South-West PDP Reconciliatory Meets Gbenga Daniel

By Akinwale Kasali

Governor Seyi Makinde and other top Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftains and in the South West are not leaving any stone unturned against the 2023  general election.

A delegation of the South West Reconciliation Committee of the Party, has met with former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, at his Sagamu, Ogun State home, with a resolution that the former governor must return to lead the Party in the State out of its current crisis.

The delegation to Daniel’s house included Governor Makinde, Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Zonal Caretaker Chairman of the Party, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro; and other party stalwarts.

Governor Makinde extolled Daniel’s capacity  as a politician, his doggedness,  and mobilization prowess.

He said the party in the South West needed to take his stand and tell the national leadership what he wants.

Makinde said if all former Governors of the PDP in the South West would rise to take back their party, the party at the national level will not have a choice than to align with it,  and forge ahead.

The Governor recalled the crucial role Daniel played in reorganising PDP in Oyo State before the 2019 elections to return it to back to winning ways in the state.

On his part, the former Governor of Osun State  and the Chairman of the Reconciliation Team, Oyinlola, said he had met with three groups in Ogun State and the resolution was: “If we have to solidify our stand in Ogun, you (Daniel) have to take charge.”

He assured that once the leaders in the South West presented a common front, the national leadership would comply.

The leader of a PDP faction in Ogun State, Dr. Remi Bakare, warned that all reconciliatory efforts could come to nought if all parties were not ready to reach a compromise.

Bakare said the only way forward was for the national leadership of the party to dissolve all factions and reconstitute the state party structure under the leadership of Otunba Daniel.

In his reaction,  Daniel said the crisis in Ogun State PDP was very easy to solve if all parties are made to know their place, adding that the solution to the problem must be all encompassing.

He said: “I have relationships with practically everybody.

“The PDP is still a strong brand, if everybody comes together.

“Our administration remains a strong reference for governance in the state and you can see that almost everyone who has or is in power came from PDP.”

Daniel laid more emphasis on the need for the party hierarchy in Abuja to realise the uniqueness of the South West so that they can properly intervene without truncating the process.

Immediate past Governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, waa a thorn in the flesh of his predecessor, he destabilized his businesses due to his upport for the election of the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who contested on the platform of the APC, at the expense of Amosun’s Candidate.

Daniel however pointed out that he is a statesman who was out to protect the interest of the state and not acting as a politician.

Shortly after the election, some of his businesses grounded by Amosun, especially Conference Hotel and Suites in Abeokuta, which had gone to rot when the former governor stopped him from opening it to business after completion, have come back to life.

This Online medium gathered that Daniel has renewed his bid for the national Chairmanship of the Party.

He was said to have made this known to the members of the Reconciliation Committee on Wednesday.

His initial bid for the PDP national chairman’s seat in 2017 ended in controversy as the seat was given to the incumbent, Uche Secondus, at a convention in Abuja, with the heavy influence of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, is set to throw his hat into the PDP National Chairmanship race.

Now in the early months of 1973, as Enoch wallowed in his confused state, he heard the rumours that God could do all things and that all he needed was to meet and know God. Well, for him,  that did  not sound humiliating or degrading, he could make do with that. Not long after, he was invited by his uncle, Rev Chris Fajemirokun who was aware of his confused state as well as the challenges of his health and daughter’s.
He was assured of the awesomeness of God and that he would be visiting God in a living Church where miraculous things happened. Was he ready for another adventure? No! However, he had no choice when he remembered that if he stopped trying, he would be swallowed up in torment. Soon, he agreed with his wife, Folu that this time they would go and check out the nearby Church. This was a Church founded by Rev Josiah Akindayomi named the Redeemed Christian Church of God situated at 9 Willoughby Street, Ebute- Meta, Lagos, Nigeria.
Preceding the coming of Enoch and Folu, God had intimated Rev. Josiah Akindayomi that a well learned man would come to the church and would eventually be his long awaited successor. On that fateful day, Enoch and Folu, who were a frustrated couple simply looking for solution to their problems sneaked into the church and hid behind the pews observing the activities of the day.
For Enoch, considering his academic prowess and sense of reasoning as an  Applied Mathematics Doctorate student, he felt foolish to be sitting under a group of “stack illiterates” claiming to be searching for solution to his challenges. But for some unexplainable reason he did not walk out of the dilapidated structure called a Church even in the heat of the Holy Ghost jamborees being demonstrated all around them.
He also noticed that the building did not look like his idea of a Church compared to Anglican giants Cathedral he was used to.
The only striking feature that contrasted the shabby looking structure of the Church was the sign post which read the name, constructed and spelt intelligently, The Redeemed Christian Church of God. As the service progressed, he felt uncomfortable with the noisy worship compared to the seemingly holy, serene and quiet worship in the orthodox Churches he had sometimes worshipped. Yet he endured in anticipation of a miracle.
Not long after, Rev Josiah Akindayomi, handsome, tall and dark skinned began to preach a powerful message to the congregation as he expounded the Word of God and Biblical truths. Enoch was fascinated as the preacher boasted about the miracle working power of God being able to solve any problem. Rev. Josiah ministered with vibrancy and passion, totally convinced of the God he talked about.
After the message, an altar call was made but Enoch and Folu were resolute not to go out to give their lives to Christ, since they did not even know what it meant or entailed in details. Before the close of the service, Rev Josiah  who was full of the Holy Spirit and discernment alerted that he was excited because God had brought into the Church, his successor who would continue the work when he is gone to be with the Lord.
Time after Time, Enoch and Folu kept attending Church meetings. On that glorious day, the 29th of July 1973, Enoch being 31 years old finally accepted Jesus into his heart as his personal Lord and Savior as Rev Josiah was preaching the Word of God, the presence that surrounded Enoch felt electrified.
He sensed urgency in his spirit to make a change in his ways, he knew something had been missing in his life all along and this was his moment to receive the Joy. He could hardly stay in his seat as the Word of God pierced through his hungry and weary heart. Soon an altar call was made and right before the eyes of everyone, Enoch was there at the altar, kneeling and sobbing, asking Jesus to come into his life to be his Lord And saviour.
That was the defining moment in his life. From that moment everything took a dynamic shift towards God and he was baptised by immersion. Quoting him, “Years ago, when a problem pushed me to The Redeemed Christian Church of God, I came expecting because I was told that the Prayer there was sure fire. I came and I met a church building that look wretched.
I was a lecturer in the university and was used to going to the cathedral. I only entered the church because the problem that was bigger than me was pushing me. Instead of dealing with my problem, they started asking me to confess my sins and to forsake them I thought, ‘These ignorant people. They do not know philosophy. They do not know sociology. They do not know psychology’. I said within me that it was not there fault but what brought me otherwise what would I be doing in the company of ignorant people like these?…..
One day, it just occurred to me that something must be wrong with me. I thought within me that if they had asked for money, I would have given them. All they asked me to do was to surrender to my Maker. I was suffering, yet I was pompous. All they asked me to do was to confess and repent of my sins. That day I surrendered. The Almighty God washed me in his blood and I became a brand new creature this was the turning point in my own life.”
Enoch had just received a fresh fire and he could not be stopped. He felt different and elated. The fears, doubts and insecurity that had accompanied him over years had evaporated into thin air. He felt he was now on his feet. One of the unexplainable differences he felt was a gentle peace and joy in the heart.
As he had turned a new leaf, he bid goodbye to the company of wine bibbers and the line of ladies that used to surround him. He began to discover the true inner beauty that God had embedded in his wife. Oh! Love began to grow and glow in their home. As things began to change inside Enoch, the regular sicknesses he encountered began to fade away.

2023: President Buhari Will Never Support Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition – Sule Lamido |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has dimmed the hopes of All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential aspiration, following his recent statement and disclosure.

Lamido,  a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, said the days of the APC are numbered, as President Buhari will not support Tinubu’s candidature in the coming 2023 general election.

Lamido stated this at the inauguration of the Jigawa State People’s Democratic Party, PDP, reconciliation committee in Dutse.

He claimed that in the near future, there would be no more APC because the whole of APC is made up of two people  –  Buhari and Tinubu.

“Truth of the matter is that very soon, there would be no APC in Nigeria because it’s made up of two persons – Buhari and Tinubu”

“And I swear to God Buhari will not support Tinubu’s candidacy coming 2023 general election.

“So since they are the leaders of APC, and they have issues, everyone will find his way and that would be the end of APC in Nigeria”

Lamido, however, said the break-up of the APC does not mean  PDP’s victory unless the members unite.

“We also have our own problems. It is either we correct or Nigerians would continue to suffer”

“We must forget all our grievances, set aside all our personal interest for us to win because it’s only PDP that can be able to rule this country” he stated.

Lamido charged the members of the reconciliation committee to be just and fair in their approach to aggrieved members.

He appealed to aggrieved members to put the party before their interest, for the victory of the party in the forthcoming Election.

Wike and Tambuwal

By Collins Opurozor

Chibuike Amaechi. He also said Rotimi became his name one way or the other. You remember that former Governor of Rivers State? He sometimes appears taciturn, sometimes even effeminate, but he always appears foxy. A lion roars. A fox is cunning. A lion is masculine. I don’t know how an Amaechi became known as the Lion of Ubima, his village, instead of the Fox of Rivers State. I still don’t know how such unmetaphorical identity came about. But, I think, as always, Jesus is the answer.

So, Chibuike once said a few things about Nyesom Wike. They are both Igbo who may not wish to identify as such, or they are both non-Igbo who are being coerced into Igboness. Jimanze Ego-Alowes, now writing from the Heavens, once recommended while on earth that DNA tests were the final, conclusive phase of the identity debates. So, sincerely, I don’t know where the both came from. Until they agree to DNA tests and show me the results, Jesus shall remain the only answer.

So, Chibuike was speaking to BBC Igbo. He was speaking Igbo. His Igbo language quickly reminded me of one Lagos boy in our days at Nsukka. “My mama tell me say I be Ibo”. That was the only proof that fellow had that he was Igbo. When that fellow tried to speak, he spoke exactly like Chibuike Amaechi, who was asked by BBC Igbo what his “uche (mind)” was about the 2023 presidential election, and he replied “enweghi m uche (sense)”. But, interestingly, he also said Wike talks and acts like a child (without uche), and that Wike does not have the capacity to govern, and that he could not have made Wike his successor, and that it was Madam Jonathan (There is God o!!!) that made Wike governor. Amaechi smiled wryly, and mocked the Jonathans (now the husband and wife) whom he alleged Wike has abandoned like a bad habit.

There is a difference between to rebut and to refute. They both suggest nearly the same thing. But Wike did neither. If he had “uche”, shouldn’t he have at least reminded us that Amaechi was out to discredit him and destroy his “giant strides?” Some would have believed him. Even Rochas Okorocha visited him and refused to go with Uche (Nwosu). Funny Rochas!

Today, it was reported that Wike gave to Sokoto State N500,000,000 for whatever purpose. For those who are not so good with numbers, Wike gave Sokoto State Five Hundred Million Naira. It means one billion Naira divided by two. What did he get in return? A wonderful opportunity to take photographs with his fellow governor and an emir. I remember watching Wike sometime in the past pour insults publicly on a revered traditional ruler from Rivers State. And Bob Marley sang, “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery…”

A Fulani scholar recently told me that Wike wants the Governor of Sokoto State, Tambuwal (my mother calls him Tambawa), to pick him as the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate come 2023. This bookworm however said that Wike would never be allowed to be on the same ticket with Tambuwal, and averred that Wike might do the unthinkable to replace his boss when victory is finally achieved. I don’t know about that. But I know that Fulani scholars have read more books about the character and political tendencies of the Igbo than Igbo scholars have read about the Fulani. This debate will continue elsewhere, maybe after Wike’s DNA test.

So, it may be true that Wike wants to be in Aso Rock. And for that reason, the woes of Rivers people can wait while the needs of Sokoto can be met. This is unfortunate! This is the root cause of the  militant activities in the Niger Delta. Sellouts, loafers and nitwits who betray the genuine expectations of their people just for political favours!

I know Wike has been inviting some political leaders to Rivers to show them the rural roads he has completed. But let him be sincere enough to tell them that the funds for those projects were from the local governments, not the state. Let Wike tell Rivers people what the jumbo allocations to the state have brought to the them! Let him convince Rivers people that their priority has become to dole out half a billion to another state in the far North. Which disaster in Sokoto can be worse that than the economic hardships occasioned by Covid-19? What economic recovery plan has Wike offered Rivers people?

I want to sleep. Ambitious people have never won the Presidency of Nigeria. The only way to be in the Presidency is to have no ambition. Jonathan. Shagari. Yar’Adua. Obasanjo. They had been less ambitious, even unambitious. When Buhari lost his ambition, they gave him Aso Rock. Zik had ambition. Awo had ambition. Abiola had ambition. Ekwueme had ambition. Did they win? Atiku has also been accused of being too ambitious. Osita Chidoka once said that Igbo people are known for their uche, uchu and egwu chukwu. Let Wike work on his mind, rededicate himself to lofty ideals and reconcile with his God. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. But I do know people who did what Wike is doing never got close to Aso Rock at last. I need to sleep.

Covid-19: Researchers Reveal How 5.8 million Nigerians Were Saved |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

As Nigeria grapples with rising infections caused by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of International Public Health  Researchers have revealed that the lockdown and restrictions imposed in the country between March and May 2020  averted not less than 5.8 million infections.

The team of researchers drawn from the United States, South Africa and Nigeria, said their findings “support the use of restricted mobility as a measure for infection control in Nigeria.”

They, however, pointed out that even during the lockdown and restrictions, noticeable spikes in people’s movement occurred on Saturdays and Sundays which could be attributed to social events (e.g. parties [or Ówàmbē in a local dialect]) and religious activities.

The research findings  which are based on information from confirmed COVID-19 cases provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) from February 27 to July 21 2020  and Nigeria specific mobility data from Google in same period, was published by the highly reputable public health journal, JAMA Network Open.

The Researchers were drawn from institutions in the United States (i.e. Parexel International, Harvard university and Holly Hill hospital), South Africa (i.e. Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University) and Nigeria (i.e. Benue State University as well as Universities of Ibadan, Lagos and Calabar).

They explained that their work was motivated by the need to better understand how the lockdown affected peoples’ movement and community spread of COVID-19. This information could inform future public health responses to subsequent waves of COVID-19.

“…our study goals were to measure the association of government-mandated closures and restrictions with aggregate mobility, to evaluate associations between aggregate mobility and number of individuals with laboratory confirmed SARS-COV-2 infections and to estimate the number of SARS COV-2 infections that may have been averted.

They observed that the World Health Organization (WHO), Director General , Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus  had on January 30, 2020 declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, asking all countries to prepare for containment,  active surveillance, early detection, isolation, case management and contact tracing.

“Most countries including Nigeria  (Africa’s largest  economy and the most populous country), responded accordingly,  and part of the Nigerian government response included socioeconomic and public health interventions to reduce impact of the pandemic.

“Socio economic interventions included providing cash transfers, lines of credit and food assistance to poor and high-risk households, while public health interventions  included government-mandated closures and restrictions on schools, social gatherings and all forms  of transportation (locally referred to as lockdown)

The closures and restrictions were initiated on March 30, 2020 and partially eased on May 4, 2020. The researchers used sophisticated statistical techniques to analyze NCDC data on daily infection counts, anonymized Google mobility data from Nigeria (covering about 40 million individuals who activated location history on their smartphone google accounts), and publicly available information on the lockdown (e.g. dates for initiating and partially easing the lockdown).

The cross-sectional study found that government-mandated closures and restrictions in Nigeria owing to COVID-19 was associated with significantly reduced aggregate mobility everywhere (except in residential areas) and may have averted up to 5.8 million corona virus infections. Additionally, they found that community spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria may have been faster in residential areas , transit stations (e.g. motor parks) and workplaces (including likely venues of social events).

While stressing that “our findings support the use of restricted mobility as a measure of infection control in Nigeria should there be additional COVID-19 waves in the future”,  the researchers  pointed out that  “restrictions on movement are unsustainable in the long term, and that “future closure and restrictions, if warranted,  need to be more effective.

“Suggested areas of improvement include tougher restrictions on movement and more robust contact tracing in residential areas, transit hubs and workplaces, greater testing capacity and more political support for testing; greater access to COVID-19 data for policy and process evaluation to identify opportunities for efficiency gains: and more personal responsibility above and beyond the public health campaign dubbed the 3 Ws (i.e washing hands (or using hand sanitizer regularly wearing a cloth mask over the nose and mouth, and waiting 6 feet apart (or social distancing).”

Yoruba Elders Back Gov. Akeredolu Over Quit Notice For Fulani Herdsmen |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Yoruba Elders have thrown their weight behind the Governor  of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu’s notice to herders to quit the forests in the state following the growing cases of kidnappings traced to criminals hiding in the areas.

The elders, who also took a swipe at the Presidency over the latter’s statement cautioning the Governor  against his directive, accused the Presidency of undue meddling in issues within the purview of the state.

Governor Akeredolu had given Fulani herdsmen in the State a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the areas, and banned them from operating at night. This has generated reactions from the Presidency which cautioned the Governor over such action.

Governor Akeredolu has, however, remained defiant, by not rescinding his decision on the seven- day ultimatum quit notice to the Herdsmen.

The Fulani leadership under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, cried out over the Governor’s action, in which the Presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, cautioned the Governor  against his action, saying the herders cannot leave the forests for any reason.

The development has drawn the attention of some Yoruba elders who accused the Federal  Government  of abandoning its core responsibilities to meddle in issues within the purview of State  Governors.

Speaking, the  Coalition of Oduduwa Elders, the Yoruba elders warned the Presidency to steer clear of governance issues in Ondo or any other state in the country, saying the Governor’s action was the best in protecting the lives of Ondo citizens because, according to them, the Federal  Government  which has exclusive control of conventional security architecture in the country, has failed to protect the people.

The group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr Tunde Aremu and National Secretary, Barr. Mrs Folake Ajasin, respectively, asked the Governor not to be distracted by actions of those it noted, ” have failed to safeguard the lives of Nigerians” but be firm and decisive in his actions aimed at giving Ondo people safety.

Regretting that Ondo forests have become launching pads for herdsmen, the elders noted that the “herdsmen coming into the state are doing so not for the purpose of grazing, but killing and destroying property.

“The marauders, who usually come without cattle, engage in kidnappings, attacking communities in the guerrilla style of warfare, killings, burn houses and destroying other property! Should the governor fold his hands and look the other way while his people are being massively kidnapped, killed and their property destroyed? No, these have to stop now. And the only way to stop it is what Chief Akeredolu has done,” they said.

The president of the United States Donald John Trump gave a valedictory farewell speech not quite long.

It was an emotional moment as the man who held the saddle and steered the ship of state stood before the nation and gave account of his stewardship for the last time as it stands now.

One thing stood out for me in that speech and that is the unyielding and the unbowed spirit of Donald J Trump.

The sheer boldness in standing on that podium to repudiate the corrupt system he had fought for 4years was invigorating and exhilarating.

He spoke unequivocally that he was the first non establishment person to ever walk through the corridors of power and yet fulfilled all his campaign promises.

He gave America the greatest economy in it’s history. Made America the number one oil producer in the world.

Brought America’s unemployment rate to the lowest in over 70 years.

Gave the country historic tax cuts, removed regulations that killed businesses, grew small businesses, fortified the states military to the most powerful status ever in history with an annual budget of over 2 trillion dollars Bigger than the whole of Africa’s yearly budget.

He pulled America out of useless Pacific organizations such as the Paris Accord and compelled NATO countries to pay the fair share of their contributions. Made Germany, South Korea and Japan to pay for the US troops stationed in their countries.

He recognized the Isreali sovereignty over the Golan heights and recognized Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Isreal. Under his watch Isreal signed peace accords with about seven nations and opened diplomatic ties with those nations. The Abraham Accord.

He signed executive orders recognizing religious freedom in America.

He dropped the big bombshell; he is the first president in decades that never started a new war rather he pulled back American troops out of Afghanistan and Syria. He dared the military industrial complex.

He single handedly ended the menace of ISIS and killed Albagdadi like a dog. He snuffed out the life out of the terrorist of the Iranian state Soleimani Khameni with great aerial precision.

He kept the American borders safe and built the damn wall. Every terrorist mad dog was put on a leash because they knew he was in charge.

He hit China so well till China signed a trade deal with America but rarely did the ink dry up than Covid-19 struck. He came short of saying the open secrete, it was an economic psychological and biological warfare. Sadly, America under Donald lost this war.

In the midst of a ravaging pandemic that shut the world’s greatest economy and others down without notice China’s economy rebounced from the pre — pandemic economic losses for the first time in 30 years to a 6 percent economic growth in the midst of the pandemic. Historical miracle but we all know the story.

At his last moments, he still exudes grace and candour. He still wears that robe of royalty and forever adorned coat of power and wields the insignia of authority.

He refused to legitimize his successor. Not one mention of his name. He meant every word he had ever said. He concedes nothing.

Seemingly, defeated and run out of power by the deep hegemony of the dark alleys, he stood one last time to give them the middle finger, he was never going to walk away sullen, broken and shoulders sagged.

In the end he told them that this isn’t the end but the beginning of an incredible journey. ” Our movement has just begun”, he said.

He knows the torrents of attack coming in the days ahead.

The persecution and the intimidation of his supporters but in his final act he showed his unflinching and unwavering supporters how to be the art of the deal.

To Take the gauntlet, look straight at the barrel of the gun and cry if I die I die a free man and not with chains of slavery and servitude. The chains they’re placing on the people through the mainstream media — the chain of the mind — he walked through those steps the commander in chief and he descends those steps still the commander in chief.

A new dark Dawn is here.

I Go With A Loyal And Joyful Heart |The Source

By Donald Trump (For The Records)

My fellow Americans: Four years ago, we launched a great national effort to rebuild our country, to renew its spirit, and to restore the allegiance of this government to its citizens.  In short, we embarked on a mission to make America great again — for all Americans.

As I conclude my term as the 45th President of the United States, I stand before you truly proud of what we have achieved together.  We did what we came here to do — and so much more.

This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous.  We extend our best wishes, and we also want them to have luck — a very important word.

I’d like to begin by thanking just a few of the amazing people who made our remarkable journey possible.

First, let me express my overwhelming gratitude for the love and support of our spectacular First Lady, Melania.  Let me also share my deepest appreciation to my daughter Ivanka, my son-in-law Jared, and to Barron, Don, Eric, Tiffany, and Lara.  You fill my world with light and with joy.

I also want to thank Vice President Mike Pence, his wonderful wife Karen, and the entire Pence family.

Thank you as well to my Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows; the dedicated members of the White House Staff and the Cabinet; and all the incredible people across our administration who poured out their heart and soul to fight for America.

I also want to take a moment to thank a truly exceptional group of people: the United States Secret Service.  My family and I will forever be in your debt.  My profound gratitude as well to everyone in the White House Military Office, the teams of Marine One and Air Force One, every member of the Armed Forces, and state and local law enforcement all across our country.

Most of all, I want to thank the American people.  To serve as your President has been an honor beyond description.  Thank you for this extraordinary privilege.  And that’s what it is — a great privilege and a great honor.

We must never forget that while Americans will always have our disagreements, we are a nation of incredible, decent, faithful, and peace-loving citizens who all want our country to thrive and flourish and be very, very successful and good.  We are a truly magnificent nation.

All Americans were horrified by the assault on our Capitol.  Political violence is an attack on everything we cherish as Americans.  It can never be tolerated.

Now more than ever, we must unify around our shared values and rise above the partisan rancor, and forge our common destiny.

Four years ago, I came to Washington as the only true outsider ever to win the presidency.  I had not spent my career as a politician, but as a builder looking at open skylines and imagining infinite possibilities.  I ran for President because I knew there were towering new summits for America just waiting to be scaled.  I knew the potential for our nation was boundless as long as we put America first.

So I left behind my former life and stepped into a very difficult arena, but an arena nevertheless, with all sorts of potential if properly done.  America had given me so much, and I wanted to give something back.

Together with millions of hardworking patriots across this land, we built the greatest political movement in the history of our country.  We also built the greatest economy in the history of the world.  It was about “America First” because we all wanted to make America great again.  We restored the principle that a nation exists to serve its citizens.  Our agenda was not about right or left, it wasn’t about Republican or Democrat, but about the good of a nation, and that means the whole nation.

With the support and prayers of the American people, we achieved more than anyone thought possible.  Nobody thought we could even come close.

We passed the largest package of tax cuts and reforms in American history.  We slashed more job-killing regulations than any administration had ever done before.  We fixed our broken trade deals, withdrew from the horrible Trans-Pacific Partnership and the impossible Paris Climate Accord, renegotiated the one-sided South Korea deal, and we replaced NAFTA with the groundbreaking USMCA — that’s Mexico and Canada — a deal that’s worked out very, very well.

Also, and very importantly, we imposed historic and monumental tariffs on China; made a great new deal with China.  But before the ink was even dry, we and the whole world got hit with the China virus.  Our trade relationship was rapidly changing, billions and billions of dollars were pouring into the U.S., but the virus forced us to go in a different direction.

The whole world suffered, but America outperformed other countries economically because of our incredible economy and the economy that we built.  Without the foundations and footings, it wouldn’t have worked out this way.  We wouldn’t have some of the best numbers we’ve ever had.

We also unlocked our energy resources and became the world’s number-one producer of oil and natural gas by far.  Powered by these policies, we built the greatest economy in the history of the world.  We reignited America’s job creation and achieved record-low unemployment for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, women — almost everyone.

Incomes soared, wages boomed, the American Dream was restored, and millions were lifted from poverty in just a few short years.  It was a miracle.  The stock market set one record after another, with 148 stock market highs during this short period of time, and boosted the retirements and pensions of hardworking citizens all across our nation.  401(k)s are at a level they’ve never been at before.  We’ve never seen numbers like we’ve seen, and that’s before the pandemic and after the pandemic.

We rebuilt the American manufacturing base, opened up thousands of new factories, and brought back the beautiful phrase: “Made in the USA.”

To make life better for working families, we doubled the child tax credit and signed the largest-ever expansion of funding for childcare and development.  We joined with the private sector to secure commitments to train more than 16 million American workers for the jobs of tomorrow.

When our nation was hit with the terrible pandemic, we produced not one, but two vaccines with record-breaking speed, and more will quickly follow.  They said it couldn’t be done but we did it.  They call it a “medical miracle,” and that’s what they’re calling it right now: a “medical miracle.”

Another administration would have taken 3, 4, 5, maybe even up to 10 years to develop a vaccine.  We did in nine months.

We grieve for every life lost, and we pledge in their memory to wipe out this horrible pandemic once and for all.

When the virus took its brutal toll on the world’s economy, we launched the fastest economic recovery our country has ever seen.  We passed nearly $4 trillion in economic relief, saved or supported over 50 million jobs, and slashed the unemployment rate in half.  These are numbers that our country has never seen before.

We created choice and transparency in healthcare, stood up to big pharma in so many ways, but especially in our effort to get favored-nations clauses added, which will give us the lowest prescription drug prices anywhere in the world.

We passed VA Choice, VA Accountability, Right to Try, and landmark criminal justice reform.

We confirmed three new justices of the United States Supreme Court.  We appointed nearly 300 federal judges to interpret our Constitution as written.

For years, the American people pleaded with Washington to finally secure the nation’s borders.  I am pleased to say we answered that plea and achieved the most secure border in U.S. history.  We have given our brave border agents and heroic ICE officers the tools they need to do their jobs better than they have ever done before, and to enforce our laws and keep America safe.

We proudly leave the next administration with the strongest and most robust border security measures ever put into place.  This includes historic agreements with Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, along with more than 450 miles of powerful new wall.

We restored American strength at home and American leadership abroad.  The world respects us again.  Please don’t lose that respect.

We reclaimed our sovereignty by standing up for America at the United Nations and withdrawing from the one-sided global deals that never served our interests.  And NATO countries are now paying hundreds of billions of dollars more than when I arrived just a few years ago.  It was very unfair.  We were paying the cost for the world.  Now the world is helping us.

And perhaps most importantly of all, with nearly $3 trillion, we fully rebuilt the American military — all made in the USA.  We launched the first new branch of the United States Armed Forces in 75 years: the Space Force.  And last spring, I stood at Kennedy Space Center in Florida and watched as American astronauts returned to space on American rockets for the first time in many, many years.

We revitalized our alliances and rallied the nations of the world to stand up to China like never before.

We obliterated the ISIS caliphate and ended the wretched life of its founder and leader, al Baghdadi.  We stood up to the oppressive Iranian regime and killed the world’s top terrorist, Iranian butcher Qasem Soleimani.

We recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

As a result of our bold diplomacy and principled realism, we achieved a series of historic peace deals in the Middle East.  Nobody believed it could happen.  The Abraham Accords opened the doors to a future of peace and harmony, not violence and bloodshed.  It is the dawn of a new Middle East, and we are bringing our soldiers home.

I am especially proud to be the first President in decades who has started no new wars.

Above all, we have reasserted the sacred idea that, in America, the government answers to the people.  Our guiding light, our North Star, our unwavering conviction has been that we are here to serve the noble everyday citizens of America.  Our allegiance is not to the special interests, corporations, or global entities; it’s to our children, our citizens, and to our nation itself.

As President, my top priority, my constant concern, has always been the best interests of American workers and American families.  I did not seek the easiest course; by far, it was actually the most difficult.  I did not seek the path that would get the least criticism.  I took on the tough battles, the hardest fights, the most difficult choices because that’s what you elected me to do.  Your needs were my first and last unyielding focus.

This, I hope, will be our greatest legacy: Together, we put the American people back in charge of our country.  We restored self-government.  We restored the idea that in America no one is forgotten, because everyone matters and everyone has a voice.  We fought for the principle that every citizen is entitled to equal dignity, equal treatment, and equal rights because we are all made equal by God.  Everyone is entitled to be treated with respect, to have their voice heard, and to have their government listen.  You are loyal to your country, and my administration was always loyal to you.

We worked to build a country in which every citizen could find a great job and support their wonderful families.  We fought for the communities where every American could be safe and schools where every child could learn.  We promoted a culture where our laws would be upheld, our heroes honored, our history preserved, and law-abiding citizens are never taken for granted.  Americans should take tremendous satisfaction in all that we have achieved together.  It’s incredible.

Now, as I leave the White House, I have been reflecting on the dangers that threaten the priceless inheritance we all share.  As the world’s most powerful nation, America faces constant threats and challenges from abroad.  But the greatest danger we face is a loss of confidence in ourselves, a loss of confidence in our national greatness.  A nation is only as strong as its spirit.  We are only as dynamic as our pride.  We are only as vibrant as the faith that beats in the hearts of our people.

No nation can long thrive that loses faith in its own values, history, and heroes, for these are the very sources of our unity and our vitality.

What has always allowed America to prevail and triumph over the great challenges of the past has been an unyielding and unashamed conviction in the nobility of our country and its unique purpose in history.  We must never lose this conviction.  We must never forsake our belief in America.

The key to national greatness lies in sustaining and instilling our shared national identity.  That means focusing on what we have in common: the heritage that we all share.

At the center of this heritage is also a robust belief in free expression, free speech, and open debate.  Only if we forget who we are, and how we got here, could we ever allow political censorship and blacklisting to take place in America.  It’s not even thinkable.  Shutting down free and open debate violates our core values and most enduring traditions. In America, we don’t insist on absolute conformity or enforce rigid orthodoxies and punitive speech codes.  We just don’t do that.  America is not a timid nation of tame souls who need to be sheltered and protected from those with whom we disagree.  That’s not who we are.  It will never be who we are.

For nearly 250 years, in the face of every challenge, Americans have always summoned our unmatched courage, confidence, and fierce independence.  These are the miraculous traits that once led millions of everyday citizens to set out across a wild continent and carve out a new life in the great West.  It was the same profound love of our God-given freedom that willed our soldiers into battle and our astronauts into space.

As I think back on the past four years, one image rises in my mind above all others.  Whenever I traveled all along the motorcade route, there were thousands and thousands of people.  They came out with their families so that they could stand as we passed, and proudly wave our great American flag.  It never failed to deeply move me.  I knew that they did not just come out to show their support of me; they came out to show me their support and love for our country.

This is a republic of proud citizens who are united by our common conviction that America is the greatest nation in all of history.  We are, and must always be, a land of hope, of light, and of glory to all the world.  This is the precious inheritance that we must safeguard at every single turn.

For the past four years, I have worked to do just that.  From a great hall of Muslim leaders in Riyadh to a great square of Polish people in Warsaw; from the floor of the Korean Assembly to the podium at the United Nations General Assembly; and from the Forbidden City in Beijing to the shadow of Mount Rushmore, I fought for you, I fought for your family, I fought for our country.  Above all, I fought for America and all it stands for — and that is safe, strong, proud, and free.

Now, as I prepare to hand power over to a new administration at noon on Wednesday, I want you to know that the movement we started is only just beginning.  There’s never been anything like it.  The belief that a nation must serve its citizens will not dwindle but instead only grow stronger by the day.

As long as the American people hold in their hearts deep and devoted love of country, then there is nothing that this nation cannot achieve.  Our communities will flourish.  Our people will be prosperous.  Our traditions will be cherished.  Our faith will be strong.  And our future will be brighter than ever before.

I go from this majestic place with a loyal and joyful heart, an optimistic spirit, and a supreme confidence that for our country and for our children, the best is yet to come.

Thank you, and farewell.  God bless you.  God bless the United States of America.

Education Secretaries will go back to schools to become class room teachers in Imo state.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. B.T.O Ikeagwuoha, made this known when he visited Ozisa F.M for a radio show Wednesday morning.

He said reasons for deploying the Education Secretaries in L.G.As is because of lack of teachers, coupled with the fact that many of them are idle in their various offices.

The Commissioner said instead of adding to the system by doing the assignment given to them, they resolved to abandon their offices to juncate.

He said some even go abroad on their own to transact private business without informing the authority.

He, therefore, insisted that their deployment will now make them add value to the system that they belong to.

The Commissioner further disclosed that new teachers will be recruited very soon to teach in primary and secondary schools of the state.

Information revealed that the State Government hired teachers from private and missionary schools.  Those that were hired to teach in public schools receive stipends from Government House.

The number of teachers borrowed from private and missionary schools, as we gathered, is up to 1000.

On the issue of Imo teachers refusing to return to schools on Monday when school will reopen,  Ikeagwuoha told Imolites that genuine teachers have been paid.

He said N.U.T members are still staff under Imo Government, therefore, cannot hold the Government to ransom.

He appealed to all teachers to return to schools on Monday to avoid problems.

“Being a Union Leader in Education does not make N.U.T members non staff. N.U.T members are not above the law” Ikeagwuoha said.

He revealed that the leaders of N.U.T in Imo have refused to come to him for discussion on salary.

He pointed out that those who are going round complaining that Imo Government has refused to pay them, are the ones who falsified their age and certificates just to remain in Service illegally.  He then declared that those who falsified their ages must go for retirement to allow the younger ones to come

“We cannot pay teachers who are not in our payroll” Ikeagwuoha said.

The first meeting of the Federal  Executive Council, (FEC), was held Wednesday.

The meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari approved a bill extending the retirement age for teachers in the country from 60 years to 65 years.

The bill, “Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers, 2021”, would be sent to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.

It seeks to give legal backing to new measures by the current administration to enhance the teaching profession in the country.

If approved by the lawmakers, the retirement age of teachers will move from 60 years to 65, while the years of service will also move from 35 to 40.

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who briefed  correspondents at the end of the council meeting, said some highlights of the bill include the introduction of bursary award, special rural posting allowances and other measures to attract the best brains to the profession.

President Buhari had during the 2020 Teachers’ day celebration, promised to extend the retirement age for teachers in the country.

There have been calls especially from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT), teachers umbrella body, to back up the pronouncement with a law.
