Former APC Chieftain Says Time Up For President Buhari |The Source

0

By Ayodele Oni (With additional  Reports from Akinwale Kasali)

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Timi Frank, on Sunday, joined calls on the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to resign from office.

In the alternative, Frank says, the President should be impeached by the National Assembly over “worsening insecurity in the country and unparalleled corruption in his Government.”

Frank’s call is a follow up to same position by President Buhari’s kinsmen, Northern Elders Forum and Afenifere, Yoruba socio political organization.

Frank, in a statement in Abuja, said the call has become necessary following “Buhari’s colossal failure to fulfill the primary purpose of Government which is to ensure security and welfare for the people.”

According him, President Buhari should listen to the voice of reason from the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), which members are his kinsmen, who have told him the home truth for his own good.

He pointed out that insecurity has not only worsened under the APC administration, “monumental corruption has become its second name.”

He challenged the 9th National Assembly, headed by Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan, to shed its rubber stamp toga and impeach Buhari, if he fails to resign. By doing so, Frank said, they would have saved the country from “imminent cataclysmic catastrophe.”

Said he: “It is obvious, even to the blind, deaf and dumb, that Buhari and the APC’s have failed to deliver on their cardinal campaign promises in 2015 which is to fight corruption and insecurity due to incompetence.

“Besides, Buhari and his Government have outlived their usefulness through serial constitutional breaches, unmitigated corruption and inability to secure and cater for the welfare of the people.

“Insecurity has worsened to unbearable levels while unbridled corruption has continued to dominate all facets of the Buhari’s administration.

“This is why Buhari must of necessity listen to his kinsmen who have advised him to resign or face imminent impeachment by the National Assembly.”

He described as mind-boggling the level of corruption that today permeates all aspect of governance without Buhari holding his alleged thieving appointees to account or asking the anti-graft agencies to bring them to justice.

He described the current allegations of corruption against the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi,

his wife, Judith, the suspended Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman, Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva and Buhari’s estranged son-in-law, Gimba Yau Kumo, as nauseating and an international embarrassment to Nigerians at home and in diaspora.

He also called on the Chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to ensure all Buhari’s appointees with corruption allegations against them are prosecuted to prove their culpability or otherwise.

“It is worthy to note that Nigerians, especially the young population have great expectations in the capacity and ability of Bawa to carry on a diligent investigation and prosecution, if need be.

“It is our expectation, that unlike before, under your leadership these revelations will not be swept under the carpet.

“Take this as one of the very first test of your office and I pray on-behalf of Nigerians that you would not fail us as Nigerians.

“It is pertinent to note that the youth constituency whom you represent feels more of the impact of corrupt practices in our country.

“The lack of basic amenities, jobs, good health care systems, e.t.c, are as a result of corrupt practices which rear their ugly heads in bad governance. Therefore, represent us well and be a good Ambassador. We believe in you, do not let us down!”

He said failure by Bawa to prosecute all public office holders with corruption allegations would be tantamount to a betrayal of trust that Nigerians have reposed in his leadership.

He added: “The recent resolution of the Southern Governors’ Forum to ban open cattle grazing and call for urgent restructuring which has been endorsed by the Southern Senators’ Forum, religious leaders, civil society organizations and Nigerians all point to the fact that the time is up for the APC’s administration in general and Buhari in particular.

“The agitations for secession in the South-East and South-West, the increasing level of kidnapping, incessant killing of security personnel and destruction of their structures are signs that the continued stay by Buhari and the APC can only bring more crises, division and calamity in the country.

“It is time for Buhari to resign because if something urgent is not done, Senators now pretending to back Buhari at this ominious hours may have nowhere to stay to continue their legislative duties. A stitch in time saves nine.”

Unbelievable: Leicester City Beat Chelsea, Lift FA Cup; Ndidi, Iheanacho Super In Miracle Win |The Source

FA Cup Final

By Akinwale Kasali

How are the mighty falling?

This can only be comparable to the biblical duel between Goliath and David. Otherwise, how does one explain that Leicester City would defeat Chelsea FC, in an English FA Cup final that had already been concluded it was Chelsea’s.

Leicester was clearly the underdog. But a 64th minute strike from Youri Tielemens was all Leicester City Football Club of Engalnd needed to lift their first ever FA Cup trophy in history.

The Midland Club Side defeated Chelsea Football Club 1-0 at the Wembley Stadium to become the 44th Club in England to win the prestigious, historic and coveted prize in England football.

Super Eagles of Nigeria duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wildfried Ndidi were impressive in the triumph, as both players were outstanding throughout the competition.

Iheanacho was substituted in the second half for James Maddison, while Ndidi played the whole 90 minutes.

The game could have stretched into extra time, following a late Chelsea equalizer courtesy of an own goal by Wes Morgan, but the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, ruled offside, to keep the scoreline 1-0.

With this defeat, Chelsea will be hoping to put up a superlative performance against Manchester City Football Club on May 29, 2021 in Lisbon, Portugal, for the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Ahead 2023: People Already Taking Money, Offering Deputy Governor Position – Okowa |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has urged Political leaders in the three Senatorial Zones of the State to embrace his olive branch by meeting and charting a way forward as the 2023 Governorship Election draws closer.

Appealing to political leaders on Saturday May 15, 2021, in Asaba, the State Capital, at the empowerment event organised by the Minority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu, Okowa noted that some politicians have started making promises that may not see the light of day, such as deputy Governorship offer, while in some other cases money have been alleged to change hands, thereby prompting some political gladiators to jump ship prematurely.

The former Senator said that the next Governor after his tenure must be grounded in State politics, ready to govern without relegating  any Senatorial District to the background.

He added that in due course the Governorship race trumpet will sound to signify the takeoff of activities for the race to commence.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Stalwart however frowned at the early commencement of 2023 Governorship race, and  political consultations which occurred within the first three months of the second tenure of his administration, saying that such moves revealed gross political inexperience and lack of adequate depth of political engineering by those concerned.

“I wish to advise our leaders not to lead our people into fire. We must be cautious in the ways and manner we conduct ourselves as far as 2023 governorship race is concerned.

“I hear that some people already made offer of Deputy Governor or running mate to some people. It is very possible that you are not the only one they promised that position. it is the attitude of some politicians to make same promises to as many people as possible and at the end of the day our people are deceived and mislead. This should not happen this time around.

“It is not good for some of our leaders to collect money and do the wrong things. At the appropriate time leaders in the state will meet to take the right decision on the way to go, as far as 2023 Governorship is concerned.

“I wish to sincerely advise those who are already jumping ship because of promises that may not materialise, to retrieve their steps and wait for the right time.

“The next Governor must be somebody who genuinely sees Asaba as his home, and as the state capital, and will not be unfair to Anioma nation of Delta North, or any other senatorial district for that matter.

“He must know the politics of this state, a team player, a visionary leader, and must be detribalised,” Okowa hinted.

He also commended Hon Elumelu, for empowering over 350 constituents, describing him as a consummate leader and a man of the people, urging other elected representatives to emulate the kind gestures of the Minority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives.

He stressed that the very essence of leadership and good representation is to upgrade the living standards and human capacity development of the people.

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB, has rescheduled this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME from June 19 to July 3, 2021.

This will avail prospective Candidates the opportunity to prepare and do the necessary registration for the examination, he said.

Embattled Yau Kumo Is Divorced From Buhari’s Daughter, Fatima |The Source

Gimba Yau Kumo

By Ayodele Oni

When the news broke that one  of President Muhammadu’s sons-in-law has been declared wanted by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, over a multi-million Dollar fraud, it was shocking to some people. And, to others it  sounded unbelievable.

How could President Buhari have allowed this stain on his family?, many asked. What will he tell his daughter?, others asked.

But, generally, it was seen as a plus, a red flag to Nigerians. If the President allowed this scandal on his family, it means he is serious, afterall, in his fight against corruption. Yet, others said this son-in-law must have fallen out of favour and, given the very low public opinion of the President’s administration, the declaration of his son-in-law was not only meant to divert attention, but meant to shore up his image.

The guy was identified as Gimba Yau Kumo, a former boss of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. Said to be married to Fatima, the second of the President’s beautiful daughters, he was declared wanted alongside two of his former colleagues.

While it is true, as proved by photographs that Fatima was married to Yau, that’s stale news. The relationship has since broken down, irretrievably. The two are no longer married to each other. And Yau, is at best, an estranged son-in-law to the President, and can only be referred to, in reference to Fatima, as an Ex.

This much was confirmed by  the Presidency when it  reacted to  the report that  Yau Kumo is a son in law to President Buhari.

While acknowledging a broken relationship between the Buharis and Yau, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement  that it was unfortunate that the President’s name was being linked to the matter.

He, distanced President Buhari from Yau, and said his relationship with the Buhari family had since ended. Meaning: Fatima has since been divorced from Yau.

According to Garba, there is “A running story to the effect that the ICPC has declared “an inlaw of the President” wanted in connection with fraud involving the large sum of money , USD65 million to be exact.

“This should normally be an affirmation that our anti-corruption agencies/institutions are truly independent and allowed unfettered freedom by the President. Which infact is the case.

“That a state institution can issue such is a measure of the administration’s commitment to accountability, equality and justice.

“To set the records straight, the person declared wanted by the ICPC is not an inlaw to President Buhari.

“While, at some point in time, the said fugitive from justice had been linked to a family member in marriage, that relationship has ended some years ago.

“It is, therefore, unfortunate to bring the President’s family into this case. It is in our view an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting.

“The President’s position, at all times, is that the law be allowed to take its course. As is well known of him, President Muhammadu Buhari will not provide any cover for crime, no matter who is involved.”

OPINION: Boy! I Have Seen Biafra, And It’s Not Funny |The Source

Tony Okoroji

By Tony Okoroji

No one can be more Biafran than this Writer.

I have seen Biafra. I have lived Biafra, and been bathed in Biafra.

Let me tell you something: It is not funny.

I was about nine years old in May, 1967, when Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu pronounced what is today known as the South East, together with a good chunk of the present South-South of Nigeria, as an Independent Republic of Biafra.

Those were heady days.

While Nigerians considered Ojukwu just a Lieutenant Colonel in the Nigerian Army, to us, he was the General of the People’s Army, a Deity of some sort who did no wrong.

Ojukwu was all-knowing. After all, he had been to Oxford, one of the best Universities in the World.

His Father was the great Louis Phillip Odumegwu Ojukwu, the richest Igbo Man in the World with massive Property across Nigeria.

Added to that, he was one of the most senior Igbo Military Officers. Who argues with a man with such education, money and military might ?

Despite all the Grammar spoken in different Cities across Africa to stop a dangerously fast-moving Train ?

Less than two months later, the civil war began, and the big guns began to boom everywhere, and the riffles began to rattle.

I was struggling with Primary School then, but it all ended very fast. There was no longer any school to go to.

Indeed, the Primary School in Ogada Atta, my Village, was converted to the Headquarters of RAP (Research & Production) which manufactured the locally made Bombs known as Ogbunigwe (Killer of multitudes) and the Biafran ‘Sure Battery’.

My Brothers and Sisters in Nollywood have shot some movies trying to recreate the dire situation in Biafra.

I can tell you that none of them has, in any way, truly captured the incredible suffering, deprivation and anguish that I witnessed under the relentless bombardment, air raid and economic blockade.

Please, try eating without any salt for one month, and tell me what it tastes like.

In Biafra, there was no Salt, no Sugar, no Bread, no soft Drink, no Beer, no Drugs and no Foods for much of the thirty months that the war lasted.

The only thing that looked like foods to more than eighty percent of the population was the three spoons of Cornmeal that looked like ‘poo-poo’ put in your plastic plate twice a week at a ‘Feeding Center’ after you had stayed on the line. in the sun. for hours.

Of course, some people collapsed and died on the line while waiting for the ‘Foods’ that no sane person will recommend for his dog.

The dead were simply taken off the line and buried in shallow and unmarked graves, and the struggle with death continued.

If death did not come by way of starvation or disease, it came through the Bullets of a Russian made Mig fighter-Jet, endlessly flying above and terrorizing innocent People who had no hand in any coup, or insurrection.

If you fell ill in Biafra, you died, pure and simple. There were no Drugs to deal with anything.

Unfortunately, there were many reasons to fall sick.

As the war went on and Biafra lost a lot of territory, many People fled their residence and were found in strange places with strange people living under very unsanitary conditions with no foods and no drugs and no work.

Strange leaves were attacked for food. Rats, Rabbits, Lizards and Snakes were chased after with frenzy in search of badly needed protein.

The picture of the average Biafran Child was that of a big head, big tummy, tiny neck, very tiny limbs, sunken eyes and pale colour, the picture of Kwashiorkor.

In the midst of that, there were Biafrans who made a ‘killing’ hijacking and selling Relief Materials sent by Charity Organizations like Red Cross and Caritas to soften the blow.

Of course, the must-have companion in Biafra was a short-wave Radio to listen to Radio Biafra and BBC.

There was no Electricity and no new Batteries. All kinds of imaginative ways had to be developed to make Batteries last forever in Biafra.

Radio Biafra (the original one, not the IPOB one) must have been the first real ‘mobile’ in history.

It kept telling you that it was broadcasting from Enugu despite the fact that everyone knew that the Station was constantly on the move since Enugu had long been lost to the Nigerians.

The propaganda was infectious and there was no one better at it than the great Okoko Ndem.

On Radio Biafra, everything Biafra was good and everything Nigeria was evil and the ‘gallant’ Biafran Soldiers with their bare hands were slaughtering the ‘Vandals’ despite the sophisticated equipment supplied to the ‘Vandals’ by the ‘neo Colonialist’ Britain.

At ten years old, I had memorized and imbibed the Biafran National Anthem, “Land of the rising Sun, we love and cherish; Beloved home, Land of our brave Heroes; We must defend our Lives or we shall perish; We shall protect our Hearts from all our foes; But if the price is death for all we hold dear, Then let us die without a shred of fear”.

There was no doubt in my mind that our cause was right and our method unquestionable. I did not see how we could lose the war.

I sought to join the Biafran Boys Company, the Youth Arm of the Military that undertook surveillance work behind Enemy lines. I was devastated when I was rejected. I was told I was too young.

And then came January of 1970 and my Village was overrun and one week later, the war was over.

The General of the Peoples’ Army had flown out ‘in search of peace’.

Incredibly, we lost. It did not make sense to me.

When the Ikemba returned to Nigeria under the NPN inspired amnesty, ran for a Senatorial election in Anambra, and lost, things became a little clearer to me.

Eventually, I met my Hero, the General of the Peoples’ Army in his Queens Drive Home in Lagos and we established a relationship that I treasured.

He was my Guest at a number of events.

Any time that I had the opportunity, we discussed this and that. While we agreed on a lot, we also disagreed on a lot.

It became clear to me that as incredibly charismatic as Eze Ndigbo, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was, he was not divinity, but a man subject to the emotions and mistakes of a man.

I have asked myself, since then, whether the Biafran adventure could have been undertaken in a different way.

As I see the anger and frustration of the moment and listen to the arguments back and forth, I ask myself whether we are prepared to make the same huge mistake twice in a Generation.

Just look at Al Qaeda, Al Shabab, ISIS, Boko Haram and all the movements that the World is battling with and you see how easy it is these days to start an unquenchable fire with a ‘Radio Biafra’ or “WhatsApp” Platform with thousands of unemployed, hungry and desperate young people with little hope. This is the real challenge of our times.

Please, if I am not seen carrying a placard and flexing my muscles everywhere for a Sovereign State of Biafra, I beg that you understand me.

I am not a coward. I remain a very proud Igbo Man, committed to a great future for the Igbos of the World, but I have already seen Biafra, lived Biafra and been bathed in Biafra and it is not funny.

Gumi Urges FG To Hire Negotiators To Broker Peace With Bandits |The Source

“Banditry Could End  In A Month If FG Is Serious, Ready”

Islamic Cleric and self-appointed Banditry negotiator, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, says that Banditry could end within a month if President Muhammadu Buhari’s Government is serious and ready to end it.

Gumi urged the Federal Government to give the Bandits needed support and also negotiate with them.

Gumi made this disclosure and call during the Sallah visit of Christian Cleric, Pastor Yohana Buru, at his residence on Friday, pointing out that banditry should never be used as an instrument of politics.

The Medical Doctor-turned Islamic Cleric urged the Government to deploy other measures that will offer the bandits better means of livelihood.

He said with the level of banditry in the country, there is an urgent need for negotiators to broker peace between the Government and the bandits.

It would be recalled that Gumi, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, negotiated the release of the  abfucted Kaduna Students of the College of Forestry.

Afenifere: “Why We Don’t Trust FG, National Assembly”: Asks That President Quits |The Source

By Akinwale Kasali

Pan Yoruba Group, Afenifere, has disclosed why it has made a U-turn on the clamour for the restructuring of the nation.

Though, the Group has shown its total support for the decision of Governors in the 17 Southern States in Nigeria to ban open grazing of livestock in the States they control, the Yoruba socio-political Group has said it cannot trust the National Assembly to champion its call for the restructuring of the country.

Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the foremost Yoruba Group, made this disclosure at the General Meeting of the group, held at his Ijebu-Ogbo home town, Ogun State.

His words, “We do not believe in the National Assembly which is a product of this fraudulent Constitution to amend the Constitution.

“It is immoral and illogical for a product of fraud to amend the fraud,” the group insisted.

However,  in a communique issued after the meeting, Afenifere backed the Southern Governors’ position on the ban of open grazing, and call for restructuring.

“Afenifere is in total support of the decision of Governors of the 17 states in Nigeria banning open grazing of livestock in any of the  States that they control, Afenifere felt that although the declaration by the Governors ought to have come long before now, given the atrocities that have arisen from open grazing, it is better late than never”.

It added that the Group is delighted to note that ‘restructuring’ as a workable recipe for stopping Nigeria from falling apart, is becoming more popular and winning converts on a daily basis.

“We are delighted because ‘restructuring’ is something we have been advocating for a long time.

Adebanjo also renewed its call for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation, saying he had no clue of Nigeria’s problems.

The Group noted that if Buhari failed to quit, he would “plunge the country into a crisis which nobody can foretell its end.”

At the meeting, Adebanjo was unveiled as the new leader of the group after a caucus meeting and a General Assembly.

Arising from the meeting, Adebanjo declared that Buhari had failed woefully and had no clue to the problems facing the country.

Flanked by the Deputy Leader, Oba Olaitan Alaago and the General Secretary, Chief Sola Ebiseni, the Afenifere leader maintained that the group was not clamouring for secession, but true federalism through the restructuring of the country.

He maintained that it was mischievous for the Presidency to accuse advocates of restructuring as secessionists and separatists.

Adebanjo said: “I assert Gen. Buhari has failed woefully, he has no clue to the problems facing Nigeria. He should go now before he plunges the country into a crisis the end of which nobody can foretell.

“Our resolve for the restructuring of the country back to federalism is unshakeable.

“We assert we are no secessionist. It is those who oppose restructuring that are enemies of a united Nigeria. That all opponents of restructuring give impetus to secessionists.

“The clamour for the return of the country to federalism is born out of the obnoxious provision in the constitution which has made economic and political progress impossible and this has been the main cause of instability in the country.”

OPINION: Mr. President, The Country Has Slipped Out Of Your Hands |The Source

Dear President Buhari,

It is with great pain but with deep concern as a fellow human-being and your age mate that I send you this private/public letter in the hope that you would be allowed to read it.

I am in pain because the country that Allah has placed on your laps to nurture and protect has virtually slipped out of your hand and is heading to ruins and destruction.

Every index that makes a country lay claim to development, survival, safety and security, unity and understanding, and justice and equity has taken a flight under your watch.

You probably are not aware that the country called Nigeria is already up in flames.

You may not be aware that you are being used by a clique of very powerful, egocentric and extremely wicked people for their selfish purposes and invidious agenda. And because position at the top of the pyramid is usually lonely, lonesome, and inaccessible, it has been very difficult for you to know and feel what is going on down-below.

Those who are guarding the pyramid have made it extremely difficult for well-meaning individuals to have access to you or avail you a second opinion on several issues of state and statecraft.

Tola Adeniyi
Tola Adeniyi

Worse still, you are afflicted with serious health challenges as evident in the video clips of your brief appearances. You know that you are not well and this is why you have had to be confined to hospital bed abroad for weeks and months on several occasions.

Some of your ailments may not even be clear to you.  But there is no big deal about being ill or having health challenges; most people, if not all, our age suffer one major health challenge or the other. It is only our reaction and management of these challenges that differ from one individual to the other.

You have , to put it bluntly,  been rendered a glorified but pitiable prisoner as a result of the aforementioned. Those who are using your office for their own selfish advantage have taken full possession of you and have unfortunately blinded you to the realities on ground.

Many atrocious and brutish atrocities are routinely committed in your name because they are fully aware that they would never be held accountable and that the buck stops at your table.

You have been literally handcuffed and manacled as a result of your situation and the only option open to you is to cry out to be released from the prison in which you are.

Your entire personal staff cannot help you because they are afraid of the superior officers/officials who are wielding the awesome powers of state hijacked from you. Even state Governors are often bullied in your name.

Your ministers and other career politicians will rather die in office than to have current position terminated because your office is their mainstay and breadwinner.

All the powers and privileges they currently enjoy and parade are at your behest. If for any reason you leave office today, they know their fish will be out of water.

And yet Nigeria is bleeding.

Nigerians are wallowing in unprecedented poverty, want, unemployment, crass nepotism, arrogant and condescending impunity, humongous corruption, humongous debt, alarming insecurity, worrisome absence of safety, confusion and hopelessness.

In the meantime, Nigerians everywhere are all crying out to you to rescue the ship of state whereas you yourself need to be rescued and rescued fast from the clique that holds you by the jugular.

My hope and prayer are that your bold, brilliant and beautiful wife will summon courage to read this letter to you. Or at least one or two of your children will let this letter reach you.

They certainly are aware of your health challenges. They know that several of the do-gooders who are allowed on rare occasions to see you for photo-ups hide the truth from the public. They must know too that those on such rare occasions who are allowed to see you say unpalatable things behind your back

In the name of Almighty Allah, the Most Benevolent, the Most merciful, let people of good conscience, led by your wife and children urgently release you from the world’s most guarded prison and take you back to Daura for needed rest and fresh air, or better still, take you to Germany or the UK for critical medical attention and total rest. That is all you need at this stage of your life Sir.

You have had a distinguished career as a soldier, officer, and Military Head of state. Allah has been most kind and generous to you. Please do not allow those who are embarking on ruinous path donate unenviable epitaph to you.

No nationality in this 21st century can subjugate about 300 other nationalities in Nigeria. The once-upon-a-time Great Britain is sliding to become ordinary England once Scotland and Wales regain their independence and Northern Ireland reunites with its southern kith and kin.

And Saudi Arabia, with all its petro-dollar and United States awesome firepower, has not been able to subjugate tiny Yemen

Let the message sink.

Ramadan Mubarak!

With esteemed personal regards.
