Why We Suspended Trump Indefinitely – Mark Zuckerberg |The Source

0

The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden.

His decision to use his platform to condone rather than condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building has rightly disturbed people in the US and around the world. We removed these statements yesterday because we judged that their effect — and likely their intent — would be to provoke further violence.

Following the certification of the election results by Congress, the priority for the whole country must now be to ensure that the remaining 13 days and the days after inauguration pass peacefully and in accordance with established democratic norms.

Over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platform consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they violate our policies. We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech. But the current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.

We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.

Nigeria: Kukah Alleges Mass Looting, Deceit |The Source

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Lordship, Mathew Kukah, has alleged a mass looting of the national treasury.

According to Kukah, the looting is being perpetrated by a privileged few.

The Bishop spoke in Kaduna  at a wake keep service in honour of the late Archbishop of the Kaduna Archdiocese, His Grace, Peter Jatau.

Said Bishop Kukah: “We sit at home stealing the Nation’s resources, but we seek repentance in Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem in the guise of lesser or higher pilgrimages.

“We make money by abandoning projects duly paid for by Government which have adopted contractocracy as a Government mechanism.

“We are allowing others to use our money to develop their infrastructure. Our elites all assembled in Dubai for Christmas and also to welcome the New Year.

“As virtue recedes into sunset in our country, there is an urgent need for us to pause and take stock of what is required to save our country.”

Taking a direct swipe at Government, the Bishop said: “The duty and responsibility of Government is the security and welfare of its people. The Priest is a watchman, one whose duty is to watch over the city, and raise his voice whenever he cites danger.

“Our duty, as Nigerians, is to reject the notion of corrupt Governments that somehow, the Lord has not provided for  every society.

“When they call for us to tighten our belts because there is recession, that oil prices have fallen, that there are problems with balance of payments, and so on, the Priest at the duty post must say what he can see, namely, that when those who preside over the affairs issue a bad cheque, it must be resisted, that when they pretend that the economy faces bankruptcy, or that there are insufficient funds, we must reject those and insist on the equitable use of the resources for the common good for all.

“Our Nation has become one huge waste land, huge debris of the deceit, lies, treachery, double dealing, and duplicity.”

Kukah:Why I rejected Obasanjo’s Big Job Offer |The Source

By Adesina Soyooye

For those who think the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, His Lordship, Mathew Kukah, is desirous for a Government/Political appointment, he has a story to tell.

Kukah, cerebral, and unarguably, the conscience of the Nation, has come under attack from both the Federal Government and the Muslim Community, over  his Christmas message of December 25, 2020.

In the message which received critical acclaim, Bishop Kukah had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism, and  added that if another person, not a Muslim from the North, had done a fraction of what Buhari has done, he would have been overthrown in a coup.

A couple of Government officials had descended on Kukah, calling him a politician in a Casock, and giving the impression that he was angling for a government job.

Some Muslim associations also hold the same opinion, insisting that Kukah’s message was a direct attack  on the Islamic religion.

Kukah had since dismissed such positions as mischief.

But saying the Homily at the wake keep service in honour of Archbishop  Peter Jatau, the late Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, Kukah revealed that he turned down a big political appointment offered to him by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during Obasanjo’s Presidency. Archbishop Jatau, he said, was aware of it, and encouraged Kukah to take-up the job so as to influence policies from inside. But the Bishop turned  it down.

Kukah: “After I finished serving in Oputa Panel, President Obasajo offered me an appointment that was quite powerful. I told the President that first, as a Priest, I had no need to serve in Government directly  under any President.

“When I tabled this before my Archbishop, he told me that on the contrary, I should go ahead and take the job. He argued that it could make me influence policy directly.

“He asked me to think it over, but I told him my mind was already made up.

“I called to tell the President that I was not available for the job. When I gave my Archbishop my reasons, he accepted, and the matter died there.”

Kukah did not, however, reveal what job/position it was that Obasanjo offered him.

Gov Akeredolu Insists His CoP Visit To Ibadan Was A Private One |The Source

Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has insisted that his Chief of Protocol, Tosin Ogunbodede, died in an accident during his visit to one of his uncles in Ibadan, Oyo state.

This was coming as the offices of the Governor  and his enstranged Deputy  engaged in brickbats over the death of the aide.

A statement by Allen Sowore, a Media Aide to Mr Agboola Ajayi, the outgoing Deputy  to Governor Akeredolu,  had alleged that the accident that killed the CoP happened while on official duty to Ibadan.

In a counter statement on Thursday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Segun Ajiboye, berated the Deputy  Governor  for crying more than the bereaved.

According to Ajiboye, Allen Sowore,  the Deputy  Governor’s aide, has  found himself on the ego trip of a self deluding master.

“It is no longer strange to see Allen Sowore jump  onto the opinion box to raise spurious issues especially, as long as Governor Akeredolu is involved.

“For emphasis, the statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation was explicit and clear enough. Only those in the ilk of Allen and his leaders would  warp the statement to suit their purposes and motive that are unhidden.

“Clearly, it does appear the statement halted the trajectory of their narrative as soon as the accident that led to the death of the CoP was reported.

“Does anyone, if at all their narrative made sense, need to travel from Akure to Ibadan just to brief his Principal on the activities for the New Year?

“The fact of their failed mission to corner governance through diabolic means has, indeed, diminished if not eroded the most simple possibility of such ‘briefings’ with the help of technology.

“If higher officers such as the Secretary to Government, Chief of Staff, Head of Service and even Cabinet members communicate with the Governor through telephone conversations and mails, commonsense was most unkind not to have interceded on behalf of Allen and his masters who are still in pain over their ignoble past and unholy paths.”

JNI Slams Kukah Over Message, Says It Is Irresponsible, Abusive Of Islam |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

For weeks, the Christmas Message of Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Fr. Matthew Hassan Kukah generated reactions for and against.

The latest  reaction has come from the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has lashes Bishop Kukah’s Christmas message as irresponsible as it was abusive of Islam.

In a Press  Statement titled, ‘Reverend Kukah’s Christmas Homily,’ signed by  its Secretary-General , Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, on Wednesday in Kaduna, three weeks after the Bishop’s message, the JNI condemned  him over what it called “a political hogwash to deceive the innocent.”

The statement reads in  part: “Though the message is disguised as a political hogwash to deceive the innocent, there is no doubt that it was a poisoned arrow fired at the heart of Islam and Muslims in Nigeria, hence the need for this intervention.

“The Bishop’s statement was a prepared address considering the occasion and the audience; one cannot but agree that it was a calculated attempt to insult Islam which is typical of him.

“His veiled insinuation that Muslims have a pool of violence to draw from is disgusting, disheartening, as well as condemnable.

“Responsibly, Christmas homilies should come with messages of hope, unity, mercy, forgiveness of the Supreme Being and resilience through prayers, especially in this trying time.

“The Bishop’s message was however a clear deviation from well-established norm across the globe.”
