EndSARS: APC Chieftain Warns Buhari To Prepare For Revolution |The Source

By Tosin Olatokunbo

The President Muhammadu Buhari has pushed Nigerians to the wall and revolution cannot be totally ruled out in the unforeseen future, a chieftain of the        All Progressives Congress, APC Buba Galadinma has warned.

The APC big hat is a former ally of the president but has since turned his back on him over Buhari’s style of leadership.

Galadinma made the comment on the crest of calm that has returned to the country after the EndSARS protest that many said took the president and his advisers by surprise, and has demystified Buhari as a popular leader among Nigerians.

Some prominent leaders from the north including governors have dismissed the EndSARS protest as an attack on the region and President Buhari’s government.

But the APC chieftain said the politics of exclusion by the administration is “leading this country into a revolution that they don’t want to accept. They are the people causing the revolution by excluding, disenfranchising people not on the basis of competence but on the basis of ‘they don’t belong’. That is why we need a leader that is a large-hearted Nigerian who will carry us all along, not because he is an Idoma man or a Bade man.

“Do they know? One of my friend’s sons wanted to join the Police Force. He was asked by these faceless people to pay an amount of money for him to be recruited. My friend told his son, ‘even if I had the money, I won’t pay, besides, I don’t even have the money. If you are recruited because I paid the money, you are also going in there to help yourself to make the money back.”

He said corruption has become more pronounced in the administration, especially among civil servants, who he said, have compromised the public trust and now acting as they like.

He dismissed suggestions among some northern elements that those not happy with the Buhari’s administration are trying to use undemocratic means to bring it down.

According to him “it is shameful of them that when their kith and kin are being killed in Borno, Zamfara, Kano, Yobe, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi and Niger, they had no guts to come out or allow their people to protest, because the primary responsibility of every government is to protect the lives and property of citizens.

“In this respect, the government at all levels including the states in the north have failed. Youths who are victims (of police brutality) came out to protest. Is that wrong? And some people now come out to say they want to overthrow the government.”

He said the protesting youths have sent a strong message to the government that things cannot remain the same again.

Uncertainty In Ondo Over Fate Of Kidnapped Victims |The Source

Ondo state Police Command and families of some victims kidnapped last week are at loggerhead over the condition of the victims.

The Police  Command  came with  cheering news on Saturday that the victims had regained freedom through efforts by security agents.

Some family members of the victims reacted Sunday morning that their relations are still being held by their captors.

Among those that are still in the kidnappers den is the Iyaloja of Isua, in Akoko South- east local government, Mrs Hellen Edward with others that were kidnapped Thursday along Ogbese-Uso axis of Akure Owo highway.

The State Police command through its spokesman, Tee-Leo Ikoro, declared that it rescued some of the abducted travellers, but the family of the victims described the reported release as a farce.

One of the children of the  kidnapped Iyaloja, Mrs Alaba Edward, said family members are still relating with their mother in the kidnappers den  who appealed to them to look for money to pay the ransom demanded by the abductors to secure her release.

Mrs Alaba said that the 11million naira earlier demanded by the abductors has been reduced to five million naira, which the family is still struggling to raise.

The market leader is the only female among the victims, one escaped, five are still in captive.

There are fears among travelers especially along highways in Akoko and Owo/ Benin axis that despite the launching of the much publicised South West security network, code named Amotekun, traveling along these routes remain a nightmare.

A recent trip from Akure to Benin showed that the only security post along the route, which is always lonely, is a military post very near Ifon town, leaving travelers to their fate.

Kamala Harris

(Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ Full remarks On Being Elected)

Good evening.

Congressman John Lewis, before his passing, wrote: “Democracy is not a state. It is an act.”

And what he meant was that America’s democracy is not guaranteed.

It is only as strong as our willingness to fight for it, to guard it and never take it for granted.

And protecting our democracy takes struggle.

It takes sacrifice. There is joy in it and there is progress.

Because We The People have the power to build a better future.

And when our very democracy was on the ballot in this election, with the very soul of America at stake, and the world watching, you ushered in a new day for America.

To our campaign staff and volunteers, this extraordinary team — thank you for bringing more people than ever before into the democratic process and for making this victory possible.

To the poll workers and election officials across our country who have worked tirelessly to make sure every vote is counted — our nation owes you a debt of gratitude as you have protected the integrity of our democracy.

And to the American people who make up our beautiful country — thank you for turning out in record numbers to make your voices heard.

You Voted For Science

I know times have been challenging, especially the last several months.

The grief, sorrow, and pain. The worries and the struggles.

But we’ve also witnessed your courage, your resilience, and the generosity of your spirit.

For 4 years, you marched and organized for equality and justice, for our lives, and for our planet.

And then, you voted. You delivered a clear message.

You chose hope, unity, decency, science, and, yes, truth.

You chose Joe Biden as the next President of the United States of America.

Joe is a healer. A uniter. A tested and steady hand.

A person whose own experience of loss gives him a sense of purpose that will help us, as a nation, reclaim our own sense of purpose.

And a man with a big heart who loves with abandon.

It’s his love for Jill, who will be an incredible First Lady.

It’s his love for Hunter, Ashley, his grandchildren, and the entire Biden family.

And while I first knew Joe as Vice President, I really got to know him as the father who loved Beau, my dear friend, who we remember here today.

My Mother Made This Happen

To my husband Doug, our children Cole and Ella, my sister Maya, and our whole family — I love you all more than I can express.

We are so grateful to Joe and Jill for welcoming our family into theirs on this incredible journey.

And to the woman most responsible for my presence here today — my mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, who is always in our hearts.

When she came here from India at the age of 19, maybe she didn’t quite imagine this moment.

But she believed so deeply in an America where a moment like this is possible.

So, I’m thinking about her and about the generations of women — Black Women.

Asian, White, Latina, and Native American women throughout our nation’s history who have paved the way for this moment tonight.

Women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality, liberty, and justice for all, including the Black women, who are too often overlooked, but so often Prove that they are the backbone of our democracy.

All the Women who worked to secure and protect the right to vote for over a century: 100 years ago with the 19th Amendment, 55 years ago with the Voting Rights Act, and now, in 2020, with a new generation of women in our country who cast their ballots and continued the fight for their fundamental right to vote and be heard.

I Will Not Be The Last

Tonight, I reflect on their struggle, their determination and the strength of their vision — to see what can be unburdened by what has been — I stand on their shoulders.

And what a testament it is to Joe’s character that he had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers that exists in our country and select a woman as his Vice President.

But while I may be the first woman in this office, I won’t be the last.

Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.

And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message:

Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before.

And we will applaud you every step of the way.

To the American people:

No matter who you voted for, I will strive to be the Vice President that Joe was to President Obama — loyal, honest, and prepared, waking up every day thinking of you and your families. Because now is when the real work begins.

The Hard work. The Necessary work. The Good work.

The essential work to save lives and beat this pandemic.

To rebuild our economy so it works for working people.

To root out systemic racism in our justice system and society.

To combat the climate crisis.

To unite our country and heal the soul of our nation.

The road ahead will not be easy.

Joe And I Are Ready

But America is ready. And so are Joe and I.

We have elected a president who represents the best in us.

A leader the world will respect and our children can look up to.

A Commander in Chief who will respect our troops and keep our country safe.

And a President for all Americans.

It is now my great honor to introduce the President-elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden.

Black Americans Always Have My Back, I Will Always Have Their Backs |The Source

(President- Elect, Joe Biden’s Full Remarks To The Americans)

My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken.

They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory.

A victory for “We the People.”

We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation — 74 million.

I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.

I pledge to be a President who seeks not to divide, but to unify.

Who doesn’t see Red and Blue states, but a United States.

And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of the whole people.

For that is what America is about: The people.

And that is what our Administration will be about.

I sought this office to restore the soul of America.

To rebuild the backbone of the nation — the middle class.

To make America respected around the world again and to unite us here at home.

It is the honor of my lifetime that so many millions of Americans have voted for this vision.

And now the work of making this vision real is the task of our time.

I Am Jill’s Husband

As I said many times before, I’m Jill’s husband.

I would not be here without the love and tireless support of Jill, Hunter, Ashley, all of our grandchildren and their spouses, and all our family.

They are my heart.

Jill’s a mom — a military mom — and an educator.

She has dedicated her life to education, but teaching isn’t just what she does — it’s who she is. For America’s educators, this is a great day: You’re going to have one of your own in the White House, and Jill is going to make a great First Lady.

And I will be honored to be serving with a fantastic vice president — Kamala Harris — who will make history as the first woman, first Black woman, first woman of South Asian descent, and first daughter of immigrants ever elected to national office in this country.

It’s long overdue, and we’re reminded tonight of all those who fought so hard for so many years to make this happen. But once again, America has bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice.

Kamala, Doug — like it or not — you’re family. You’ve become honorary Bidens and there’s no way out.

To all those who volunteered, worked the polls in the middle of this pandemic, local election officials — you deserve a special thanks from this nation.

To my campaign team, and all the volunteers, to all those who gave so much of themselves to make this moment possible, I owe you everything.

And to all those who supported us: I am proud of the campaign we built and ran. I am proud of the coalition we put together, the broadest and most diverse in history.

Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

Progressives, moderates and conservatives.

Young and old.

Urban, suburban and rural.

Gay, straight, transgender.

White. Latino. Asian. Native American.

And especially for those moments when this campaign was at its lowest — the African American community stood up again for me. They always have my back, and I’ll have yours.

I said from the outset I wanted a campaign that represented America, and I think we did that. Now that’s what I want the administration to look like.

And to those who voted for President Trump, I understand your disappointment tonight.

I’ve lost a couple of elections myself.

But now, let’s give each other a chance.

It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric.

To lower the temperature.

To see each other again.

To listen to each other again.

What The Bible Says

To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy.

We are not enemies. We are Americans.

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a season — a time to build, a time to reap, a time to sow. And a time to heal.

This is the time to heal in America.

Now that the campaign is over — what is the people’s will? What is our mandate?

I believe it is this: Americans have called on us to marshal the forces of decency and the forces of fairness. To marshal the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time.

The battle to control the virus.

The battle to build prosperity.

The battle to secure your family’s health care.

The battle to achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism in this country.

The battle to save the climate.

The battle to restore decency, defend democracy, and give everybody in this country a fair shot.

Our work begins with getting COVID under control.

We cannot repair the economy, restore our vitality, or relish life’s most precious moments — hugging a grandchild, birthdays, weddings, graduations, all the moments that matter most to us — until we get this virus under control.

On Monday, I will name a group of leading scientists and experts as Transition Advisors to help take the Biden-Harris COVID plan and convert it into an action blueprint that starts on January 20th, 2021.

That plan will be built on a bedrock of science. It will be constructed out of compassion, empathy, and concern.

I will spare no effort — or commitment — to turn this pandemic around.

I ran as a proud Democrat. I will now be an American president. I will work as hard for those who didn’t vote for me — as those who did.

Let this grim era of demonization in America begin to end — here and now.

The refusal of Democrats and Republicans to cooperate with one another is not due to some mysterious force beyond our control.

It’s a decision. It’s a choice we make.

And if we can decide not to cooperate, then we can decide to cooperate. And I believe that this is part of the mandate from the American people. They want us to cooperate.

That’s the choice I’ll make. And I call on the Congress — Democrats and Republicans alike — to make that choice with me.

The American Story

The American story is about the slow, yet steady widening of opportunity.

Make no mistake: Too many dreams have been deferred for too long.

We must make the promise of the country real for everybody — no matter their race, their ethnicity, their faith, their identity, or their disability.

America has always been shaped by inflection points — by moments in time where we’ve made hard decisions about who we are and what we want to be.

Lincoln in 1860 — coming to save the Union.

FDR in 1932 — promising a beleaguered country a New Deal.

JFK in 1960 — pledging a New Frontier.

And twelve years ago — when Barack Obama made history — and told us, “Yes, we can.”

We stand again at an inflection point.

We have the opportunity to defeat despair and to build a nation of prosperity and purpose.

We can do it. I know we can.

I’ve long talked about the battle for the soul of America.

We must restore the soul of America.

Our nation is shaped by the constant battle between our better angels and our darkest impulses.

It is time for our better angels to prevail.

Tonight, the whole world is watching America. I believe at our best America is a beacon for the globe.

And we lead not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.

I’ve always believed we can define America in one word: Possibilities.

That in America everyone should be given the opportunity to go as far as their dreams and God-given ability will take them.

You see, I believe in the possibility of this country.

We’re always looking ahead.

Ahead to an America that’s freer and more just.

Ahead to an America that creates jobs with dignity and respect.

Ahead to an America that cures disease — like cancer and Alzheimers.

Ahead to an America that never leaves anyone behind.

Ahead to an America that never gives up, never gives in.

This is a great nation

And we are a good people.

This is the United States of America.

And there has never been anything we haven’t been able to do when we’ve done it together.

In the last days of the campaign, I’ve been thinking about a hymn that means a lot to me and to my family, particularly my deceased son Beau. It captures the faith that sustains me and which I believe sustains America.

And I hope it can provide some comfort and solace to the more than 230,000 families who have lost a loved one to this terrible virus this year. My heart goes out to each and every one of you. Hopefully this hymn gives you solace as well.

“And He will raise you up on eagle’s wings,

Bear you on the breath of dawn,

Make you to shine like the sun,

And hold you in the palm of His Hand.”

And now, together — on eagle’s wings — we embark on the work that God and history have called upon us to do.

With full hearts and steady hands, with faith in America and in each other, with a love of country — and a thirst for justice — let us be the nation that we know we can be.

A nation united.

A nation strengthened.

A nation healed.

The United States of America.

God bless you.

And may God protect our troops.

Obasanjo to Biden: Your Victory Represents The Victory Of Good Over Evil; Says Kamala Harris Has Nigerian DNA | The Source

By Gideon Njoku

Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, says the defeat of President Donald Trump by Joe Biden is the victory of good over evil. He said by the victory, Biden, it is hoped would restore the rule of law and respect for international agreements and treaties.

Obadanjo made these remarks in a congratulatory letter  he sent to the President-elect of the United States of America, USA, Joe Biden, and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.

Biden, the Democratic Party candidate defeated incumbent President Donald Trump in a tension-soaked election, which held the world captive, and for days, wracked nerves as the  final results were awaited.

The election took place on November 3, but the winner did not emerge until Saturday,  November 7. As at the time the winner was announced by most networks in the US, including the CNN and ABC, Biden had garnered the magic 270 Electoral votes to Trumps 213. Results from three other states – Arizona, Nevada and Michigan were still being awaited. Biden leads in all the three states.

In Obasanjo’s congratulatory letter to Biden and Vice President-elect, Kamala Harrison, Obasanjo said:

“I join millions in the United States of America and in the rest of the world who felicitate with you, President- Elect Joe Biden for your victory. It is a victory of good over evil, and it is not victory for you and the people of America alone, but victory for most people of the world that had been steadily and painstakingly built since tbe end of the second world war, was being pulled down. Not that the world was perfect and equitable, but it was reasonably predictable with some measure of rule of law and respect for international agreements and treaties. President-elect Joe Biden must restore confidence in the role of America as the largest economy in the world which has a very significant responsibility for the peace, security, stability and progress of the world.

“I felicitate with Vice President-Elect, Kamala Harris as the first female Vice President of the U.S., Barrack Obama, has Kenyan DNA in him and I am reasonably  sure that the first African-American female Vice President-Elect of the US will have some Nigerian DNA in her as most of those tajen to the Caribbean from Africa went from Nigeria of today”

The letter was dated November 7. By the letter, the former President joined other world leaders, including Britain’s Boris Johnson as the early birds who congratulated Biden on the momentous victory.

Joe Biden

By Adesina Soyooye

After a nerve-wracking, tension soaked election, followed by days of more tension while waiting for the results, the United States of America, USA, has a new President.

Joe Biden, former Vice President has just been called by the CNN as the elected President of the world’s most powerful country. He will, by January 20, 2021, occupy the most powerful office.

Biden garnered 20 electoral votes in Pennsylvania to exceed  the magic 270 Electoral votes to defeat sour loser, President Donald Trump of the Republican party.

He tried, in vain, two times, and is third time lucky. At 77,  he is the oldest man to be sworn in as USA President, just as he was the  youngest to be elected Senator.

With this victory, Kamala Harris has also made  history as the first woman to be elected the Vice President of the USA. He is, also, the first woman of colour, born of immigrant parents to be so elected.

…Details, later.

Bishop Says Buhari Heeds No Call; Nigerians Suffering And Smiling |The Source

By Charles Igbo

President Muhammadu Buhari has been dismissed as a man who heeds to no call from the people who elected him into office.

The Bishop of Egbu Diocese, Anglican Communion, His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor, made the assertion on Friday, while delivering the Presidential Address/Charge, at the First Session of the Ninth Synod, holding at the Anglican  Church of Pentecost, New Owerri, Imo State.

Okorafor, also, asked the President to quit as the Minister of Petroleum, describing his continued retention of the office as unfair, wondering if Nigeria is a civilian democracy or a military dictatorship.

Withholding The Petroleum Ministry

Said the Bishop: ” We, also, call on the President to urgently appoint a Minister for Petroleum. If he is the Minister for Petroleum, he should boldly and openly inform Nigerians. He has no reason to withhold the office of Petroleum Minister, as the past years of placing the office on hold have not yielded any fruitful dividend.

Things rather continue to fall apart in the oil sector; continued hike in prices of Petroleum products with reckless abandon.”

Military Dictatorship

He continued: ” Sometimes, one is tempted to ask if ours is indeed a civilian democracy or still a military dictatorship. How does one view the irregular availability of Kerosene, which is a household need of every home in the country, whether rich or poor. Kerosene has become the most expensive product in a country that ranks fifth largest producer and exporter of petroleum in the globe. Something must be wrong somewhere.

“We are applying the same solution to our problem all the year round, and yet expecting a change. Not possible. The need for an immediate review of our system of operation cannot be over-stressed.

Mr President, Let Your Conscience Play It’s  Role

He chided the President for the continued stay in office of Service Chiefs for six years and counting.

Okorafor: “A lot of criticisms has emanated as to his continued  refusal to overhaul the security architecture of the country. Service Chiefs are now at their wits end, and need to be replaced. Mr President, be reminded that you were elected by the people in a democracy, and you swore to uphold the principles of democracy guided by the constitution of Nigeria.  Conscience should play a very important role in our system. Let your conscience  play its role in your leadership style in Nigeria.”

The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor
The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor

Suffering And Smiling

Bemoaning the state of insecurity in the country, His Lordship said: ” Nigeria has been ranked the leading terrorist country in Africa. From banditory to armed robbery, from kidnapping to the menace of Boko Haram the situation has remained unabated, leading to the loss of lives ones by families, and plunged such families into hardship as some of the deceased persons are their families’ bread winners. Nigerians are seen as the most suffering and most patient people in the whole world. Suffering and smiling. Very unfortunate.

Mr President Heeds To No Calls

Bishop Okorafor chided both the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of a Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, for praising the President for heeding to the calls to ban the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, SARS. He disagreed with them, insisting:

“Buhari is about completing the second year of his second tenure.

“He has flatly refused to heed to the calls of several eminent Nigerians across the entire country to consider the need for the restructuring of the Nigerian system. Millions of Naira were spent on the 2014 Constitutional Conference that recommended the need for restruction. Why he has refused to heed to this call, still remains a puzzle.

“Little wonder many Nigerians, both old and young, enlightened and unenlightened, take the announcement by the Inspector General of Police banning SARS with a pinch of salt because Mr President, since his assumption of office, has never heeded to any call.

” We call on him again, alongside many other calls to consider the need for a restructuring of the country’s system”

The Synod ends on Sunday.

Gov. Zulum: Another Boko Haram May Emerge From #EndSARS Protest |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has warned the demonstrators of the #EndSARS protests in the country to sheath their sword and deliberate with the Federal Government for their agitations to be addressed, saying that the Boko Haram insurgency started with protests by the young people.

Zulum said this during a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

While speaking with President Buhari, the Governor said, “On the issue of #EndSARS, I am calling all Nigerians, especially, the youths to be very careful.

“The whole Boko Haram saga started as a result of a protest by some youths of Maiduguri against the use of helmets by motorcycle riders. You have seen the situation now,” he said.

The Governor blamed poverty as one of the root causes of the insurgency that has gripped the North-eastern part of the country for over  11 years.

He called on Government at all levels to avail the young people of employment opportunities, adding that military exercise is not sufficient enough in tackling terrorism in the region.

“One of the greatest root cause of insurgency is poverty. Government at all levels need to provide job opportunities to the youths, enabling environment for the poor to have access to their farmlands.

“This is the only solution. Military solution alone will not solve the problem,” Governor Zulum said;

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, is set to establish a new University.

The Chuch already has two very well known Universities,  Paul University, Awka, Anambra State, and the Bishop Ajayi Crowther, University, in Ogun State.

The new University, named Anglican University of Technology, will be sited at Kwaita, Abuja.

According to the Archbishop, Metropolitan, and Primate of All Nigeria, His Grace, The Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, “The University will be our National Church University.”

Already, the Primate had set-up a 17- man Church of Nigeria Task Force for the establishment of the University

Worried about the state of education in the country, and the moral upbringing of youths, many religious denominations have been establishing private universities, especially to re-orintate the youths, morally.

By establishing a University of Technology, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, is being sensitive to the new world which is, mostly, technology-driven.

Anglican Bishop Derobes Knights |The Source

The Anglican Bishop of Egbu Diocese, Owerri, Imo State,  The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Okorafor, has derobed five Knights of the Council of Saint Christopher.

He took the action at the recent Chapter Meeting of the Council held at the All Saints Cathedral, ASCATH, Egbu.

The Chapter Meeting is the most important date in the annual calendar of Knights where they renew their oaths of allegiance.

According to Bishop Okorafor,  “This is the first phase,” as more Knights are likely to be derobed in the very near future.

His Lordship attributed his action to the heavy indebtedness of the Knights to the Council, which many think signifies disinterest in the activities of the Council, thus affecting its running.

Bishop Okorafor also gave  other heavy debtors a period  of six months, to do the necessary or face the same fate which befell the five derobed Knights.
