Anambra: PDP Stakeholders Rise Against ‘Saboteurs’

0
Anambra Election

By Gideon Njoku

Grieving over the November 6, 2021, Governorship election which its candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, lost to Professor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Stakeholders in the Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are raging against its members who, allegedly, worked against the Party’s victory.

They are holding them responsible for losing an election which they claim was theirs to lose. They blame them for working against the Party because of selfishness. They said they never raised a finger for the party, but instead, connived with their competitors to deny PDP victory.

The stakeholders allege that while some of them worked for the APGA, some others worked for other fringe parties, while some decamped to the All Progressives Cogress, APC.

And they have a proof to show they worked against PDP: None of those they mentioned by name, including Chiefs Chris Uba, and Olisa Metu won in their Polling Units. They lost.

In a letter to the National Acting Chairman of the Party, which they copied a few Party chieftains, they want those who sabotaged the Anambra election disciplined. “We demand that these disgruntled members be investigated and sanctioned by the party as their continous infamous conducts will always threaten and endanger the unity, peace and chances of our great party to win election in the State.”

Turning attention to those who suddenly decamped from the party to other parties, and are now making moves to return, the stakeholders insist that the door be closed against them, otherwise, they ask, they should not be given any waver, but should go back and re-register from the ward level.

Hereunder is the full text of the  petition against those they call stakeholders who worked against the party during the Governorship election.

PETITION AGAINST STAKEHOLDERS WHO WORKED AGAINST THE PARTY IN THE JUST CONCLUDED ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION AND THOSE WHO LEFT THE PARTY AFTER THE PRIMARY ELECTION

“We the stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra state wish to bring to your attention pressing issues that we believe is a recurring problem in the Anambra state chapter and therefore requires action on the part of the party’s leadership.

“It is no longer news that our candidate at the just concluded governorship election, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo emerged second at the polls with 53,807 votes. However, we are concerned that the just concluded election presented an opportunity for our great party to defeat the ruling party in Anambra state but regrettably our chances were wrecked by the pretentious activities of some so-called stakeholders who placed their selfish interest above that of the party.

“In view of the above, it is highly demoralizing and unacceptable that members of the party such as, Linus Ukachukwu, Chris Uba, Olisa Metuh, Some State Executive Officers were guilty of anti-party activities  . While some worked for APC some were induced to work for All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while some joined Maduka in Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) leaderships to mobilize support against the party in the state. It is on record that none of the aforementioned names won their respective PU and wards for PDP. Their ignominious activities and penchant for always working against the party in every election cycle cannot be further tolerated as it is contrary to the ideals and tenets upon which PDP was established.

“We demand that these disgruntled members be investigated and sanctioned by the party as their continuous infamous conducts will always threaten and endanger the unity, peace and chances of our great party to win election in the state.

“Furthermore, with the 2023 general elections close by, we wish to state unequivocally that the likes of Senator Stella Oduah, Hon. Chris Azubogu, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu, Hon. Vincent Ofemelu, Hon. Onyebuchi Offor, Hon. Douglas Egbuna and Hon. Chuma Nzeribe who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress in the build up to governorship election should not for any reason be allowed to return to the party. It is the considered resolution of the party’s stalwarts and stakeholders that any attempt by the hierarchy of the party to endorse their return back to the PDP will spell doom.

“In the unlikely event of their desire to come back, they should revalidate their membership in their wards and wait for a WAIVER. They shouldn’t be accorded any Privileges or patronage by the Party in any manner whatsoever.

“Similarly, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, Dr. Godwin Maduka and many LGA/Ward Chairmen and other party officials who decamped from the PDP to the Zenith Labour Party and Accord Party respectively following the outcome of the party’s primary election that birthed Ozigbo’s candidature should be vehemently blocked from rejoining the party. It is very disgraceful that the candidates of the two parties respectively garnered 2,082 and 2,054 votes after all efforts by the leadership of the party to appeal to them against cross-carpeting fell upon deaf ears.

“To truly show that the PDP has learnt from its mistakes, the National Working Committee of our great party should take the decisive decision of not identifying with these agents of destabilisation to serve as a deterrent to others who may wish to toe their disreputable path, otherwise we will in protest massively leave the PDP to another party.

Imo: Anger, Furore, Over Mayhem In Awomama

0
Ishieke junction

By Charles Igbo

There are two versions of the story. The story of the razing of Ishieke junction, Awomama Local Government Area of Imo State, in the late afternoon of Monday, November 22, 2021.

There were dark plumes of smoke. Followed by angry tongues of fire. Followed by screams, a run for dear lives, and razing and destruction of properties worth millions of Naira.

The first version was that gunmen killed a soldier at a Military check point located at Awomama. The gunmen, they said, operating in a convoy of vehicles, opened fire on the unsuspecting soldiers, killing one of them on the spot, and zoomed off.

Perhaps, the soldiers were taken by surprise as no mention was made of any fatality on the side of the gunmen. But livid over the killing of their colleague and, perhaps, embarrassed that they were taken unawares, the soldiers, allegedly, regrouped, and mayhem reigned.

They set fire on everything in sight. Cars. Stalls. Shops. Business premises, allegedly, including a hotel. Residential houses. By the time they finished, Ishieke junction, Awomama, has been reduced to rubbles.

The second version is that it was not soldiers that set Awomama on fire. Gunmen who arrived the Military checkpoint at Ishieke junction, it is alleged, opened fire on the soldiers who returned fire. In the process of the exchange of gunfire, it is alleged, some shots hit a shop and set it on fire. From there, the fire spread angrily, and caused unbelievable destruction and pain, and sorrow.

This magazine cannot confirm which version is correct. But either way, it is confirmed that the cause was a confrontation between soldiers and gunmen.

As mayhem reigned, residents of the area took to their heels. It was a mass exodus, almost, as they took to the bush to save their lives, carrying along with them  whatever personal belongings they could gather, their children in tow.

As the fire raged, owners of businesses and residential houses and properties which have been  reduced to rubbles wept bitterly over their losses. They obviously forgot the dead soldier. He didn’t matter to them at that point in time.

Expectedly, they heaped their anger on the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. They said he brought the soldiers to Imo to come and kill and destroy. Nobody quite remembered that the soldiers were at their duty post when the gunmen came calling. Or that no State Governor is in a position to deploy soldiers.

At the time of writing this, there has not been an official reaction from the State Government, or the Army, or the Police.

Since 2021, Imo State has had an uncomfortable share of clashes between soldiers and gunmen. Civilians usually bear the brunt, along with their properties, and atimes, loss of innocent lives.

It first started in Orlu, then Izombe, and now, Awomama. In all the incidents, lives and properties and businesses worth millions of Naira were lost.

But that is usually the story when soldiers are killed. Once a soldier is killed, his colleagues, more often than not, embark on reprisal missions. And, more often than not, the innocents bear the brunt.

In the instant case, the gunmen allegedly zoomed off towards Ihiala, Anambra State, but it is those who live around the area, and those whose business concerns are located around the area that bore the brunt.

During the President Olusegun Obasanjo regime, the Odi Community in Bayelsa State was reduced to rubbles when a couple of soldiers were killed there. The Community has still not quite recovered from that tragic experience.

During the same Government, the Zaki Biam community, the home town of former Chief of Army Staff, the now late General Victor Malu, suffered the same fate.

Recently, a Benue Community, led by the Governor of the State, Samuel Ortom, begged the Army for forgiveness to avert a reprisal attack for killing soldiers who were there on a peace mission. They quickly identified the suspects and handed them over to Security Agencies.

Uneasy calm is said to have returned to Awomama, as the people bemoan their fate and count their losses.

Many, still are reluctant to return home. They feel safer in the bush – just in case.

Okowa Challenges FG On Rising Cost Of Cooking Gas

0

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has joined other Nigerians demanding that the federal government finds solution to the rising cost of cooking gas.

The cost of the commodity has become unbearable for many households with no solution in sight on the part of the Buhari administration, which insisted that the price of gas has been deregulated, as such the government has no control over it.

The situation has pushed many families to seeking alternative means of cooking such as using firewood and charcoal.

For instance, the 12.5kg cylinder of gas that was sold for about N3,500 earlier in the year has risen to N9,500 and N11,000, depending on the location and availability in the parts of the country.

This must not be allowed to continue, Governor Okowa said on Monday at a two-day LPG sensitisation and awareness campaign orgaised by the presidency in Asaba, Delta state.

The Delta helmsman said concerted efforts must be made towards reducing the rising cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas in the country, if the objective of the National LPG Expansion plan was to be achieved.

The governor said the adverse effects of climate change due to the use of fossil fuels has thrown on mankind the urgent need to move to a cleaner energy.

According to him, the situation has made “the adoption of LPG as a transition fuel to greener sources exigent and Delta State is keen to play a vital role in this process and will give this awareness programme maximum support.

“Delta is home to 40 per cent of the nation’s natural gas endowments, hence a large number of oil and gas companies operate in the state. However, as we adopt LPG as the fuel to drive the socioeconomic activities of the economy, we must acknowledge a big challenge currently confronting the populace: the issue of high price of LPG in the market.”

The cost of cooking gas is now beyond the reach of many families, urging the federal government to do something on those factors that make gas unaffordable.

Okowa said “at the rate the price is skyrocketing, LPG is gradually getting out of the reach of the middle class and the common man.

“The price increase has been linked to several factors including the VAT re-introduction, devaluation of the naira and large importation of LPG vis-a-vis low production locally.

“It is imperative that policy makers find a way to mitigate this upward trend in the price of LPG to give succour to our people and if the goals of the LPG expansion plan are to be realised.”

First Bank: Otudeko Loses Again

0

By Fola James

Things are definitely not going well for Oba Otudeko’s one of Nigeria’s foremost industrialists seven months after he was removed as Chairman of First Bank Holdings by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

On Monday, Flour Mills of Nigeria, FMN announced that it has acquired Honeywell Limited, a company founded many years ago by Otudeko, and has grown to become a household name in the food manufacturing sector.
Flour Mills, a rival company, said in a statement that it has taken over Honeywell in a deal worth over N80 billion. The acquired shares include over 71 per cent of Otudeko equities and 5.06 percent First Bank shares in the company.

According to a statement released by the Nigerian Exchange, NGX Omoboyede Olusanya, the group managing director of FMN, said the take-over of Honeywell is part of the company’s strategic drive to become the leading agro-allied industries in the country.
“The proposed transaction is part of our global growth strategy; which is aligned with our vision to not only be an industry leader but also, a national champion for Nigeria in the Food and Agro-allied industries,’ Olusanya said.
On his part, Obafemi Otudeko, managing director of Honeywell Group Limited, and son of Oba Otudeko said that the transaction would create an industrial behemoth that transcends Nigeria.

“Today’s announcement is in line with the evolution of Honeywell Group and our vision of creating value that transcends generations,” Otudeko said.
The development, sector analysts say is another big loss for Otudeko whose words were once law in the nation’s financial and manufacturing sectors because of his boardroom successes spanning over 40 years in the country’s business environment.
For instance, as the founder of Honeywell Group, Otudeko sowed sweat and tears, nursing the company to become a major employer of labour, with vast investment in other sectors such as oil and gas, real estate and maritime.

But in a dramatic turn of event for the man who, according to Forbes’ estimate is worth around $600 million, things began to fall apart for him this year after he was sacked as the Chairman of First Bank Holdings following the botched ouster of the managing director of First Bank Limited, Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan by the Otudeko-controlled board.

The boardroom crisis also consumed Dere Awosika another boardroom amazon as the Godwin Emefiele-led CBN came down with a hammer that restructured the leadership of the first generation bank in favour of Hassan Odukale, a former managing director of Leadway Assurance Company who was named by the apex bank as the Chairman of First Bank Holdings Plc, the parent company of First Bank Limited.
The CBN’s sweep which affected all the directors of the bank was prompted by the failure of First Bank to comply with CBN directive to divest its interest in Honeywell, apart from the allegation of insider abuse levelled against the Otudeko-led faction in the over 127 years bank.

The Regulator had in letter to the management of First Bank warned that it complied with the order “failing which the CBN will take appropriate regulatory measures against the insider borrower and the bank.” But what eventually led to the ouster of Otudeko, was the coup by the board controlled by him to remove Adeduntan as the chief executive of First Bank Limited. Adeduntan is said to have serially protested insider abuse by the Otudeko-led board which led to huge bad loans that the bank is now contending with.

Citing the reason why it gave the Otudeko-led board the boot, Emefiele said it decided to act to save the oldest bank in the country from going under due to mismanagement. The action, said CBN Governor, Emefiele, was to protect 31 million customers and minority shareholders of First Bank.
According to the apex bank Governor “First Bank of Nigeria is one of Nigeria’s systemically important banks, given its historical significance, balance sheet size, large customer base and high level of interconnectedness with other financial service providers.
“CBN reassures First Bank of Nigeria depositors, creditors and other stakeholders of the bank of its commitment to ensure the stability of the financial system.”

Gov Akeredolu Lauds Ban On Importation Of Rice

0

By Ayodele Oni

As prices of commodities continue to soar, especially imported grains, Ondo State Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to consider lifting the ban on rice importation.

Governor Akeredolu insisted that the country has the capacity to produce rice for job creation and exportation.

He was speaking in Akure while inspecting harvesting of rice at a farm facilitated by the state government in collaboration with the National Centre For Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM) using a Japanese technology known as Sawah Eco-technology for rice farming.

The Governor was optimistic that Ondo state would be self-sufficient in rice production if the technology was fully harnessed.

He stated that the state government would not venture into rice cultivation, but partner with rice farmers to use the Sawah technology to boost production.

According to him, the technology would encourage  cultivation of rice in three cycles within a year and therefore more profit for the farmers.

“We have swampy or low lands across the state. All the swampy lands are over 20,000 hectares and this technology has shown what we could produce from one hectare.

“A farmer can make up to N1.8million annually from one hectare using this technology.

“It was courageous for President Buhari to ban rice importation. We have no business importing rice.

“We were creating jobs for other countries, but now the jobs are here and youths have to key into the project instead of looking for white-collar jobs.

“We will also be introducing fishery into the rice fields. There will be more training and sensitisation of farmers.”

National Coordinator of Sawah Eco-Technology, Dr. Ademiluyi Yinka, said President Buhari approved the training for rice farmers in some selected states through NCAM.

Dr. Ademiluyi explained that the technology encourages the use of low land for rice cultivation and produces more yields per hectare more than the conventional methods of growing rice.

Lagos #EndSARS Report: Olu-Adegoruwa Says His Life In Danger; Witness Matcheted

0

By Akinwale Kasali

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun Olu-Adegoruwa, one of the members of the  Justice Doris Okuwobi-led Panel Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of Special Anti Robbery Squad Related Abuses and Other Matters, has raised an alarm over the alleged plan to take his life.

The alleged attempt on the life of the Human Rights Activist is as a result of the report by the Panel that protesters were killed at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, as against the claims of the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government that no life was lost.

In a statement by Adegboruwa titled;  Nigerians Should Hold Government Responsible If Anything Happens To Me,

he alleged that two prominent lawyers of the Government have openly incited opinions against him on national television, with mindless accusations.

He also said a prominent #EndSARS protester who testified before the Panel, Kamsiyochukwu Ibe, was attacked on Sunday night, as he called on his colleagues in the Nigerian Bar Association, Civil Rights Movement and the good people of Nigeria, to hold the Government responsible should anything happen to him.

It would be recalled that Counsel to Lagos State Government, Abiodun Owonikoko, last week on ARISE TV said that Adegoruwa had already taken a position before he was made a member of the panel.

He also alleged that there were over 40 discrepancies in the Panel report, and also, Adegoruwa was not always present at the Panel sitting.

Adegoruwa statement Monday, 22nd November, 2021, reads: “I have not committed any crime beyond joining other eminent Nigerians with unblemished integrity, to accept the nomination of government on behalf of my constituency, the Nigerian Bar Association and the civil society and the indeed the masses of our people, for a national assignment.

“Two prominent lawyers of the government have openly incited opinions against me on national television, with mindless accusations.

“I have, however, refused to be intimidated or bend to the tactics of government to be silenced.

“I urge the good people of Nigeria, my professional colleagues in the Nigerian Bar Association, my comrades in the civil rights movement and the people of Nigeria, to hold government responsible should anything happen to me.

“Just last night, one of the prominent EndSARS protesters who testified before the Panel, Miss Kamsiyochukwu Ibe, was attacked and dealt serous machete blows, in what was clearly an attempted murder, as reported by her counsel, with very disturbing photos.

“I heeded the clarion call to serve by the government with the honest believe that the Panel was meant to say the truth and nothing but the truth, which is what we have done. It is left for government and Nigerians to do the needful with the report of the Panel. God bless Nigeria”.

Counsel to #EndSARS protesters at the Lagos state Panel of Inquiry, Adesina Ogunlana, took to his Social Media handle to disclose that a prominent protester and one of his witnesses at the panel, Kamsi, has been attacked by suspected hoodlums who used a machete on her.

Adesina who shared horrifying photos of Kamsi with a deep cut on her hand wrote;

”LESS THAN 24 HOURS TO WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE CONFIRMED LEKKI TOLL GATE MASSACRE , KAMSI, A LEADING ENDSARS PROTESTER/ PETITIONER/ WITNESS/CAMPAIGNER MATCHETED VICIOUSLY IN LAGOS . HER ATTACKERS SHONE A TORCH LIGHT ON HER FACE BEFORE ATTEMPTED MURDER , SAYING IN YORUBA AND PIDGIN ENGLISH ” OH WE KNOW YOU , SHEBI THEY HAVE WARNED YOU PEOPLE TO STOP, BUT YOU WILL NOT STOP .WHEN YOU DIE NOW, CONTINUE.”

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has set up a five-man Committee to produce a Whitepaper on the report of the Panel.

The United Nations, United States of America and the United Kingdom have urged for the implementation of the recommendations of the final findings by the Panel on the sad incident.

About eight months after he dissolved the State Executive Council, Imo State  Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, finally submitted 17 names to the Imo House of Assembly as Commissioner-nominees.

The Speaker of the House, The Rt. Hon. Kenneth Ibe confirmed receipt of the nominees when he read out the names to the whole Assembly at a special sitting on Monday, November 22, 2021.

N250M Donation: Davido, Failed To Help Me When I Was Helpless – Baba Fryo

0
Baba Fryo

By Akinwale Kasali

Veteran Nigerian Ghetto Musician, Friday Igwe, popularly known as Baba Fryo, has criticized Nigerian Hip Hop sensation, David Adeleke (Davido), over the N250 Million donation to Orphanages across the country.

The “Dem go dey pose” crooner, knocked Davido for, allegedly, playing to the gallery and unnecessary show off, stressing that when he needed help as a result of depression, he reached out to the “Ema Dami Duro”, crooner for financial assistance but was neglected and rejected.

Baba Fryo, opined that the multiple award winning Hip Hop singer neglected him, ‘a known face’, in his trying times, only to gift “unknown orphans N250m.”

In a reaction via his Instagram account, the Galala dancer said, “There is something that I have been seeing on social media that someone gifted orphanages N250m. To me, the thing is funny. I remember when I was depressed, they tagged many of my colleagues; they tagged Davido, Tuface, and others but none of them responded. It was people that have never seen me in this life, people that do not know me that responded.

Davido
Davido

“This N200m that I am hearing about and seeing on social media is surprising to me. If someone like me who is popular and well known was not helped, it is people and orphanages that no one knows that is being helped; they are been given N250m, it is so funny. I will advise Nigerians and Black people to be wise and stop all these things.

“White people do not do all these things. All what we are doing will look so funny to them. I am not saying that giving money to orphanages is a bad thing because I am an ambassador to an NGO that I do not collect a dime from. But funny enough, when I was depressed and had problems, the NGO did not respond. You see how we are. Now I am seeing N200m and they are posting it everywhere; Davido gives money to orphanages and inaugurates a five-man committee to distribute that money. Everything sounds funny to me.

“If I see someone doing good, I appreciate them; I am not saying it is a bad thing. I just want to ask people why someone like me that people know, who cried out; why did they not help the person that they know? It is the people that they do not know or can see their faces that they are helping out with N250m. Let’s all think; will we call that wickedness or ignorance?

“I tagged the Delta, Rivers and Lagos State Governments, none of them came to my aid. Is that wickedness or ignorance? But today I am seeing that N250m is going to be distributed to orphanages all over Nigeria. I will advise Nigerians to open their eyes.”

It would be recalled that few days ago, Davido asked his friends and fans to donate a million naira each to him for his birthday.

With the likes of billionaire, Femi Oyelola, Oba Saheed Elegushi, Alex Iwobi, Obi Cubana, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Obafemi Martins, Asisat Oshoala among others doling out millions to Davido.

The singer had said he planned to use the money to ‘clear’ his newly acquired Rolls Royce.

Interestingly, days ago, the FEM singer garnered about N201m which was donated to his Wema bank account.

However, in a twist of event, the singer announced that he would be adding N50m to the N201m and donating it to orphanages across Nigeria. He further inaugurated a committee that will disburse the funds.
