rubbish the integrity of Oke by peddling falsehood against him.

The statement further said “The Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation takes exemption to the statement made by the distinguished Senator. There is no iota of truth in the statement.

It is meant to denigrate the person of Chief Olusola Oke. The senator and indeed everybody know that only God has the power of the promise of the future. It lies not in the hands of man.

While we will not begrudge him for expressing dissent opinion about the decision of the leadership of the forum, we are unable to accept a statement which Senator Boroffice knew or ought to know was a blatant falsehood.

Why the distinguished senator chose to peddle such unfortunate and unfounded falsehood is yet unknown to us.”

The Oke Campaign Organisation said it will abide by the final decision of the party on the issue.

We “wish to state unequivocally that we shall respect the leaders of APC and we shall not waiver on our commitment to the collective struggle of the Unity Forum,” it said.

Meanwhile, Segun Abraham, a leading APC governorship aspirant has disclosed that he’s not part of the decision to make Oke the party’s consensus candidate.

He described Oke as a political harlot that cannot be trusted with the party’s mandate.

PDP: Kashamu Mocks Secondus, Says The Party Chair Can’t Expel Him

Buruji Kashamu

By Tosin Olatokunbo

Senator Buruji Kashamu, former representing Ogun East in the National Assembly is seriously fighting to ward off his suspension from the PDP and retain his membership of the largest opposition in Nigeria.

A federal high court in Abuja, recently stopped the federal government from extraditing him to the United States of America, USA where he’s wanted on allegations of money laundering.

The dust of that victory was yet to settled when the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus warned the bulky politician and Sponsor of Omo Ilu Foundation, that he’s no longer the member of the party.

The controversial senator is also currently embroiled in a battle to control the soul of PDP in his home state, Ogun.

In spite of the vicious attacks from all sides, the politician said he will fight, anyone trying to expel him from the party to the very end, insisting that he remained a bona fide member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), contrary to the position of his party.

According to a statement by Austin Oniyokor, his spokesman, the senator said his party cannot overrule a court order that nullified his expulsion.

The Senator said the subsisting orders have neither been appealed nor upturned.

Kashamu said “Before the 2019 general election, an FCT High Court on October 10, 2018 nullified my expulsion.

“The court described it as ‘an act done in gross and wilful violation of an express order of court made on the 9th of January, 2018, directing parties to keep and maintain status quo and in particular not to carry out any disciplinary action…without first having recourse to this court.”

The court went further to rule that ‘the said letter of the expulsion of four persons made by the respondents hereof on the 1st of August, 2018 is hereby set aside and declared null, void and of no effect, in that it was made in gross violation of the aforesaid subsisting Order of Court.’”

He said the order restraining ogun state party chairman, Adedayo Bayo, from expelling him from the party is also binding on the party at the national level.

The senator accused Dayo of being behind current his travailss with the party.

Kashamu said Dayo “is the former State Chairman, Adebayo Dayo, who is now in league with those Prince Secondus is siding with.

.Thus, the judgment remains valid, subsisting and binding on the PDP; any contrary view again will be contemptuous of the court.”

He scoffed at the PDP chairman, insisting that he remained a bona fide member of the PDP.

“So, for these reasons, as a former member of the National Executive Committee of the PDP and an automatic member of the State Executive Committee, I remain a bonafide and financial member of the PDP in Ogun State,”  Kashamu said.
