Atiku Denies Dashing Officer Who Clashed With Wike SUV

Lt AM-Yerima

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports that he dashed a brand-new Toyota SUV to Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over a disputed land on Tuesday.

The duo faced off after the FCT Minister alongside some officials and security details tried to force themselves into the piece of land allegedly owned by a former Chief of Naval Staff, CNS Aawal Gambo (rtd.)

Nigerians are divided on who is wrong among the two, especially following reports that the Defence Headquarters and other federal government officials had thrown their weight behind the officer.

Amid the solidarity the officer is receiving from not a few Nigerians, Abubakar was reported to have gifted the officer an SUV as a sign of support for him.

Reacting, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, refuted the report in a statement he  shared on X on Thursday, dismissing it as false, saying it was fabricated and should not be taken serious by Nigerians. .

“His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999–2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima — or any other individual — a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media.

“The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public,” Ibe said.

“I Will Contact EFCC On Arrival” – Fmr. Minister Sylva

Timipre-Sylva

By Adesina Soyooye

Former Minister for State, Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Sylva, has said he would make contacts with the Economic  and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on arrival in Nigeria.

Sylva was, a few days ago, declared wanted by the EFCC over an alleged diversion of $15m public funds meant for the construction of an  Oil Refinery.

Before then, his name had been linked to an alleged but vehemently, for now, denied by the Defence Headquarters, of a coup plot to sack the Government of President Bola Tinubu.

While Sylva has strongly denied any link to a Coup plot to topple the Tinubu Government which, he said, is politically motivated, he said he is angry over his being declared wanted by the EFCC.

Julius Bokoru, his Spokesperson, attributed this, also, to politics, and insists that his principal will make contacts with the EFCC on arrival. For now, he said, Sylva is in the United Kingdom on medicals.

Bokoru explained that the refinery project was above board and has “traceable documentation”.

His words: “The refinery project in question is a legitimate, transparent, and verifiable undertaking.”

He wondered why the EFCC has not been in touch with  Sylva.

“Declaring him wanted on social media was intended to “inflame public sentiment”, he noted.

But the EFCC explained that the “wanted notice” stemmed from a warrant issued by a High Court in Lagos.

Sylva, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, 2007-2012, was the Minister of State under the late President Muhammadu Buhari Government.

Wike Vs Naval Officer: Lt. Yerima Will Not Be Punished, He Committed No Offence- Defence Minister

0

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has criticised his colleague, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Nyesom Wike for bringing himself so low to argue with a naval officer, Lieutenant A. Yerima over a disputed land in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Matawallle said the action of Wike constitutes total disrespect to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, and the military. The issue should have been better handled in a more civil way, the minister said, saying Wike stooped too low by altercating with the naval officer, who was on a lawful duty.

The magazine had earlier reported a viral video where the minister and the naval officer clashed after the minister, accompanied by some FCT officials, DSS, Police and Civil Defence tried to force their way into the disputed piece of land, alleged owned by a Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

Not a few Nigerians including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar stood by the officer who they said comported himself with dignity and firmness required of a soldier.

The Defence Headquarter also released an encrypted message believed to be in support of Yerima.

Reacting, Matawalle who spoke In an interview with DCL Hausa, released on its YouTube channel said Wike decided to confront the officer despite the fact that the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS and Chief of Naval Staff, CNS had already assured him that the matter will be investigated. The minster’s action, he said constitutes disrespect for the military and President Tinubu.

Matawalle also commended the officer, who he said conducted himself well despite Wike’s provocation, saying he would not be punished for carrying out his duty.

Matawalle: “What happened between Minister Wike and the officer is unfortunate. When he got there, the officer explained that he was simply obeying orders given to him. Wike should not have exchanged words with the officer; he ought to have addressed his concerns through the officer’s superiors.

“He (Wike) is our colleague, and Wike could have reached out to us to resolve whatever issue. The officer’s action was lawful because he was trained to be disciplined, loyal, and obedient to orders. Therefore, the young officer only carried out his duty worthy of commendation

“He did not commit any offence under military regulations; he merely obeyed a lawful order and followed due process. If you observe carefully, he spoke respectfully and conducted himself properly.

“There is, therefore, no offence under military law for which he should be charged. Wike should not have engaged him in an altercation, especially out of respect for the uniform he was wearing. Anyone who disrespects a soldier indirectly disrespects the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. There is, therefore, no basis for any punishment against the officer.

“This is not about supporting the military to act disrespectfully toward civilians. The Minister should understand that every officer has superiors. I gathered that he called the Chief of Defence Staff, who advised him to wait for an investigation,” he explained.

“However, he did not wait and instead went straight to the site. As a leader, he ought to have exercised patience and waited for the outcome of the investigation

“Wike also contacted the Chief of Naval Staff, who assured him that an investigation would be conducted. Yet again, he did not wait. It was supposed to be a one-day inquiry, but he chose to go there and confront them.

“Now that the Chief of Naval Staff has visited the area—since it involves a land dispute—the matter will be investigated to know who owns the lawful documents,” he stated.

Meanwhile, a former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo has called for the arrest and court martial of Lt Yerima, saying his behavior was tantamount to disrespect for constituted authority in a democracy, which should not be allowed.  The military, he said, are no longer in power, saying Yerima and the armed forces must accept this reality.

Ondo Govt Says Revised, Not Supplementary Budget Before Legislature

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa

By Ayodele Oni

Ondo State Government has revealed that it has not presented any Bill for Supplementary Budget before the State House of Assembly.

Government pointed out that its request before the Legislature is “a revised and restructured version of the ₦698.6 billion 2025 Budget of Recovery—which had earlier been duly passed by the Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.”

Allen Sowore, Special Adviser on Communication & Strategy, to the Governor, dismissed the report that his administration presented supplementary budget to the State Assembly for passage, describing same as unfounded.

“For clarity, what is before the Ondo State House of Assembly is not a supplementary budget. It is a revised and restructured version of the ₦698.6 billion 2025 Budget of Recovery—which had earlier been duly passed by the Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.

“The review became necessary because some anticipated funds from development partners have yet to materialize, and the fiscal year is fast coming to an end.

“In line with prudent financial management, the government decided to recalibrate the budget to reflect a more realistic revenue profile and ensure a fairer allocation of state resources across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“In essence, this exercise represents a downward adjustment, not an addition. It is a budget revision, not a supplementary appropriation. The goal is to achieve fiscal discipline, transparency, and efficiency in the management of public funds.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the presentation of such a request to the State Legislature is a constitutional duty of the Governor, just as it is the constitutional mandate of the House of Assembly to deliberate upon, consider, and approve such requests or otherwise.

“The good people of Ondo State can rest assured that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is a stickler for due process and the rule of law. He will never engage in any act that undermines constitutional provisions or fiscal integrity.”

Saraki Says Going Ahead With PDP Convention Amounts To Waste Of Time

Bukola Saraki

By Ayodele Oni

Apparently taking into consideration Court’s order stopping the scheduled national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), former Senate President and two-term Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, has advised that going ahead will amount to waste of efforts.

The planned national convention of the PDP is scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

Already two orders from the Federal High Court, one initiated by loyalists of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesome Wike and the other by the former Governor of Jigawa state, Silence Lamido had stopped the conduct of the convention.

Other faction within the party, including the suspended nation chairman of the party, Umar Damagun led National Working Committee, (NWC) has insisted on going ahead with the convention.

In a post on his verified Facebook account, Saraki insisted that moving ahead with it would only deepen division and uncertainty within the party.

“It is clear that going ahead with the National Convention in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025, will only serve to further fuel the present crisis. Therefore, going ahead with the Convention as scheduled is a waste of efforts. It does not have my support.”

He pointed out that the result may not stand due to what he described as “extensive political and legal controversies” surrounding it.

He added that the PDP risks plunging deeper into crisis if it proceeds with the Ibadan convention amid conflicting court orders and unresolved internal disputes.

According to him, the only viable path toward peace, stability, and credibility for the party is the immediate constitution of a Caretaker Committee to manage its affairs pending a proper elective convention that reflects unity and legality.

“We deliberated extensively on issues relating to the National Convention scheduled for 15–16 November 2025 in Ibadan.

“In summary, I expressed deep regret that despite the selfless and arduous efforts by some of us, the Convention has become mired in extensive controversy, both political and legal. This does not bode well for our party, and for Nigeria’s democracy in general.” Saraki said.

Saraki disclosed that the PDP is currently entangled in conflicting court judgments over the legality of the planned convention, raising fears that any outcome from the Ibadan meeting could later be invalidated by the courts.

“As it stands, the fact is that there are conflicting court orders in relation to the validity of the scheduled convention. As a result, there is no assurance as to whether the conduct and outcome of the convention will stand.”

The former Senate President stressed that legal battles over internal party matters are counterproductive and urged party leaders to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

“Political matters can hardly be resolved through the courts. Affairs of political parties are best resolved amicably with all sides seated round the table. Legal battles will only continue to cause friction.”

Saraki advised the Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team, led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu (Wakilin Adamawa), which had visited him for consultations, to urgently recommend the formation of a Caretaker Committee within 48 hours.

He said such a committee would provide a neutral structure to manage the party, reconcile aggrieved factions, and prepare the ground for a credible and inclusive national convention.

“My advice to the BOT team is that the only solution available to us now is for the party to set up a Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the party for the time being. This must be done in the next two days. This is the path to true reconciliation and stability of the Party.”

He further warned that without resolving the lingering crisis, the PDP risks losing the confidence of its members and aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“No serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the platform of the PDP, not knowing whether his or her nomination will be valid or declared null and void,” he added.

Success Or Failure Of 2027 Elections In Your Hands, Uzodimma Charges Editors

0
Hope Uzodimma- Governor of Imo State

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has declared that the credibility or otherwise of the upcoming 2027 elections will largely depend on the role of Editors.

He said their reportage and opinion moulding before, during, and after the elections will determine how Nigerians appreciate its outcome.

Addressing the editors in Abuja on Wednesday at the start of their 2025 All Nigerian Editors Conference,  Uzodimma declared ” what you do between now and 2027 election will determine not only what Nigerians know about 2027,but how they experience it. You will have to choose whether to frame candidates as threats or alternatives. ”

The Governor  who was the keynote Speaker at the event noted that as the mirror through which the society views matters,  it was incumbent on editors to shape public opinion towards credible elections rather than feast on the perceived shortcomings.

He said they could achieve that by laying emphasis on national interest rather than bow to the pull of proprietary or commercial interests.

“National interest  must be your editorial North star. National interest in an election year means coverage that informs without inflamming, that holds power accountable without treating every contest as a catastrophe, that allows citizens to make choices without making them believe that the process is irredeemably broken”, he submitted

Uzodimma, who spoke on the theme: 2027: EDITORS AS CATALYSTS OF DEMOCRACY, NATIONAL COHESION AND ELECTORAL INTEGRITY,  insisted that editors must assume responsibility for this core aspect of elections instead of isolating themselves from it.

According to him, ” editors often treat electoral integrity as someone’s else responsibility…INEC, the executive, security agencies and civil society organisations. But it is yours too because you shape the information environment in which citizens form opinions and reach judgments.”

The Imo governor challenged editors to rise  above proprietary interest, commercial and political considerations, and other sundry distractions to ensure that their practice contributed to a credible election in 2027.

He cautioned them not to allow “rumours and tribalism to masquerade as journalism as that would compromise the electoral integrity even before a single vote was  cast.

” If unverified claims about rigging circulate unchecked in your pages or on your platforms,  you have undermined the process regardless of INEC’s competence ‘, Uzodimma argued.

He however called on them to ensure that they use their services to achieve national cohesion by avoiding divisive publications.

The governor who is the Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, noted that because the public rely on the editors to assess the integrity of elections,  they must have national cohesion in mind while helping to mould public opinion.

” Let 2027 be the election year where the Nigerian media became architects of a shared democratic future, where you demonstrated that journalism can be vigorous, engaging, commercially viable and work in the service of national cohesion “, Uzodimma concluded.

It Is Difficult Being In Opposing Political Camp With My Deputy – Gov Diri

Duoye Diri

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has affirmed that he will not force  his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, to follow him to his new political nest- the All Progressive Congress, APC.

The Source reports that Governor Diri who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, and is currently serving his second term in office, had on November 3, 2025, defected to the APC to the shock and surprise of not a few.

But his Deputy not only resisted the pressure to join his principal, but headed for an Abuja High Court to stem an alleged impeachment move against him by the State legislators over the development.

It is widely believed that the Bayelsa State Governor who is said to be perceiving the stance of his Deputy as a challenge, is leaving no stone unturned to either woo or cajole Senator Ewhrudjakpo to also jump ship.

But speaking during the weekly Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Governor Diri emphasized the need to constructively engage his Deputy rather than forcing him to follow him to the APC .

A statement from his media aide, Daniel Alabrah, noted that while the Governor is mindful of the difficulties  presented by the two principal officials of Bayelsa State founding themselves in opposing political camps, he nevertheless believes that dialogue will produce the desired result.

Already, according to the statement, the policy of engagement between the Governor and his Deputy has started yielding positive results, with the latter withdrawing the case he filed at an Abuja High Court against his purported impeachment by the state law makers.

” Let me address an issue that has been a subject of speculation in the media. I do not intend to force people to join the APC, but rather to appeal to them to see reason with me .

“I might have the power today but not tomorrow. It is actually difficult for the Governor to be on one side, and the Deputy on another.

“But we will continue to talk ,and we might end up in the same party tomorrow .

“We must not heat up the polity. We are done with violence in Bayelsa state . We are brothers, and we are one. Politics should be for the development of the State, and not to fight one another”, Diri stated .

The Governor had on October 15, resigned his membership of the PDP, citing the festering internal crisis rocking the party as a major reason.

However, his Deputy and a handful of others, particularly, within the PDP circle in the state, never floated on the same page with him.

“I Withdrew From Anambra Gov. Race Before Election, Had No Capacity To Contest – Ezenwafor, PDP Candidate

0
Chief Jude Ezenwafor

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The suspended Governorship Candidate of the embattled Peoples Democratic party, PDP, in the just concluded Anambra’ State Election, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, has dismissed his purported suspension by the leadership of the party as a huge joke.

This is as he stated that he does not recognize the Dr Chidi Chidebe–led State Executive Committee SEC  that spearheaded the said suspension.

The Source reports that the SEC had on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, slammed a month-long  suspension order on Ezenwafor, citing alleged compromise during and after the November 8 gubernatorial polls, as a major reason.

The State Chairman of the Party, Dr Chidebe who announced the  suspension, at the end of the  Party’s Executive Committee meeting noted that the party’s flag bearer refused to campaign ,and call for assistance from the party in the count down to the polls .

“Throughout the campaign period, the Candidate exhibited attitudes and tendencies that were not only uncooperative, but outrightly destructive to the collective interest of the party.

“After reviewing the activities of the candidate, the Committee suspended him for one month, and recommended him for further disciplinary actions to the State disciplinary committee”, Dr Chidebe stated.

But reacting to the development on Wednesday, the PDP Governorship candidate insisted that the State Executive Committee does not have the legal authority to suspend him ..

“In the first place, I do not recognize Chidebe and his group as the leadership of the party in Anambra’ state .

“I am the leader of the PDP in Anambra State. They (the state executive committee members) do not have the powers to suspend me.

“PDP has an Administrative Secretary appointed by the National Executive Committee NEC”, Ezenwafor noted.

Responding to the allegations of compromise and abysmal performance, Ezenwafor stated that he formally withdrew from the race, hours before the commencement of voting.

“I withdrew from the race hours before the election because I lacked the capacity to run on it . I actually tried to save the party, but nobody was willing to take over the baton” he noted.

Finally, NAFDAC Bans Sachet Alcohol Drink

Sachet Alcoholic Drinks

By Akinwale Kasali

After several months of back and forth, the National Agency of Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has ordered the Ban on the Production and Sale of Alchoholic Beverages packaged in sachets and small bottles below 200ml.

At a Press Briefing, NAFDAC Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye gave the directive during in Abuja.

The ban takes effect from December 2025, the agency said.

She said, “The proliferation of high-alcohol-content beverages in sachets and small containers has made such products easily accessible, affordable, and concealable, leading to widespread misuse and addiction among minors and commercial drivers,” Adeyeye said.

“This public health menace has been linked to increased incidences of domestic violence, road accidents, school dropouts, and social vices across communities.”

According to her, the directive follows a resolution by the Senate highlighting concerns over cheap alcohol drinks packaged in sachets being easily accessed by minors and contributing to social problems.

Adeyeye noted that the agency had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with industry stakeholders to a phased ban with previous deadlines pushed from 2023 and now December 2025 .

She, noted that no further extension will be granted following Senate resolution, urging retailers and manufacturers to comply with the directive.

Adeyeye reiterated that the ban is not punitive but protective to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Nigerians.

She also explained that the agency will be collaborating with security agencies to ensure the full enforcement of the ban, effective  January 2026.

“This ban is not punitive; it is protective. It is aimed at safeguarding the health and future of our children and youth. The decision is rooted in scientific evidence and public health considerations.

“We cannot continue to sacrifice the well-being of Nigerians for short-term economic gain. The health of a nation is its true wealth,” she added.
