Vatsa Lashes Buhari Over Fani-Kayode’s Red Carpet Reception, Calls It Embarrassing

Secessionists, Igboho, Kanu to Join APC and have their sins forgiven

By Akinwale Kasali

Last week, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode became the beautiful bride of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, following his defection from opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Criticism  has trailed the new alignment between Fani-Kayode and the APC.

But an angry Jonathan Vatsa, a Chieftain of the APC in Niger State, has described the defection and acceptance of Fani-Kayode by President Muhammadu Buhari and APC top shots as disgraceful, shocking and embarrassing.

Vatsa, who was the Spokesman for the APC in the State, said that those who were branded yesterday as “looters” of the country’s treasury are being given “red carpet reception” in Aso Rock, has further put a question mark on the anti-corruption stand of the present administration.

According to him, “treasury looters are now heroes in APC. Everything is finished. The party has lost direction.”

Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Minna, the former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism pointed out that the desperation at which those that were called thieves yesterday are  being wooed and coerced into the ruling party is not only an embarrassment but a confirmation that “the party is struggling for survival at all means.”

Expressing his disappointment, Vatsa said: “I am dumbfounded and shocked not because Femi Fani Kayode defected to the party, but the kind of red carpet reception accorded him and in Aso Rock before the chief anti-corruption crusader himself.

President Buhari and Fani Kayode
President Buhari and Fani Kayode

“All Nigerians, including Mr. President, know the controversy surrounding the N2billion Port Harcourt Airport runway contract under Femi Fani Kayode as Minister of Aviation and his involvement in the ‘Dasukigate.

“It is sad to see those who looted the country with reckless-abandon and contributed to the economic problem the country is facing today, being received as heroes for defecting to APC, and being received by the President.

I have said this before and am saying it again that APC needs to apologize to Nigerians that it has missed it. We failed this country in totality, and the honourable thing to do is to say we are sorry.

“When we are beginning to eat our vomit, it means that the entire system has entered reverse gear. The party has continued to de-market itself before Nigerians through the actions of its leadership every day.

“I wonder what value some of these defectors add to the party? The APC as a party is beginning to behave like an illegitimate child looking or struggling for survival at all means.” He said.

Vatsa therefore, mockingly advised secession activists, Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, to take a step of faith and join APC and have their sins forgiven.

Accordingly, he said “I will not be surprised if Kanu and Igboho join the APC and are released from detention with the best of reception accorded them. That is the level of desperation that APC found itself in, no matter the level of your corruption, when you join APC you become a saint. It is sad and very unfortunate.”

Obasanjo Hits Buhari Again, Says Borrowing Is Criminal

0

By James Orji

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for accumulating more debts for the country. The ex-president who is a major critic of the government described the act as criminal.

The former president made the comment on the crest of last week’s request by President Buhari to the Senate to borrow over $4 billion. The president said in the letter to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawal that the funds will be used for “emergency needs”.

The development did not sit well with many Nigerians, including the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP who accused the president of taking the country to the point of no return over his decision accumulate huge debt. The president’s party the All Progressives congress, APC said the loan is justified.

The Debt Management Office, DMO put the nation’s total debt stocks at N33 trillion. If the Senate approves the latest request, the debt figure would have risen to over N35 trillion with the administration responsible for over 75 per cent of the total, considering that the debt stood at just over N13 trillion when Buhari took power in 2015.

This is not a cheery news, according to the former president who claimed that a huge part of borrowing under the administration is spent on consumption, adding that Buhari is piling up debt for unborn Nigerians.

Obasanjo who had written several letters to Buhari in the past criticizing his style of leadership negotiated the country out of debt from Paris and London Club of Creditors while he was president between 1999 to 2007.

The former president said the debt has become even more worrisome, citing the country’s incapacity to pay back its creditors.

According to him “If you want to build a commercial house and you go and borrow money, and you have 50 per cent of your own money and you borrow 50 per cent and in five years, you pay the 50 per cent that you borrowed. That is a wise thing to do. But if you have to go and borrow money for you to be able to feed yourself and your family, that is a stupid thing to do.”

“If you are borrowing and accumulating debts for the next generation and the next generation after them, it is criminal. What are you borrowing for?

“If we are borrowing for recurrent expenditure, it is the height of folly. If we are borrowing for development that can pay for itself, that is understandable. Then the payment, how long will it take to pay itself?”

“When I came into government as elected President, we were spending $3.5 billion to service debts. Even with that, our quantum of debts was not going down.”

The PDP had last week warned in a letter to the Senate not to approve the loan request because, according to the party it will not be used for intended purposes.

The letter signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan read in part “More alarming is that the debts that APC is hanging on Nigerians are for nebulous projects whose scopes, utilities, locations and contractors are largely vague; a development that validates apprehensions of a huge swindle on our nation at the expense of innocent Nigerians, including generation yet unborn.

“Our party holds it as an act of wickedness that individuals who know that they will be leaving office in less than two years will be accumulating debts instead of seeking ways to reduce the liability they have brought upon our nation.

“The APC knows it will not be around after May 29, 2023. That is why it is pushing our nation into a deeper economic quagmire with foreign loans, which are largely diverted to the personal pockets of their corrupt leaders.”

Oyo APC Quashes Fani-Kayode Claim Of Wooing Makinde To The Party

Governor Seyi Makinde

By Akinwale Kasali

The Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, says  there is no space for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde in the APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor is alleged to be nursing the intention to dump the PDP and join the Party at the Center, APC.

The insinuation was rife following the claim by former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who recently joined the APC fold, that he is wooing Governor Makinde to pitch tent with the APC.

However, AbdulAzeez Olatunde, the interim Publicity Secretary of the party, said there is no room for Makinde in the Party.

He made this statement while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital on Sunday over the alleged plan of the Oyo State Governor defection to APC.

Azeez noted that the APC has raised the bar of governance in Oyo State adding that the party doesn’t want people who have nothing to offer.

“APC Oyo State is not disposed to having Makinde because he has a very poor performance. APC has raised the bar of governance in Oyo State beyond the ‘mediocre’ performance of Governor Makinde.

“In over two years, Oyo has nothing to show for having a Governor who is even an Engineer, we see this as very poor.

“The first project that he started from scratch is the remodelling of Lekan Salami stadium at a whooping sum of N5.3billion which ordinarily shouldn’t have cost up to that amount.

“And because the people of Oyo state are prayer warriors, God answered their prayer by showing the ineptitude performance of the Governor with very good rain on the day of the commissioning which exposed the inadequacies of the project.

“It’s not even the money he saved. It’s a loan, so Oyo state will pay it back and only God knows for how long.

“It is the achievement of Governor Ajimobi that he is even leveraging upon.

“It’s funny to us that in three months he got to the office he said he wanted to distribute books that they have produced and we challenged them that if you claimed to have produced this in three months, then do another one in one year. It’s been two years now, nothing to show forth.

“A lot of serious state during COVID-19 were building makeshift diagnostic centre and treatment centre, our Governor could not build one, rather he decided to use the maternity centre at Olodo which is a legacy of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

“We don’t want people that have nothing to offer the people of Oyo state in our party. We have scores of better candidates, people that will do Oyo state better than Makinde is doing.

“No space for him in APC.

“Fani-Kayode should face his own life, we don’t want him to assist us in Oyo state”, he said.

2023: It’s In North’s Interest to Concede Power To South- Northern Elders

0
Northern Elders Forum

By James Orji

The North has sent a strong message to the south that when the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari expires in 2023, that the region is not prepared to concede power by force, in reference to the insistence from southerners that the region should step aside from ruling the country after 2023.

The Publicity Secretary of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed made this known, saying that the North has the number of votes to produce the next president.

If the Northerners decide otherwise, he said, it will not be because they are forced to do so., adding that such gesture will be in the overall interest of the region.

Baba-Ahmed is one of the top Northern politicians who insist that power must remain in the region, and his views will definitely not go down well with many Nigerians who insist that power must shift to the South for the sake of equity after the North has held power for eight years under the incumbent.

If this happens, the gentleman agreement between the North and South that power should rotate between the two regions would have been breached, a situation that may further polarize the country that is already sorely divided watchers of development in the country said.

Already, notable politicians from the south, including Governor Rotimi Akeredolu have warned that the South would not play second fiddle in the next political dispensation. Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN who spoke after the meeting of Southern Governors Forum, SGF in Enugu warned political parties in the country not to field Northern candidates for the upcoming election, as doing so would make them lose support from the region.

The Ondo Governor who have been at the forefront of clamour of power shift from the north said, it is time for the North to let go of power. Baba-Ahmed seemed not to be convinced.

While addressing participants at the event, Baba-Ahmed said: “The vote says vote who you want. We have the majority of the votes. Why do we need to accept a second class position when we can fight and get a first class position. Why?

“Why does anyone need to threaten us and cajole us and intimidate us? If you don’t bring the presidency here, you will see, okay let’s see, we are waiting to see.

“But when we get the power, in the name of God be humble because power comes from God”.

“If they tell you the north must play second fiddle, say No! If the rule of the game says you should vote for the candidate of your choice, vote for the candidate of your choice.”

He, however, added that it is in the North’s interest to concede power.

According to him “If they do not like the fact that it might be a northerner that will emerge as president, too bad. If we want to support a southerner, we will support a southerner because that will be in our own interest, rather than in somebody’s interest.”

By Ayodele Oni

Public servants and Members of the Executive Council in Osun State have an ultimatum of three weeks to get the Covid 19 Vaccines.

The order, which was handed down by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, came  in the wake of similar directive in Edo and Ondo states, affected health workers and others that have businesses in the state.

According to Governor Oyetola, the directive is part of the measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

The directive was contained in a memo from the office of the Head of Service, dated September 15th, signed by its permanent secretary, S. A. Aina.

Titled “Mandatory taking of COVID-19 vaccine and observance of its protocols,”

the memo was addressed to the office of Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and his Deputy, Commissioners, Special Advisers and Chairmen of Board & Statutory Commissions.

Others are Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Non-Ministerial Departments, Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University, Osogbo, General Managers and Executive Secretaries, Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital; Heads of the State’s Tertiary Institutions and Council Mmanagers.

The letter read: “Consequent upon the rampaging and virulent third wave (Delta Variant) of the COVID-19 virus, Osun State government is determined to halt its continuous spread in the state.

“Hence, the government has provided COVID-19 vaccine to be taken by all workers in its various health facilities.

“This is with a view to ensuring that the vaccine is taken in order to protect and prevent the workforce and residents from being infected with the virus.

“Arising from the foregoing, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has mandated all public servants who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 to visit the nearest Government Health Centre to them or their place of work to get vaccinated forthwith.

“This directive of Mr. Governor must be taken very seriously by all the affected workers across the entire state and local government services.

“In addition to the above, the governor has directed that all public servants should continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols such as wearing of face mask, staying at least six feet away from one another, avoiding crowded places, constant washing of hands/ use of hand sanitisers, among others.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Siji Olamiju, said “We have given them three weeks to have themselves vaccinated, and in this regard, the head of the service is the campaigner for this, sensitising with all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the availability of test and eventual vaccination.

“And after this given period, anyone who citrate to this, then we would know which action to take.”

How Assassins Missed Okonjo-Iweala’s Brother

By Adesina Soyooye

A few years after the mother of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation was kidnapped, alleged assassins, masquerading as thugs went after her brother,

HRM Aninshi Okonjo, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku. He survived by whiskers.

The attack, allegedly, carried  out by cultists, attacked the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, HRM Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, and his convoy  when they visited Otulu Ogwashiku-Uku. He, allegedly, was in the community to offer prayers.

A press release signed by  the spokesperson to the Obi, Prince Greg Okwumbu, and made available to newsmen, said the attack on the Obi took place on Friday, September 17, 2021, publicly.

The Obi and his convoy miraculously survived the attack.

The statement  read:

“The Obi and members of the Council of Ogwashi-Uku visited Otulu Ogwashi-Uku Friday, September 17, 2021.

“The visit was largely successful and the Obi met members of the community, prayed with them and discussed with them about the issues.

“At the end of the visit and when the Obi was departing, cultists and thugs imported into Otulu who were aware of the visit attacked members of the entourage who were at the rear of the convoy.

“The thugs also attempted to forcefully seize a gun belonging to a law enforcement member who escorted the Obi on the visit.

“It is important to note that members of the press accompanied the Obi on the visit.

“Also law enforcement agents from the Office of the Area Command and the Brigade Command in Asaba were also there at the visit and witnessed everything that happened.

“The people who sponsored the thugs are known to us and will be brought to justice.”

It is not known, yet, why he was attacked, but controversy engulfed his coronation, even from within the family, on the death of his father, Professor Okonjo who he succeeded as the Obi. The late Professor was Obi Okonjo 1.

2023: The South Is Waiting For Tinubu For Directions – Gov. Akeredolu

Akeredolu and Bola Tinubu with Kayode Fayemi

By Adesina Soyooye

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi  Akeredolu, SAN, says Southern Nigeria cannot quite take any political decisions with APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu, out of the country. He says the South is waiting for his return before it takes any serious position.

Tinubu has been out of the country – the United Kingdom – since July 2021, recovering from, allegedly, a knee replacement surgery.

Among many Political heavy  weights who had gone to visit him in the UK is President Muhammadu Buhari. Governors, including  Akeredolu had also gone to visit him.

Akeredolu is the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum. A few days ago, he let it be known that the South would not support any Political Party which does not pick its Presidential candidate from the South.

Speaking on Arise Television on Sunday, Akeredolu described Tinubu as the Capo of  Southern Nigeria, saying they are waiting for him to come back in order to take directions.

Tinubu is reportedly very interested in running for the Presidential seat in 2023.

Akeredolu denied going to the UK to discuss politics with Tinubu when asked if he would support Tinubu’s candidacy. But he said:

“APC will decide who the candidate will be. For me, whatever APC says, I will follow.

“We went to London because it was important for us to go and see for ourselves how he (Tinubu) is doing. He’s the Capo for us here. By the time he comes, we can make some serious decisions.”

Governor Akeredolu has been talking tough on a number of national issues, including the Anti-open grazing bill which he has signed into Law and the VAT  controversy between some State Governments and the Federal Government.

Southern Governors are in support of both, except  Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State Governor, who is against States collecting VAT.

Arsonists have set fire on the building housing the office of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in Awgu Local government of Enugu state.

This happened Sunday morning when no one was in the office.

Resident Electoral Commissioner for Enugu, Mr. Emeka Ononamadum reportedly confirmed the incident, noting that there was extensive damage to election materials as the fire was concentrated where electoral materials were stored.

Some indigenes of the town suspected sabotage.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, reacting, said that all movable election materials were already evacuated after a previous incident earlier in the year.

“Fortunately, all movable election materials had been evacuated following recent attacks on our offices in the State. There are no casualties in the incident”, he said.

“The identity or motives of attackers are unknown while the incident has been reported to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

“The Commission appreciates the prompt response of the security agencies comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well the Enugu State Fire Service and the Awgu Local Government Neighbourhood Watch.”

Breaking: How Dr Mailafia Was Denied Medical Attention

0

The Middle Belt Forum whose member Dr Obadiah Mailafia was says the late Central Bank of Nigeria’s Deputy Governor, was treated shabbily and even denied adequate treatment by doctors at the hospitals he went to, including the Central Bank Hospital.

In a statement in which it reacted to Mailafia’s sudden date, revealed that he died at the Gwagwalada General Hospital and not the National Hospital.

The statement signed by Dr Isuwa Doga, disclosed that Mailafia fell ill on return to Abuja from Akure on September 12, and was taken to the CBN Hospital where he was shabbily treated until an intervention from a Senior staff.

And there was worse.

When he was eventually transferred to the Gwagwalada Hospital, he was denied  the treatment he needed even when foreign doctors recommended otherwise.

Following is the full text of the statement.

“The death of the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, Abuja,  this morning came to us as a great shock. As someone who relentlessly participated in the activities of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), his untimely death has dealt  a deadly blow on ethnic nationalities of not only the Middle Belt but the country at large.

“Arising from various enquiries from Nigerians over the circumstances of his death, the Forum wishes to state as follows: That Dr Mailafia arrived Abuja last Sunday September 12, 2021 from Akure and was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by his wife.

“On arrival at home, the wife noticed he was not in the best of health conditions and seemed to be suffering from malaria. After three days of treatment without signs of improvement, he went to the CBN Hospital on Friday September 17, 2021 where he was shabily treated. It took the intervention of a senior medic who immediately placed him on oxygen and admitted him.

“Dr Mailafia’s was later given the option of choosing three hospitals: Gwagwalada Hospital, National Hospital and EHA Clinics. The wife opted for the third choice. On arrival at the EHA Clinics, the wife was subjected to yet another moment of anxiety as it took a direct order from the top management of the hospital to accept him.

“After few hours of treatment, the EHA Clinics told the wife that it was expedient to transfer the former CBN Deputy Governor to Gwagwalada as the clinic was not fully equipped to handle the case.

“The wife opposed the decision and insisted that she was opposed to the idea of taking her husband to Gwagwalada. Mailafia’s wife only succumbed when the consultant assured her that nothing bad will happen to her husband.

“Yesterday, Saturday September 18, 2021, Dr Obadiah was transfered to Gwagwalada. on arrival, the name of the doctor that was billed to attend to Dr Mailafia was not on duty. Even when an attempt was made by foreign health consultants to save the situation, the doctor on duty got angry and said he was not obligated to listen to any foreign consultants that had been brought into the matter with the sole purpose of ensuring nothing  goes wrong.

“Wife of the former CBN Deputy Governor was asked to pay the sum of N600’000 as deposit even when it was a referral case, with accruing medical bill to be settled by the CBN. At a point, Dr Mailafia complained over his breathing problems and pleaded with the doctors to place him in a ventilator. The doctors flatly refused.

Even after the doctors declared Dr. Mailafia dead, foreign consultants who were brought into the matter through Dr Mailafia’s son that is  living abroad, had directed a family member who is a medical professional, with the wife of the CBN Deputy Governor, to mount pressure on the chest of Dr.  Mailafia for  resuscitation and thereafter place him on a life support.

“The doctors in Gwagwalada refused all entreaties by the family members of Dr Mailafia to follow the advice of the foreign consultants, insisting that they have already pronounced him dead. Even when the wife could feel the pulse of her husband, the doctor flatly declared there was nothing they could do since they had already pronounced him dead.

“While the above narration sums up the circumstances under which Dr Mailafia died,  we still  await the result of the actual cause of his death. As a nationalist and patriot that he was, Dr. Mailafia  was completely dedicated to the emancipation of ethnic nationalities from the clutches of oppression. The economist was never afraid to speak truth to power just as he remained committed to the enthronement of justice and equity to all citizens across ethnic and religious  divides.

“In the twilight of his life, this consummate technocrat and global scholar of repute beamed his searchlight on the raging insecurity ravaging our country. He expressed regrets over government’s incapacity to rein in the activities of insurgents and criminal groups terrorising the nation.

“As a former presidential candidate in the 2019 poll, Dr Mailafia sought to deploy politics to bring about the dream he had for his country. Even after he lost the election, he never let down the bar in demanding for a fair treatment for all Nigerians.

“The Forum recalls his patriotic zeal in standing up for truth and justice. He was never a letdown in being at the forefront of  showing the way for national greatness as he was willing to lay down his life for Nigeria.

“The Forum is inspired by his altruistic disposition and contributions to national development. We remain proud of his footprints on the political, economic and social sands of our nation.

“In this period of grief, we extend our sympathy to his immediate family members and pray to the Almighty God to grant each and everyone of them the fortitude to bear the pain of this irreparable loss.

“The death of Dr Mailafia today represents a dark day for not only only the Middle Belt but also for all citizens  who yearn for a new dawn for justice in Nigeria.”

The former Deputy Governor  of CBN died Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Breaking: Buhari Empowers Ararume, Okadigbo’s Wife,Tinubu’s Man Too

0
Muhammadu Buhari

By Gideon Njoku

In a surprise appointment that is bound to reverberate in Imo State, President Muhammadu Buhari has empowered Senator Ifeanyi Ararume. He has  appointed him the Chairman of the Board of the just incorporated  Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd.

Along with former Governor of Imo State,  Senator Rochas Okorocha,

Senator Ararume belongs to a faction of the All Progressives Cogress, APC, Imo State, that does not agree with the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Members of the faction never took part in the membership registration and revalidation exercise of the party, nor the Congress. They were not also present during President Buhari’s recent visit to Imo State.

It had been taken for granted that they have, on their own, quit the party and looking elsewhere, possibly the PDP, as 2023 approaches.

But Ararume’s high profile appointment puts a question mark on the assumptions, as did  Okorocha’s  visit to Buhari with his son a few days ago where they took photographs with Mr President.

Buhari also remembered his long time friend, late Senator Chuba Okadigbo, by appointing his wife, Senator Margery Okadigbo as a member of the Board. Just as he emphasised the influence of APC Chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu by including his right hand man, Pius Akinyelure on the Board.

Announcing the commencement of the implementation  of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, Presidential Spokesman, Femi Adesina said Buhari has directed that the NNPC be incorporated. Buhari is the Minister of Petroleum Resources.

Adesina: “President Muhammadu Buhari in his capacity as the Minister for Petroleum Resources has directed the incorporation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

“This is in consonants with Section 53(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021 which requires the Minister of Petroleum Resources to cause for the incorporation of the NNPC Limited within six months of commencement of the Act in consultation with the Minister of Finance on the nominal shares of the Company.

“The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Mele Kolo Kyari, has therefore been directed to take necessary steps to ensure that the incorporation of the NNPC Limited is consistent with the provisions of PIA 2021.

“Also, by the power vested in him under Section 52 (2) of the PIA 2021, President Buhari has approved the appointment of the Board and Management of the NNPC Limited with effect from the date of incorporation of the Company.

“Chairman of the Board is Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, while Mele Kolo Kyari and Umar I. Aliyu are Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, respectively.

“Other Board Members are Dr Tajudeen Umar (North East), Mrs Lami O. Ahmed (North Central), Mallam Mohammed Lawal (North West), Senator Margery Chuba Okadigbo (South-east), Barrister Constance Harry Marshal( South-south), and Chief Pius Akinyelure ( South-west).”
