IMSG Warns Okorocha; Says He Is Working With Opposition PDP |The Source

0

The Imo State Government has accused former Governor Rochas Okorocha of working with the opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party to distract the Government of Governor Hope Uzodinma.

The Government said Okorocha has not hidden the fact that he has been corroborating with the opposition in order to achieve his set objectives.

In a Press Release signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary/ Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, the Government asked Okorocha to wake up and realise that he was mo longer the Governor of the State.

It also asked him to prepare and explain his lawless invasion of a legally sealed property, and stop from using the name of Governor Hope Uzodinma to seek attention.

Following is the full text of the Press Statement

“Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has suddenly found a new pastime – use of the name of Governor Hope Uzodimma to seek attention.

“No day passes without Senator Okorocha trying to use the name of Governor Uzodimma to either seek or divert attention of the public from activities linked to him, most of them reprehensible.

Senator Hope Uzodimma
Governor Hope Uzodimma

“Senator Okorocha’s recent ordeal where he wilfully broke the law by approaching the Royal Spring Estate belonging to his wife, to forcefully unseal it after the government had legally sealed the place, says it all about his mischievous intention to use Governor Uzodimma’s name to seek public notice.

“Senator Okorocha does not do this alone, but with the People’s Democratic Party in Imo State, his newest political ally. But we are not surprised.

“It is on record that Senator Okorocha recently said he is working in cahoots with the opposition to achieve his political ambition, and he has not hidden his romance with key PDP figures in Imo State to undermine the All Progressive Congress government of Governor Uzodimma.

“Those who have been reading the lips of Governor Uzodimma since he assumed office in January 15, 2020 know that he is not the type who patronizes agents of violence regardless of the circumstances.

“Unlike Senator Okorocha, Governor Uzodimma views use of agents of violence to achieve whatever purpose as a sign of weakness.

“That Governor Uzodimma enjoys the overwhelming support of Imo youths is because he cares more about their future through skill acquisition and education, as against warehousing them as cannon-fodder or dispensible lots for self aggrandizement as the likes of Senator Okorocha are wont to do.

“Nothing can be as embarrassing and unfortunate as a former governor deliberately flouting the law and instead of facing the reality, he is busy stoking flame with inciting comments he knows are not true representation of what the APC government of Governor Uzodimma stands for.

“Governor Uzodimma cherishes so much the lives and property of Imolites whose mandate he is holding and that explains his passion to ensure that security is given pride of place in Imo State.

“No amount of blackmail by Senator Okorocha or collaboration with political opponents of the Imo State government will deter Governor Uzodimma from standing on the oath of office he took regarding the protection of lives and property of the citizenry.

“Rather than go about seeking for unnecessary attention, hallucinating whether he has stopped being Governor of Imo State, and openly undermining the government of Governor Uzodimma, Senator Okorocha should eat the humble pie, face his case squarely with the police on Royal Spring Estate closure and where he thinks higher authorities can be of assistance, approach them with decorum and responsibly.

If Senator Okorocha really thinks he still has some love to show to the people he governed like an Emperor for eight years, he must start by letting them know of his sincere resolve to collaborate genuinely as a Senator representing them with Governor Uzodimma for the good of Imo State.”

Finally, Terrorists Hit Maiduguri Metropolis; Fatalities Recorded |The Source

By Adesina Soyooye

For over one year, the Boko Haram Terrorists tried to hit  Maiduguri metropolis. For long, they had tried to attack the University of Maiduguri, a citadel of learning which runs contrary to their beliefs.

The sect does not believe in Western education. Members say it is an abomination to acquire Western education.

As much as they tried to hit the metropolis, they were repelled by gallant Nigerian soldiers. Not this day.

Reports from Maiduguri say the terrorists, Tuesday, evening, February 22,  attacked the metropolis with bombs, other explosives and guns.

Nobody knows the number of fatalities for now, but residents who are running helter-skelter in confusion, confirm there are fatalities.

The explosions and exchange of gunfire between them and Security operatives, were said to be very heavy.

Their focus was, perhaps, the University, as they were said to have launched the attack on it from its North east, behind a Military trench.

Pandemonium is the order, residents around settlements of Mairi, Kaleri and Constein, say.

The attack came 24 hours after the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru gave the troops 48 hours to retake Marte Local Government, Borno State, where the insurgents sacked   a military base, took over the LGA, and hoisted their flags. It, also, came on the day the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, boasted that the Military would recover Marte from the insurgents soon.

Unfortunately, they hit Maiduguri, the heart of the State.

…Details later.

OPINION: The Fulani Burden in Governor Bala Mohammed’s Discourse |The Source

0

By Zacharys Anger Gundu

Governor Bala Mohammed is a ranking spokesperson for the Fulani of the whole world. He was the one who reminded us on a national television programme that the Fulani is a ‘global citizen’. This reminder was borne out of the fact that the Fulani are in several African countries in West and Central Africa.  He argued that the Fulani have no respect for land borders. His nationality is ‘just a Fulani man’ and when there is need for reprisal attacks, in a country like Nigeria, it’s not the Fulani man within Nigeria that takes responsibility but the Fulani man outside the country. Reprisals in Fulani tradition according to Governor Bala Mohammed are predicated on the culture of vengeance. The Governor had also argued on the programme that whatever monies Nigeria would spend to ‘settle’ the Fulani in one place would have to cover those in Nigeria and those in other countries. That could only mean that the Fulani of the whole world are targeting to choke the country as a second home if they are to come out of nomadism.

In that television appearance, Governor Bala Mohammmed had thrown up three explosive issues on the Fulani burden.  The first issue was the idea of the Fulani as a global citizen, blind to boundaries between countries and states. The second was the Fulani penchant for vengeance and self-help while the third was the idea that any ‘settlement’ of the Fulani of Nigeria is necessarily a ‘settlement’ of the Fulani of the whole world.

Even though each of these issues is loaded and complicates the Fulani burden on the country, Governor Bala Mohammed last week in his remarks at the closing ceremony of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) amplified his earlier position by not only justifying the Fulani substitution of the shepherd stick with the AK-47 but by also justifying the Fulani colonization of the Nigerian forest wherever it is found for grazing his animals. In these remarks, Governor Mohammed went further to argue that Government has failed to protect the Fulani culture of nomadic pastoralism and insofar as the Fulani traditional livelihood is threatened, the Fulani is justified to abandon his shepherd stick for the AK-47 with which he can better defend himself. The Governor also said the Fulani has the constitutional right to use any forest in the country to graze his cattle.  Hear him, ‘No person owns any forest, the forest is owned by Nigeria’.

It is quite clear to any discerning patriotic Nigerian that the country is carrying a disproportionate Fulani burden whose logic is difficult to unbundle. Nigeria is a modern state in the 21st century. In a modern state, the concept of a ‘global citizen’ that encompasses an entire ethnic nationality is high nonsense. It is a cocktail of confusion and a canopy for mischief.  Even the ‘global citizen’ moving across borders with high value intellect and knowledge, carries a passport and appropriate travel documents to enable him move through legal routes. The ‘global citizen’ no matter the arrogant pedestal he stands on recognizes national and other boundaries. He also recognizes personal property and cannot indiscriminately appropriate land and other resources for use in the name of ‘global citizenship’. No country in the 21st century can throw its borders open to ‘global citizens’ whose only trade is nomadic pastoralism spiced with blood? Which other African country is readily accepting the ‘global citizenship’ of the Fulani? Can the Arab move with impunity between countries of the Middle East and North Africa just because he perceives himself as a global citizen? Can the Bantus of Southern and Eastern Africa crisscross the countries of Southern and Eastern Africa at will just because they are Bantus and global citizens? Will they be allowed to organize their self-help predicated on vengeance and impunity, oblivious of the laws and security systems of their host countries? Governor Bala Mohammed is wrong on this issue and that he keeps repeating it may mean that he is laboring to undermine the foundation of the nation state.

Bala Mohammed is also wrong on the issue of the Fulani culture of vengeance and self-help. This is an issue which other Fulani intelligentsia like Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State have gleefully pontificated on. Nasir El Rufai had actually warned the army in Jos to be mindful of the Fulani because they never forget nor forgive an injury. According to him, even if it takes one hundred years, the Fulani will return for their pound of flesh. If the Fulani are that mean, how can they conceivably have a place in a nation state that draws its strength from its plurality? Allowing everyone to drink from the poisonous pot of vengeance to settle scores will defeat the concept of the rule of law which foregrounds the nation state. It is also for the same reason, that no country would allow its citizens to organize their security oblivious of the state.  If everyone were to carry military grade weapons in the name of self-defense and for the reason that the Government and people have failed to protect him, what will become of our country? There is no justification for any citizen, including the foreigner, carrying prohibited weapons in the country purportedly for self-defense.  Such a justification would be a call to anarchy and the lowest point in our national life especially when it is coming from a Governor who ought to know the implication of carrying such weapons.

Governor Bala Mohammed is also wrong on the issue of ‘settling’ the Fulani. While ‘settling’ the Fulani of Nigeria as a way of discouraging them from the nomadic lifestyle should be a priority, it should be clear that Nigeria is not under obligation to ‘settle’ the Fulani of the whole world. We may owe the Nigerian Fulani a place of abode to settle and stop moving from place to place in the name of the cow but as a nation state committed to the citizenry; we have no obligation to the Fulani of other countries.  If the Fulani of Nigeria nudged by their kith and kin from other countries are under the impression that they can cleverly stake violent claims to swathes of land across the country for citizens of other countries, we must see their actions as high treason. Why are the Fulani resisting ranching when ranching can strive in all parts of Northern Nigeria including the Sahel areas south of the Sahara? Which modern state can compromise the comfort and security of its citizens to allow the influx of foreigners whose past time is vengeance and who are ready to spill blood to support an obsolete way of life?

Bala Mohammed is also wrong on the issue of the Nigerian forest. His position that no one owns the Nigerian forest except the Federal Government is patently false. Under all our constitutions since 1951, forests have been on the concurrent list. In the First Republic, the Northern Regional Government enacted the Forest Reserve Law that prohibited residency and animal grazing in the forest reserves. No state in the North has amended the First Republic Forest Reserve Law to allow for citizens to settle in their forests and graze in them. The situation is the same in Southern Nigeria and it is only impunity that would make anyone to suggest that the Fulani herdsman can take over the forests of the country for settlement and grazing.

Time has come to regulate nomadic pastoralism and upgrade it for the sake of the livestock industry, the Fulani herdsman and the crop farmer. Ranching is a more productive template for livestock production. They’re several ranching templates that can take care of the small or large cattle owners. If the Fulani herdsman settles down to ranch, his children will go to school and several amenities that are hitherto not accessible to him will become available. At the moment, open and violent grazing is at the expense of the crop farmer whose farm has been destroyed and whose ancestral lands have been annexed for grazing.  The position of several Fulani umbrella groups whose members are steeped in nomadic pastoralism that the Fulani would need time to buy into ranching and that Northern Nigeria is not suitable for ranching is not tenable. If the Fulani herdsman has transmuted from a pastoral nomad to a bandit in a matter of years, I am not sure how a transition to ranching with its many benefits will need so much time. Ranches can also be established anywhere including harsh climatic niches like deserts. There are ranches even in Saudi Arabia and there is nowhere in Nigeria that ranches cannot flourish.

This is the time for patriots to speak up and relieve the country of the Fulani burden. It is not a necessary burden except if the agenda is a forceful takeover of the country for the Fulani of the whole world. If that is the case, it is difficult to see how it will fly, even with the amount of blood letting across the country. It must also be emphasized that opposition against the Fulani burden in the country is not part of ethnic profiling, a point made by Governor Bala Mohammed and others.  No one is profiling anyone in the discourse on the Fulani burden. The facts speak for themselves. The Fulani militia, by 2014 was listed as the 4th deadliest terror group in the world active in Nigeria and parts of Central African Republic. Leading Fulani umbrella bodies including the ‘twin brothers’ of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore as well as GAN Allah Fulani Development Association have variously claimed responsibility for massacres across the country. Nasir El Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State had also a few years back paid ransom to the Fulani of the whole world to stop them from attacking Southern Kaduna. The Sultan of Sokoto himself has admitted that out of every 10 bandits operating in the country, 8 or so are people of Fulani extraction. The Fulani are not only steeped into banditry, they are also accomplished cattle rustlers, arsonists and rapists. Yes there are Fulani who are not all of these, but on the whole, the Fulani are at war with the whole country and are gradually coalescing as insurgents and making it difficult for anyone to avoid looking at them as a burden in the country. We are invited to see through the Fulani camouflage.

Ex-Service Chiefs: PDP Says Senate Has Betrayed Nigeria |The Source

0

By Adesina Soyooye

The main opposition political party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has risen in anger against the Leadership of the Senate.

The PDP is outraged over the confirmation, by the Senate, on Tuesday, of the immediate past Service Chiefs for the post of Non-career Ambassadors.

President Muhammadu Buhari had relieved them of their services a couple of weeks ago, but in an action that shocked not a few people, nominated, and sent their names to the Senate for confirmation  as Non-career Ambassadors.

Many Nigerians had expressed outrage, pointing out that their nomination was like thanking them for doing a bad job of watching over the country’s security.

Under them, they said, insecurity worsened, and Nigerians killed in their hundreds not only in the North by Boko Haram, but all over the country.

Banditry and kidnapping, and rogue herdsmen multiplied. Nigeria is currently under siege.

There were, also, petitions against them to the International Criminal Court, ICC, accusing them of crimes against humanity while they held sway.

In deed, the out-going ICC Prosecutor confirmed that former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, was under investigation.

Many Nigerians had hoped, and urged the Senate not to confirm them.

But on Tuesday, February 22, the Senate confirmed them, sparking an angry reaction from the PDP.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, the PDP said confirming them does not stop their investigation by the ICC, and commended  its members in the Senate, for rejecting the confirmation.

The party said the confirmation of the Ex-Service Chiefs has presented  Nigeria in bad light before the International  Community.

Following, the full text of PDP’s reaction.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) berates the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the Senate for betraying Nigerians by clearing the former services chiefs for ambassadorial portfolios despite reports of crime against humanity committed under their command.

“The party however insisted that the clearance will not stop the investigation and possible prosecution of the accused commanders by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crime against humanity, which preliminary steps have already commenced by the ICC.

“It is indeed horrendous that the APC leadership in the Senate could choose to betray Nigerians by rushing to clear the accused ex-service chiefs in a desperate attempt to grant them diplomatic immunity and shield them from investigation and prosecution for the atrocities committed against Nigerians under their command.

“Though it is public knowledge that the current APC Senate leadership is a mere rubber stamp and contrivance being used to endorse atrocious policies and suppress the will of the people, but descending to the level of aiding and abetting crime against humanity by attempting to confer diplomatic immunity on the accused ex-commanders is, to say the least, despicable.

“It is indeed shameful that the APC leadership in the Senate could clear the ex-service chiefs, who the National Assembly had earlier indicted and requested for their sack over security failures and alleged compromises.

“Such reward of failure amounts to stabbing our nation in the back.

“The PDP cautions the APC leadership in the Senate that such decision has painted the entire National Assembly in a bad light before Nigerians and the international community.

“Already, the development is pitching the Senate against the majority of Nigerians, particularly the victims of acts of terrorism as well as those of the reported extra-judicial killings, arbitrary arrests, illegal detentions in dehumanizing camps, massacre of peaceful protesters, torture, rape and other atrocities allegedly committed under the ex-commanders, as detailed in the reports of credible international bodies including the United States Department of State, Amnesty International (AI) and Transparency International (TI).

“The PDP however commends our members in the Senate for rejecting the clearance of the ex-service chiefs as ambassadors and urged them not to relent in taking legislative steps to ensure their recall.”

Nigeria’s States Are Suffering In The Midst Of Plenty – AfDB President |The Source

By Ayodele Oni

President, African Development Bank, Prof Akinwumi Adesina has observed that Nigeria’s states are poor in the midst of plenty’.

Prof Adesina made the remark in Akure, Ondo state capital on Tuesday while delivering a lecture, as part of activities to mark the second term inauguration of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Governor Akeredolu and his Deputy, Mr Aiyedatiwa are expected to be sworn-in Wednesday, Feb. 24, for the Governor’s second term in office.

The title of Prof Adesina’s lecture is:

‘Towards a New Nigeria:  From Federal Fatherism  To  a Commonwealth.’

The former Nigerian  Minister for Agriculture observed that “with stupendous resources, all concentrated at the centre,  states are ever dependent on the centre. With the magnetic field of federal revenue allocations, states are constantly pulled, powerlessly into perennial dependency.

“Nigeria’s federalism does not grow its constituent entities. It simply makes them perpetually dependent. The Nigerian system is therefore not federalism…. but ‘FATHERISM’

“The resources found in each state or state groupings should belong to them. The constituent entities should pay Federal taxes or royalties for the resources. The stronger the states, or regions, the stronger the federated units.

The AfDB President, with reference to Ondo state, pointed out that “the total value of bitumen reserves in Nigeria could be worth up to $1.5Tmillion.

“With an estimated 16 billion barrels in Ondo State, the potential state wealth from bitumen alone could be worth $657B. The paradox however is that Nigeria spends over N300B importing Bitumen’

“Given its vast resources in bitumen, Ondo State should have the best roads in Nigeria.  But it’s roads are barely tarred with Bitumen.  That is the irony of Nigeria; it imports what it has in abundance and leaves it’s own resources untapped’

“Ondo state’s wealth is not seen. It’s locked under the ground. The state ranks number 13 of the Top 20 states in Nigeria in terms of it’s GDP, estimated at $8.4Billion. That’s the irony of Nigeria’s States: They are poor in the mist of plenty.”

Nigeria’s Federalism Faulty, Twisted; S.W. Will Fight Criminality – Akeredolu |The Source

Rotimi Akeredolu - Ondo Communal Clash

By Ayodele Oni

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has again taken a swipe at Nigeria’s system of federalism describing it as faulty and twisted.

In a keynote address presented at a lecture to begin activities marking his second tenure in office, Akeredolu pointed out that “regrettably, even those with palpable national passion and patriotism are today, gradually, tilting to the unintended ethnic nationality cabin.

“Most Nigerians are losing faith in our “Unity in Diversity” sloganeering, but there is an opportunity to restore national consciousness through TRUE FEDERALISM.

“It hurts none, it pays all.

Today, the most potent threat to national belief is insecurity.   And because we have allowed a sustained, non-beneficial stagnation for too long in our approach, the consequences are increasingly becoming more daring.

“As leaders, the choices we make create the path to our desires.   We cannot pretend that all is well when indeed, more things are going wrong.”

As Chairman, south west governors forum, Akeredolu stated that “what  we  have   set  out  to  do  in  the  South Western States is not targeted at any ethnic nationality or business.

“But we are against criminality and we shall fight criminality with every legal means.   It is in the interest of our collective wellbeing.   All we require is the support and understanding of all Federating Units, including the Federal Government.

“The simple truth is that we have lived in self-denial amid an excruciating pain that is almost cancerous now. Notwithstanding our challenges today, my firm belief in the Nigerian Project is strengthened by my own fact of a true Nigerian.

“That I desire a more United Nigeria with every ingredient of freedom, rule of law, patriotism, love, mutual respect and harmony is an understatement.   And I am prepared to fight for it legitimately for the benefit of all.”

The lecture was delivered by the President of the African Development Bank, Prof Akinwumi Adesina.

Jonathan Hosts Gambian Political Leaders In Abuja |The Source

Jonathan Hosts Gambian Leaders

In continuation of his effort to assist with facilitating a conversation towards a consensus on the making of a new constitution for The Gambia, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is hosting a three-day brainstorming session with leaders of the country’s main political parties in Abuja.

The engagement which opened on Monday has as participants, leaders of 15 political parties, and the leadership of International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), an intergovernmental organization that is providing technical support for the consultations.

Dr. Jonathan has been supporting the country’s ongoing constitutional review process to forge a workable national consensus since December 2020.

The session is to afford Dr. Jonathan and the party leaders in attendance an opportunity to undertake a collective review of the progress that has been registered since the inter-party dialogue began in December 2020, with some specific recommendations carried forward to January 2021.

During the brainstorming session of 22 to 24 February 2021, party leaders will be invited to share thoughts and exchange views on the proposed agenda for the third mission to Banjul which the former President will be carrying out in the course of the first half of March 2021.

The methodology of work to be adopted for ensuring that the third mission in March 2021 enables the party leaders to finalise an agreement on the way forward will also be considered.

Furthermore, the session will also consider any outstanding issues that could be included in the agenda of the session scheduled to hold in Banjul in March 2021 for full discussion by the party leaders, in preparation for the planned adoption of a new constitution for the country.

At a welcome ceremony on Monday night in Abuja Jonathan registered his “appreciation to the government and people of The Gambia for the moral support offered to the inter-party dialogue to date”.

He also thanked the Gambian stakeholders including lawmakers and party leaders for “the commitments which each and everyone of them have demonstrated, and the roles they played in the progress recorded so far with the constitutional review process”.

Finally, Dr. Jonathan thanked International IDEA for its technical support to the dialogue process and for underwriting the costs of the exercise. He also acknowledged the support role played by members of staff of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation.

The planned March trip would be Dr. Jonathan’s third visit to The Gambia since December 2020 when he was invited as a respected eminent personality to support the process of building national consensus and backing for the ongoing constitution review process in the country.

2022: Again, Fayose, Single Handedly Annoits Ekiti Guber Candidate |The Source

Fayose and his Annonited Candidate

By Ayodele Oni

Like he did in 2018, Ex- Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has single handedly picked a candidate for the Governorship election slated to hold in the state in 2022.

But, unlike when he was the incumbent Governor of the state between 2015 to 2018 and handpicked his deputy, Prof Olusola Eleka, as his successor, his present decision has ignited criticisms from members of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in the state.

They have vowed to thwart his effort this time, and ensure a candidate that will stand for the election emerges through constitutional process.

Fayose’s annoited this time is the factional Chairman of his group in the state, Chief Bisi Kolawole, having dumped his erstwhile choice, Prof Olusola Eleka, who is believed to still be nursing Governorship ambition.

The leadership of another faction of the PDP, Repositioning Forum, has reacted to the endorsement saying it was not the position of the party.

In a statement, signed by the Chairman of the group, Alaba Agboola, the Repositioning Group stated that: “It is imperative to clear the air on the position of the former Governor, to avoid the unsuspecting public from mistaking this position as that of the generality of Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The choice and endorsement of Hon. Bisi Kolawole as Governorship candidate is a sole decision of Mr Ayo Fayose and his Osoko Political Assembly and does not translate to that of Ekiti PDP.

“The Forum on behalf of the entire members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wish to dissociate from the showmanship of former Governor Ayo Fayose on his purported endorsement of any candidate.

“We appeal to members, leaders and stakeholders of our great party PDP to remain calm and unperturbed as efforts are in top gear to avert possible repeat of the 2018 scenerio in Ekiti.

“PDP Repositioning in Ekiti State, which constitutes the greater majority of registered members of the party, has consistently demonstrated a globally acceptable democratic norms which rest on Collegiate leadership and shall at the appropriate time ensure the emergence of a generally acceptable candidate with traceable records and proven integrity for the 2022 Guber election.

“We urge all members of our great party to ignore in totality the schenenigans and dictatorial tendencies of Mr Ayo Fayose which has been his stock-in-trade and consider the purported endorsement as a fresh ploy to destroy the chances of our party ahead of 2022 Guber polls.”

In his reaction, Prof Eleka, Fayose’s deputy who is still nursing an ambition to govern the state, remarked that as a beneficiary of the ex Governor, his ambition is divine and would only listen to God to give directive in which way to go.

“The events of the past few days have generated serious ripples in our party and among members, particularly after the endorsement of the current Party Chairman, Hon. Bisi Kolawole as the preferred aspirant by our leader, former governor Peter Fayose ahead of the party’s primaries, which has given birth to questions challenging the morality and legality of the process that led to the decision.

“I had taken time off to reflect on the issues involved and following biblical injunction that exhorts us to be quick in hearing but slow in speaking or reacting. I sincerely acknowledge H E’ s leadership role and right in the choice and endorsement of Hon Bisi Kolawole as the most preferred aspirant from Osoko Political Assembly. I’m not and cannot be grieved by this. H E had also similarly favoured me in the recent past.

“My coming out to indicate my interest in the 2022 gubernatorial contest is based on Divine leading and not just on personal human ambition. I’m constrained to seek God’s face on every subsequent actions and until I received anything to the contrary, the aspiration remains intact.

“Whatever happens, H. E, Peter Fayose remains my leader, whom I have adored and respected in my humble capacity as his deputy for four years; who in-turn believes in my capability to lead our state and provide good governance for the Fountain of Knowledge. H E should be rest assured that by God’s grace, my respect and honour for his person and leadership can not diminish.

“As a matter of right, he has spoken on his choice and preference concerning who flags the party’s gubernatorial ticket this time around and also on the right of other aspirants to pursue further their ambition if they so desire. In all these, may God’s will be done.”

Former Gov Fayose spokesman, Lere Okayinka said anyone that was not pleased with Fayose’s choice should go and join another faction.

Another former Governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni has also indicated his interest to contest the Governorship election on the ticket of PDP. Until now, many thought Oni was being backed by Fayose.

Insecurity: Sheikh Gumi Indicts FG, Says It Knows Hideout Of Bandits |The Source

0

By Akinwale Kasali

Popular Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, has asked the Federal Government to stop being  hypocritical, as they know the whereabout of Bandits.

Gumi said that the Federal Government knows the hiding places of the herdsmen and bandits involved in clashes with farmers, kidnappings and other criminal activities.

He stressed that  the Government was only now playing safe because it has realised that the former approach of attacking the bandits frontally was not working.

The Islamic cleric said this on Channels TV “Politics Today”, when asked why he can locate and hold dialogue with the bandits, while Government authorities cannot find them.

Gumi said: “They (government) know. They see them (bandits) by aerial view. But the military has learned its lesson.

“The first approach they had— when they go in and start killing— they realised is the wrong way and that they were producing a monster. They are now careful.

“The only element I am adding now is ‘look, don’t just wait and watch, go in and negotiate’.”

Gumi also said Fulani herders feel their existence is being threatened, so they cross borders to defend their kinsmen each time they are attacked.

He also noted that the Fulani bandits were not Boko Haram, noting, however, that “We have to be very careful.

“If the pressure is too much, I am afraid they can be influenced by Boko Ham. We have seen the signs that Boko Haram is going to infiltrate them.”

Fani-Kayode Backs Bauchi Governor Against Benue Counterpart |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has defended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, over allegation by his Benue State counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom of being a herdsman terrorist.

The two Governors have been engaged in a war of words for days, over Mohammeds allegation that Ortom was persecuting the Fulani, and justifying the carrying of AK 47 by herdsmen.

In response, Ortom, whose state have been having a running battle with killer herdsmen, slammed Mohammed, and called him the leader of terrorists.

But Fani-Kayode maintained that Governor Mohammed  is not a terrorist, saying that describing him as a terrorist was unacceptable, erroneous and absurd.

The former minister stated that Governor Mohammed stands for Christians, Southerners and Middle Belters as much as he defends Northern Muslims.

Fani-Kayode pointed out that Christians in Bauchi State are living peacefully.

In a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode wrote: “We must choose our battles wisely and know who our real enemies are. I have disagreed with my friend and brother Gov. Bala Mohammed on several occasions over the years and I do not share his views on a number of issues, but to describe him as a terrorist is uncharitable and absurd.

“If you are looking for a terrorist Governor, I can name one or two but Bala is not amongst them.

“To call Bala a terrorist is unacceptable and erroneous. I doubt that, if he has ever killed a chicken, let alone a human being.”

The PDP, the party which the two Governors belong to, has waded into the spat between them.
