COVID-19: NAFDAC Faults News On PAX HERBAL Clinic, Says No Herbal Drug Approval Yet

NAFDAC

By Charles Igbo

The National Agency For Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC, has faulted the news which made the rounds on Saturday that it has approved  the use of a herbal medicine, PAX HERBAL, for the management of COVID-19.

NAFDAC said it only approved it as ‘safe to use’, and never confirmed  its efficacy for the treatment of the COVID-19, describing the news as wrong and inaccurate.

The founder of PAX HERBAL Clinic, Ewu, Rev. Fr. Dr. Anselem Adodo, in an internal memo, celebrated the feat of the Clinic , saying that the drugs had gone through all processes.

But NAFDAC said in a statement signed by its DG, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, that although the Agency  is evaluating 21 Herbal Drugs for the management of COVID-19, it has not approved any of them as none has gone through Clinical trials with human beings.

According to the DG, “NAFDAC is currently  processing 21 herbal medicinal products, for safe use or Listing Status.

“Many of the applicants say their products are immune boosters and, anti-effective, useful for relief of symptoms that could be associated with COVID-19.

PAXHERBAL

“However, no clinical study has been done yet on any of the products to  prove their claim of efficacy.

“Listing Status involves the review of the composition of the formulation, the labelling of the product, the process of manufacture, and “safe to use” testing.

Pax Herbal applied for the listing of Pax  Herbal Cugzin capsul 290mg which was approved by NAFDAC, and listed as “safe to use.”

“The applicant claimed that it is an immune booster, and an anti-ineffective. However, as part of the labelling of the product, and in line with global practice, a disclaimer is on the product label which clearly States that the claims have not been evaluated by NAFDAC.

“Therefore, the statements circulating in the media that NAFDAC has approved the treatment of COVID-19 with the Herbal medicine is not accurate”

WTO Job: Okonjo-Iweala Laments Plot By Powerful Nigerians To Stop Her

By Fola James

Contesting with eight candidates for the position of Director General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO is not the worry of Dr Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria’s nomination for the post.

The biggest opposition to her quest to mount the saddle of the world’s trade body, the former minister for Finance said is coming from powerful Nigerians, who she accused of frustrating her ambition.

Apart from the United Kingdom, UK which has surprisingly nominated Dr Liam Fox as its candidate seven other candidates are bent on squaring it out with Dr Okonjo-Iweala during the election slated for later this year.

The African continent is also divided on the candidacy of the former minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

Three candidates from the continent are in the race.

But the minister said her biggest worries are powerful and well-connected forces compatriots working against her candidacy.

These persons, she said have been peddling lies just to destroy her reputation.

Okonjo-Iweala whose spoke through her media adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, said her enemies would leave nothing to chance to make her lose the world’s top job.

Nwabuikwu said, “It has come to our attention that there is an ongoing effort by some well-connected Nigerians to sabotage the campaign of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the country’s candidate for Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.  Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala”

She said “As part of this campaign, these persons and their cohorts are peddling outright lies and distortions designed to invent a non-existent scandal in order to paint the candidate and her campaign in negative light.

They have taken the campaign to the media, she said, urging well meaning Nigerians to ignore “The attempt by these elements to manufacture a controversy in the local and international media by distorting the facts and creating falsehoods to link the campaign with some of Mercury’s current or past clients to push a false impression is contemptible.

It is sad that the elements behind this campaign are placing their squalid concerns above the interests of the country.

We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to ignore this condemnable effort.”

Apart from Dr Fox others jostling for the job are Ms Amina C.Mohammed (Kenya), Mohammad Maziad Al-Tuwaijri (Saudi Arabia), Ms Yoo Myung-hee (Republic of Korea), Tudor Ulianovschi (Moldova) and Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh (Egypt)

One of the candidates will replace Roberto Azevedo as director general.

A top official of the Federal Government is among those that were whisked away by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ekiti state at the weekend.

The official, whose driver was shot, and one other person, was among travelers along Isinbode- Omuo highway that were unlucky to have ran into the gunmen.

The gunmen, who were said to be not less than 10, first started their operation at a wood industry in Isinbode- where they kidnapped one person, who later escaped from them.

The vehicle in which the official, who is a Deputy Director in a Federal Ministry, ran into them during which the driver was shot and the official taken away.

Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, while giving an insight into the incident, said it happened on Friday evening saying the Police were on the trail of the criminals.

He noted that the driver who was shot has been rescued to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Only about a month ago, a Commissioner in the state, Mr Folorunso and a lady he was traveling with, were kidnapped along Isan – Iludun road.

The driver of the vehicle they were traveling in, who was the Leader of the Legislative arm of Ilejemeje local government, was shot dead while trying to escape.

As part of measures to check activities of hoodlums in the state, the regional security outfit,  Amotekun, has commenced recruitment of personnel.

Malami Says Allegation Of N300 Million House For Son Blatant Lie, Mischievous, Perfidious

Abubakar Malami Son Wedding

By Akinwale Kasali

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice,  Abubakar Malami, SAN, has dismissed as wicked and mischievous, the viral story that he bought a N300 Million house for his son, who got married in Kano on Saturday, 11th July, 2020.

Malami, in a statement on his behalf by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, said he never purchased any house for his son in Abuja.

He said the wedding Fathia of the eldest son took place under strict observance of the protocols and guidelines of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, and he thanked friends, well-wishers and the general public for their prayers, goodwill for the wedding fatiha which took place Saturday, 11th July, 2020 in Kano.

He expressed appreciation for the understanding demonstrated due to COVID-19 pandamic the wedding fatiha  was low-keyed.

Earlier the Minister had communicated, in writing, notifying friends and colleagues that due to the current situation of COVID-19, he only solicited frr their prayers and goodwill.

“It is important to note that the wedding fatiha took place in Kano on Saturday 11th July, 2020 in the morning, and any other activity before or after the wedding fatiha is not connected with the marriage and we,  therefore, dissociate ourselves from it in its entirety.

“The attention of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has been drawn to a mischievous, deceitful and perfidious publication by the notorious

factory of fake news in Nigeria, the medium (namewitheld by us), with an intent to spread lies.

“It is regrettable that the information communication technology tools have been hijacked by disgruntled elements in spreading fake news and blatant lies.

“The report by the media is a clear violation of ethical journalism practices on verification of facts and authentication of claims. It evinces lack of professionalism, and exposes rash and reckless presentation of figment of imaginations shrouded with bigotry and bundled with sentiments of unscrupulous questions.

“For instance, who is the vendor of the purported house bought for the son of the Minister in Abuja at N300m? Where is the so-called mansion located in Abuja? Where are the title documents?

While refuting the claim, Malami said “God knows that I did not purchase any house for him in Abuja. Not even a rented house was secured for my son in Abuja, because he has no plan to live in Abuja”.

“The allegation of hiring private jets for the marriage was preposterous.

It is common knowledge that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had neither a father nor mother anywhere in Nigeria to be conveyed to Kano for the wedding. Who, then is the Attorney-General using the chartered flight to convey?  Which jets were chartered?  Who paid for the charter? Through which means was the money paid?

“It is one of such libelous publications of which the medium (again, namewithheld by us), is commonly known for targeting at select few for unsubstantiated fabricated allegations while overlooking more serious reasonable allegations visibly open against its favoured sectional kingsmen”, the statement said.

NDDC: How Akpabio Awarded 30 Contracts To Himself, Forced Me To Take Oath-Ex MD

0

By Tosin Olatokunbo

Until her removal by President Muhammadu Buhari in February this year as the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Joy Nunieh had everything working for her, particularly the forensic audit she set up to unravel how the N2 trillion budgetary allocations to the commission, since inception, was spent.

Along the line, Nunieh, the daughter of Ogoni first lawyer hit a brick wall with Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and her supervisory minister, which led to her sack as the head of Interim Management of NDDC.

Various allegations were later hauled at her, including that she frustrated the audit firm contracted by the federal government from doing its job.

But she barely had the opportunity to defend herself until recently when she appeared before a committee set up by the National Assembly to investigate an alleged N40 billion fraud in the multi-billion naira agency, after which she revealed to journalists in Abuja, how Akapabio run the commission as if it’s his personal possession.

Akpabio, she alleged had warned her on her first day in office, that the only way to remain in the lucrative position is to dance to his tunes, failure to which” the same pen that I used to sign your letter will be the same I will use to remove you.”

She was to learn the hard way that disobeying the minister was like stepping on the tiger’s tail.

Her first assignment, to test her loyalty, came when Akpabio directed  her to fire all the directors, considered by the minister to be insubordinate to his authority, including the Director of the legal unit because “we cannot have a northerner being head of legal unit,” Akpabio allegedly warned Nunieh.

She bluntly refused. The minister also allegedly told her to take a diabolical oath; approve multi-billion naira contracts without due process as well as signing a letter to implicate chairmen of the Senate and House Committee investigating fraud in the agency.

The magazine has titled the short, but heartrending interview “Akpabio Deceived Buhari To Sign Multi-billion NDDC contracts. Enjoy…

By Joy Nunieh

You cannot make any payment in NDDC without Akpabio’s approval. When we first came to NDDC on the day we were going for inauguration, he told me in the car, that madam MD, if you don’t do what I say the same pen which I used to sign your letter will be the same I will use to remove you”

He said the first thing I should do when I get to Port Harcourt is to change the dollars in NDDC Account. I was scared to do that. After that he came to Port Harcourt two days after the inauguration. He said the first thing I should do is to make sure I change the dollar, is to change Mr Katungo, head of legal and make sure I sent him on compulsory retirement, that we cannot have a northerner being head of legal unit.”

He said I should remove other directors that refused to take his instructions during the tenure of my predecessor.”

He came also with a draft which I submitted, that I should write, putting my letter head implicating Senator Nwobushi, for collecting contract in NDDC. I told him I will not because I’m a lawyer, that whoever allege must prove.

The fact that Senator Nwaoboshi is giving us trouble in IMC( Interim Management Committee)……..Remember also that they do not recognize the IMC, I said I would not do that letter. He said I was ungrateful.

And I refused to do the letter. Dr Cairo now said he would do the letter, that if Akpabio tells him to kill, he would kill before he asked why he killed.

I said for me, I would not do the letter. On that day there was Mr Etiebet who was the only staff present at that meeting.

When he finished he now asked Dr Cairo to send for a letter headed paper from the office. Dr Cairo now did the letter which I have also submitted to the committee, alleging that Senator Nwobushi had contracts. Then he said I must sign the cover letter, I said if I sign, any document signed by me seen by Mr President, he will believe every line of it.

I said I will only write that the EDP (Executive Director Project) who should know about project has done… The next thing, he told me that I must make sure that all these people here leave, because the procurement apparently….

Akpabio himself when he and Festus Keyamo were ministers, their first meeting at the commission, he (Akpabio) was awarded 30 contracts for distilling and water hyacinth. Mr Linus who was Director of Finance refused to sign because it did not follow due process.

He also said I should implicate the chairman of the House committee ‘because the chairman has gone to Ondo to a meeting to plan against him’. They said the contract for water stilting and hyacinth was about 3 to 5 billion, I’m not sure how much exactly how much, that the NDDC before I came has overstretched itself for N50 billion for water hyacinth and distilling. And so the National Assembly has written us, and they (committee) have it also: that we should not pay for anything like that. Akpabio never signed any document, he will refuse to sign but ask you to go and commit the fraud.

For instance, he told me to go and raise a memo and give an emergency contract for flood victims.

He wanted me to take an oath. He has denied that, but I want to say today, he told me up to three times until we had a reconciliatory meeting at the Villa, in the house of Sarki Abba, who is the SA to the president on Domestics. In that meeting was Alhaji Maikano. He said the only condition is if I take the oath.

I refused to take the oath. And I did not take the oath. And I will never take an oath from him. So he said he was going to remove me then, he started the campaign of calumny against me. I did not answer him because the fact will speak for itself.

Now to end this matter about the procurement process, I refused to go with him to deceive Mr President at the FEC meeting, because the procurement Act says if I contravene any section of the Act, it’s five years imprisonment without an option of fine.

So if I go and say they should go and pay for the procurement…… You see he says is for 2020 budget. Akpabio wanted to get approval from FEC. The 2020 budget has not even been discussed by NASS till today. The 2020 budget has not been passed.

However he lied to FEC which is the greatest embarrassment in the country; for budget that has not been passed and an approval to be given for that procurement.

I refused to go because he wanted me to send the money for the procurement to the Ministry to implement the forensic audit. I refused.

I’m challenging him to deny any of these allegations, because I have to round off for you people. But all that I have said are written in the document before the committee.

EFCC: “My Health Is Deteriorating – Magu;” Says He Has Been Insulted And Presented As A Common Criminal

0
Ibrahim Magu

By Adesina Soyooye

The embittered, embattled and suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic Financial and Crimes Commission, EFCC, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Magu, says his health is going down.

Speaking through his Counsel, Wahab Shittu, Magu cried out that his health ”is deteriorating”.

Magu also said he has been embarrassed, insulted and, paraded like a common criminal, and has become morally depressed, “for serving the nation.”

He, also, accuses the Media, of taking an undue advantage of his situation, and launching a campaign of calumny against him.

How An Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Intercepted Him

Contrary to the report which made the rounds in the media, Magu was not arrested by a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP. He was accosted by an ACP, Gabriel Elaigwu.

This was disclosed by Shittu in a letter of Appeal he sent on Magu’s behalf, to the Presidential Panel, asking that his client be granted bail.

Contents Of The Invitation Letter

Shittu: “Our Client has briefed and drawn our attention to the letter dated 6th of July, 2020, Ref No PIC/AR/VOL.I/01 wherein he was informed as follows:

“The above mentioned panel is investigating above listed offences in which you feature prominently, and the need to obtain clarification from you had become necessary.

“You are directed to, with immediate effect, accompany the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Gabriel Eliagwu and team, to report to the Chairman and members of the Committee, today, 6th July, 2020.

“Ensure compliance and receipt of my warmest regards please”

Since he honoured the invitation as ordered, nothing has been the same for Magu.

A Long Goodbye

Magu has been in the custody of the Police, from where he has been appearing before the Panel. His personal and official houses have been searched.  Security personnel attached to his residences and him, personally, have been withdrawn. And so have his official vehicles.

He has been suspended from office, and a replacement, the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, appointed in his stead. All the Police personnel posted to the EFCC have been withdrawn. A new set will be posted. And for Magu, it is a long goodbye to the high profile office.

But these are hardly Magu’s problems now.

His main problem is to be given bail so he can attend to his health, and mount a vigorous defence of himself.

According to his Counsel, since that July the 6th, Magu has not been availed of the petitions against him. He has also not been given the terms of reference of the Panel. He, also, complained that witnesses were being interviewed behind his back, insisting that they should be made to face him one on one.

Magu’s Demands; The Media, His Problem

Suprisingly, Magu is holding the Media responsible for some of his travails. He says that both the print and electronic media  are scandalising him while he is in custody

His Counsel, therefore, asked for six things:

* That Magu would appreciate being afforded the Terms of Reference of the Committee.

*That Magu be given copies of the allegations against him to give him the opportunity to study them for a robust defence.

*That Magu would appreciate the intervention of the Committee  to release him from custody to enable him defend himself adequately, and attend to his health which has deteriorated in custody.

*That Magu be given adequate time to respond to the allegations against him, by providing materials and evidence.

* That Magu be provided the opportunity to confront petitioners with his defence.

*That witnesses be examined before Magu , and his Counsel.

*That Magu be granted the right to fair hearing and liberty.

But many Nigerians say, given Magu’s antecedents, they are surprised he is asking for bail.

In a lead headline caption described by not a few people as apt, ThisDay on Saturday, screamed: “Magu, Who Denied Scores Their Freedom, Seeks Bail”

As for his deteriorating health as reason for giving him bail, many Nigerians are reminding him of the date of the now jailed PDP Chieftain, Olisa Metu, who he hauled before the Court on a wheelchair and, atimes, on a hospital stretcher.

But others insist that he should be availed bail, as “two wrongs don’t make a right”.

Ondo 2020 APC Primary: Tinubu’s Candidate Disqualified; Others Gang Up Against Governor As He Faces Workers’ Ultimatum

By Akinwale Kasali

Following on the heels of his loss over the sack of Adams  Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the APC, and the dissolution of the party’s NWC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, APC Chieftain, has suffered another setback.

His, alleged, preferred candidate for the Ondo 2020 governorship election, Segun Abraham, has been disqualified by the screening committee.

The magazine gathered that the APC Screening Committee announced Abraham’s disqualification while submitting their report to the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee on Friday in Abuja.

The Chairman of the screening committee, Alhaji Tumsa, reportedly disqualified only one out of the 12 aspirants that participated in the exercise ahead of July 20 Ondo APC Primaries.

Recall that Tinubu supported Abraham during the 2016 Ondo governorship election won by Rotimi Akeredolu.

Tumsa said the 12 aspirants were assessed based on their presentations, and education qualifications among others, noting that the disqualified contender failed to meet  with the requirements set by the party.

He said: “The committee decided that the aspirants be scored base on their presentations, educational qualifications, their commitment to the party, knowledge of the constitution, community service, manifesto of the APC, their team spirit, and working experience.

“Of the 12 aspirants for the election, the committee has deemed it fit approve eleven of the aspirants to contest for the primary. We understand, of course, that the 12th aspirant has the option of appealing the decision of the committee.

“I will like to emphasize, and to commend the aspirants who cooperated in no small measures for the success of this exercise. I will like to seize this opportunity to thank the party for finding us worthy to conduct exercise.”

The National Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Sen. John Udoedehe, while receiving the report, lauded the committee for what he called a diligent exercise.

The aspirants who participated in the screening exercise were Rotimi Akeredolu, Joseph Olusola Iji, Odimayo Okunjimi, Olayide Owolabi Adelaml mni, Issacs Duerimini Kekemeke, Olusola Oke Alex, lfeoluwa Olusola Oyedele, and Olajumoke Olubusola Anifowoshe.

Others include Awodeyi Akinsehinwa Akinola Cornelius, Olubukola Adetula, Dr Abraham Olusegun Michael and Dr Nathaniel Adojutelegan.

Meanwhile, 11 aspirants, except Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, have rejected the  Indiret mode for the Ondo 2020 APC Primaries. In what has been described as a gang-up against the Governor, the aspirants, in rejecting the Indirect primary, and rooting for the Direct primary, said the former confers a huge advantage on the Governor.  However, the Interim NWC has already endorsed the Direct Primary method, and forwarded same to INEC.

Recall that the former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, was done-in by the Indirect Primary. He was roundly defeated by  the now Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu.

In another development, Governor Akeredolu is facing a serious challenge from workers in the state. The workers,  through their unions, have just given him an ultimatum to pay all their  salaries and allowances, or they would down tools.

The ultimatum expires on Wednesday, July the 15th.

In Ondo state, it is one day, one trouble.

At Last, NAFDAC Approves Drug To Cure Covid 19

By Uche Mbah

Unconfirmed reports say that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC, has given a tacit approval to the use of a Nigerian Herbal medicine for the management of COVID-19.

The magazine’s calls to the Agency, for confirmation, were neither answered nor returned. But the founder of PAX HERBAL clinic,  Ewu,  Anselem Adodo, in an internal memo, celebrated the feat, and tacit approval. He noted that the drug has successfully gone through pre-approval hurdles.

There has been no official statement from NAFDAC.

There have been issues on whether there will be an indigenous cure for coronavirus since many Nigerians, including the former chairman of the electoral umpire, Maurice Iwu, are laying claims to the cure.

Nigeria had taken delivery of the COVID 19 cure kits from Madagascar, but to date, nothing has been heard of the drug again. NAFDAC has said they will evaluate the drug before approval. The importation of the drug had created a diplomatic rumpus with Madagascar asking to be paid huge amounts for the drugs which Nigeria allegedly objected to.

In a widely circulated internal memo of PAX HERBAL clinic, the founder and director of the clinic that is located at Ewu, Benin, Anselm Adodo, announced the approval of the drug,

“After a series of screening, spanning eight weeks, NAFDAC has today approved our PAXHERBAL COVID 19 herbal drug, PAXHERBAL CUGZIN, for public use. It is the first to be so approved and currently the only one. The drug is specifically for treatment of symptoms associated with COVID 19”, the memo read.

NAFDAC had given a tacit approval fo the use of the drug even though it was not officially approved. Since then, it has been surreptitiously used by medical personnel.  As a disclaimer, the drug bore a label under the category of drugs CBD PLUS. It bore the disclaimer: “These claims have not yet been verified by NAFDAC”.

PAXHERBAL

Paxherbal Cugzin now has the NAFDAC number A7-4358L

CUGZIN is packaged in a bottle of 80 290 mg capsules, each containing special extracts. They have already begun nationwide distribution.

The drug has passed through all the stages of clinical trial-animal testing and others- before approval. According to Adodo, the drug is both curative and preventive and also serves as an immune booster. However, it should not be used by pregnant women and children under 11 years. For private use for preventive reasons and immune booster, two capsules a day is recommended. However, for curative purposes, the direction of a physician is required.

Anselm Adodo, a Catholic Monk and a Ph.D. holder in Management and Technological Innovations, and later medical Sociology, said: “We have herbal medicines for many of the diseases that plague our people. For more than 2 years we have been producing herbal medicine for diabetes, hypertension, Ashma, Malaria, prostate problem, male and female infertility, and others. For those 25 years, we have strived to maintain the same high standards and consistency. The only thing we are poor at is making noise about what we do. Those who use drugs make the noise for us”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has on signed into law, the revised N10.8 trillion budget for the year 2020 passed by the National Assembly in June.

Present at the Presidential Villa during the signing, were the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare, his counterpart for House of Representatives, Hon. Kawu Sumaila and other principal officers from the National Assembly also witnessed the signing.

Recall that President Buhari, on December 17, 2019 signed a budget estimate of N10.50 trillion passed by the National Assembly.

But the fall in crude oil prices, occasioned by the effects of the corona virus pandemic led to the review of the budget, which was eventually presented to the president for his signature by top officials of the Assembly led by Ahmad Lawal today.

While signing the revised budget, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the President Buhari said the federal government had no option than to review the budget in the face of current realities.

He also directed the Ministry of Finance to make sure all ministries, department and agencies are moblilised with15 percent of their capital allocation by the end of the month.

APC Leadership Tussle: Tinubu Group Renews Onslaught, Goes To Court

By Fola James

When President Muhammadu Buhari, on June 25 sacked the All Progressives Congress, APC National Working Committee, NWC led by Etta Hillard, replacing it with the a National Caretaker Committee headed by the Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, some thought the leadership fiasco in the ruling party had finally been over.

During the meeting held in Aso Rock, Presidential Villa, the president also directed all the members of the party to sheathe their swords in the interest of the party, warning trouble makers will be sanctioned.

But on Wednesday, one of the Party chieftains in Lagos state, Chief Lateef Arigbaruwo dragged the party to court to challenge the sack of the Hillard led NCW by President Buhari.

Arigbaruwo’s decision demanding for the reinstatement of the sacked NWC has now dug up another battle in the restive ruling party, close watchers of the party say.

In the suit marked FHC/L/CS/789/2020,  Arigbaruwo faulted the NEC meeting of the party presided by President Buhari on June 25.

He wants the court to rule on “whether having regards to Article 25, paragraph B (i) and (ii) of the Constitution of the party, the 24 hours’ notice given by the 2nd defendant for the NEC meeting held on June 25 was valid and legal”.

The APC chieftain is also seeking “an order of the court setting aside all the decisions taken in the NEC meeting, which he declared illegal on the grounds that it was conveyed in the June 24 and held on June 25, contrary to Article 25 of the APC Constitution”.

He prayed the court to make an order restraining the Buni-led caretaker committee from functioning as managers of the party.

He has also asked the court to grant an order directing the sacked NWC to return back to office.

Joined in the suit are Victor Giadom, APC NEC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.

Meanwhile, keen watchers of the party say this may just be a renewed crisis in the ruling APC, despite promises made by feuding parties to allow peace to reign.

Recall that both Adams Oshiomhole and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the arrowheads of the Etta-led NWC had after the president’s intervention pledge to abide by the decision reached on June 25 by the party’s NEC.

Speaking after the dissolution Oshiomhole said he had no option than to back the president’s decision, adding that he has done his best for the parfty.

He said “The APC under my leadership has done its best and the results are there. Of course we have now been dissolved and I have accepted the that dissolution in good fate.

I am not going into the issue of legality or illegality, the bottom line is the President who invited me to lead the party and gave me all the support and even mobilised all the support across the country for my emergence as chairman also presided over the meeting where the NWC has now been dissolved.

And because I have always assured the President of my loyalty, I know it is easy for people to speak of loyalty when the going is good, but loyalty is brought to the test when the going is getting really tough, so as a demonstration of that loyalty to Mr. President, the loyalty to our party, and loyalty to the Nigerian nation, I have decided to accept the decision in good faith.”

The Buni-led Caretaker Committee also visited Tinubu’s Bourdillon Lagos residence on a reconciliation mission, where the APC National Leader promised to work with the committee to move the party forward.

“There is no crisis in the party, hence, no fight to reconcile,” Tinubu said on July 3 while speaking to journalists after the visit.

But as it seems, the aggrieved members of the party led by the former Lagos governor are still trying to take their own pound of flesh on the president and the party for sacking Etta from office, keen watchers of the party told the magazine.

“There’s no way an APC chieftain in Lagos can drag the party to court without the knowledge and express approval of Jagaban. The former Lagos governor is the Alpha and Omega of the APC in the state, he has the knife and yam, decides who gets what. Nothing can be done by any member of APC in Lagos without his knowledge,” Frank Adebowale, a political analyst said.

Tinubu has been having it rough with a powerful bloc in the APC over the 2023 presidential race analysts say, most recently the sack, on Tuesday of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, believed to be part of the plots to frustrate his bid for the presidency.

The renewed legal battle, close watchers of the Bourdillon King, as the APC National Leader is well known, told the magazine is his way of fighting back entrenched interests in the party who are neck deep in frustrating his presidential ambition.
