As Owerri Loses Status As Entertainment Hub, Imo Monarchs To Invoke Curses On Perpetrators Of Insecurity |The Source

Imo Traditional Rulers

By Adesina Soyooye

“Owerri has lost its pride of place as the Entertainment hub of  the South-east and South-south. The Hotels are empty. And so are the Bars, and Lounges and Entertainment Centres. The once bubbling capital city has become a ghost city”

Traditional rulers in Imo State say they will, together, invoke curses on perpetrators of violence in the state, as well as those who instigate it. In the good old days, such curses were a big deal.

In recent weeks, the once peaceful State has been enmeshed in an unprecedented violence. And the State’s once bubbling capital, Owerri, has become a ghost  city. The many hotels, bars, lounges and other entertainment centres are empty. And people are being advised to keep off.

Owerri has the highest concentration of Hotels in the South-east and South- south, and is the entertainment hub in the two Zones. It has lost that pride of place since the inexplicable outbreak of violence.

The unprecedented attack on the Imo Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, and the Correctional Centre, on Easter Monday, which resulted in the release of 1,844 Prisoners, 600 detainees, the razing and the torching of buildings and cars, have since given birth to the killing of several security personnels, and the torching of a number of Police Divisions and States.

The most daring was the attack on the country home of Governor Hope Uzodinma, during which a part of his home, and a number of cars, including his Rolls Royce, were torched. A security personnel of the Civil Defence was, also, killed during the ugly incident.

The Traditional Rulers made the threat to rain curses on the perpetrators  on the day they met at the Eze Imo Palace, and roundly condemned, in strong terms, the  attack on the Country home of the Governor in Omuma.

They called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigations into what transpired at the Governor’s, and ensure that the culprits and their sponsors are brought to book.

In a communiqué at the end of their meeting which was well attended by the Chairman of the Traditional Institution and Chairman Imo State Community Policing, HRH. Eze Dr. Emmanuel Okeke, the monarchs were of the opinion that the attack was politically-motivated and, therefore, warned the politicians instigating the crisis to have a rethink or be ready to face the consequences.

The monarchs said as custodians of the culture and tradition of Imo State they are appealing to all that are involved in the wicked act to desist from it and if they refuse, “the traditional institution will consult the gods of the land and invoke curse on whoever that is involved.”

They acknowledged that the security situation in Imo State requires all hands on deck to secure the state so as to ensire that peace, progress and development thrive in Imo.

They commended the efforts of the security agencies attached to the Governor’s country home for repelling the attempted attacks and pledged their continued support to them  in their efforts to secure Imo State.

Any attack on the Governor, they said, is an attack on Ndieze, Imo people and Ndigbo in general.

The Imo Traditional Institution seized the opportunity to call on the youths to resist attempts to be used by politicians as willing tools for evil machinations, noting that every damage done to the property and businesses of Imo State would be replaced with monies that would have been channelled toother developmental projects in the state.

A number of arrests have been made in the State since the attacks.

Let’s Involve Only Financial Members In Our Congresses, Ondo Gov Akeredolu Charges APC |The Source

Rotimi Akeredolu - Ondo Communal Clash

By Ayodele Oni

The only way newly registered members of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) can show commitment and dedication to the party is for them to commit themselves financially to the party, Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has said.

The Governor noted that being financial members of the APC would further enhance their commitment to the growth and development of the party.

He spoke in his office on Tuesday while receiving the report of the APC membership revalidation and registration committee.

The governor lauded the committee for the good job done, adding that it is hoped the new membership registration would further boost the party’s electoral victory in future elections.

“I am thrilled with the work you have done. The only regret is that you registered people and they didn’t pay.

“What have they got to put into it? Now that we have been registered, we must asked those who have been registered to show commitment to the party. They will have to pay to get their party cards.

“Let us get our membership involved. Let us get them committed financially. Let them be financial members so that by the time we have congresses, we only involve the financial members.

“You have done your work. I thank you. You have done your best. I hope the registered members will turn out to enhance our electoral victory.”

Secretary to the committee in the state, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, who appreciated the Governor for the warm reception given the members since they arrived the state, said the Governor’s leadership quality inspired them to record success in the exercise.

“We have recorded success in our work here and it is due to the commitment and the passion of the Governor to the party’s growth. We have coordinated in line with the guidelines of the registration exercise.

“Whatever it is that we have recorded here will point to the teeming members the ownership of the party. Ondo has been cited as one of the best state that we have succeeded in this registration exercise,” he added.

The report was handed over to the Governor by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Murphy Lawal.

Not All EndSars Victims Will Be Compensated In Ondo – Gov Akeredolu |The Source

Rotimi Akeredolu - Receving EndSARS Report

By Ayodele Oni

Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has said that not all victims of the 2020 EndSARS protest in the state would get compensation.

According to the Governor, some of those whose properties were touched due to politics would not get compensation.

He was speaking while receiving the report of the panel set up by the State Government to look into the cases of some of the victims of the nationwide protest and Police brutality in Akure on Wednesday.

The panel had recommended the payment of over N755 million for some of the victims as well as public apology by government.

Mr Akeredolu pointed out that “when we go through your report, we will see how you want us to spend N755m. We will look at it again.

“Where politicians set each other’s buildings ablaze, each persons will bear the cost. At Okitipupa, I told them the State Government will not be coming. They are contributing money to carry out repairs at Okitipupa Local Council.

“In Owo, the people protected property. Those hoodlums who hijacked #EndSARS were ready to destroy anything.

“No palliatives were in any stores in Akure. I distributed them without waiting for CACOVID. States were waiting for CACOVID. #EndSARS would have destroyed palliatives but we have already distributed.”

On the recommendation of the panel that section 84 of Sheriffs and Civil Process be amended the governor declared that “the recommendation of reviewing Section 84 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act, (2004) is a civil process. It is more of a federal legislation. We will get our federal lawmakers to kick start it.”

Speaking earlier while submitting the panel’s report, its Chairman, Justice Adesola Sidiq disclosed that 77 petitions out of which 14 were criminal, and 63 civil, were received during its sittings.

Aside from payment of the N755m, the panel also recommended publication of apologies in national dailies, particularly where the reputation of victims had been tarnished.

Justice Sidiq (Rtd)observed that the “disheartening aspect of our assignment bordered on human rights violation which dates as far back as 2003 and unfortunately remained unresolved until this Panel was set up.”

Four Local Government Councils of Akure South, Ondo West, Odigbo and Okitipupa, were identified as areas where properties were vandalized.

“Apart from the monetary compensation of N755,730,897. 88, the Panel recommended publication of apologies in national dailies particularly where the reputation of victims had been tarnished.

“Another issue which became thorny was on the cases which had been decided by Courts of competent jurisdiction, but were brought before the Panel for lack of payment of judgement debts.

“Mr. Governor Sir, the Panel, after careful consideration of its limitations in line with extant Supreme Court judgments on the powers of Panels of Inquiry to entertain res-judicata cases, suggests that it is high time a review is carried out on Section 84 of the Sheriffs and Civil Process Act, (2004) to enable judgement creditors enjoy the fruit of their litigations.”

Governor Akeredolu, thereafter, announced the dissolution of the Panel after receiving the report.

Buhari, Come And Kill Me; We Have No Government In Nigeria |The Source

0

By Samuel Ortom

In the past two weeks, we buried over 70 people in Abiri LGA. The same in Koma LGA. We don’t have a Government

This is an unfortunate development.  If the Federal Government had taken proactive steps, today we would not be where we are in this country.

We have buried over 70 people in the past two weeks in Abiri local government. This is unacceptable. Go to Koma local government, the same killings are happening. Go to Bowa West, the same killing is happening. This is not right.

The FG has failed to take proactive steps in tackling this ugly occurrence here today.

You will recall that I alerted the  world when Fulanis, in 14 countries, met in Yola, Adamawa State and declared that except we rescind the decision on Open Grazing Law, we will not know peace.

On this ground, I was targeted for elimination. They attempted to assassinate me. It was only God that saved me. And I said they are going after my people, and the FG should arrest the leadership of Miyetti Allah that hosted that meeting. And up till today, nothing has been done. It is really unfortunate, showing that we have no government in place.

We don’t have a government and this is very sad. If proactive steps had been taken by arresting the leadership of Miyetti Allah, this would not have happened.

For several years, the FG has refused to answer and do the needful. So sad. This is Abagana, the adjourning villages are occupied by IDPs. What else do you want these people to do? You sent them away from their houses, and they came here to take refuge, and today, they have been killed in this camp. Over 70 people have been killed in the last two weeks.

They no longer come with their cattle, but they come here to kill, and they have said until we agree for them to bring their cattles to graze, we will not know peace.

This we say NO! That it won’t be acceptable. What kind of country is this?

Mr. President said it the other day that the Military should shoot anyone carrying AK 47. Up till today, we haven’t heard anywhere the Military shot anyone wielding AK 47. Rather, the Military changed what Mr. President said, saying that they will be arrested and prosecuted.

Where are we going? You wake up every day and see your people being killed. How can I be a happy man with this kind of thing? So please, Mr. President must do the needful. I want to suggest that immediately, let there be a security summit. I am aware that in Niger, Zamfara, all over the country. North East, North West, South East, South West and South-South, this dastardly act is taking place, by these Fulanis and people are afraid to say it and they give them a name bandits. They are not bandits but Fulanis.

The people that came here were seen and people saw them speaking the Fulani language and  they wanted us to proscribe and rescind our decision on Open Grazing law.

It is the people of Benue state that told me to make that law, I didn’t just take that decision about the law. This is sad.

President Buhari must rise to the occasion as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Our people usually  say that a Goat doesn’t bite, but when it’s been pushed to the wall, itwill bite. This is unacceptable. This is unaccepted.

President Buhari was elected by the people so he must rise and do something. No other person has the responsibility of arming the military and security men and providing them with equipment and funding to eradicate this. This is too sad.

They are playing us around because these are Fulani men doing the same thing, because they want to take over our land. If not, what are they doing all this for. You send people away from their farms, here they are in the IDP camps and you came her to kill them. What else do you want? Buhari, if you are the Governor of Benue state, what do you want to say? What do you want me to say? You must arise and do something. They are your kinsmen, call them. Enough is enough.

They are taking us for granted. This will not be accepted. I know the implication of telling people to go on self-help, and I want to repeat my call, that if you are serious about this insecurity matter, Mr. President, allow us to buy AK 47, and face them, and  give us license and let us face them. You have disarmed us.

Police and Military men have been arresting people who have swords and cutlasses just because they are from Benue state. You know where these Fulanis are, go and disarm them as well.

Buhari will give an order, the Defesne and Military heads will also give an order. What kind of thing is that? It is really very sad. President Buhari we are not asking you to protect us because we are from Benue State, it is your responsibility, so you must arise.

This that the heads of security are addressing insecurity, you must arise and address this insecurity issues yourself and declare emergency on security.

Call a security summit and bring all of us together, and let us all agree and you must be sincere this time around, not just playing on us.

This is too far. Enough is enough. If you want to kill us, come and kill us and we will know you were elected to kill us. Bring them on, am ready for them.

I am already 60 years,  and I am ready to go. You want to come and kill us, come on and kill us. Come and kill me because I cannot be presiding over dead people.

This is enough.

Ortom, Governor of Benue State, delivered this speech on a visit to an IDP Camp, where 70 people were killed by, allegedly, rogue Fulani herdsmen.

Transcorp Injects $120 million into The Hospitality Industry, Says Elumelu |The Source

0

By Uche Mbah

Chairman, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, (Transcorp) Tony Elumelu, has said the company has injected $120 million into hospitality industries, with the aim of rehabilitating facilities and “laying an investment foundation for a better tomorrow”.

This is the first time on record this was done since the hotel was commissioned thirty years ago.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting, AGM, of the company recently, Elumelu said this was done as part of long-term investing.

“We did this because we are long-term investors”, he said. “We believe in investing today for a better tomorrow.

“This hotel is here to make money for shareholders. In terms of the value of the assets, they have significantly improved.

“We are laying an investment foundation for a better tomorrow.”

Transcorp was established as Hilton Hotel. It later changed its name to NICON NUGA HILTON HOTEL. Transcorp bought the government holdings, which was by NICON Insurance, and, as the Israeli investors left, it became fully Transcorp hotel.

In an expected advertisement gimmick, Elumelu said the future of the Hotel is “extremely bright”.

“This is time for wise investors to secure their future and that of their children”, he said.

Referring to the indebtedness of government to power generating firms, he expressed optimism that the government is gradually liquidating the debts, for which the hotel set aside N97 billion impairment on its balance sheet. He noted that more funds may have been committed to the repayment of the debts.

“It’s actually a debt owed by the federal government to power companies.

“But as I said, things are now improving. Let me recognize the efforts of the government especially the CBN governor who had been extremely patriotic and involved in driving the improvements in the repayments in the power sector. We hope that progressively they’ll clear all of these,” he said.

OPINION: Country Hard, Scatter Scatter… Jaga Jaga |The Source

Reuben Abati

By Reuben Abati

“Omo, wetin dey shele. What’s gwan man?”

“Helloooo. Are you okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, my bro”

“Can you speak English? I don’t get your drift. All these your what’s gwan, and yeah, yeah, I hope you have not gone to take your thing again. If you want to engage me in a conversation, then speak straight English and stop saying yeah, yeah….”

“Bros, you sef, you too dey do. Who cares anymore in this country?”

“Ï do”

“This country don kpeme”

“What is that?”

“Country no level”

“Excuse me?”

“Ëverything don scatter scatter, Nigeria don jaga jaga. Na where we dey be that oh”

“Ï see you are a fan of Eedris Abdulkareem. Festus Keyamo will soon come after you. Have you not seen how Keyamo came after the musician for attacking and ridiculing the Buhari government?

He exposed the young man as a hypocrite who is criticizing government because Keyamo did not give him money to pay his hotel bills and his mother’s hospital bills too. All these your social critics by day, and hustlers by night.”

“Na lie. Eedris sef don reply Keyamo. And Twitter don remove Keyamo’s tweets.”

“Please. Please. If you insist on speaking pidgin, I will end this conversation.  I don’t engage in beer parlour talk.”

“Änd who told you pidgin English is beer parlour English. It is a major West African lingua franca. A major contribution by colonized peoples to the evolution of the English language. It represents the Empire speaking back whether you call it patois, creole or pidgin. But let’s leave that matter. I think we should go beyond Keyamo vs Eedris Abdulkareem. This is not about personalities, really. Eedris begged for money. Keyamo did not give him. Eedris asked to be sponsored to support the Buhari campaign. Keyamo thought he was an extortionist. Fine. I don’t want to focus on personalities. I am happy for Eedris Abdulkareem. He has been off the musical scene for a while. Now that he has dropped just one album, everywhere is shaking.  We should focus on the message of his music.

Eedris Abdulkareem has shown a capacity to use music as a weapon of protest. The rebuttal by Keyamo is just an aside.”

“Festus Keyamo also has a right to defend himself. He was accused of being a member of the cabal.”

“Änd what is the problem if Eedris says so. He merely stated the obvious. In fact, it is a compliment to be referred to as a member of the cabal in Nigeria. Isn’t that what all of you want to become? Common Keyamo wey all of us dey chop rice and dodo together for Anthony Village don become Nigeria cabal. Him suppose dey happy. Him suppose know say Eedris dey do him own cabal job too with his music. Instead, he begin talk about money wey no miss.. He even publish text messages sef dey sound like say heaven wan fall. Er begi.  Because of how much? A whole Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”

“Can you translate that into correct English, please?”

“Dey there dey form. I think this Ikoyi wey you dey go everyday don dey affect you. You no dey hear our slang again. Whatever Eedris Abdulkareem did right or wrong in the past should not be held against him. That is what I am saying. Simple.

He was a young man when he begged for money and asked to be mobilized to support Buhari. Like Isa Pantami, the Sheik Minister of the Federal Republic, he has now recanted. He has seen the light. And he has conveyed his position through music. Jaga Jaga Reloaded.

We should listen to him. He should be allowed to have his say. Na today? When Eedris released the original Jaga Jaga album in 2004, the Obasanjo administration was so angry, they banned the song on radio.”

“So what is he saying this time around?”

“I will advise you to listen to the song. My kind of music. Yes, you may listen to all these artistes who do techno music. Sound without sense. But I prefer music that makes sense. Eedris is simply saying that the country is hard. This country is hard. Nothing has changed since 2004.

In fact, the situation in Nigeria has worsened. President Obasanjo may have been angry with Eedris Abdulkareem in 2004, but today, Obasanjo is a Nigerian hero. Seventeen years later, Obasanjo’s Nigeria looks in retrospect like a shade of Paradise for the average Nigerian.  And so in this remake of Jaja Jaga, Eedris Abdulkareem calls Obasanjo his father because him sef know say country don change. He collaborates with Mr. Raw, and Madarocha Chi to sing about bad governance, police brutality, the October 20, 2020 moment of crisis at the Lekki toll gate and the suffering in the land. He calls for restructuring and federalism. He speaks for us. Jaga jaga eh, suffer, suffer eh.. everything scatter scatter eh… Yeah mon.”

“Hmm. Hmm.”

“You get the point now?”

“To be honest, Ï get the point.  Eedris Abdulkareem, Mr Raw and Madarocha are speaking for the Soro Soke (Speak Up) generation. But I hope Eedris will not again suffer his 2004 fate. Radio stations could be banned from playing the song. But I guess he and his collaborators are right. Nigeria is in a tough place at the moment.

Can you imagine what happened over the weekend? Governors of the South East and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo had to meet to discuss how the Governors of the South East, all five of them can be protected from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the group’s militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).  When state Governors, who are constitutionally described as Chief Security Officers of their states are no longer safe, then what can ordinary people do?”

“Ordinary people have become victims of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, ritualists, and scammers.

“Once upon a time in this country, criminals used to steal money and personal belongings. Today, in Buhari’s Nigeria, it has become more profitable to steal human beings! Nobody is safe. I won’t be surprised if one of these days, a sitting Governor is abducted and the state is asked to pay ransom before he is released.”

“Ï want to guess that the first Governor that is likely to be kidnapped will be Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State”

“Why? Do you hate the man that much? No. I cover him ?with the blood of Jesus”

“Cover him as much as you want. Have you not seen the statement by IPOB and ESN? After the killing of Ikonte Commander, the Vice President of IPOB, and six others, at Aworama Village, Emma Powerful, speaking for IPOB and ESN issued a statement accusing Governor Uzodinma of colluding with the Nigeria Police, the military and State Security Services to kill their men. Extra-judicially.

The same day, Uzodinma’s country home was set ablaze. His expensive Rolls Royce vehicle was damaged. One of his security guards was killed. He was told he should be prepared for the IPOB sting. I wonder how the man can still govern Imo State going forward.”

“He will govern, I beg. Which Emma Powerful? Have you not heard that Channels TV has been suspended by the National Broadcasting Commission because they interviewed this same Emma Powerful? What power does he have? Some people should not be allowed to go about just causing problems no matter how hard the country is”

“Channels TV? No, I missed that. But if it is true, that’s pure rubbish. Are we in a dictatorship regime?”

“You can ask me again. They say it is a democracy”

“I don’t support any attempt to harass and intimidate the media. The job of the media is to air all shades of opinion. It is in the interest of the government that the media does so. It is the best way to collect and curate open intelligence. No media house should ever be punished for promoting the democracy of opinions.

When a government begins to repress public opinion, it is a sign of desperation and confusion. The NBC may have been misquoted.”

“Ï don’t think so.”

“But as you well know, we have been through this route before. Media houses in Nigeria are used to the adversarial character of government and state actors.

Since 1859 in fact.  But somehow, you can treat the media whichever way you like, the truth is that journalists will always outlive every government. They will be the ones to have the last say. They can build you up, but they can also pull you down. I advise the NBC to apply its rules with caution and wisdom. Things are bad enough, adding media repression to the Nigerian crisis is unhelpful.”

“But it is your brothers and friends that are in charge””

“Ï am not discussing personalities. Let’s focus on issues.”

“I hear you. But there are also people who think the Nigerian media is part of the problem. Journalists are always putting pepper and salt in everything. Country hard like this. Journalists go dey put petrol. Too much sensationalism.

Government’s position is that the media should help government. But no. They will go and carry enemies of the state and put microphone in their mouths. I am sure if Shekau the terrorist wants to grant interview tomorrow or announce a World Conference, Nigerian journalists will be the first to get there. They will carry microphone and say they are doing their job.”

“News is news. News is what happens. Government has no right to determine what is news. You can’t blame journalists for doing their work. And don’t forget that the role of the media is constitutional. Sections 22 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution recognise the rights of the media as watchdog, and the citizen’s fundamental right of free speech. So, whatever Emma Powerful says, let the government deal with it.

Why are they fining and suspending Channels TV? How about Igbere TV where more critical statements are made on a daily basis? Even Igbere TV should be allowed to serve the people without hindrance.”

“But all of that should be within the ambits of the law. No country will allow a lawless media institution. That is the whole point about regulation.”

“The whole point is about freedom of speech”

“There are no absolute rights”

“That is not what we are dealing with here. Musicians cannot sing. Journalists cannot speak to people. Where are we? Idi Amin Dada’s Uganda?

“You want to hear the truth?”

“What truth?”

“The truth is that the Nigerian government does not respect, and does not trust the Nigerian media. They think most Nigerian journalists are like Eedris Abdulkareem. Friend today. Enemy tomorrow. Too many journalists looking for contracts, and money, running from one government office to the other to grab consultancies, or brown envelopes, or handouts. And yet they talk to enemies of the state.”

“That is libelous. You can get sued for group libel. People should stop blaming journalists. Fix the country.”

“Come and sue me”

“I fear for Nigeria”

“Ï pity my country”

“My big fear is even the fact that Nigeria is now surrounded by a ring of evil.

There is crisis in Chad. Their President Idris Deby Itno is dead. There is very febrile succession politics in that country.  Under Idris Deby Itno, Chad provided some kind of buffer zone for Nigeria, Libya and the Sahel region. If that country implodes, Nigeria will be in serious trouble.

The Libya-nization of Chad will add to our woes. Niger is also unstable. Nigeria may have helped to install a new President in that country but we can suffer for doing so, particularly with the dubious role France is playing in Chad and Niger.

Cameroon next door is also troubled. The Republic of Benin is another zone of uncertainty. We have trouble at home. We have crisis abroad.”

“Let’s deal with the trouble at home first.”

“You don’t see the connection?”

“Ï am not blind. I see it. But let our leaders begin charity at home before they begin to worry about other people’s problems.

The big problem with Nigeria is that we tend to take pain-killers for other people’s problems while overlooking the cancer at home. Who does that?  This is how you people send policemen to Somalia to help stabilize Somalia whereas there is no stability at home.

We go everywhere giving others what we don’t have at home. We even refine petrol abroad and set up refineries in other people’s countries. I don’t get it.”

“What you don’t get is that the world is now a village.”

“I am not into slogans. I understand the point about global solidarity. But nobody should take Nigerian money to go and stabilise Niger and Chad or create employment in other countries.”

“We are the giant of Africa”

“Hey, Hey. Mr Giant. In one part of your country, the entire North West, 618 schools have been shut down in five states because of the lack of safety in schools. Many students do not want to go back to school. Over 10, 000 students are in Boko Haram captivity according to one Governor from that part of the country. Parents are anxious and depressed. For the past one month, 29 students of the College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Kaduna State have been in the custody of bandits.

Three students of Greenville University have been murdered. Two more yesterday. The whereabouts of the remaining 35 who were kidnapped along with them remains unknown.  What do you say to their parents? The entire South East is in a state of war. The South West is suddenly at war with the same Hausa-Fulanis who have lived in the region for centuries. Boko Haram has just taken over a whole town. Geidam in Yobe state. Your security chiefs are busy wearing fine uniform in Abuja.

Your country’s unemployment rate is 33.3 %. Headline inflation is 18.17%. Food inflation is 23%. Your country is the second most unelectrified country in Africa. My heart aches.”

“Mine too. I have nothing to say other than to quote Chinua Achebe.”

“The problem with Nigeria is leadership”

“He also said there was once a country”

“So Eedris Abulkareem, the rap artist is right then. Keyamo misses the point.”

“Let’s say the two of them are doing their job. This life is a hustle. Every man according to his stomach.”

LASG New Anti-Graft Law Not Meant To Protect Tinubu – Governor |The Source

0

By Akinwale Kasali

The speculations that the new Lagos Anti-Graft law recently assented  to by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu allegedly is aimed at favouring the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader,  and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Government says it far from the truth.

Mixed reactions had greeted the new anti graft law, as many queried the motive behind the law.

Many people allege that the law was established to give an easy passage for Tinubu, to exonerate him of any financial and corruption allegations, so as to have an easy sail towards his 2023 Presidential Ambition.

But the Lagos state Government has said the newly promulgated anti-corruption law is not in anyway meant to shield Tinubu, or anyone for that matter, from prosecution.

Sanwo-Olu assented to a bill establishing an anti-corruption agency with sole rights to probe cases of corruption that have to do with the state.

This new agency will take over cases relating to Lagos from Federal Government-controlled anti-graft agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Gbenga Omotosho, Lagos Commissioner for Information, speaking  on ARISE TV said the Sanwo-Olu-led administration is not seeking to protect any personality with the anti-graft law it recently signed.

Omotosho said the law is to enforce accountability and transparency on anyone dealing with the state’s funds.

He noted that insinuations that the law was aimed at protecting Tinubu or anyone was conjectural and presumptuous.

“The idea that the law is to protect either Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu or anybody is highly speculative, presumptuous and in the conjectural imagination of anybody thinking so. It’s out of place for anybody to think that a law will be made because of a section of the society or some personalities,” the commissioner said.

“That’s not the aim of the law. Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, said very clearly when he signed the law that he signed it for accountability so that people won’t misappropriate the state’s funds and get away with it.

“Why is it that people are talking about some personalities when you talk about corruption, they are not even talking about contractors who may go away with the state’s money without doing any job. There are many people who are supposed to be reined in through this law, not just some people.”

Tinubu has a number of petitions against him before the EFCC.

Ortom: Buhari Behind Plot For Fulani To Take Over Nigeria |The Source

0

By Uche Mbah

Still angry over recent killings of Benue state residents by herdsmen in the state, widely believed to be Fulani militia, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, Tuesday pointed fingers at President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing him of being the mastermind of the killings based on his silence and body language.

“What is happening now, to me, is very clear; Mr. President is just working for these Fulanis to take over the whole country”, he fumed.

“His body language is what is being played out,” the governor alleged while condemning the activities of herdsmen in the state.

“The body language, the action, and inaction of Mr. President shows that he is only the President of the Fulani people; I have known this.

“We are becoming a banana republic, if we have a president who gave the security agencies order to shoot at sight, whosoever is having AK-47 and the Minister of Defence came out to say that they cannot shoot at sight… so who is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces?”

Security has broken down in recent times all over Nigeria, with gunmen going on a rampage, either as herdsmen or  militia in an unprecedented run.

For example, just in one day, eight policemen were killed in Kebbi state,  six Policemen killed in Imo state,  two soldiers killed in Ebonyi state,  five soldiers killed in Rivers,  seven IDPs killed in Benue, and a High Court burnt in Ebonyi state.

Boko Haram has been confirmed to control one  Niger LGA, hoisted its flag there, according to the State,   and its fighters a mere two hours drive to Abuja, according to Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.

Ortom also claimed that Fulanis have placed Fatwa on him.

The Governor said over seventy people have been killed in his state

“Mr. President must rise up, he is the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and over the 250 nationalities that are in this country; Mr. President is their President, we all voted him”, he said.

“He has taken the oath of office to secure the country and provide security for lives and property; this is unacceptable, this cannot continue,” the visibly worried governor said.

“Mr. President must rise up to address the nation himself, not Garba Shehu or any of his assistance. Mr. President must tell us where we are going in this country, this is too much.”

Abimbola Adekanye - Princess

By Akinwale Kasali

Is Nollywood Actor, James Olanrewaju, popular as Baba Ijesha a serial rapist? Perhaps, if the stories surrounding his recent journey to the Police and subsequent detention is to be believed.

The media space has been awash with the rape allegation levelled against him.

Mixed reactions, accusations and counter accusations have trailed the allegation, with the leadership of Theatre Members Practitioners of Association of Nigeria, TAMPAN, calling for justice against Baba Ijesha if found guilty.

But Comedienne, Abimbola Adekanye, popularly known as Princess, who the assaulted and defiled teenager live with, and  who reported the matter to the Police, has taken to her Instagram verified handle page to recount how Baba Ijesha defiled the teenager who she identified as her foster daughter.

In an emotion-laden lengthy video, Princess revealed that the immoral act happened in her house when Baba Ijesha came to her for help.

She said, “Some years ago, I had challenges with my marriage and I lost a baby. So some parents in my area, out of compassion, allowed their children to stay with me so that I will not feel lonely. There were six of them, three boys and three girls.

“Now, Baba Ijesha had challenges and he came to me for help so I tried my best. I registered him for a lesson, he sat for GCE and I tried to get him into UNILAG; in fact, he was enrolled. That day he wanted another help and I was not going out so I asked the three boys to go and play at their play spot down the street. My aunt had come to visit me and he was around. So when she was leaving, I had to go downstairs to lock the gate after her.

“I do not know what happened in the space of three to four minutes but the following week, the school called me that I should come and see my children. They said the girl sat on her brother’s leg and was whining her waist. They called me and the parents of the children. The parents of the children are staunch born again Christians and I don’t allow them to watch anything even cartoons. If they have to watch cartoons, I must watch it with them.”

Princess said that the actor had warned the girl not to tell anyone about the incident, threatening her. To be sure that the poor girl didn’t  reveal the incident to anyone, he came back the next day to confirm she kept mum.

It was revealed that the same day he came to confirm his secret wasn’t exposed, he defiled her again, this time with his car key.

“The parents said it could be spiritual so we started praying. He warned her not to tell anybody. He came back the next day to be sure if she had told anybody. He said that he bought fruit and she should follow him to carry the fruits from his car for everybody. When he got down, he used his key to defile her again. He did not come to my house again but anytime he needed help, he will call me,” Princess said.

The Comedienne whose marriage crashed few days after her wedding said that she had to make the video to clear the air contrary to news making rounds, that the actor did not sexually assault the girl for seven years.

She stressed further, “When I saw the news that people were saying he has been molesting her for seven years, saying so many things, I was shocked. Fine, he defiled her, he assaulted her and we just found out but he never came to our house again. He was dodging me. So whenever he needed my help, he calls me. At a point, I called him to scold him, telling him that he needed my help but he was in his house; I didn’t have money and my wedding just ended. He apologised and said that he was shooting so I went to meet him. But I noticed that he was avoiding me but I did not know why.”

With tears rolling down her cheeks, an emotion laden comedienne said she noticed that the girl’s attitude began to change and she began to fail in her studies.

“Then the child started failing in school. I paid for a private lesson. When I told my family, they told me that we should pray, maybe it was spiritual. The parents said that we should keep praying. They put the six children in my care because they believed that if I am surrounded by children, soon I will have mine. I kept on feeling that the child had changed. My family said that don’t I have faith? We should fast. Even the parents were fasting and praying. After two years, I felt the problem was not spiritual and that something was wrong. All the children are grown now and they are in the boarding house.

“Eventually, the girl opened up and explained what happened, the comedienne said she was shocked when the young lady voiced out. Immediately, they devised a plan to catch him red-handed.

“My friend called the child and asked her what the problem was. She told us and I was shocked. I decided to call Baba Ijesha. I went to his page and wrote that he should check his dm. Because I was trying his number but it was not going through.

“He replied to me on Instagram. I told him that I wanted to shoot a movie and I needed him to come over. My mother and I had said when he comes we will sit him down and ask him if it was true.

“That day when he was on his way I remembered that my sister and friend told me that if we do not have evidence people will support Baba Ijesha. I called a CCTV company to install cameras, I told them it was a matter of life and death so they set up the camera. When we set the camera, we asked everybody to leave the house but the girl was afraid. We calmed her down. She had not seen him again since the incident until she saw him in a movie that we did together recently. When she saw him in the movie she was jittery but she could not say anything till she eventually opened up to us.

“When he came in he saw me and the camera installers, then he asked who they were but I said they were from a cable company. I told him that I was going out and I will stay long so he should relax. In two seconds that I had left the house, he checked everywhere in my house to ensure that no one was home or the children were sleeping. He checked the whole house for cameras, then he started.

“I cannot even begin to say the things that he did. My body was shaking because we were monitoring it on the phone. At a point when she stood up to go to the kitchen, I knew that there was no camera in the kitchen so people came in and we called the police. The police came immediately to pick him up.

“I asked him, Lanre, what did I do to you. Because you know I do not have a child, people kept these children in my care so that I will not over-think and you did this to me. He said that I was his benefactor but it was the devil. He was just talking rubbish. I asked him what happened seven years ago but he was just begging me. They took him away. Every day we go to the police station from morning till night. Ever since it happened I cannot sleep. Some people called trying to threaten me”, she recounted.
