Osun APC Faction Fingers Aregbesola In Planned Protest To Discredit Gov Oyetola

0

By Ayodele Oni

Things are yet to be at ease within the rank and file of members of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Osun state, despite the poor outing of the ruling party during last month governorship election.

Incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola placed second after Ademola Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in the election.

The defeat of the incumbent has been traced to the unending crisis in the ruling party which has also led to two factions of APC in the state.

Minister of interior and former Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola is leading one of the factions which is made up of mainly political appointees in his eight years tenure.

Factional chairman of the party, loyal to Governor Oyetola, Gboyega Famodun has accused members loyal to Aregbesola of planning to forment crisis aiming at denigrating Governor Oyetola.

A statement by his media assistant, Kola Olabisi in Osogbo said “self-styled The Osun Progressives (TOP), has fine tuned, funded and concluded a skillfully orchestrated sinister plan to promote a large-scale disturbance in the political firmament of the state.

“It was learnt that a leader of TOP from the West Senatorial District of the state has been saddled with the responsibility of mobilizing the members of the group across the state and some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a view to sponsoring series of protests against the state leadership of the APC under the chairmanship of Prince Gboyega Famodun, across the states and at the APC Headquarters in Abuja.

“It would be recalled that TOP members worked in cahoots with the PDP during the last governorship election in Osun State on the directive of their leaders while the said leaders merely flashed their voters cards fraudulently indicating that they voted for Governor Gboyega Oyetola as a smokescreen designed to fake their continuous loyalty to the APC.

“It was observed that all the TOP members across the state openly celebrated the pyrrhic governorship victory of the PDP candidate over that of the APC candidate while the said TOP members were openly denigrating the APC, Oyetola, Famodun and other principal members of the party through verifiable write-ups and recorded  audio messages in the social media.

“It was also gathered that the intention of the said TOP leadership under the self-asserted patronship of the Interior Minister, who was the immediate-past governor of the state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, is to go for the jugular of the leadership of the APC at all the various levels across the state after they had patently and conscientiously worked for the PDP victory in the governorship election.

“The sing songs of the handlers of TOP have been that they are desirous to reorganize the APC which had successfully held its party primaries at all levels of the party across the state, backed with the statutory tenure in accordance with the relevant provisions of the constitution of the party.

“It is urgently expedient for all the genuine members, leaders, supporters and apologists of our party, the APC, to be at alert and resist any  intention  of any group of disgruntled elements who are PDP members in spirit, but APC in body with the sole motive to bring down the formidable wall of our party for selfish reasons.

“Report further revealed that part of the intentions of TOP is to work towards putting the leadership of the APC under their new political ally in Senator Ademola Adeleke under whose administration they wish to reap their unalloyed support  by way of appointments and patronages during the last governorship election.

“Another targeted intention of the inglorious TOP handlers is to create series of violent protests across the state as a prelude or pre condition for the creation of a state of emergency in the state in order to create a false impression that peace has eluded the perpetually peaceful state under the administration of Governor Oyetola.

“The aim of seeking for the hands of some PDP members in the planned protests in both Osun State and Abuja, is to create a false impression that TOP members are more in number than what they are actually.

“It is for this reason that we are calling the attention of the National Headquarters of our party under the chairmanship of Senator Adamu Abdullahi, to be in the know of the unsavoury development being suspiciously funded, directed and aided by a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We are also, by this development, imploring the Inspector-General of Police, the Osun State Police Command and other sister statutory security outfits with the local security outfits to be on red alert with a view to nip in the bud any sinister motive of any individual or a group of disgruntled elements to plunge the state into an avoidable anarchic situation under whatever guise.

Zack Orji and His Wife

Nollywood A-list actor, Zack Orji, in recent times have come under fire for his role in support of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a viral video, Orji reiterated his commitment to the Tinubu project.

“I know that when he becomes the President of this country, he will turn the economy around for the better”, he said.

Orji, who is the vice President of the Ambassadors for Voice for Change, said his support for Tinubu is based on personal experience.

“I have always known him as a man who stands for equity, justice, fair play and national cohesion.

“In his time as Governor of Lagos state, he ran an all-inclusive Government drawing people from different ethnic extractions into the executive council as decision makers to run the affairs of the state.

“People who came from different ethnic extractions were allowed to be part of the decision-making of Lagos State. I know with a high degree of certainty that on a national scale when he becomes the president of Nigeria, he will do likewise.

“This is what we need in this country. Though we differ in tribe and tongue, charity and brotherhood, we stand tall and proud.

“I know that when he becomes the President of this country, he will turn the economy around for the better.”

In a bizarre twist, his wife, who is also an actress, has declared herself “Obidient”, a term used by the supporters of Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State.

Obi is the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Taking to her instagram page Sunday she discussed the visit of Obi to Apostle Anselm Madubuko.

She shared a video and photos of Peter Obi at the church service, and wrote: “It was An Awesome Time Today. That Moment Our Apostle General Anselm Madubuko Introduced H E Sir Peter Obi. What an Awesome Way To Wrap up AZUSA 20 Conference. God bless you Sir for Coming. We are OBIdient. We Move.”

By Ayodele Oni

There is apprehension in Osun State among political parties and stakeholders over a possible conduct of local government election by the outgoing administration.

The terminal date of handing over to a new administration by Governor Gboyega Oyetola is November 15, having lost the July election to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP).

Both the outgoing All Progressive Congress, (APC) controlled administration and PDP have engaged in verbal attacks over the issue.

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has however shed light on the matter with a clarification that it is not planning to hold any local government election in the State now.

The spokesperson of the Commission, Mr Babatunde Fanawopo, disclosed on Monday in Osogbo, that the Commission has not made any notice of election known.

He stated that the information regarding such an exercise would come directly from the Chairman of the Commission.

“If we’re going to conduct local government election, we will announce it officially via a press conference. Nothing of such is in discussion now.”

According to unconfirmed social media report on Sunday, OSIEC will conduct elections on October 29, 2022, less than a month before Governor Adegboyega Oyetola hands over to Senator Ademola Adeleke.

PDP in the state has warned the State governor, Mr Oyetola and the OSSIEC against going ahead with the purported planned local government election in the State.

The Osun PDP in a statement signed by Oladele Olabamiji, its Director of Media, also described the purported election as unlawful, illegal and criminal.

The statement reminded the State governor and the State electoral body of a pending suit before the Federal High Court, Osogbo, in FHC/OS/CS/94/2022.

According to the PDP, the public is invited to note the act of illegality and criminality being embarked upon by the outgoing Governor and his OSSIEC, a body which it said, till date, has no legal backing for its existence.

ITF Raises Alarm As Unemployment Hits 33 Percent

0

By Akinwale Kasali

As the rate of unemployment skyrockets to 33 Percent, the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, formally unveiled its Strategic Policy Direction for 2022 – 2025 to curb the spate of unemployment in the country.

ITF’s Director General /Chief Executive, Joseph Ari, at a Media briefing in Jos, Plateau State, Monday, August 1, 2022, said that the ITF has been working tirelessly to reduce the percentage of unemployment that is affecting the nation, hereby bring about a strategic policy direction in tackling it.

According to the ITF Boss, “This Strategic Policy Direction is the third of such plans by the incumbent administration in the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).  You will recall that on assumption of office in 2016, we unveiled the ITF Reviewed Vision: Strategies for Mandate Actualization.

“The plan, which was initially slated to terminate in 2022, was, however, reviewed in 2020 to address gaps that were identified in the course of its implementation, and for us to appropriately respond to the negative impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on our numerous clients.”

He reiterated that, ”While it lasted, the plan enabled the ITF to aggressively address service challenges by computerizing our operations, tackling infrastructural challenges to expand access to Nigerians desirous of acquiring skills, and generally address a gamut of other strictures that were impinging on our ability to effectively discharge our mandate for National economic growth and development and the general good of the Nigerian people.”

He, however, lamented that In spite of the numerous achievements recorded by the Fund on account of these initiatives, we have realized that more needs to be done if we must fully tackle the numerous socio-economic problems that are bedevilling us as a Nation.

He further added that given the nature of your profession, you should be acutely aware that unemployment in Nigeria today is at over 33% as over 23 million Nigerians that are desirous to work cannot find jobs, mostly because of the absence of requisite skills.

“Poverty is equally on the rise with some estimates placing the number of Nigerians that are living in poverty to be over 90 million. In the face of all these, our population has continued to soar with the World Bank estimating that Nigeria might hit 216 million by the end of this year.

“Equally worrisome is the spectre of the Out of School Children, which according to the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) is projected to be over 18.5 million.

“It is based on the above and in line with our mandate of Developing a vast pool of skilled manpower sufficient to meet the needs of the public and private sectors of the national economy coupled with resolutions at the recently concluded ITF National Skills Summit in Abuja that we found it imperative to review and refocus our strategies to address the above challenges and to meet the skills requirement of the nation in line with global best practices.

“In arriving at our strategies, we considered the need to scale up our activities to address the soaring unemployment and other socio-economic challenges by leveraging on our three Es (Experience, Expertise and Expansive network), deployment of technology for wider coverage and more flexible service delivery.”, Ari explained.

The new policy framework, which has as its theme: Re-Engineering Skills for Sustainable Development according to Ari, has external and internal components.

Stating the internal components of the plan, which entail value reorientation, Industrial Development, Commercialization of ITF Facilities, Alternative Funding Window, Deployment and Promotion, Annual Budget Preparation and, Revenue Generation are intended to drive the external components of the new policy direction, which covers Standardization and Certification, Technical and Vocational Skills Training Programmes, Skills Intervention Programmes, Electronic and Virtual Learning and, Optimal Utilization of Skills Training Centres (STCs) and Vocational Wings (VWs). ”

According to him, he further revealed that, ”Standardization and Certification as the core aspects of the Mandate of the Industrial Training Fund, specifically, Section 2 subsections c and d of the ITF Act 2011, vest the ITF with the responsibility to set training standards in all sectors of the economy and monitor adherence; and evaluate and certify vocational skills acquired by apprentices, craftsmen and technicians in collaboration with relevant organisations.

In this area, the Fund will focus on ensuring full adherence to standards and regulating vocational skills training outfits through the accreditation of skills training centres and certification of all skills training in line with the Act.”

To actualise this, he said that, “the Fund will develop National Occupational Standards (NOS); Evaluate and certify apprentices, technicians and craftsmen; Train and certify learning and development professionals and; Create and maintain a data bank on skills training.”

Another key area of the Fund’s mandate, the ITF Boss said, “is the Technical and Vocational Skills programmes.

”Despite our commendable achievements in this regard, the Fund is set to refocus Technical and Vocational Skills Training for employability and economic growth by facilitating the institutionalization of the National Apprenticeship and Traineeship System (NATS).

”To actualize this, the Fund will collaborate with relevant public and private stakeholders for NATS; appraise and harmonize Apprenticeship programmes in line with set guidelines; conduct monitoring and evaluation and; design and develop technical and vocational skills programmes in line with the needs of the economy.

The statements reads further, “When fully in place, our plan will ensure a pool of highly skilled indigenous apprentices, technicians and craftsmen as well as an institutionalized National Apprenticeship and Traineeship System (NATS). ”

”Cognisant of the fact that technical skills are integral to the growth and development of societies across the globe, the incumbent management since its assumption of office in 2016, has been committed to equipping Nigerians with technical and vocational skills for employability and entrepreneurship.

”In this regard, to further address the problems of rising unemployment and under-employment, the Fund is re-engineering its skills intervention programmes through National Apprenticeship and Traineeship System (NATS).

”To achieve this, the Fund will register as a super certification centre; extend the duration of skills intervention programmes in line with NATS (six months for traineeship and one year for apprenticeship); procure and provide start-up packs for trainees in the succeeding year; design and develop skills intervention programmes; identify and engage accredited Skills Training Centres and certified craftsmen; implement, monitor and follow up intervention programmes and; evaluate and certify trainees.

“The intended outcome of this strategy is to have at least a total of 27,000 skilled and employable youths (18,000 trained youths under the NATS and 9,000 youth under the NISDP and other intervention programmes) and increased SMEs and Entrepreneurs to meet the Nation’s economic needs.

“In this area, the Fund will provide the enabling environment to foster creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and employability through its skills training centres by:Upgrading three of its skills training centres to Centres for Advanced Skills Training for Employment (CASTE).

“Embedding production Hubs, Skills/e-Hubs as well as creative and innovative hubs in its Skills training Centres and Vocational wings and, Utilizing existing skills training Centres to develop the capacity of technical instructors.

“In this regard, the Fund will equip Training Centres with state-of-the-art facilities, partner with relevant stakeholders for training placement as well as identify the competitive advantage of the centres for production purposes. We will also introduce instructors’ training in three (3) designated Skills Training Centres, advertise and deploy the Centre’s facilities and equipment for commercial use, engage trainees in the design and development of products and establish creative and innovative clinics. In addition, it will develop entrepreneurs and rename all Industrial Skills Training Centres as ITF Skills Training Centres (ITF STCs).

“With this strategy, we will now have three (3) Centres for Advanced Skills Training for Employment (CASTE) in Lagos, Kano and Jos as well as well-equipped training centres and vocational wings; train 450 Instructors annually; maximize investment and improve our revenue base.

“We believe that the new Policy framework if fully implemented will place us in better stead to fully implement our mandate and drive the achievement of Federal Government’s goals with particular reference to unemployment, poverty and their associated consequences.

“Our belief is premised on the fact that countries all over the world that had dealt with and have successfully solved the problems that we are currently confronting today, did it through a greater commitment to skills acquisition.

“For instance, to handle its youth bulge in the 70s and 80s, China under the leadership of Mao Zedong, Hua Guofeng and Zhao Ziyang who ruled the country during that period, invested heavily in the capacity development of its people. The outcome of this investment is evident today as China has moved from near third world to the 2nd largest economy and one of the most industrialised countries on earth.

“In Germany, about two decades ago, there was mass unemployment with roughly five million unemployed people and low employment rates to the extent that it was labelled “the sick man in Europe.

“Today, nearly two-thirds of young Germans are enrolled in apprenticeships once they leave full-time education using the German Dual Vocational and educational training (DVT), nine out of ten young trainees get a permanent job at the end, with others being offered shorter-term contracts.

“Germany is now dubbed a job wonderland and European champion with regard to its high employment rates. We believe that we can replicate similar successes in Nigeria giving greater commitment to skills acquisition that is considered by many today as the currency of the 21st Century.”

Ondo: Secret Installation Of Monarch Causes Tension In Irele Community

Irele Local Government Ondo State

By Ayodele Oni

As tension rises over an alleged secret installation of a first class monarch in Ondo state,  the state police command has been invited to eject the monarch from the palace.

Report said one Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri, was installed as the traditional ruler of Ode lrele, in lrele council area of Ondo state, despite pending court injunction against the installation.

A  ruling house, which is also in contention to the throne, the Aribo family from the Orumbemekun  of Ode-Irele, said the exercise is illegal and an invitation to anarchy because the installation was not approved by the state government.

The aggrieved ruling house, which has written to the state police command, insisted that the installation of Olowoyiri was purportedly carried out without the approval of the local, state government,  and the stakeholders of the town.

In a petition to the state police commissioner, dated 29th July, 2022, the Orumbemekun ruling family, through its Counsel, Adefemi Adeuti & Co. and signed by Ademola Adeuti, alleged that Olowoyiri in connivance with some people from the town, entered into the shrine and got installed as the Olofun of lrele on Tuesday 26th of July, 2022, in the middle of the night.

The ruling house has therefore asked the Commissioner of Police to wade into the matter by stopping Olowoyiri from parading himself as the Olofun of lrele, to avoid the matter escalating to a full-blown crisis as the stool is not vacant.

The petition reads: “We are solicitors to Prince Elijah Oloruntola Lebi of 10, Aribo Quarters, Ode-Irele, Ondo State. (Hereinafter refers to as our ’client on whose instruction and on behalf of the entire members of Aribo Family or Orumbemekun ruling house of Ode-Irele, write.

“It is our brief that one Mr Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri in connivance with some people forcefully entered Malokun Shrine, Ode-Irele and illegally installed himself as Olofun of lrele on Tuesday 26th of July, 2022 at an ugly hour of 3am.

“This singular act has created panic around the entire community as the people are now scampering for safety as a result of the mayhem and pandemonium created by the so called Mr Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri with his army of thugs and some men in military uniforms.

“The issue of kingship in Irele is before the court of appeal Akure division and both Irele local government and Ondo state government did not give approval to this illegal and unlawful installation.

“It is our knowledge of the law that it is only the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs in conjunction with the local government that can give directives regarding installation of a king and this is a completely different scenario.

“It is our further brief that many people that are jostling for this Irele kingship are patiently waiting for the outcome of the court of appeal judgment and subsequent legal approval from the state government for the installation of Olofun of Irele save for this man Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri that is parading himself as the Olofun of lrele without government’s approval.

“Furthermore sir, by the provision of Chiefs Law of Ondo State 2006, any person who illegally installed himself as a king has committed a criminal offence punishable under the law with years of imprisonment and that is exactly what Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri and his cohorts have committed and also caused a breach of public peace.

“Based on the foregoing sir, our client is humbly calling upon you to intervene in this matter and launch a full scale investigation with a view to bringing Mr Ademola Ifaniyi Olowoyiri and his conspirators to book.”

Camp Wike – Governors, Ex-Governors – Meet With Him In Abuja; PDP Hopeful All Shall Be Well

Nyesom Wike

By Gideon Njoku

For the first time since his loss, first, to Atiku Abubakar, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and, second to Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for the Vice Presidential slot, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, met with his Camp on Sunday.

The meeting which was held at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, was attended by the creme of his supporters in his aspiration to the PDP Presidential ticket.

The Governors in attendance were Samuel Ortom, Benue, Seyi Makinde, Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu.

Former Governors present were Senator Seriaki Dickson, Bayelsa,  Donald Duke, Cross River State, Olusegun Mimiko, Ondo, Ibrahim Idris, Kogj, Senator Jonah Jang, Plateau and Hassan Dankwambo, Gombe.

Other high profile attendees were member PDP Board of Trustees, Professor Jerry Gana, former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mohammed Adoke, SAN,  Senator Suleiman Nazif, a former PDP National Vice Chairman, North, and a member of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Yusuf.

Wike, a Presidential aspirant, came a respectable second to Atiku Abubakar at the PDP Presidential Primary.

A 17- man member Committee set up by the candidate and the PDP to screen a running mate to Atiku, short-listed three people  – Wike, Okowa and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, Ortom, Wike came up tops with 14 out of the 17 votes.

But Atiku shunned Wike and picked Okowa to the anger and disappointment of Wike and his Camp. While they maintained the silence of the grave yard, Atiku worsened the already dicey situation during an interview with ARISE TV. Asked why he picked Okowa over Wike, he said he picked somebody he could work with amicably and somebody who, from day one, is a President-in-waiting and shared his dream of a new Nigeria.

Stung, Wike called Atiku a liar, and threatened to tell Nigerians the story of recent happenings in the PDP.

Since Okowa’s choice, things have not been the same in the PDP. There are fears that Wike could play a spoiler’s game in 2023, especially, as his private residence in Porthacourt has become a must-go-to for Presidential candidates and high profile members of other Political Parties including LP’s Peter Obi, NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso and a strong delegation of the APC made up of three State Governors.

On Saturday, it was the turn of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to visit Wike.

Both are chieftains of the ruling APC, but presently disenchanted with the Party over its Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket.

Speaking on behalf of the Wike Camp after the meeting in Abuja, Professor Gana told Journalists: “We know that developments will unfold and when they do, we shall brief Nigerians. We have met together for the first time after the Primaries of the PDP.

“We have frankly reviewed matters among ourselves. We want to confirm we are solidly together as a group.”

A PDP chieftain told this medium: “It is our fervent prayers that the group will fully come back to the Party. All issues will be sorted out. PDP is one family. And we are resolved to salvage our dear country.”

Meanwhile, market analysts insist that the key performance indicators showed that the market sentiments are responding positively to the strategies of the lender’s management to accelerate the growth momentum designed for the Bank
